What is Manna Monday?

The Team at the Real Health Co. shares a weekly message to help you center yourself and start your week off strong!

Dr. Barrett:

I was with a patient earlier today, we were having a discussion on health. And we had to get to the core of what health is. And health is tool, and it's not a target. Health can be so quickly something that we turn into an idol. As we look at this next year, a lot of us are thinking about goals, even creating growth plans.

Dr. Barrett:

And today, I want you to just process as you look throughout this week, look at your health from a perspective of a tool, and not a target of perfection that you're trying to achieve. The goal of health isn't perfect labs, you won't get them. It's not perfect food choices, you won't be obedient that way. Or perfect body, your body will never be good enough. The goal is more energy to show up in everyday life.

Dr. Barrett:

It's a body that supports what you're called to do. It's a it's a it's a freedom, not a not a box of restriction that leads to fear and anxiety. It's health should be something that is a tool to allow you to be a blessing to other people. John ten ten talks about that God can give life and life more abundantly. And so we're called to live abundant abundant life.

Dr. Barrett:

And and and and soon sooner or later, if we obsess about our health, or anything else in our life, it becomes an idol that then puts us in a box of fear and control. And that's not what we're called to it's not what we're called to be. It's not who we're called to be. So, you know, when we when we start thinking about food choices that carry, like, moral weight, that's a problem. When rest feels like failure.

Dr. Barrett:

Right? Like, I'm thinking about this week. I'm thinking about sleeping in. And when I don't set an alarm, and I wake up at six or 06:30 or whenever that is, I feel like I'm already failing. Like I'm just a slug, like a sloth, that shouldn't be it shouldn't be and rest shouldn't feel that way.

Dr. Barrett:

Rest should be regenerating in. And so I realized I have an issue with with that area of my life where I feel like I'm if I'm not productive, I'm not adding value, and I'm not valuable. Right? But we are called to use all these things as tools, and not let them run our and shape our life. So health can be the same.

Dr. Barrett:

That your sense of worth rises and falls with your habits, that's an issue. And I've been there, I am there, I'm growing in those areas. So, a balanced approach to health sounds like, more like this, like healthy change comes from curiosity, not control. Consistency, being consistent in an area, not necessarily being super intense, which I tend to do. And then compassion, not perfection.

Dr. Barrett:

It's okay to make a mistake. It's okay to sleep in. It's okay to not be perfect all the time. So, when thinking about your growth plans, when thinking about the new year, just rest in the fact that all of these things are tools. And I pray that they don't control you because it's easy to get caught in that vicious cycle.

Dr. Barrett:

So let's think about our growth plan. Let's think about what areas you wanna grow in, but make sure that they don't become an idol and they are a tool to add to to so that they're a blessing in your life that then spills over into the lives of those around you.
