A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam
“But we ask you, brothers and sisters, to recognize those who diligently labor among you and are in leadership over you in the Lord, and give you instruction, and that you regard them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another. We urge you, brothers and sisters, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek what is good for one another and for all people. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:12-18 NASB2020
During this week of Thanksgiving, I’d like to take a look at the word thanksgiving and ask the question; do we truly live a life filled with thanksgiving in our hearts?
Over 130 times the word thanks or thankfulness is used in the Bible. That is a lot of Thankfulness. But it’s not enough. Look what a lack of thanksgiving brought the people of Israel. They time and time again remove themselves from God’s favor because they forget about His favor and they do evil in the sight of God, they are not grateful and God says ok. The people of Israel are taken captive, they are conquered they are dispersed and they are massacred. Through Christ we have been grafted into the ancestry of Christ. We have done the same thing. We have gotten comfortable, been ungrateful, denied Him, been persecuted and massacred as well. (Yes some Judeo/Christian massacres have been martyrdoms) but by and large our collective ungratefulness and sin catches up with us. All God asks of us is to do is what he asked of Solomon in 2 Chronicles:
“If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:13-14
We need to turn to Him, confess our sins, give thanks for his incredible gifts. Especially the gift of salvation. Only through constant prayer, supplication, thankfulness and reverence for our God, can we have revival.
Therefore, let us give thanks for his mighty provisions, let us especially give thanks for Christ and His death resurrection and ascension. Let us turn our eyes and our hearts towards Him so that we can be renewed, restored and revived in Jesus name.
Lord, I thank you for you incredible provisions. Thank you for the gift of grace that gives us eternal life with you. Help us to turn to you always with a grateful heart. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen…
Shalom Blessings and Press In and Press On!
