Yeah, thanks for doing. Thanks for listening. Thanks for listening. It we really do appreciate it.

Well, otherwise, why are we doing this? Right. All right. Do you want to hear about uh something else that has been pumpkin spiced? What okay, go ahead. Uh they are pumpkin spicing all the things if you haven't noticed. But the latest pumpkin spiced item is my lanta.

No. Why? Why, Lanta?

They've actually launched two limited edition fall harvest uh flavors. They have pumpkin spice Milanta and spiced apple cider Mylanta. Please don't do this. Why?

I've got heartburn. I need relief, but I want it to taste good.

If you think if you've had too many things that are pumpkin spiced, like you've eaten too many pumpkin spice cookies, or too many pumpkin spice ice creams, or too many pumpkin spice lattes, and your tummy feels a little rumbly. Wash it down with pumpkin spiced Milanta.

I can't believe this is real. This is actually real. It is actually there is no way. Yes. Who wants this? Who asked for this? Who in their right mind was like, you know what we really need is to get our hands on a little uh pumpkin spice Milanta. You gotta be kidding me.

I think we just have regular Milanta. I do we I think so.

I don't think we have Milanta in the house. Yes, we do. Why do we have Milanta in the house?

Our heartburn. I don't need that. We be old, Josh. I I don't need that. What is that what it's for? It's an antacid, yes.

Yeah, so it's heartburn, gas relief.

You yeah, yeah, we have some of this. I don't know. It's just regular flavor, but maybe we need the pumpkin space. No, we don't. Gross. I don't want that. Fast acting relief or heartburn, acid indigestion, bloating, and gas. We might need some after our hair food tasting today.

Now that's that is that's actually probably true. But the last thing I want is pumpkin spice flavored Milanta.

What about you like apple cider?

No, I don't want to drink. It's gonna be chalky still. No matter what. It's not gonna hide the chalkiness of my lanta. Mmm, Mylanta. Ugh. Let's start today's show. All right. That was pretty cool how you got to ride to work with me today.

That was fun. Wasn't that fun? It doesn't happen much. No, and I don't like what you listen to on your radio.

Okay, because we've had this conversation, but it's been a while. Yes. Because you like to listen to loud music and you like to like sing along and kind of get your morning going. I'm a much, much, much more mellow person uh when it comes to my mornings. And so yeah, I was listening to uh just the radio like quietly, and then I thought, oh yeah, I I haven't switched over to catch up on my news. Ugh. And so I was just

uh You're a listen to the news in the car kind of guy.

No, listen, it's more about the people talking than it is about the news, but I also I flipped over uh to listen uh just briefly because sometimes I'll catch like an entertaining segment or uh today it was all political, and I went, no, it's not bad.

No, I don't want that. Um But, you know, I try to I got like a few minutes. And usually I'll just drive in silence. That's more often, but I thought you were with me, I better put on some music. No, I do. I normally just drive in the just in the quiet.

How you can that that just means you're there with your thoughts. Who wants to be alone with their thoughts? What thoughts? You don't have any thoughts. I forgot. You're such a dude. What does that mean?

You're such a dude. Like I I just drive in silence, and I just uh exist and it's nice. And it's quiet, and it's you know if I'm driving in silence, then my thoughts creep in, and then sometimes I start talking to myself because I'm like, no, we gotta analyze this thing again. And so then I'll just start talking to myself.

Yeah, I don't know. So then I'm not driving in silence anymore. I'm just a crazy person talking to myself in the car. I do that. Okay.

That's something I do. Well, I I do not. You used to years ago when we there was a couple of times that I had to ride with you. My car was in the shop or something. Yeah. And that's when we were getting here a little bit earlier.

Yeah, no, there's I would watch my bird bird note. Yeah, my my bird uh segments.

And it was just a little thing about birds. Yeah. One particular bird. It was like a I don't know, three minute

minute and a half, maybe two minute thing. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah.

I haven't heard that in a while.

Yeah, that comes on early. It does.

It absolutely does. And did you know that if you put your fingers on the like just to the right and try to type like you think you know what letters you're typing? You don't spell the words you're looking for. So I was gonna look up Bird Note today and see what they were talking about. Okay.

You got the you got the letters wrong. Well, yeah, I did. But uh, you know, that's well, thanks for letting me ride with you today.

I'm I'm happy about it. It was kind of it was kind of nice. Was it? Yeah. It was it usually it's quiet and lonely. Turn on the radio. I do sometimes. I just check to see if everything's working. I listen and I go, okay, and then I turn it down.

Now I like to I gotta get myself pumped up. So I turn on loud music. Yesterday is not always loud.

Uh bird note was about how hearing bird song can help decrease anxiety. Oh. Yeah. That's true. Yeah, isn't that neat? Yes. Anyway.

Good morning.

Well, today's good news is straight from Japan. And if you were gonna question where a story like this would ever come from, uh, you wouldn't need to because this story is very Japan.

Okay. Last year, a stray kitten named Nakano-san was found at a train station near Tokyo, and the kitten was in rough shape, shivering, thin, barely able to open its eyes. So the staff at the train station nursed uh this kitten back to health and noticed how affectionate she was with commuters, and now they've promoted Nakano-san to the role of station master.

Love it. Her duties include greeting passengers, inspecting the station, knocking the computer mouse onto the floor, napping, and uh, you know, doing so on important paperwork. Uh, because that's what cats do.

Uh I just want to have those kind of job responsibilities.

Knock a mouse on the floor

and then be like, I'm gonna take a nap. Mm-hmm.

She's become so popular uh that she's now bringing in tourists, train buffs, and cat lovers from all across Japan. She has boosted tourism, they've put her on merchandise now for the historic 100-year-old railway. It's incredible. Uh great looking cat. But it's really getting a little out of hand, if you ask me with merchandise and everything. They really buy into this. There's a dog who waits at the train station for his own. Put him on merch.

It's a cat, isn't it? A cat.

This is I'm just saying, they've done this before. This is Japan. A cat shows up, and the cat's like, I don't feel good. And they're like, we got you, cat. Here, have a fish. And also make us some money. Put him on merch. That's pretty funny. Good looking cat, though. Uh, and that is good news.

I was watching some TikToks last night. I was just scrolling on TikTok, and then I came across one, and you said, Are you watching sad TikToks again? I go, Yes. And sure enough, tears falling down my face. Watching sad TikToks.

Yeah, I saw that. I saw that you you're little single tier alligator style. There were more than just one.

They were leaking from both eyes. Do you want to know what the sad TikTok was? What was it? It was uh an older woman who couldn't care for her dog anymore. So she had to surrender her dog to the animal shelter.

That's really sad. It was really sad. It's a sad thing to watch.

And then if you watch one sad TikTok, then you get more. Then it's like, here's another sad TikTok. And you're like, okay, I'll watch this one too. And then pretty soon you're just a bubbling mess because you've just watched 16 sad TikToks. Does that ever happen to you?

My algorithm uh is different than yours.

Listen, let me be clear. I've got funny ones in there too, but you gotta have a balance. I like I like I don't like being sad, but I think crying and expressing your sad side of yourself is important too. Listen, I watched Inside Out. You have to have the joy and the sad. Yeah. You know? I do. I do know.

Here's the other thing that I know. Like, I'll get something in my algorithm that's that's a little bit emotional. And then I'll immediately go, no. Yeah. Don't show me any more of that.

That's because you can't sit in your emotions. No, I'm fine. No. I'm pretty good. No. Yeah. I don't think you're mature enough to handle your sad side. That's what I think. I'm pretty good. And I think I am emotionally mature enough to be like, you know what? This is sad. And I'm gonna sit in this emotion for a minute. And I do. Yeah, I'm I'm good with that. I don't I'm totally good.

I don't have like a problem feeling emotion. Disagree. You don't think I will feel emotion? I think you feel emotion.

I don't think you enjoy sitting in a sad emotion. Okay. But but why? You tell me. You tell me, Josh. Let's have a therapy minute. A therapy minute. Yeah.

I feel like I'm okay sitting in uh sitting in emotions.

Okay, then let's watch some sad TikToks and we'll see. Pull up your algorithm. Here's what happens. You've been starting to get some sad.

Yeah, I get like empty nest stuff. I get dropping kids off of college stuff. Like I've been getting all that, and I'm not sure.

And you're not here for it. I'm not here for it. I'm not okay.

But you don't sit and watch those. You swipe those away and you go, nope, not watching. You don't know that. I do too. You've told me.

I might watch a few of them. Do you really? I might. And then what happens? Do you cry? No, I don't cry.

What do you do when you're sad?

I uh I go, well, I felt that. Swipe. I acknowledge it and then I move on. Well, felt that. Next.

Okay. How do you have a release of emotions? I don't. You just don't ever. I've only actually in 23 years of knowing you, I've only seen you cry maybe five times.

Not a big release the emotions guy.

No, you're not. That's why we have to have a therapy.

A lot stays in there.

I know. It's not good. I feel fine about it. One of these days, Josh, it's just gonna, it's gonna come out at the right time or the wrong time. And then you're gonna be like, I should have let these out earlier. You're right.

I Should have let these out earlier.

It's okay. It's okay to cry. I I know there were parents in years past that were like, don't cry. It's okay. I don't think my parents were that they never said that.

They never said, you better no no son of mine's gonna cry.

I'll give you something to cry about.

Nah, that was I don't that's not how I was brought up. So I'm not I'm not like afraid to cry because I'll get you know beat up or anything. I just don't. Okay.

Let's have a good cry. Let's just Why? Let's sit in the dark. No. Listen to some sad music. Okay, what song? Have ourselves a good cry. Oh, there's so many. There's so many. You want me to pick?

You pick one sad song.

Okay. And then you pick one sad song. What's that song? Are you putting it? I don't know. The first one that comes to mind is one from the Goo Goods. Oh. That song always makes sense.

So you want a sad Google doll song. Yeah. I don't know a sad song.

We'll find some. There's plenty. Please.

Please. Sit in the dark and cry. Sounds exhausting.

I've been seeing a lot of videos of um women particularly. I'm I'm watching videos of women who are getting uh life skill lessons from their grandmothers. So it's like, let's teach you how to can and let's teach you how to make bread and let's teach you how to sew on a button. I know how to do sewing on a button.

Uh-huh. I don't know how to can. I don't know if I particularly want to know how to can.

All right. But I'm sure there's videos out there. The point is that there's lots of people who have grandparents to show them the ropes of things. And I get really sad because I lost both of my grandmothers when I was eight years old. So I've gone my whole life without a grandma. It's very sad. It is sad. And I want I would like a grandma. Or a grandpa would take a grandpa too. Like, hey Graham, let's go fishing. Show me your coin collection.

Take you fishing. I don't have a coin collection, but I'll take you fish. I have some old, I have like old coins in a Ziploc bag you can look at.

It's not the same. You know my grandpa. Because I lost my both my grandparents, my grandpa's died before I was born. I didn't meet them at all. Oh. I know. How sad. Very sad. If you are a grandparent.

You want to pass along some skills, you're you're looking.

No, I want them to pass along some skills.

That's why I said if you're a grandparent and you're wanting to pass on some skills, you're looking.

You know that I've always been like every job I've ever had. I've kind of always been like, I find the old, the oldest woman, and then I'm like, I attach myself to them. Ooh. Who's your current old woman attachment?

Name them.

I don't have one at my current jobs. I was just thinking of prior jobs. Yeah. But there was one. I used to work at a craft store. Crafts and frames in Pocatello.

Right. And there was an older woman who worked there, and I was like, hey, show me everything you know. She tried to teach me knitting. That didn't go over so well. Didn't stick. No.

Okay. What else do you want to learn? Ooh, there was uh when I was in college, there was a woman who was like going to school in college and I had a class with her, and I kind of attached myself to her, and I was like, show me what you show me what you know. And she taught me actually how to crochet.

I I thought you were gonna copy off her homework. Like you I sat close to her because she'd never suspect a young person would cheat off her papers. I'm just a nice young person.

If you are an older person, yeah, and you would like to teach somebody some skills.

What skills? You gotta be more specific. Like, do you want an abuela to teach you how to make tortillas?

Yes. Yes. No, I just want an avoila to make the tortillas for me. You don't want to learn the way. No, no. Of how to touch the hot tortilla and

deal with your hand being a little bit hot, you're gonna be okay.

I just want, yeah. I just want. Oh, if I do have an abuela, yeah, then she could also make me some tamales.

Teach you how to make tamales.

Oh no, just make me those that sure I'll learn.

We got that uh that new big stock pot. So yeah. So now when you uh we know how to make tamales. We made them with with uh with our friends. Yeah. So we got that pot we can stack them in.

Yeah, that's true. We can. I don't have the little steamer part at the bottom. I need that part. Okay. Okay, that's one skill. All right. I just mostly want to hang out.

Like, hey, grandma, let's go get a coffee. I see. Hey, grandpa, you want to go to the antique store?

You know, all of these things I do.

Yeah, but it's not the same.

Well, I'll take you fishing. I'll go to the antique store, I'll tell you stories that I remember about some of these things that I've seen. Old timey stories. Yeah. No, I'm okay.

I'm Just got my whole life without a grandparent. Sorry.

Oh, come on. You are having the saddest day.

I am having the saddest day.

We gotta we gotta turn that frown upside down. What are we gonna do? I don't know how. It's gonna take a grandparent.

Have you ever thought that you were good at something and then you met somebody who was actually good at it and then you're like, Oh, I guess I'm not so good at this.

I need to hear this story. What happened?

No, I was just reading something about things that people think they're good at until they actually meet people who are good at it. All right. And then it triggered a memory that we had recently where I I think I'm a pretty good pickleball player. I am pretty hey, what are you looking at me like that for? Josh, I am pretty okay. Once I get warmed up, I'm pretty okay. Once I can't do it. You gave me a look. I gotta put on my sweater. Why?

Because once I get warmed up, I'm good. I still don't think you know every rule. I don't know every rule.

Okay. Listen, I don't think that I'm amazing or ready for any tournaments or anything, but I think I can hold my own on the court. I've gotten some points. Listen to me. Listen to me.

I don't know that we've actually ever scored a point. Because the scoring works in a weird way. And when I play with people that know all the rules, they go, You're you you're making up your own rules as you go, I guess. And I was like, I didn't realize I was. I just thought I was playing. I my fault. We thought we knew the rules. I thought I thought I had bad mitten rules. What am I doing? I don't know.

Yeah, we went to play, we got invited to go play with your cousin and his three boys. Yeah.

And they were they were saying like scores. They had three numbers in their scores. I'm like, I don't need what are you doing.

No, we'll go to our own court. Thank you very much.

And it was a little windy and we kept losing the ball. Look, it's Yeah.

I don't I don't know why you thought we were good. When did you think whenever did you go, no, I'm pretty good at pickleball. That's why I gave you that look. You you chose uh the one of the things I have no confidence in myself in as the example of something you felt good about.

Because I think we're pretty okay. At what? At pickleball.

I think I'm pretty okay at horseshoes. And I haven't played in years, and I think I'm probably still pretty okay at horseshoes. I'm not gonna go sign up for a tournament though.

No, because there are people that train. I said, I don't think I'm good enough to participate in the tournament, but if we're just playing recreationally, then I'm pretty okay.

about it. I know all the rules of horseshoes. I don't know all the rules of pickleball. I don't know why you picked pickleball. You could have picked any you know what I thought I was really good at? Riding a mountain bike.

And then I rode a mountain bike with people that have actual practice riding mountain bikes. Brother in law. Yeah. And I went, uh see you at the end of the trail, I guess. That like I thought I knew how to ride a bike. And then I went mountain biking and I went, I don't know how to ride a bike.

No, we all went mountain biking that time, and I went, Oh, I'm just gonna stay in the back. Yeah.

That's a better example. Ever a lot of people know how to ride a bicycle. And then you go, I could probably do that on a mountain. I have a mountain bike. And then you went, mm-hmm. This is not it. This is dangerous.

No, yeah. And I went very, very slow.

Yeah, I mean, I was riding along, and our daughter had a uh terrible.

Yeah, she was trying to keep up with it. up with you guys. She flipped her bike and it was a whole thing. Yeah.

Anyway, that's that's an example. Pickleball? Why'd you pick that? I can't even tell you like the I thought I knew the two bounce rule. I thought I understood it. Right. And then I was playing with those guys, and I went, I don't even know what I don't even know what I don't know. I know. I don't even know the questions to ask.

They were like, Oh, you guys just making up your own rules. And I went no.

I was like, I thought I was playing the right way. So no, bad example. Bad example.

No, I'll never play with them again. They were much too intense.

I mean, it was it was intense. It was competitive. Yeah. I didn't know the rules. No, I didn't. I felt like I I I was really out of my element.

Yep. And I said, I'm gonna go sit down now. Thanks for the invite. But and I think they also agreed. They were like, oh, let's not invite them to play with us again.

Let's go back to playing with the four of us, huh? That sounds better. Oh, you had a friend show up who knows the rules. Come on, sub in. Yeah. That's how that went.

But Josh and Chandel, you just step to the side.

Yeah, if you guys want to go, you know, bat that around over there in the wind. That that's probably fine. I don't know what you're about to talk to, but you're throwing out Gen Z or Gen A words in here. What what is this?

Well, do you want to know about the latest dating trend?

It better not put in that armpit in my face. It is kind of I don't want to know about it. I've seen this. It's gross. Have you seen this? Yes.

The new trend is men are not showering or using deodorant before dates intentionally because they're pheromone matches.

Oh, I thought this was the other way around. What I've seen is the other way around where like uh like you would go to the gym or something like that, and then you would bring that old stinky armpit to my face.

No, but let me tell everybody what you used to do. One time zip it. It was not one time.

It's my turn to talk. No, we don't need to tell the story. So here I am pregnant. At the time. Why are you telling this horrifying story?

You were working construction Yeah. In the summer. Yes. So you would come home hot and sweaty and stinky.

Yeah.

And I was very, very sick during my pregnancies. Yeah. Everything.

And a pheromone maxing.

No, everything made me throw up. And then you would come home and purposely. One time. It was not one time. Purposely put your armpit in my face. One time. And a few times I would have to run to the bathroom. No. Are you inside? I don't remember that. Quit gaslighting me. You did that. I was pheromone max.

I don't know how I feel about this maxim.

Some men are also supposedly wearing unwashed shirts.

Does it work? Because I feel like all you're doing is smell and stink.

Yeah. The idea is that you amplify your natural musk. So you become biologically irresistible.

Listen, I've been into some shops that people have been airing out their natural musk, and I have to leave. I musk excuse myself because it's bad in there. I gotta go.

I liked your musk joke. Oh, did you? good hey I must get out of here. Right.

Yeah, I've been into a couple of shops. I walk in and I go, you ever walk in, do a circle and walk right back out. Like that's how it feels. I'm like, and we're leaving now. So no, I'm not into this.

No, I'm not into this either. And I can't imagine that there's gonna be anybody that you're trying to date that will also be into this. I just take a shower, put on some deodorant, and uh wash your shirt. Three real basic skills, and you'll feel fresh as a daisy.

Oh, yeah. Fresh as a daisy. I was even just thinking I took a shower last night before bed. Yeah. And I woke up this morning and I was like, oh, I feel so fresh. Did you?

I I didn't know that. Oh, I'm so fresh. That's amazing for you. I'm so happy.

Just take a sh take a shower. Yeah. Put on some deodorant. Please. Everyone will thank you.

And I might be able to hang out in those shops for longer than as long as long as I can hold my breath.

Okay. I I just want to remind everyone that that's you used to stick your dirty armpit. It was more than once.

One time, and it was especially pungent that day, and I felt like sharing.

It was especially pungent.

Fair a lot of days. It was pheromone relaxing, and it was to get you to love me more. And look how much it worked. It did not. You couldn't love me more. Look at been together a lot of years. What is wrong with me?

There is a goodwill store that's going to be opening, but this one is a special goodwill because it's a specially branded record store. Wait a minute. It's called Rewind. And it's a cool name. And it's specifically focused on vinyl CDs, cassettes, Blu-rays, and DVDs. And I feel like this is just a regular, Like good old Hastings. Remember Hastings?

I love Hastings.

I know, I miss Hastings.

And guess what's in where in the building where Hastings used to be? Goodwill. Goodwill. Yeah. Yeah. Isn't that fun? Are they opening that here?

No, that's going to be in North Carolina.

Here's the here's the problem that I have with it. Okay, what? I have one problem. Okay. And it's the same problem that I have with not having a Sierra here. When you have a specialty store for those items, all of the items that are collected nationally get distributed to those stores. So if the if this catches on and they go, this is a huge hit. People want to buy me physical media, and they're buying this used physical media, and they have video game consoles and they have VCRs and they have cool stereos and boom boxes. All of the stuff that gets donated nationally that fits into that category will be sent to those stores for redistribution because that's how they're gonna make money. So my point about Sierra is that like TJ Maxx doesn't carry a lot of dude stuff like they used to.

Their men's sections have gotten smaller and smaller and smaller over the years because Sierra gets all that inventory. And we don't have that here. So it bugs me. You see? Bring a Sierra. Settle. I have I have opinions. Yeah, I could tell. So I'm excited about that. But I have to go clear to North Carolina to do it.

No, because we have a store like this here, the Entertain Mart. Sure. In the mall. Sure. Carries used vinyl and CDs and You bet. And VHS. I don't know if they have VHS, but they have DVDs.

Probably. But that's still a little bit different. It's a little bit different. Yeah. Because like you're not wrong. We do have that place. But I mean, think about like CD World, budget tapes and records, like all of the like record stores of the past, right?

Of course, yes. Sam Goody, like CD World.

All of these places were so cool. Now that's a dentist's office and a panera. Like every time I drive by, I go, I used to buy CDs and posters.

Yeah, I know. Every time I try five dentists. That used to be a cool place. Yeah.

And now people go there to clean their teeth and feel their bellies. And get a sandwich. Yeah. Um, anyway. Uh yeah, it'd be cool to see this here. That would be cool. But that's what's gonna happen. And that bums me out. Because all of that cool stuff is gonna be harder to find locally because they're gonna say, if if it fits into these categories, put it in a box and then they send it to their warehouse, and then it'll get distributed into these stores. Good for them. Cool idea, bums me out. I have opinions. Want to hear another one? Sure. No, you don't.

I thought you were gonna start this conversation.

Well, I will if you want. Because uh I'm just gonna I'm gonna say right now, either uh I can cook some soup, or that recipe was just really good. Or both.

Yesterday we talked about having tomato soup for dinner. Right.

Because it's a soup season.

It's when did that happen? You just yelled at me that fall doesn't start until the middle of the month, and then you're like, it's soup season. I you think every day is soup season. I love soup. Right. I could eat soup every day. Yeah.

Uh, but it's especially delicious in the in the colder months. And it's a little bit chilly at night these days. I went to let the dog out last night and she decided to play with her ball, and I was waiting, and I was like, ooh, there's a chill in the air. Anyway, you are not excited about having tomato soup for dinner because you don't necessarily feel like soup is a meal, it's more of a side.

That's right. Unless it's like a hearty like a lasagna soup. Okay, sure. Or a tortilla soup, or a chili, or a taco soup.

Yeah, something like something with like structure. Yes, some substance.

Like, I don't think like even chicken noodle soup is not a meal. And that's got stuff in it, but I feel like that's a great side to a nice sandwich for lunch. So tomato soup for dinner.

I went, oh, And I told you, I go, it has Italian sausage in it. Well, I knew that. And we could put in like some tortellini or something. Yeah. To make it more hearty. And I said, no. And I said, but it it also has cheesy bread. Yeah, oh boy.

So I made it last night. Yeah. And uh I it got five out of five stars.

From everyone in the family.

It got five out of five stars. It was super good. It was super. And we have we have a little bit left over, and I'm I'm not mad that I'm not eating it today as leftovers because I will be eating it tomorrow. Yeah. Uh, but today we have other plans. So uh, so that's fine. But tomorrow, I'm really looking forward to eating that soup again.

I know. I also garliced up, I buttered and garlic the bread and then put the cheese on top, so I turned it into a garlic bread instead of just a cheesy bread. Uh, but the soup was super good.

I was pretty stoked that everybody liked it. It was it's that's rare when you can find a meal that everyone in your house likes.

Yeah, that was delicious. Even you, you were like, Yeah, this is good. Well, I I had to taste it to see if I had seasoned it enough with salt and pepper and stuff at the end of cooking it. I took a bite and I went, You gotta be kidding me. This is super good. I was like, you are this is gonna knock your socks off. And then you ladled it up and you took a bite and you went, mmm. Five out of five. Like immediately. You were like, this is the best tomato soup I've ever had in my life.

I don't know if it's the best. It was pretty top tier. Oh, it had peas in it too. Yeah, I like the peas in it. The kids really like the peas in it too.

I thought they'd be put off. It was so good. It sounds gross when we're like tomato soup with sausage and peas. I'm telling you guys, it was good. Okay. I was looking at something earlier and I did an audible gasp. What was it? And you went, what?

Yeah, because you wouldn't tell me. You just kept going, whoa, whoa. Whoa. What is it?

This is a big deal, Josh. And you're gonna be shocked. What is it? This is a mind-blowing discovery in the original 1985 Super Mario Brothers for the NES.

So the original the original Super Mario Brothers game. Yep. Okay.

It has gone viral, this discovery. Uh proving that it still holds secrets 40 years after its launch.

Uh did someone find a new warp or something?

Gamers have recently discovered they're calling it a glitch, but I think it might be intentional. So if you have a power-up or like a big or a fire thing that falls down a hole in the game, you can jump up and catch it. Say that again. Oh, I'll show you, and maybe you can explain it a little bit better. Okay.

So you turn down the volume. Yeah, that's fine. Okay, hold on. So the mushroom falls down the hole. Yeah. He jumps up, gets the mushroom. Jumps up. Yeah. Check that out.

Well, that's strange.

I know. And now I want to play.

You can jump up to get it. Yeah. I've I do feel like that's a glitch. I feel like somewhere in the game code, because they only have so many pixels to work within, especially in that format, like in the old 3-4 TV. Uh-huh.

I'm thinking that maybe because of the way the pixel mapping works, anything because the way it scans the lines, anything that would fall down would essentially the next code would put it up high. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, so I think that's exactly what's happening.

It has all this. I mean, you said it in like layman's terms. Well, so I have the I have the gamer code. This phenomenon relies entirely on a classic 8-bit hardware wraparound bug rather than pulling the item directly.

Yeah.

When an object asset falls past the lowest vertical boundary of the screen, the game's internal coordinates briefly loop back around to the absolute top. Correct. Active RAM. It's talking about all kinds

of no, I understand because it's ones and zeros. That's the only reason I understand that. Yeah.

I don't know if I even properly explained it.

I don't even care about the explanation.

I'm just the way a TV works.

I no, it's okay. It's all right. This is one thing that one, you don't need to mansplain because I don't care enough.

I wasn't that was geek splaying. That's not even mansplain.

I don't even want to know. I just want to try it.

Well, I understand how it works, and it is a bit of a glitch. More than I mean, it's it's built into the game. So it's it's the way the game coding works. And I wonder if someone figured it out on accident. Yeah. Or if they went, I wonder because of the way 8-bit gaming works if that would work, and it did. Do you want to uh this winter

because we're gonna be spending a lot of time inside? Do you want to uh play Mario? No, why? Why?

I have a different video game I'll be playing.

What video game are you? Uh you're gonna be playing that dumb one. And I don't want to play that one. I know. Fine. I'll find something else to do. What? It's fine.

You have your little micro NES thing upstairs. You can play that.

If I if my friend Christina was here, yeah, she would play with me. I know because we did. We we defeated successfully conquered Super Mario Brothers. Oh, I know. You're good at that. I am good at that. Fine. I'll need somebody else to play Super Mario Brothers with me this winter. Okay. If you're up for it, give me a phone call. Whatever.

Your phone's not ringing. No, I you know those videos that say uh like they're comparing partners, like married couples, and they say there's things that say like one person always fills up their gas tank, and and one person always has an empty gas tank and they marry each other.

Oh, yeah, okay. I know what you're talking about. That took a minute to describe. But no, I know what you're talking about. Yeah. We're gonna be like, it's weird how one person with you know crippling anxiety and a person who can drive in silence, marry each other. Yeah, got it.

That felt a little dark.

I'm just saying, uh like it's weird how that happens.

I don't have crippling anxiety. I'm not crippled by it. Do I get nervous about a lot of things? Yes. Does it stop me from doing them? No. So go on. Okay.

There is I can't be alone with my thoughts, or else I'll talk to myself the whole drive in.

It's not that I can't be. Just prefer not to be. Yeah, correct. Right. Just like you avoid you avoid crying. I avoid being alone with my thoughts. Okay, great. We each have our thing. Sure.

And we found each other. Go ahead. Oh.

Um, I was watching a video about a couple who they were going to a party. And she walked in and she was like, woo! And he was kind of like held back in the corner, like, and it was like energy levels. So it was like one person's energy is through the roof. The other person is like, I'll just stay, I'll just sit here. Yeah, no. And that's and they marry each other. That's right That is correct.

You hear a song on in a public space, and you're like, let's go. This is my song. And I go, Oh, I'm gonna go look at the wall. Hello wall. Yeah.

I've been known to dance in grocery stores.

Well, yeah, but I mean, even in this, like this it looked like they were walking into like a reception or something.

Yeah, it was like a wedding reception. They were they were headed into like where dancing was gonna be part of the plan.

And she was ready. And he was like, I don't really want to be here.

We were at a wedding once and it was on a golf course, and you had to use golf carts to kind of go to the restroom because they were further farther away.

Farther away. Yeah. And I took a break from dancing to go to the restroom. And you go, I'll drive you in the golf cart. And as we were getting into the golf cart, a song came on.

I was like, oh, I gotta dance to do it. Yeah, I know. And I went, I'll be in the golf car waiting then.

Yeah. And we found each other.

And we're married.

So sometimes I can rope you into my energy. Sometimes you can match. I wouldn't say match. Sometimes you get close to matching my energy. No. You're miles up here.

And then I'm down here going like I can jump pretty high. But I'm never going all the way up there. You are.

And then I get in your face and I'm like, I know.

And I go, calm down. I will not be calm. It's quiet time. You're like, uh-uh. My dance is on. Gotta dance. Settle down. Settle down. Can't tame me. No, I cannot. I gave I gave up trying a long time ago. Would you rather this or that?

This is a real life, would you rather? Okay. Would you rather go to work or go try fair food?

Oh, go try fair food, which is what we're about to do. I'm so excited. Today's always a good day. It's the day before the fair starts. Tomorrow the fair kicks off in black with the Eastern Idol State Fair. And every day before the fair kicks off, they have a big uh fair food competition. They invite all of the media from East Idaho to show up.

Uh and we get to go try all these different foods and then uh talk about them. And so that's what's happening today. Because you've been in radio for so long, you've always got to go. And I've always been like, oh, and you kept sending me pictures. And now that I'm in radio, I get to also go.

That's right. I took the day off of work from my other job to do this. And my boss, when he approved my time off, he was like, Are you doing anything fun? And I went. no.

I was I was embarrassed to tell him.

You're embarrassed to say you're gonna go eat a bunch of fair food?

No way. That's proudly proclaim. I am going to eat fair food.

Uh yeah. So would I rather work or try fair food? Yeah, I'm gonna try fair food. Fair food. Yeah, I'm gonna go try new fair food and classics and see what what's what's happening with the foods at the fair. Yeah, it's a great day. And then take a nap afterward.

Oh, big time. I'm getting my oil changed. I'm headed to to do that this afternoon. I'm gonna have to like sit there for an hour and digest. That's gonna be a long, tired hour.

Yeah, your sugar crash is gonna hit. Big time.

Uh in the anyway. That's uh would you rather this or that? Do you have anything else to say about it? I do not. Yeah, me neither.

I was just reading something that said Gen Z is falling in love with old things again.

I'm not surprised. I've seen this. We were talking earlier about physical media uh and stores opening up that are gonna resell uh use CDs and cassettes and vinyl and all that kind of stuff. Yeah, big time.

Gen Z is 14 to 29 years old. Yeah. And they are they want printed photos, they're reading paper books, digital cameras. Our daughter wants a digital camera, really bad. Right.

Like a point and shoot camera, not like I don't want to use my phone for everything. Right. Like they want a vintage look of things. Right.

Board games instead of watching TV. Analog clocks, which I disagree with this. I don't think anybody's doing this because they don't know how to tell time. Well, they'll work on that. Big hand little hand, you know.

I've worked on a high school at a high school. We had analog clocks and none of them. If I said if I say it's a quarter after two, what time is that? 25.

It's 225. They're saying chess is getting popular again. They're writing things down in notebooks rather than typing it up. They're preferring a wristwatch instead of a smartwatch, which Emory mentioned the other day.

She was like, I want just a watch. Really? But again, you gotta know how to read time. Well, they have digital watches. No, I know, but she wants like an analog wristwatch. Really? They're going back to maps instead of using GPS, which I just I don't do that. No way.

Not when you can say the address into your phone and it pops up on your dash and you can go there in your car. Nah.

I agree that they're writing things down. And I am only saying I agree with this because we live with a couple of Gen Zers. We do. And they are doing some of these things. They're writing things down more.

They are using they want digital cameras, they're reading paper books. But I disagree with the fact that they're like, no, we want analog clocks or we want maps. Disagree. You do.

Yeah, they're not like, oh, I'm gonna bust out the uh the old atlas and find my way to town. No. No. No, you're not. Yeah. I I think that there's some truth in there. Uh, but a lot that's such a generalization.

Anytime they do a generation thing, they go, oh, the generation is doing this in the whole generation is doing this thing. And you can't do that. There are individuals that are into these things, and there are other individuals who are like, I will never ever do that. That's such an inconvenience. Why would I do that? It's such a digital world, and I love it. And so yeah, no, you can't you can't go, look at this. Is my biggest paintbrush. Everyone falls under this thing I just said. Who are they talking to? They didn't ask our kids.

So our kids are doing things.

No, I know, but they didn't they didn't send a survey to every Gen Z. Like they just go like, oh, this is a trend we see based on consumerism. Okay.

All right, sure thing. The whole generation's doing it. The whole generation. All right. Well, hey, let's wrap up this show so we can go eat some fair food. How about that? Let's have a good rest of your Thursday.

We'll be back tomorrow on your Friday as we get ready to kick off Labor Day weekend. Yeah, baby. Yeah.

Whoa. Very exciting. Have a great rest of your day. We'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
