The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The feast of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, Confessor, September 10 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today's feast, Dom Gaspar Lefebvre writes the following. Nicholas called of Tolentino on account of his long sojourn at this place received the baptismal name of the holy bishop of Myra because he was born after a pilgrimage made by his parents to the tomb of the great miracle worker at Bari. Following the example of his holy patron, although only seven years old, he fasted several times a week.
Vox Liturgica:Listening one day to a sermon by a preacher of the order of hermits of Saint Augustine on contempt of the world, he determined to give up all he possessed and to enter that order. He is represented holding a lily because he was always a model of innocence and purity. He died in the year of our Lord 1308. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
Vox Liturgica:The introit. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree. He will grow to greatness like the cedars of Lebanon, planted in the temple of the Lord, growing up in the very courts of the house of our God. Sweet it is to praise the Lord, to sing most high God in honor of thy name. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be, through all ages of ages.
Vox Liturgica:Amen. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree. Give heed, Lord, to our entreaties on this festival of thy blessed confessor Nicholas.
Vox Liturgica:So that we, who put no trust in our own right doing, may be helped by the prayers of him who has won your favor. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians. Brethren, we have been made a spectacle to the whole creation, men and angels alike.
Vox Liturgica:We are fools for Christ's sake. You are so wise. We are so helpless. You so stout of heart. You are held in honor while we are despised.
Vox Liturgica:Still as I write, we go hungry and thirsty and naked. We are mishandled. We have no home to settle in. We are hard put to it working with our own hands. Men revile us and we answer with a blessing, persecute us and we make the best of it.
Vox Liturgica:Speak ill of us and we fall to entreaty. We are still the world's refuse. Everybody thinks himself well rid of us. I am not writing this to shame you. You are my dearly loved children and I would bring you to a better mind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Vox Liturgica:The gradual. Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighed are all his counsels. His steps never falter because the law of God rules in his heart. Alleluia.
Vox Liturgica:Alleluia. A blessed man is he who fears the Lord bearing all love to his commandments. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Luke. At that time, Jesus told his disciples, do not be afraid, my little flock.

Vox Liturgica:Grant we pray thee, almighty God, that our lowly offering may be welcomed to thee as honoring thy saints and may cleanse us body and soul through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The Common Preface Just it is indeed and fitting right in for our salvation that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty. The dominions worship it. The power stand in awe.
Vox Liturgica:The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Vox Liturgica:Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. I promise you who have forsaken all and followed me that you shall receive your reward a hundredfold and obtain everlasting life. The post communion.
Vox Liturgica:Let us pray. Almighty God, we pray that we who have received the bread of heaven may at the intercession of thy confessor, blessed Nicholas, be strengthened by it against all adversity through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen.
