What is Mystery Maniacs?

Mystery Maniacs Podcast is a comedy recap podcast dedicated to British Mystery Television. Formerly, Midsomer Maniacs podcast.

Sarah:

Hey, maniacs.

Mark:

Hey, mystery maniacs. It's another mini episode.

Sarah:

Yes. Season twelve episode five of Brokenwood Mysteries, Death Has Four Strings.

Mark:

One, two, three, four. We were right. It was about macrame.

Sarah:

No. It's about ukuleles.

Mark:

It's about ukuleles. I learned fun fact today.

Sarah:

What's that?

Mark:

That ukulele is Hawaiian for jumping flea.

Sarah:

The way ukuleles are passed around and the number of ukuleles in this episode is kind of like fleas. Well It may be the most ukuleles I've ever seen in a single show.

Mark:

What it is is your fingers moving across the ukulele strings is like a jumping flea.

Sarah:

I see. I like my angle better.

Mark:

I completely understand that.

Sarah:

It is a

Mark:

It is a lot of ukuleles.

Sarah:

It is a fantastic episode.

Mark:

It is

Sarah:

super fun.

Mark:

I love this episode.

Sarah:

And we have many ways to watch it like a maniac. This is spoiler free. We're not gonna

Mark:

ruin it.

Sarah:

Nope. The intention is that you listen to this and then you go and watch the episode or rewatch the episode and watch it like a maniac.

Mark:

Yes.

Sarah:

Like a ukulele maniac.

Mark:

Like a ukulele maniac.

Sarah:

Are you ready to get to How to Watch Like a Maniac? Yes. We have seven things. Seven? Yes.

Sarah:

It's that good of an episode.

Mark:

It is that good of an episode.

Sarah:

We'll put these in the show notes so you don't have to write them down. Here we go. Yep. Number one, what's up with Laszlo's chocolate fountain?

Mark:

Oh, Laszlo has Woah. Woo doggy.

Sarah:

Is he goth or emo?

Mark:

I think he's emo. And there are some some Laszlo songs, his music video appears in the in the movie. I'm not I'm

Sarah:

not In the episode?

Mark:

In the episode. I'm not breaking it down for you. And Tim Baum wrote that music

Sarah:

Mhmm.

Mark:

Is chef's kiss.

Sarah:

Tim Baum writes two songs

Mark:

for this Yes. He does.

Sarah:

So what's up with Laszlo's chocolate fountain?

Mark:

And that's not a euphemism. No.

Sarah:

Number two, where does Annabella play?

Mark:

Yeah. I noticed this and was

Sarah:

like, rewind that. What was that? Rewind. Wait a minute. Rewind that one more time.

Sarah:

Number three, what holds Gina's music?

Mark:

It's it's definitely not the thing you think it is.

Sarah:

Because Gina is one of the ukulele players. She

Mark:

is with an original song.

Sarah:

Yes. So that's number three, what holds Gina's music? Number four, why doesn't Gina listen to our podcast?

Mark:

I wondered out loud immediately.

Sarah:

That's number four. Number five, what has hot women and a little library?

Mark:

Woo doggy.

Sarah:

It's quite the combo.

Mark:

Yes, it is. Hot women and a little library.

Sarah:

That's number five. Number six, what does the moving company like to do? Oh, this

Mark:

this is a Maniac drop. Yes. Like, it's an Easter egg drop. It's meant for people like us.

Sarah:

Yes.

Mark:

It is clearly there.

Sarah:

It's like bonus point level. Like But it's obvious.

Mark:

Like, should say at the bottom, high mania. Yes.

Sarah:

Just on the screen, it should just overlay down at the bottom. High Maniacs. Yep. Did you did you see that, Maniacs? That was for you.

Sarah:

Yep. So that was number six. What does the moving company like to do? And number seven, is this the best fight scene ever or what?

Mark:

It is whoo.

Sarah:

We watched it three times.

Mark:

We watched it three times. We showed it to the children.

Sarah:

I got a kid out of bed and said, you have to come see this.

Mark:

I I'm gonna say this. This is Chalmers' best episode ever. Oh.

Sarah:

I have to think about that. I I the Maniacs, we'll see if you agree.

Mark:

The fight scene, because Chalmers is in it. We can tell you that.

Sarah:

Mhmm.

Mark:

Okay? The friends scene

Sarah:

Mhmm.

Mark:

I just think he is on point in this episode.

Sarah:

So what's up with Laszlo's chocolate fountain? Where does Annabella play? Yes. What holds Gina's music? Why doesn't Gina listen to our podcast?

Mark:

Hello, Gina.

Sarah:

What has Hot Women and A Little Library? What does The Moving Company like to do? And is this the best fight scene ever or what?

Mark:

It definitely is the best fight scene of the show.

Sarah:

Of this of Brokenwood?

Mark:

Yes. Of Brokenwood.

Sarah:

I I might agree with that.

Mark:

I I it's it's action, everybody. Yeah. And it's oh, it's just fantastic.

Sarah:

I cannot wait to cover this episode in full. There is so much.

Mark:

There is so much. Laszlo's residence alone will take us half an hour.

Sarah:

His music video? Just his song lyrics.

Mark:

We had

Sarah:

to Oh my god.

Mark:

We had to stop and say, is that a penis?

Sarah:

To be fair, you wondered that. I didn't wonder that. You wondered that.

Mark:

I double checked. It was not a penis, but boy, it was in the right place.

Sarah:

It's a really fun episode.

Mark:

It is an absolute blast of an episode, and we can't wait

Sarah:

To talk about it.

Mark:

To talk about

Sarah:

With you, Maniacs. Yes. Next week, we have season twelve, episode six, Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, which Tracy Gray has told us is Trudy's best episode of the season. Yep. I think it's about baseball.

Sarah:

I'm guessing it's a baseball it's like a League of Their

Mark:

Own League there's no crying in Brokenwood.

Sarah:

That's what I'm guessing. What do you think it's about?

Mark:

I think I think it's about Trudes and her mom because they've been laying

Sarah:

Wait a minute. Maybe the stolen goods from last episode.

Mark:

Diamonds. Diamonds. Diamonds. Diamonds. Oh, maybe.

Sarah:

Maybe. We'll see. Maybe. We'll have to wait till next week when that episode comes out. Yes.

Sarah:

Until then, bye, Maniacs.
