Do you like vegetables? If you do, you can plant a small garden in your house. The vegetables can grow on your windowsill. You can watch them grow.
Some vegetables that can grow in your house are: tomatoes, lettuce, peppers and radishes.
Listen to my instructions on how to plant a window garden.
What you need:
small pots or boxes
a marker
soil
seeds
craft sticks
a small shovel or scoop
a spray bottle filled with water
a calendar
Write your name on your plant pot or box. Then you know which plant is your plant and which one is your brother or sister’s.
Put some soil in your pot. Fill your pot almost to the top.
Open your seed packets. Look at the seeds. Some seeds are really big and some are super small.
Put 2 or 3 seeds in each pot. Put a little soil on the seeds – like when your mom or dad puts a blanket on you when you go to sleep.
Take one craft stick. Write the name of the vegetable on the stick. You can draw a picture, too.
Seeds need water. Give your seeds water with the spray bottle.
Seeds also need light. Put your pots on the windowsill.
Give your seeds a little water every day. Write a tick mark on the calendar every time you give your seeds water.
Watch your seeds grow. Now you have plants. Draw a picture of your vegetable on the calendar on the day you can eat it. Which vegetable can you eat first?
When you can eat all of your vegetables, what can you make? Remember, you have lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and radishes. You can make a salad!
Your homework: Draw a picture of your window garden and write three sentences.
Show your picture to your VivaLing coach or to your mom or dad.
