What is The 405 Coffee Break with O.K. Solberg?

Greetings 405 listener!

The 405 airs over KMMR Radio Station. At 5 Minutes past 4 PM. Normally each M-F week day of the year. Here on the website we'll get it posted for you within a few hours, normally.

Your neighbor and website maintainer,
D.J. Rasmussen

OK Solberg:

I wanna again welcome you to the four zero five Coffee Break, guys. A new week. Get your cup of coffee, glass iced tea, or bottle of water. Let's take a peek at what's happening out there. Spring wheat, $6.24 a bushel, 550 pound steer calf, $3.94 a pound, a butcher hog in Omaha will fetch you 63ยข a pound, and a 100 pound fat lamb in Billings at $2.54.

OK Solberg:

But guys, there's more, much more. Here I sit all brokenhearted, tried to write but never started. I've said all there is to say, there's nothing more to write today. I just wrote that for you because I had nothing special to say on this episode. But you have to understand that is not my true feeling.

OK Solberg:

I love the fact of not having an agenda. I love the uncluttered mind. I love the opportunity to sit down at my keyboard and just say, let's see what comes out today. Sometimes, but not too often, I get done and I say, I didn't even know I knew that. See, writing with an audience's mind in mind is a great thing.

OK Solberg:

For you see, I believe and shall never be swayed to believe otherwise that to be able to write is like preparing a gift for a friend. What is the goal and objective when you get a gift for a friend, Think about it. You want that friend to be happy, to enjoy what you created, and hopefully, you'll put a smile on their faces. So see, I can write. You can write.

OK Solberg:

Everyone can write. But without an audience, what's the purpose? I love to know nothing and see what comes out. So what do we know? Well, let's see.

OK Solberg:

We know it's Monday. What happens on Monday? Well, one thing that happens on Monday is Jay goes out to Joe and Marion's house. Do you think they're listening? Well, I don't know for sure, but I think they might be.

OK Solberg:

Why would they listen? That's another question. Well, maybe they're curious. Maybe they wonder what will it be today. Maybe it puts a smile on their faces.

OK Solberg:

So lesson number two, always think of your audience when preparing a piece. What would that audience enjoy? Well, I'll tell you one thing they would enjoy is to hear something that happened right here in Phillips County decades ago. See, guys, for whatever reason, hearing about the past and being familiar with the subject matter brings a certain amount of enjoyment. I don't know.

OK Solberg:

It just does. Would Joe like to hear about LC Sugar Shack? Would Jay like to hear when the old Armory was built? Hey, would both of them enjoy hearing about a car from the 1960's? Like, I bet they know that the Chevy Impala was the best selling car in The United States Of America in the 1960's, bar none.

OK Solberg:

Oh, PS, side note here, the Chevrolet 327 was offered in Impalas, and they were offered in Impellas from 1962 through 1969. So listen to this. It's reasonable to estimate that from 1962 all the way through 1969, about 1,880,000 327s were offered in the Chevy Impala. Holy smokes. Nearly 2,000,000, I hope, to shout and call the doctor.

OK Solberg:

Did you know that a three twenty seven is approximately 28 inches from front to back? Take your tape measure, find it out. 28 inches. So if you lined up all the 327s ever put into just the Chevy Impalais, that row of engines would cover 880 miles. A row of 327s from Joe Pena's house, past Joe's In N Out, down central, turn east at the First State Bank, member FDIC, and go down the frontage road, pass Jay's house, and on to Highway 2, every 327 tied up next to the one next to it.

OK Solberg:

So it goes to Glasgow, then Wolf Point, down to Circle and Glendale. Don't forget, we go through Dickinson and Bismarck, North Dakota, straight through to Fargo, into Fergus Falls, Minnesota, through the Twin Cities, and off to Mankato, Minnesota. That's a long line of 327's. And remember, that's just the ones installed in the Impales. Remember also that the three twenty seven was offered in the Corvette, the Chevelle, offered in the Malibu, and also the El Camino.

OK Solberg:

So a line of 327's from Joe's house to Mankato, Minnesota. And when we get them all lined up, we might as well visit Charles Ingalls in Walnut Grove near Mankato, Minnesota. Oh, guys, it's fun to have fun, and Joe and Jay know lots about cars. But I'm betting it wasn't until today that they realized that many 327's were placed inside the Impales. Let me close with a bible verse, Numbers 35-5.

OK Solberg:

And you shall measure outside the city on the east side 2,000 cubits, and on the south side 2,000 cubits, and on the west side 2,000 cubits, on the north side 2,000 cubits, the city being in the middle. This shall belong to them as pasture land for their cities. Numbers 35-5. So even in the bible, they measured, and a cubit is about one and three quarters foot long, so it equates to a pasture of about 1,100 acres, not to be confused with a line of 327 engines that cover 880 miles. Joe's house to Mankato, Minnesota.

OK Solberg:

For having nothing to say, I think I said a lot, and I hope it was worth your while. So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
