It is 20 hours past midnight on this fine autumnal New Muses Monday night, and thus it is time to get the closeups on the best new biz out over the weekend for the full two hours this evening, breezed with a sunny crisp disposition as October 25, 2021. This is Danno of course, back at it once again to start another week, bossing the mic but not around from studio 2, GFN HQ in downtown Gwangju, how do you do? As you may remember our newest addition to the Drop Team is back for her Popcast Monday showcase, which all starts in our 2nd hour with Aline Verduyn. Here in our first hour, the new muses are indeed ready for their closeups, with new joints out over the weekend from La Luz, Lana del Rey, Blood Orange, and many other very worthy singles. However, before we get to any of that, it’s time to rock out with our TIGHT feature, and for so many reasons today, we’re just gonna say we’re glad to start. THIS is The Drop.
Cream – I’m So Glad
The Drop commences things on this New Muses Monday on a beautiful fall day & evening here in Gwangju. Rocking all the new tunes that we can fit into a full two hours tonight, of course, and Aline Verduyn shall return in parts 3 & 4 for our Popcast feature to go over all the big tunes you may have slept on.
For right now though, we opened with our TIGHT (or) feature to begin everything tonight with a bit of history, and after the internet being out nationwide for an hour or two today we can only say that with the sunny day and the return of the wifi, we could only play Cream’s I’m So Glad to start things right and truthfully.
However, that’s not the only reason we played the original rock supergroup to start, as yesterday and today were both important dates in the band’s genesis. We’ll start with today as this is the more important one, as it was on this date Jack Bruce, the bassist of the band and co-founder along with Eric Clapton & Ginger Baker, passed away at the age of 71.
It is rumored that drummer Ginger Baker & Bruce, who always had a terribly contentious relationship through the years that verged on hate, never buried the hatchet before Bruce passed even though a phone call was made.
At any rate, all three members of the group are some of the top players on their instruments of all time, and they truly left a massive mark on popular music. So, forgiven or not, Jack Bruce, rest in power supreme.
Now to focus on the positive, it was yesterday on this date in 2005 that the band for the first time since their final live shows went on tour. Cream had played a stint of four shows in London at the Royal Albert Hall, the site of their final shows, back in May of 2005. And yesterday that same year Clapton, Bruce, and Baker opened a three night set at New York’s Madison Square Garden yesterday October 24, 2005.
So, with the history brushed aside, let’s get to the new cuts for this week, and we have a bit of a rarity tonight with a lot of quick hitters, so hopefully we can get through both blocks of 3 each coming up here on the air. Up next we have La Luz ready to take their swings then we have a new jam from TOPS to be followed by some new old from Beirut, all of which we shall explain ourselves after they dance around the atmosphere. THIS is The Drop on your new Muses Monday night.
__________
Back on The Drop after our first triforce of the night on this very fine New Muses Monday night. Danno here as I am always on GFN between 8 & 10, and it is Monday so that always means new music galore in store, and lately that also means the lovely & talented Aline Verduyn will return to studio 2 this evening for our semi-revamped Popcast feature. For now through, we go to the recap, that was...
La Luz – I Won’t Hesitate (…out Friday is the debut LP from the LA-based all female quartet, which is simply self-titled and produced by Jazz Is Dead maestro Adrian Younge. The band recently announced a 34-date world tour with North American shows in 2021 and will follow that with UK & European dates following next year, in April and May 2022.)
TOPS – Waiting (…the band lead by Jane Penny and based out of Montreal is out with this, their 2nd single of the year after the release of Party Again in July. Penny says of the track that it’s about nostalgia, but during the pandemic that cut both ways and her own memories started to seep into the present due to their vivid nature.)
Beirut – Fisher Island Sound (…the solo project of Zach Condon is out with this to announce the release of a new compilation of rarities, b-sides, and unreleased Eps called Artifacts. The album will drop in full on January 28 next year.)
Now, as mentioned we have another trio of tunes to rock prior to the end of part 1 this evening, and Yot Club are up next with a tune called Alive (note spelling), and then we have Hand Habits & Perfume Genius teaming up on a cut called Just To Hear You. To finish, we have a new joint from Hippo Campus called Boys, and that’s gonna be the end of the quarter now & forever. THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday.
Yot Club – Alive
Hand Habits feat Perfume Genius – Just To Hear You
Hippo Campus – Boys

II
The Drop has cooking with gas but throttling the valve a good bit for part 2 of our New Muses Monday night. What’s the haps Drop Gangsters, Danno here doing the usual unusual as far as the standard radio fare here on the peninsula, and since it is Monday we are rockin’ all the new stuff just out in both hours tonight, with Aline joining us for her 2nd Popcast foray after making her rookie debut for Team Drop last week. Let’s get to what we just threw on the griddle...
Wet feat Blood Orange – Bound (…Just out over the weekend rnb trio Wet have returned with their new album Letter Blue. For the past few months, Wet have shared a bunch of that album’s tracks as singles: “On Your Side,” “Larabar,” “Clementine,” “Far Cry.” And while Letter Blue includes songwriting contributions from peers like Toro Y Moi and Buddy Ross, there’s only one featured guest on the whole album. That guest is Blood Orange mastermind Dev Hynes, who co-wrote the song “Bound” with Wet leader Kelly Zutrau, and while he doesn’t sing on the track, Hynes did all the instruments on this single and produced it top-to-bottom.)
Bonobo feat Jamila Woods - Tides (…interesting team-up here that really fits together quite well. The UK-bred LA-based producer is out with his latest album Fragments on January 14, and of course Jamila Woods is not only one of the most on-the-rise vocalists out there, but she’s also a community organizer back in her hometown of Chicago.)

So, let’s continue with the chill which is both in & on the air at present, and up next we have the latest from Lana del Rey to be followed by GENERA8TION and Baird, all of which we shall duly explain after the fun part. THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday evening.
___________
Back on The Drop tonight and into the final airbreak of the first 57 this evening, how’s it going, Drop Gangsters (KOR)? Danno here ready to welcome Aline Verduyn for her sophomore Popcast sesh after the big debut last week, and we have tons of new stuff to talk about after 9 tonight. However, before all that, allow us to explain our & themselves on the recent selections…
Lana del Rey – If You Lie Down With Me (…in undoubtedly the big release of the weekend, the NYC pop star is out with her 2nd album of the year in Blue Banisters as of Friday. A bit of a departure for del Rey, as it’s a rather stripped affair without the usual effects & accompaniments of previous works.)
GENER8ION feat 070 Shake – Neo Surf (…for those unfamiliar, which I certainly was as well prior to hearing this & looking in a bit more. GENER8ION is a collaborative & multidisciplinary project out of France put together by the composer Surkin and film director Romain Gavras. This is the first single to the album which will drop sometime in 2022.)
Baird – Easy On Them Turns (…Breaking out in the LA scene following his contributions to BROCKHAMPTON's latest album, ROADRUNNER, as well as collaborations with Dominike Fike, Vegyn, and more, Baltimore-raised, LA-based artist Baird has shared 'Easy On Them Turns', his first single since his 2020 mixtape BIRDSONGS, Vol. 2. Nothing announced as far as a wider release, so this’ll be a standalone for now.)

Now, we’re getting pretty close to halftime but we still got time to rock a bit more and we’ll let this new one from Animal Collective called Prester John breathe & ease us into part 3 & the popcast but not before we let you know that the band has announced their first album in 5 years called Time Skiffs, which will drop Feb 4 so very exciting news to end the first half. THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday and it’s halftime.

Gossip/Drama/Beef
1. Stromae - santé
Stromae, the Belgian artist born Paul Van Haver, has returned with a new single after his last album 8 yrs ago. It’s called “Santé,” dedicated to the daily workers.
It arrives with a new music video directed by Jaroslav Moravc and Luc Van Haver. The video shows people dancing via schematic tutorials in a dreamlike party atmosphere. “Let’s have a toast for the conquerors of the worst work hours,” the song’s lyrics direct. “For the new parents lulled to sleep by cries. For the insomniacs by trade.”
He will be on tour next summer. Stromae is an artist that hates performing!

2. Eric nam - i dont know you anymore
If there was one word Eric Nam would use to describe his new album, it would be “journey”. “I feel like we’re all on a journey, figuring out who we are, what we are, what we love, who we love, and how we live life,” Eric told NME. “The [album’s] songs, the lyrical content – it touches on every aspect of relationships. I think it also touches on various moments in life that we all experience simply as humans, because we’re all human, and we all have the same shared experiences.”
His 2nd english album is called “There and Back Again”, out early 2022.

Fresh Bread/New Releases:

1. The lumineers – Big Shot
Rel: oct

The Lumineers have announced the release of their second single “Big Shot,” featured on their eagerly awaited new album, Brightside. The track is joined by an official music video.
“We are all big shots in our own story,” says The Lumineers singer-guitarist and co- founder Wesley Schultz, “and, now, we’ve all been humbled over the last 18 months. The video was inspired by the 90s, and the storytelling music videos we grew up watching on MTV.”
Brightside arrives Friday, January 14, 2022,

2. James Morrison – who's gonna love me now
Rel: oct 14

James Morrison will release his greatest hits in a reworked new collection on 11th February 2022
Morrison commented, “It’s been fifteen years since I started releasing music, and many of my songs over time have taken on a new life of their own: new emotions, new meanings and new feels both from the way I perform them and in the way my band has played them. I’ve also become a better singer and inhabit the songs in a different way now.
The collection features his new single ‘Who’s Gonna Love Me Now’, which marries rugged soul and Motown vibes with thumping beats.

3. Bryan Adams – so happy it hurts
rel: oct 11
His 15th album – so happy it hurts - will drop in March 2022. the title track just dropped 2 weeks ago.
“The pandemic and lockdown really brought home the truth that spontaneity can be taken away," he said in a press release. "Suddenly all touring stopped, no one could jump in the car and go. The title song ‘So Happy It Hurts’ is about freedom, autonomy, spontaneity and the thrill of the open road.

4. Santana & Chris Stapleton – Joy
rel oct 15
Carlos Santana has tapped Chris Stapleton for a new song, “Joy,” from the guitarist’s upcoming album, Blessings and Miracles, out October 15th.
“Joy,” as its title suggests, is a celebratory, uplifting track, though that euphoria is couched in a heavy, yearning groove that blends elements of reggae, blues, gospel, and country.
There is, of course, a characteristically sublime solo from Santana, while Stapleton adds some guitar and handles the vocals.
In a statement, Santana said, “I was very intrigued to work with Chris.
We talked on the phone about the Covid situation and how there’s so much fear in the world, and I said, ‘We need to create music as a healing force. We must bring hope and courage and disinfect twisted minds infected with darkness.’ That gave him the ammunition to write such incredible words.

5. Tiesto (feat Lucas & Steve) – Oohla Oohla
rel oct 14

Today Tiësto has released a brand new collection in the Together Again EP. The five new records have all released the same day, whilst these tracks are labelled as an EP each record has been released as a single, likely due to promotional benefits. Lucas & Steve join Tiësto on ‘Oohla Oohla’, a slap house-esque record with a catchy vocal.
It’s great to see more music from Tiësto, outside of his numerous remixes as of late. The diversification throughout the EP is sure to result in festival plays as well as radio support throughout the more commerical world of dance music.

PART IV
6. Steve Aoki - end of the world
rel: oct 15
2x-Grammy-nominated artist Steve Aoki and Multi-Platinum Tokyo-based group End of the World released the brand new self-titled song “End of the World”today. Beautifully synchronizing the individual styles of both artists, the single sees End of the World lead singer Fukase’s whispery falsetto smoothly glide over Aoki’s signature electronic groove. The track pulses with positive energy from start to finish, leading with a universal message about tapping into the present.

7. Demi Lovato - Unforgettable (Tommy’s Song)
rel: oct 9

Demi Lovato is remembering their late friend Thomas "Tommy" Trussell III in their newly released single, "Unforgettable (Tommy's Song)." 8. Westlife - Starlight
Rel: oct 15
