Full show transcript:

Okay, to kick off the show here, I'd like to start by updating you on the end of the show. So I'm not gonna explain exactly what went down because I don't want to spoil it for you. Yeah, don't spoil the bit. But I do want you to know the answer is two, but they're by accident.

So the answer is two by accident. I'll take it. Okay.

So now if you're listening to the podcast and you're uh you're going like, well, I want to know what that's exactly about. We timestamp everything. So you can jump to the very end of the show, uh, where you can learn about cool cats, and uh, and then uh once you listen to that part, come back to the beginning, and then you'll go, oh okay, two, but by accident. Yeah. Because there just happened to be two.

As I was walking down, there was one who came out of his office. Yeah. And I said, Where are you going? Yeah. He goes, to the fridge. Right.

And then the other one was already there. Filling up, yeah, he was just there.

And I went, What are you here for? He goes, filling up my water bottle. Right. So two I'll take it. By accident.

That's all. I just wanted to update at the beginning of the show. I want to update you on the end of the show. So now you can listen to the whole show and wait until the very end, all that anticipation growing to go two by accident. What does that mean?

What does it mean? Yeah. Or jump ahead, go listen to the end of the show, get the answer that you now know is two by accident, and then start at the beginning again. Uh you can jump around. That's what's great about timestamps. Jump around. Yeah.

Jump up, jump up, and get down.

Let's start today's show. Hello. Hello. Hi, good morning. How's it going on your side of the room? What day is it? Thursday. Thursday. Yeah. Look at us. Making it through a whole week. Yeah.

I mean, Monday was difficult because we had had five days off. Tuesday. I was like, I'll never make it. Tuesday I felt real tired. Yes.

Yesterday, not bad. Not a bad day overall. Right. And then uh, you know, pretty productive, I felt. And now today. And I got like today and tomorrow. And then I'll be off for a week. Yeah, who? Yeah, and you'll be off for a week.

Yeah, who? So, you know, five days uh off, four days on now, soon to be five, and then five off. Five on five off. I love it. Five off. I kind of like it. Like I kind of like it.

Now, you are going backpacking for a week. Yeah. And because I don't do this show without you. Right. I took the time off too. Right. Um, I didn't take time off of my other job, so I still have to work.

That's true. But now I'm trying to determine, and I still haven't made up my mind yet. I'm not gonna do the show alone because I don't know how. I can show you. I don't wanna. Plus also, that's gonna be the most boring show ever. Why?

Me. You're you're a hilarious. I am hilarious. See, you'd be just fine. But I don't work alone. You could just pretend I was here.

I'm not hilarious alone.

You could put up a cardboard cutout and you could talk to it. And you'd be like, right. Of course. And then it would always agree. You could just you could say anything you wanted, and it would be like, you're correct, Chantel. I could I could pre-record some reactions, a couple of laughs in there. So you could just hit buttons, and then uh it would be like ha ha ha.

Sounds great.

It'd be interesting for five days. No.

No, and I was gonna say, like, I don't I don't necessarily want to go a week without getting paid. Yeah. Because I don't get PTO. Right. Because I'm just a part-timer here. Right. But I haven't decided if I want to come in or not.

I just sent you a list of Chantel projects that I put together yesterday. So if you want to look at like things that I was thinking you could work on.

No. These are the four kind of things I came up with a few, you know, little tiny instructions or you know, little details on where to find things in the system, stuff like that. You don't like these projects? I just don't want to work. But I want to get paid. Oh.

I want I want to stay home and also get paid.

Uh these are pretty low impact projects. I understand that. I don't like you could you could be here kind of just hanging out and doing some of these smaller little things that would be helpful to the show and to the station, but would also get you paid, but that also they're not like heavy lifting projects. I'll think about it. Oh, okay.

Sure. I don't want to have to get up early. Like, wouldn't it be nice to just sleep in a little bit?

Yeah, I have to leave Sunday at like five in the morning.

Yeah, well, this is something that you chose to do. I don't feel sorry for you. But then I get to walk for 50 miles. Yeah, again, something you chose.

And sleep in the woods. And this is the weirdest part about sleeping in the woods, which I'm great with. I love it. Uh it's gonna be cold. Mm-hmm. Because it's gonna be like 80 degrees in the day, 80 to 90, and then overnight lows are like around freezing in the low 30s. What a what a temperamental weather system it is over there.

Sounds fun.

It's gonna be fine. I'll be in my cozy sleeping bag. I'll be plenty warm. And once the sun hits in the morning, uh-huh, it's gonna be like instantly. Ready to go. It's gonna warm up so fast. Yes. Yeah. Well, anyway. It's kind of what's up. Couple of projects for you to do. I think you can nail these.

Yeah, I know I can. I just what time do I have to be here? That's up to you. It is.

Oh, yeah. You don't have to be here super early. I mean, even if you were getting a couple hours a day, you'd feel like you were it was worthwhile. Yeah. Or if I came three hours one day.

Yeah. And then didn't come the next day. And then maybe I see. Like, can I pick and choose when I come here? Yes. Okay. I'll think about it. Okay. Well, Okay.

Well, while you think about that, let's go ahead and have a Thursday, huh? Sure. Okay, good morning. Let's go ahead and get you some good news as soon as you fight your way into your chair. You got it? I'm here. You did it. I'm good. Having a battle over there.

I'm good. Uh more than 120 bikers. Uh, these are motorcycles.

Uh, they revved their engines for a good cause last weekend in Bull Falls, Harley Davidson in Rothschild, Wisconsin, for the 12th annual Christmas in July charity ride. Uh, which is kind of fun. That's right.

That's right. Uh, Greg Semke, I'm gonna guess is how you say that, is kind of the head organizer of this thing, known in the community as Santa Greg. Uh, motorcycle riders made their way from Rothschild to uh Marshfield Children's Hospital to deliver roughly 10,000 donated toys. Whoa. That's 10,000. Crazy. Yes.

That's amazing. How did they get all of those toys?

Santa Greg said we have thousands of toys to deliver today. We got probably over 120 bikers here today to ride with us to go to the hospital to visit those kids that are in the hospital and give them some smiles, give them some joy, give them some comfort. The event was made possible by overwhelming community donations. And the annual tradition continues to grow bigger each year, helping brighten the days of thousands of kids treated at the hospital.

Here's 10,000 donated toys. That's pretty incredible. Amazing. Unbelievable. Plus, can you imagine how loud 120 some odd Harleys man? That's just crazy. Anyway, really cool. Do they just allow Harley bicycles in their program?

I don't know. Harley bicycles? You bring your Harley Davidson bicycle.

Are they accepting of all? motorcycles?

I I would like to think that they probably are open to a few other folks. Like when I get my Vespa. Yes.

Would I be able to room room with them? Probably. Okay. When is that happening? I don't know. I kind of want one real bad. Lately I've been like, I really want a Vespa. Cool. I know, I know. Won't I look so cute? Yes.

I've been saying this for years. I've had my bike for like six years. This October is six years. Yeah. And uh I've been saying ever since I got mine. We gotta get you a Vespa. Yeah, then we can ride together. Get that cute little helmet. Do the little streets. Through the little streets. Yeah. And I'll be vroom vroom. Well, we're gonna have to talk about that. Anyway. Good news, Santa Greg. You know Banana Ball.

I do know Banana Ball. I want to go to Banana Ball.

I do too. I know so badly. I tried last year to get us tickets to try to go when they were in Salt Lake. Uh did not get chosen in the lottery, uh, which was a bummer. I know some folks in this building who did and went. Who? Jake.

How did he get picked?

He and his wife both got picked. So they had tickets and they went. They had a good time. I know. Why'd they pick Jake? I don't know. Maybe because he's a baseball coach.

He is a baseball coach. Maybe that's why. I don't know.

I didn't put in any any information about like, do you coach baseball? Like they didn't ask. Anyway, uh this weekend, Bananaball makes its Idaho debut. Where? In Boise on the blue. How do we not know about this? Well, you can't get tickets. Both days are sold out. Of course. Uh the lottery already happened. I missed it. I didn't even know.

I didn't know either. I didn't even know until today that it starts tomorrow. Friday and Saturday, banana ball at the blue in Boise. I'm I wish I was gonna be going. Me too.

Um have you seen videos of banana ball? Many. Okay. Don't worry about it. I've seen many.

Uh the Texas Tailgators and the Party Animals are the other teams that will be playing against the Savannah Bananas.

Have you seen the Umpire?

You know how they have the. dancing videos? Yeah, I've seen the dancing umpire.

He's my favorite part. I would go see him just to see the Umpire. What's the matter? What are you looking at? Don't worry about it.

Friday and Saturday, though. It's gonna be awesome. Um, if you did get tickets, they will apparently drop in your inbox day of the game. I want to go so bad. I do too. It looks so cool. I know.

Yeah. Um, I've seen a couple of pictures of uh the turf, uh, which is kind of uh exciting and fun. Um they kept the field blue, which I think is cool. But they put a baseball diamond at the north end of the of the arena, so uh, which is really kind of the stadium, I guess. It's the stadium, Albertson Stadium. Uh it's completely sold out uh because of the ticket lottery system uh that they use.

Which honestly, uh there's such high demand for banana ball. That's the only way they could do it. Otherwise, it it's the only way they could do it and keep the prices affordable for everybody because the tickets are not overly expensive, from what I understand. Um, if you get chosen in the lottery, and that's why there's such demand, because they really strive to make the game affordable for people to get there.

So it should be a lot of fun. Um, if you don't know the rules of banana ball, apparently there's a bunch of rules uh that I didn't know were different. I would have to look these up.

Let me see if I can find these really quick. Because banana ball would be a ton of fun. All the dancing, all the uh the walkouts for the players, like all that stuff looks really, really fun. Making baseball fun. Yeah. Because let's be real.

Watching just regular baseball, boring.

The team that scores the most runs in an individual inning is awarded one point. The final inning works differently where every single run counts as a point. So every every home run is not necessarily a point until the final inning.

So you could get four home runs, but then the other guys get a bat and they get five, they get one point. Interesting. Yeah.

That's that is cool. There is a two-hour time limit. The game stops two hours. Great. Right? Great.

Yeah. You have to remain in the batter's box during your at bat. If you step out, that's an automatic strike. There is no bunting. Uh you can steal first in banana ball. Figure that out. I don't know. You just go for a run.

I just want to go see the dancing umpire. There are no walks.

Uh on ball four, the batter takes off running and can advance as many bases as they want. These are cool rules. This could be interesting to watch. Okay.

We gotta get on the list so that we get notifications of when you can enter the lottery. For sure. For I want to go see them. Yeah. We got to get to banana. They gotta get more teams. That's what they need to do. They need to get more teams so that it's more accessible.

Um, I think they're working on that. I think they are too. Like, I think they're expanding, like, they're doing like like an actual like full-on banana ball league with with supporting uh like little leagues and stuff like that. Like people are playing banana ball, it's taking over baseball. Good. It's really fun. Because it's super fun. Yeah. Well, it's happening this weekend in Boise. If you don't have tickets, sorry, you're

just like tickets and you can't go, call me. I'll buy your tickets. Well, depending.

Yeah, don't go trying to make a million dollars off me because I am in radio. But anyway. Let's go play some banana ball or watch. You want to play? No, let's watch. You don't want to dance and then throw a pitch? I'll just I'll just dance. Okay.

I don't need to throw a pitch. That sounds like a good time. Did you ever have detention? I don't want to talk about him. Oh. Because you have this impression that I am squeaky clean. Squeaky clean.

No, tell me your bad boy detention story.

Go. I'm trying to remember how I ended up there. But yeah, one time. How old were you? This was I'm trying to remember if it was in junior high or if it was in high school. I'm trying to remember the office, and I'm pretty sure it was in high school.

Okay, but what did you do to get you there?

I'm it's been a long time since I've thought about my one day of after school. Was it after school or in school?

Man. Why are you avoiding the question that I keep asking?

I don't remember what got me there. I said that at the top. I can't remember exactly. I know uh me and my friend Lee got in trouble, but I don't remember what for. And that's why I'm tending to think it was in junior high. Okay. That's it could have been in high school. That part's irrelevant.

I just want to know how you got there. I it's probably squirt guns. Oh they don't like it when you do that. But So that feels like ninth grade. I'm pretty sure that's ninth grade. Yeah. So that was still at the time, ninth grade was still junior high.

I never had detention. Never. Never. Never. If I did, I cannot remember it.

And I think I just had to sit there for like I had like an hour. Like where I had to like sit there.

And think about your actions. And think about what I've done. You didn't write on the chalkboard.

Yeah, I will not bring squirt guns to school.

There was something one time I went to the principal's office. I was in sixth grade. I think you know the story.

Do you want to is this when you got in the fight? No. Oh, okay. That was at the school bus. Yeah, I didn't know if this was the school bus fight with another another girl named Chantel. Yes.

I was like, there can't be two of us.

That's right. We've got to settle this right now. New kid.

One of us has to be the winner.

Two Chantels enter. Only one can leave. It was not me who left. Elementary school, bus stop Thunder Dome.

Uh what happened? When I got sent to the principal's office? Yeah. There was, this was in sixth grade, and there was a there was a boy who was very, very smart, and he but he also loved Ren and Stimpy. Oh, I know what you did. And he used to know what you did. Ren and Stimpy.

Yeah, you quoted it and it was not a good line.

Well, I quoted it and wrote it. He got called to a National Geography B, and so we wrote a big poster for him, and I used a Ren and Stimpy quote that he used to say, except I wrote it down.

Which was the big with your name next to it. I know. Smart. Yeah, Ren and Snpy weren't necessarily known for their uh well, they were well known for their blue humor and their pushing of boundaries in the in the cartoon space.

Now listen to me when I tell you that it was hilarious. I'm sure it was. And the fact that I wrote it on the poster board was hilarious. Yeah. It was for a good joke. And I'll go to the principal's office again for a good joke.

The what do you remember the first? Was that the only time you ever got called down? I was gonna say, do you remember the first time you got called to the principal's office? Because I do. What did you do? Second grade.

Oh got called to the uh principal's office

to find out I was the student of the week. Let's go. They took my picture out front. I got put up on a bulletin board. I got a pencil that said student of the week. Let's go. Love a good pencil.

You are so dangerous.

That was the first time I got called down to the principal's office. But it was not the last.

I never got to be student of the week. Oh man.

You never got pulled out of class and you were all nervous and they were like, congratulations. And then they did it in the morning before they did the morning announcements, and so then they announce you while you're standing in the office, and it was a whole thing. Wow. It was a whole thing. Look at me.

What are the qualifications for student of the week? Handsome.

Oh. No, I'm sure it had to do with like reading and uh helping other people at the school.

Or they had gone through all the other students and they were like, well, we haven't picked this kid yet.

Let me have my moment.

You have to find me in a crowd, but you can't use my name.

Well, currently I'll just smell for fingernail polish. What are you doing?

Settle down, taking advantage of my time. Man, that stuff's potent.

What is in it that makes it so car paint? It's made out of car paint, isn't it? I have no idea. Anyway.

Anyway, how are you finding me in a crowd? I can't say your name. You can't say my name. Say my name, say my name. That's how.

I'll just say a couple of lyrics to a song and you'll sing them out, and I'll go, there she is.

Okay. What is it? What's it gonna be? I want specifics.

I'm working on it, man. Settle down. My go-to.

This is when I can't find you. Uh well, I yell your name usually. Yeah.

If I can't find you, I clear across a store. Joshua. And I go. And then I run the other way. She'll never find me over here.

But I do. I always find you.

Because I don't move fast enough. I gotta move quicker.

If I couldn't say your name though, I would do the old like, look up here, look up here. Yeah. That's when I've used before in the store. It's effective. Or I'll say, um.

That's another one that we do. Yep. It's a signal. We need a signal.

Right. We were at the grocery store just last night, and I was picking up backpacking food for the next week, and I was grabbing things, and uh, my arms just get fuller and fuller and fuller. And then I'm I've got like I'm dropping things, and I'm like, I gotta find the cart. Where do they go? You're clear across the store. Yeah, I'm still on the first aisle with my arms full of stuff, and you're clear at the other end.

before. Where you've left me behind. Where you've left me behind, or I've left you. Either way, we've separated.

You wander off. We've had this conversation. Yeah. You're a wanderer. I'm like, I'm shopping here, and you're like, I'm bored, I'm out. But you took the cart with you.

So then I'm like, Yeah, normally I don't take the cart, and then I'm the one with a handful of goods.

Usually that's but I'm usually real slow moving down the aisles, so you just have to walk back to find me. That's you took off.

That's why I leave you. To walk through the whole store. Emery asks, because she was with us last night and I took off, and she goes, Are you and dad fighting? And I go, no, why? And she goes, Well, you just keep leaving him behind. And I go, Because I'm bored of shopping. So I'm not sure.

I have uh I have my whole list, and I'm going down the aisles trying to check things off, and I'm like, I got I should have got my own cart.

But also, I didn't want to be at the store any longer than we had to be, and it was taking a long time, and so then I was like, I'm just gonna divide and conquer. I gotta go clear to this other end of the store. I'm gonna do that and come back. Leave the cart with me. No, because then I would have had a handful of stuff to carry back. Yeah.

To where I was easily found. And then the horrific scene that uh was was displayed in the cart when I caught up. Just horrible. Absolutely horrible. I had put I had put like three items up in the corner because you were filling the baby butt area with a bunch of produce, which gross. Hate that. Ugh. And so I had put a few things, uh a couple of cans and avocado down on the bottom in a in a corner. Yeah. And then I was like, great, I'll just use this little corner for my stuff that I'm putting in here. And I showed up, and that cart was destroyed.

Unreal I had I had two gallons of distilled water, and you go, Oh, you could put those in the bottom.

Yeah, I didn't. No, you plopped them down on top of everything else. This is crazy.

Okay, you haven't even answered the question. What are you how are you finding me in a crowd without using my name? Let me ask you a question. Sure.

Why am I finding you in a crowd? Why weren't you just with me? Stay put. That's the better question. Why am I trying to find you in a crowd? When you should be right where I left you. No. Can't. Quit wandering off.

No, I'll never stay put.

So maybe I'm just gonna have to teach you a lesson. And I'll just stand in one spot until I see you wander by looking for me. That's my solution. Because that's what you're supposed to do when you're lost, is stay put. Yeah, you can't do that. So I'm not gonna do that. I'm not lost. I know where I am. You wandered off. I'm gonna stand somewhere tall, so I have a good vantage point, and I'm just gonna keep my eyes open until you wander by going, where do you go? And I'll go, there she is.

I'm I just looking the whole aisles.

Yep. I'll find you. That's how. You'll make your presence known, and I'll go, there she is. Got it. Or I'm gonna attach like a balloon to you, a helium balloon, so I can't lose you, or some sort of like ATV flag, those little orange triangle flags. Yeah. I'll be like, I know where she is. She's wandering around. I can see her. There's her antenna. Everywhere you go.

There was a time, let's say circa 1998, 1999. When I was about 17, 18, 19 years old. Okay. And I was starting to think about my future and to think about husband and family and kids and all that.

You're doing that at 17, 18, 19. I mean, yeah. Okay.

I it's not like I was like preparing to do that, but you start to think about it, what your future will look like after college, after a degree. You do? Yeah.

That's a normal thing people do. Don't worry about it. But I swore. You know what I was thinking about? 17, 18, 19. Not that.

I was thinking about other stuff too. I'm just there was like glimmers of like future decisions. Okay. And I said, I will never, I swore to myself, I will never drive a minivan. Never. And that's hold true to this day. Every time we've gone shopping for a car, everyone, the salesman's like, we have this nice minivan over here. And I go, no.

I've never had anyone say that. Which what car lots are you going to where they're like, would you like to look at our van lineup? I've not once ever had that happen. But go on and tell your story. I'm real curious to see where this is going.

is going. The point is, I never, ever, ever, ever, ever will drive a minivan. Apparently, minivans are becoming cool. It says cool again, and I go, ah. Okay, according to who? Millennials. Okay.

Minivan sales went up 21% last year. Well, here's the thing. What? There's only one minivan. Well, I know what you're gonna say. The Chrysler Pacifica. A hundred percent. Because they're saying the Toyota Sienna is the one to beat. Yeah. It's the top dog minivan.

Okay, now I gotta compare the two.

Because listen.

I'm I'm all about comparing these.

Our son is a big car guy, loves cars, loves uh, and he thinks the Chrysler Pacifica is like bomb. It's insane. It's really cool. What makes it so cool?

Uh well, I'm looking at the I'm looking at the different models here. I'm looking at the pinnacle. For another thing. I'll never drive a Chrysler. Can you just uh hold your horses on the Pacifica though? Look at the Pacifica pinnacle in white. The 2027. It's a good looking ride. What's it called? The Pacifica Pinnacle. I'm not trying.

Here's the other part. I'm not trying to rain on anybody's minivan parade. I don't. But it's just not the car for me.

Listen, we also it's it's pretty much you and I, and then the kids are driving themselves at this point, but there's something cool about having a van with all the people you can put in there. No. No. Are you looking at the 2027? Yeah. I like the front of it. I do not. Oh, I think it looks really good.

No, it's a mini. It's a minivan. I know it is. I just have never thought.

But it's got SUV styling. Like it's getting it together. It is. And you know what else I like? Dual-side sliding doors. Yeah. But they but they got rid of that rail down the side. They found a new way to do the hinges. So it looks like it's all locked up tight, which is nice. It doesn't have that ugly sliding uh rail down the side, which they got rid of that a little while ago. But this thing's got like a huge old sunroof on top.

Man, it looks good. Nah. You can get that thing in the all-wheel drive, you bet. Now we're talking. Would you drive it? Yes. You would? Yes. You would drive it here to work. Fully loaded. I would drive it to work. I would drive it to home. I would drive it all over the place.

the place You'd drive it in the car You'd drive it in I'd take it to the car walk.

I would take it to dinner. We could have so many friends in there. No.

That's precisely why I like my car. Because it's so little. Yeah, you can't fit a lot of people in it. And so I'll never be asked to drive. Oh, who's who's gonna drive us six people around? And I go, I got a little golf. I don't know. And they go, You're not driving.

Yeah, I know. I'm kind of into the the front of this one. I like all the lights on it. I think that's a cool look. The crite, it's a Chrysler. That's fine. It's the Pacifica. And when the Pacifica kind of rolled out, it has the built-in vacuum still, which was a

big selling point for you think that's cool.

Yeah, it's got the built-in vacuum. It's got there's some cool stuff in this thing. It's very cool.

I just feel like even as if if it's cool, if minivans are becoming cool, I'm I'm still not gonna jump on that trend. You could. No, I have a golf. But what about No. she doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but she is fast and she is small, and I love her. Okay. Oh, and also she's paid for. That's a good important part.

That's a pretty good important part.

Okay, so we love what's that show called? Love on the spectrum. Yes. And um part of what they do on that show, it's a dating show for uh uh young adults who are on the spectrum.

Yeah, or should we get it? Yeah, yeah. Some of them aren't young.

There's a couple of older, older people. They're just trying to date, they're just trying to find a partner, they're just trying to find a companion. They're trying to find love and it's on the autism spectrum. So sweet. We love that show. But what they do on that show that I love is they'll introduce characters and they'll say, Josh likes.

Yeah. Like this is this is Connor, and Connor likes Britain and medieval history and whatever. And then it'll say he does not like, and it'll list off uh things that he doesn't like. Right, right. Right.

So we were we had a long road trip over the weekend, and so we were discussing things that we liked and disliked.

That's right. We did our own little intros. We did.

Mine, should I do yours first? Oh, whatever you want.

You have the list. I can't remember them.

Josh likes the sound of nature. Yes. Holding a fish and cooking. Yes. Josh does not like the sound of people chewing. Yeah. Poorly organized wires and earwigs. Yeah.

These are all true. Very good. Good list.

Chantel likes to be like, what we joked about is your does not like list is the sound of people chewing. Yeah. And poorly organized wires. So then I joked around to say, Chantel likes chewing loudly. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Throwing wires in a box.

How did these guys end up together? Throwing wires in a box. That'll do. All right. Chantel likes. Where was mine?

Chantel likes singing loud in the car. True. Being barefoot. Yep. And tickles on the back of her neck. Oh, nice. Chantel does not like when people make assumptions about her. Large pieces of meat and raw chicken. Yeah. And the smell of saliva. Ugh. Gross. Right. Disgusting.

Hello. I don't also like that. That's gross. No, no, nobody likes that. It's so gross. Right. But I that smell worse than other smells.

Worse than others. That smell is worse than other smells, I'll tell you. Yeah. So if you're looking for a fun little uh exercise for yourself, three likes, three dislikes. Correct. Uh and it actually took a little bit longer to come up with with this list than I expected it to. Um, so yeah, if you're looking for a good little uh what's inward looking sort of uh process for yourself. It's a fun little thing to go, what are three things that I like that are unique about me and three things that I dislike, and then you can put together your own.

It was kind of fun to work on it together because I was struggling to come up with, and you want to be as specific as possible, and so then I was struggling to come up with like uh I mean I there's a lot of things I really like, but I want something. And you were like, Well, you do like being barefoot. You do? You're you're right. Yeah, I do like being barefoot. Right. But I do not like when things get stuck to the bottom of my feet.

I don't I don't think anybody likes that. I don't think anybody's walking around like I hope I step on something that's sticky. I don't like when I step on something in my shoe and it's sticky. Ugh.

It's not necessarily a stickiness either. It could be a pokey thing. Oh yeah. It could be this morning I stepped on a piece of dog food and I'm not a big thing.

I know. She leaves she takes a mouthful and then goes blah blah blah. What what dogs do this and why? I don't know. Both of the dogs we've had do it. Why do they do this? Why do they do that? Why do you get a mouthful of food and then you wander into another room and then you're like, nah, never mind. I don't want to, I don't want to chew on this.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I don't get that. You imagine if people did that and take a bite of broccoli and then wander over here and then go blah blah blah.

It says while the ancestors carried food away from a group to eat in peace. Oh. So your dog may share this ancestral trait. Or they could have discomfort with their food bowl.

It doesn't make sense. She eats out of the food bowl sometimes. I know.

They might move a piece of way to protect it, even if no, their pets are around.

No, because then she just leaves in the middle of the room.

It says they might have whisker fatigue. What's that? Deeper narrow bowls press against their sensitive whiskers so they pull their food out. She was just groomed. Metal bowls make clanging sounds against color tags that startles them. Nope. I think she's just a weirdo.

No, yeah. None of the typical things are making sense. No. She's just crazy. This is Luna. She likes. Tell me what's worse than getting out of a swimming pool. I completely disagree with you.

Are you serious? Yep. You like it.

Listen to me. When I tell you Phoebe Cates would completely disagree with you. And let me also say another name. You want another name? Yeah. Wendy Peppercorn.

Okay. One, not real. Two, totally fake. Three, hired hands on set to help them look good. They weren't actually in the pool.

Listen to me. When I say Squints found the best way to get out of a pool ever.

Okay. Put all of that aside. All right. Movie magic be gone. Getting out of the pool is the worst. Especially if you've been swimming and your hair is a little and you have long hair.

Listen, I've seen Christmas vacation enough to know you're wrong.

Dude, stop. So I said movie magic be gone. Those aren't real people. Hey. They're real people, but that's not a real scenario. I'm saying real to me. If you've been swimming, your hair is matted and gross. You get out of the pool. Yeah. Things aren't things have shifted and moved, and you're like, ah, I don't know what you're talking about. Now I gotta awkwardly climb this weird ladder. Or you have to walk from the deep end to the shallow end.

Right. And then as you're walking, you get higher and higher up and that's how it works, yeah. And then you're like, great.

I feel like I'm on display. Oh. And all I wanted to do was to go from the pool to the hot tub. And now I feel awkward. Oh. I I don't mind it. I don't have a problem with it. Think about you yourself getting out of the pool.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I don't have a problem with it.

Well, yeah, that's because boys' swimsuits are different than girls' swimsuits, aren't they? Well, yes.

They are, as a matter of fact.

We went we went swimming over the weekend, just you and I in our hotel, and the little ladder, and then you're you're kind of hanging because the steps are so high. Your body's your hands are on the on the side of the ladder. Yeah. But your body's kind of sagging.

Yeah, you're kind of sitting back as you get your feet up high enough in that ladder. And then you gotta pull yourself up. Yeah.

It's so awkward. Sure. And then if you have to hoist yourself on the side of the pool, that's even worse. Why is that worse? Because you have to go, what? And then like hoist your body.

This is from the same girl who in the pool. You're a woman, but the same woman who in the pool does a whale breach trick. And then you're gonna you're gonna go, it's awkward. You're having a good time two seconds ago, pretending to be a whale, and now you're gonna have an issue. What are you talking about?

That's because I feel protected when I'm in the pool. Doing a whale breach is different because you launch yourself up and then he's out of the water. Yeah, but I'm on display. I get what you're saying.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You see. You're overthinking getting out of the pool. It's just uh it's just a walk. You know what I don't like is how slippery the ground gets when you get out of the pool. That's why they say no running. Well, I I have a hard time walking.

And then what like some pools, I don't know what spiky chewed up Legos they make that pool deck out of. That hurts. I know. don't I don't know what that is. That's to keep it not so slippery. Well, it's painful. And then I'm like, I don't even want to be on this.

That's because you have such delicate feet. I really do. Your feet are so delicate.

I have sensitive feet.

Because you're not barefoot enough. I'm barefoot the right amount.

You gotta nah, you gotta because you have shoes on your feet when you're not wearing shoes on your feet. What? Your souls are so calloused up. Mine? Yeah. Bro. It's like you have You make it sound like.

I've got You have...

Ogre feet. No, you don't have ogre feet. You don't have ogre feet.

I've been working really hard to make them soft. You don't have ogre feet. Thank you.

But you might have. You know how in Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, you had those spray on shoes. I feel like you're wearing that. You're like, you don't care. Like you like, I gravel, whatever. I got on my off-road souls. Yeah, because I'm tough. Yeah. And then I'm like, ooh, ah, yeah. ah, ah, ooh, ah. Every step hurts. Sweet little delicate feet. Yeah.

I'm like, come on, let me carry you.

Like I can't imagine doing that like walk on hot coals thing. I wouldn't make it. I'd be a mess. If there was ever any particular

time that I had to walk barefoot, like maybe we're barefoot together and we have to cross like mulch or rocks. Okay. I would do it and I would carry you. Oh no, you wouldn't. Yes, I would. I would say piggyback. Let's go. I would carry you. Oh no, you would. I would do my best to carry you. No.

Hey, but Wendy Peppercorn, am I right?

Okay, check this out. You know how every woman that you've ever talked to is like, what's the deal with our pockets? That's my side talk.

What's the deal with our pockets? Every woman I've ever talked to. I think uh I think I've probably had the pocket conversation with only you. Okay, but you ask But I understand it is an issue.

Ask any woman, and they'll say our pockets aren't big enough. Correct. Sometimes we don't have any. We especially love a dress with pockets. I totally get it. Okay, so I just saw this thing. Uh I actually saw it from a coworker. She had like reposted it on Instagram, and I was like, oh, we're gonna talk about this.

Wait till you hear about cargo pants.

Oh, yeah, that's a good look.

That every listen to me. I'm just telling you.

put your hammer in the side. If it has a hammer loop.

But I'm just saying, if you want pockets, some car heart.

Okay, ladies, listen up. Everyone's singing the lady listening. Carhart Carpenter pants. We're all wearing cargo pants from now on. Do it. All of us. Go crazy. That is the way that we get pockets in our pants. Yeah. Okay, listen to me. There was a an all-female London gang in the Hold on. What? Yeah, yeah, yeah. When was this? This was in they were active from 1870 to the 1950.

This is the coolest thing I've ever heard.

I know, it's awesome. They were called the 40 elephants or the 40 thieves. And they specialized in two names. Yeah. The 40 elephants. Or 40 thieves.

I like the 40 thieves better.

Uh they specialized in large-scale shoplifting and theft. So they would wear expensive fashionable clothing to blend into elite West End department stores. But they had specially tailored coats and dresses with deep hidden pockets. Amazing. So that they could tuck away jewelry, clothes, luxury furs.

This is why women lost pockets. I that's what I'm saying. You had pockets, and then you you took uh took advantage. No.

You did this to yourself. Dude, I think this is so awesome. I'm gonna do some real deep diving out.

really fascinating.

There was a woman named Mary Carr. Okay, two R. She was the first major quote unquote queen of the gang. And she's the one who organized the women into a disciplined network in the 1890s. This is fascinating. And then there was a woman known as Diamond Annie who took over leadership in the 1910s. Cool name. I know. Cool name. I know.

You gotta watch out for Diamond Annie.

And they operated in plain sight across London for years. Of course they did. years.

I like the 40 Thieves thing. Dude. What a cool story. This is a movie. This is like I know. This is gangs in New York. Like this is this is cool.

But yeah, these women are. Really cool. I kind of want to be a part of this game.

But it's also how you lost pockets. I know. That's what I'm saying. They had They had to take them away.

They were like, oh, I can't because of these women.

Yeah. We're gonna give them purses and we're gonna have them. Check them at the door. No more pockets. I like that they were tailoring them in. It sounds like they were doing that themselves. I think so. Oh, it's cool.

I think it's so cool too. I'm gonna totally deep dive into this today.

40 elephants or 40 thieves.

Apparently there was a there was there's a two any 25 Disney plus show called A Thousand Blows. Uh-huh. About that, about this? It's a television drama series about the gang. That's cool. I know.

Gotta learn more about that.

That's uh that's really there's not a lot of information because it's women. People don't like it about women.

I don't I want to know all about this.

I think it's awesome.

So I don't know what you're talking about because I really want to know about this.

That's okay. The way to get pockets, ladies. Well, I guess we're wearing cargo pants. Right every day, always. And then men will be like, why don't you ever wear dresses anymore? Can't have to wear cargo pants. Because we need the pockets. Put some pockets in our dresses, and then we'll wear dresses again. You hate that.

I think every skirt or dress you have has pockets. Not everyone. But a lot of them.

Lately, more often than not, they are putting pockets and dresses because they know that that's what women want. I know.

So put real pockets in your pants. Not even just like a like sewn shut pocket or just a it looks like a pocket. Exactly. What's the point?

Okay, time out. If I was in this gang, what would my cool name be? I don't know. We gotta work on that. I gotta have a cool name. Yeah.

Because Diamond Annie is a cool name. That's a cool name. Well, let me know as you learn more. Okay, I will.

A week or two ago, I posted a video of you with your six pencils. That's right. You have six pencils. I and I'll tell you perfectly lined up and sharpened.

Well, uh, four of them are still good. These two uh that are at the back are the ones I've used, and they're they're they're ready to be re-sharpened.

Let me see what your idea needs to be resharpened looks like. Bro, that's still compare it. Perfect.

Compare it to a brand new sharp one. And tell me there's not a difference. No, don't write with them. How am I gonna compare them? Oh, you're I'm gonna have three that need sharpened because you're gonna you're gonna use the sharp one and it's gonna be all dull.

I actually cannot stand writing with a pencil. Really? Really, really.

Why are you having an issue? I don't know. I love writing with a pencil. You do? Yes.

No. I mean, a sharp one is definitely nice. Okay, I'm gonna give you credit.

I you see, they need sharpened.

These ones that are not as sharp as this one, do they are worse to write with.

That's right. Now imagine uh you have one pencil. Like, come on. One pencil, and then you have to go down there and sharpen it, and then you write notes or you do your thing, and then you're down there again in the same day. This is why I have six.

Why don't you just use a mechanical pencil? Because I don't like that. Why?

I told we talked about this. There's only one mechanical pencil I like.

That's right. Okay.

So I found out put these in the right order. Hold on. This one has to go in the front because now it's been used a little bit. All right, things are back in order. Everything's okay. Go ahead. What's up?

What part of the spectrum? This is Josh.

He likes sharp number two pencils.

Listen to me.

Um Did you smell it while you had it? No. Smell the pencils. All right. Like the to the end. Smelly, smell it. Yeah, don't smell the eraser part. Just the does it still smell fresh? Like a fresh sharpened pencil.

I can't smell anything. Oh, okay. I need sharpened. Sorry. It needs sharpened.

Okay, listen to me. Because a sharp pencil smells good. See, and these erasers are a little bit used too, and these ones are all new.

That's also another way. One of your erasers? Um the old ones.

Not a new one. Plus, they're a little bit shorter because they've been sharpened a couple times. There's a lot going on in my pencils. What's the problem? What? What? Whoa. What do you want to know about my six pencils?

Well, I just found you a pencil, buddy. What'd you find? Well, one, I posted that video of you and your pencils, and we have a couple of teacher friends who are like, I love a good sharpened pencil. So you're in you're in good company with teachers. Um but then also I learned that Henry David Thoreau. Okay.

Who wrote Walden. Yeah. Which you love. Yeah. He has that book. Used pencils to write that story. Genius. His father owned a pencil making business. Wonderful. And Henry designed his own pencils before becoming a semi-recluse.

What is his pencil like? I need one. You kind of do. Let's look. What's a thoreau pencil? I don't know. What would you do? Write stuff. I would continue to use it as a pencil.

Uh okay, okay, okay. This is called if you go to Walden.org, it's the Walden Woods project. And they have I'm looking it up right now. Oh, you kind of need if this is for sale, you need this. You really do. I don't see the pencil.

You don't? If you go to Walden.org. I'm there now, yeah. Go to donate. Donate. Yeah. Never.

I don't know. I just look at it. That's where I can donate money. I'm gonna go to the shop. I don't know if it's for sale. You're going, okay. I don't think you can buy pencils.

I gotta find, I gotta find uh. What? I'm looking. No, don't worry about it. I'll figure it out. Okay.

I'm just saying there's a lot of people who share your love of pencils, and I am sorry to be the um pencil joy thief.

Full bot. These are nice. Did you find some for sale? No. But I found a picture of them. I know that's what I was looking at. It's a good stick. Oh, hold on.

Like that's you can get a journal and a pencil set for $18. I see it.

About the pencils. I like that.

Pencils are 100% for a stewardship council sustainable certified.

Yeah, they're gonna be the custom designed. forest. 100% recycled stock gift. Okay, we gotta get you this. How do we buy this?

I don't know. It's super cool. Journal and pencil set. Are you looking at the red ones? No. Oh. You should look at the red ones.

I'm looking at these ones.

Damn, those are nice pencils.

There's quotations on the pencils. Oh, cool. Our schoolhouse is the universe. In wildness is the preservation of the world. Let men tread gently through nature and simplify simplify.

I love all of that.

Absolutely what you're into.

for sure. I think That's awesome. Do you want the journal too? I might as well. Okay. I mean, I have a lot of journals.

15 bucks for the journal and pencil set. That's cool. What a cool gift. Write that down somewhere. Okay. That's a good one. What am I gonna write?

I don't know. Put it in the calendar or something.

That's a good Walden.org journal and pencil set. Got it. Cool. Very cool. I knew you'd like that. Yeah. Nerd.

I got a great pencil buddy. You know who knew a lot about pencils? Thoreau and Tielor. Hey, would you rather this or that?

Would you rather know exactly what your spouse wants for dinner or exactly what they want for their birthday? Oh, birthday. Yeah, same.

I I do dinner away often, and it's pretty easy. You're you're pretty easy to please with food. So what I mean is you're not picky. Nah. Nah, she likes to eat. Have food, we'll eat. She's pretty good with eating.

As long as it's not big chunks of meat.

Yeah, but even even that you can like cut smaller. Like if I make steak bites or something, you'll cut it down. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. But um, but when it comes to your birthday, it'd be nice to just be like, ah, yeah, easy. Yeah. Know it.

Same. Well, and you're not hard to shop for for your birthday, but you usually have so many things that you want that I have a hard time narrowing it down. And most of your stuff is very expensive.

So if I knew it's well, I look at my wish list and I go, like, that's not bad. No, I know, but like I I mean, there's some ridiculous stuff.

There's so it's just so much on the list that I got.

There's everything from like camp kitchen stuff to truck parts to uh fishing gear to books.

Oh, I'd be knowing what's on list. I be knowing. All righty. That's what the kids say. Uh-huh. I'd be knowing. Get with it. You're so on hip. Stop trying to bring down my cool factor.

Uh they don't call it a cool factor anymore. They call it aura. Oh. And so you just took a hit. So maybe keep up.

Dang it. I've been trying so hard to be cool. Yeah. I'll never get that I'll never get there. That was pretty dog water, no cap. So dog water. I haven't heard that one.

Oh, that's old. Oh, yeah. That one's not even around too much right now, but you know.

No cap isn't around either. Oh, I think it is. Is it? Oh, yeah. Dog water, no cap. I love that.

That's what you want for your birthday. Hip slang book.

Absolutely I do. I heard the other day there was a young woman who was helping me at a store, and she goes, okay, perf. And I went, perf? I remember perf.

Right, because then you taught her about preach. And she was like, I'm using that. And I said, I'm using perf. Right.

Because my daughter hates it when I am cool.

So again, she doesn't like it when your aura is higher than hers.

Well, get used to it, sweetie pie.

No one says that. Would you rather this or that?

If you're struggling at work most days and you're like, oh, I hate being at work. I hate being here. Let me introduce you to what Gen Z workers are calling microjoys. Okay. And these are small moments that make the workday more enjoyable, productive, and sustainable.

Micro joys.

These microjoys, they're supposed to help them perform better at work. Okay. Uh uh most of them say they intentionally build micro joy breaks into their work day. And here's what the micro joys are. And we were kind of talking about this yesterday. You said that you just ate lunch at your desk yesterday.

Yeah. You didn't go outside. You were just kind of busy working.

So the micro joy breaks could be something as simple as stepping outside for fresh air, taking a walk, chatting with cool co-workers. Hey, what up, cool guy? Wanna have a chit chat?

I'm looking for a micro joy. I'm gonna try that today. I'm trying to feel a little better about my work environment. You want to have a chit-chat, cool guy?

Let's go tell our boss that. Let's go down there right now.

Hey, cool guy. Ready to have a chit-chat? Jade. I need a little smile on my face.

We're looking for a cool co-worker. You know what? Yeah.

I'm the coolest one, he'll say. And I'm like, no, man. I'm looking for something. I'm looking for a cool cat. I hate that guy. You do? Yeah, I do. Why don't you like him? He's so cool to talk about it. He's annoying. Okay. Hey, meet me at the water cooler for some cool cat talking. We're gonna chat it up.

Time out. Let's send out an email. Yeah. To the all of the coworkers and say, hey, listen, we're looking for some micro joys. If you want to participate, me to set the water cooler. Five minutes. And let's see who shows up. No one.

It's gonna be you and me standing there. And everybody else is like, I don't have time for this. I got work to do. I don't have time to be part of your micro joy. Come on, man. That's what they'll say.

I really do want to do it.

I'm actually doing work. Hey, cool cats. Okay. I'm gonna meet you at the water cooler because that's where cool people gather is at the water cooler.

Stop. I hate him. I'd be cool cat. Listen, here's other micro joys. Enjoying a snack or a favorite beverage. Yeah. Making the workday better. Here's my cool diagonal.

Making the work day better is part of our slogan, by the way. I know. Better music for better work day. Making the workday better. We do that. We're a microjoy. Oh, come on now.

Oh, you guys.

Thanks for listening at work. Part of your micro joy. That's our new slogan. Yeah. Bringing these two cool cats along to work. On your radio. Okay. Smart speaker. On demand. Everywhere you can podcast.

Okay, if there's anybody in the building here at River Bend that's listening right now, as soon as this break is over, I'm headed to the water cooler. That's where the cool cats hang out. Meet me there.

How long are you gonna stand there by yourself before you come back? Uh a minute or two. You got two minutes. You better show up quick. Or this cool cat's heading back to town. What?

Okay. Okay, meet me at the water cooler. If you're listening, this will be a test to see who is actually listening. In the building. In the building. I don't think anybody listens here in the building. You're gonna be standing there by your I know. You have Two minutes. That's usually how it goes.

All right. Well, we'll wrap up the show. We'll put the water cooler test in action, and we will see you tomorrow on Friday. Let's go.

Yep, Pip. Yep. Let's go. Yeah. Have a good Thursday. Yeah.

We'll talk to you tomorrow. you tomorrow. You grew up like a rock and roll hand. Have a good Thursday. Rock and roll. All right. See you later. Bye.
