Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
We are the constant recipients of God’s mercies, and yet how little
gratitude we express, how little we praise Him for what He has done
for us. – Steps to Christ, pg. 103
My alarm clock reverberated and shook my whole nightstand,
awakening me out of my deep slumber. Rolling over, I smacked
the disruptive object with my fist until it stopped chirping. Utterly
exhausted, I did not need a reminder that another day was dawning.
I mulled over the plan for the day, fishing for a legitimate
reason to get out of bed. My thoughts whirled around like a circus until
I remembered the profound reality: today was my driving test! Flinging
off the sheets, I leaped out of bed. Scampering around the room, I
gathered everything together like I had only five minutes to pack for a
month-long vacation.
“Mom, let’s go!” I yelled, as I ran down the hall.
Flying by the kitchen, I managed to wolf down breakfast just
before hopping into the car.
My mom accelerated to an electrifying speed as she entered
the freeway onramp. Putting the pedal to the metal, we zipped by
every other car on the road.
It was all smiles and boisterous behavior until beams of blue
and red lights streamed in the rearview mirror. It’s funny how red,
white, and blue stands for freedom until it is flashing behind you.
“Oh, no!” I gasped.
My mom perceived it too, and before long we were pulled over
to the side of the road. The joyride had ended: we were toast.
Often, I find myself speeding through life, focusing too much
on the destination without taking any time to enjoy the journey. And,
often in my haste, I forget to appreciate my Creator and all that He has
done for me. I want to show my gratitude for God every day and thank
Him for being with me every step of the way.
