Hero Files

Apparently, Heroes don't wake up confident. In this episode of Hero Files, we talk about the real secret behind confidence: hard work.

What is Hero Files?

Hero Files is a kids podcast where sisters Curie & Yeva explore fictional characters and ask one big question: what really makes a hero?
Through stories, discussion, and imagination, each episode turns reading into thoughtful conversation.

Hello everyone.

Today we will be learning lesson
two about hard work and confidence.

So before we start, quick question, has
anyone received their magical power yet?

Glowing sword, mysterious
letter to a magical school,

um, a sudden talent in a sport?

Yeah, me neither.

So unfortunately we have
to talk about hard work.

And confidence in movies.

Hard work looks like 30 seconds
of training, and then suddenly

they're amazing and can do anything.

But in real life it looks like.

Four years, not maybe four years, if
you're like exceptionally talented,

maybe less than that, but like still
not three hours, like a long time.

A very, very stressful work and
only you know if like you worked

hard enough to deserve that
prize that you got for your work.

Everyone else sees the outcome
of how hard you worked and.

If you did work hard, then you
know you deserved it, so you

should be proud of yourself.

Hermione Granger.

Yeah, everything.

Everyone thinks that her Monte
Granger is just naturally smart.

Well, she is naturally smart,
but she studies constantly.

She, but she studies constantly reads
head and practices, spells over and

over again and that's how she's so good.

Yeah.

She like prepares and practices
with for work before she.

Before, before she like gets
a good grade on her test.

So even if she is talented, which she
is, but you still need to work hard

because as my mom always told me,
um, 70% of your success is hard work.

Only 30% is talent.

Well, I mean, if you only have 10%
talent, then I guess you have nine.

You have to do 90% hard work to win.

But if you're like very, very talented,
like Hermione Granger, ow, what you doing?

What you do?

This part.

If you're like Hermione Granger
and you have like 50% talent, then

you don't have to work that hard.

But she also works really hard, so
she's like 120%, which is why she

always excels at whatever she does.

And she's also confident when
she practices her spells in.

Does test because she knows that
she was prepared enough to do it.

So if you are not prepared, then
you're not gonna be confident.

But if you are prepared, you are gonna
be confident and you know you are.

Um, Anne of Greenn Gables,
Ann wasn't born academically

excellent, but Well, I'm.

I mean, like she and Harmani
were both still born academically

excellent, but they still tried hard
and she used her competitive nature

to compete with Gilbert Blythe.

Who is Gilbert?

This guy and the story who she loves?

Yeah, eventually.

And then she studied to beat Gilbert
in the test and her confidence grew

because she worked and prepared so well.

I guess that means that your
confidence can also grow.

I mean like fake it till you make.

What does that mean?

It means if you don't have confidence,
you pretend that you have confidence

until you have actually have a confidence.

Yeah.

Until you have real confidence.

Oh.

So have you ever felt confident
for a test you studied before?

No.

For a test that you
studied the night before.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So have you ever felt like
bad and sad and anxious before

a test you didn't study for?

Definitely.

Yeah.

So that's not like really,
well, I mean, it's your fault

because you didn't study for it.

It's preparation.

Like I said, if you don't prepare for it,
then like if you don't work hard for it,

then you won't have enough confidence to.

Think and know that
you'll be able to do it.

Um, so if you only do things and if you
only do things that you're already good

at, you'll never grow, which is why you
have to go and experience other things.

Um, and then you can ask
yourself these three questions.

Um, number one is something
I want to be confident at.

What's something that you
wanna be confident at?

Maybe doing the speech that's coming up
in like March 11th or 12th that we have

to perform in front of the third grade.

Yeah.

So figure out something that you want to
be confident on and fake the confidence

until you have real confidence.

And then the second question
is the most uncomfortable work

that you've been avoiding.

Finding a costume because I don't,
because I think the finding the

costume for my character is really hard
because she's like in the 18 hundreds.

Yeah.

So find the most uncomfortable thing
that like you don't ever want to do.

Like maybe if you have piano and
you don't wanna study for, you don't

have one to like practice because
you fall asleep every time you play.

Or maybe you just.

You just don't want to.

Yeah.

So do it first and then like, so you get
that thing off your mind and you have more

confidence because you know you can do it.

And then the third question is
like, the easiest thing, actually.

It's just one small action
that you can do this week.

Like finishing a book?

Yeah.

Like, um, finishing your
goal or like the purpose.

Doing well on the test.

Mm-hmm.

Something like that.

And I guess the moral of the story is
that hard work leads to confidence and

that you need both to succeed in life.

And that's all.

Bye bye.

Thank you.
