What is Progress and Perfection?

Recovery themed, Christian flavored daily reflections for those struggling, recovering, or seeking understanding.

And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭17

Take comfort in knowing that Christ is and was and will be forever. All things are held together by and through him.

Grand statements that I would do well to not discount.

In fact, though, the grander the proclamation, the easier it is to shrug off. Non-consideration is the dismal afterglow of my self-centered human nature.

Addiction amplified this tendency and led me (willingly) far away from any meaningful thoughts of God.

In recovery, it is more often than not emphasized to zoom in to very specific moments and choices directly in front of us.

And this is good.

What’s the next right thing? How can I do the next thing right?

Keep it simple.

Big things can be simple too.

God is.

All things are held together by God.

God is love.

Dismissal is my ego’s way of saying I know better, I don’t need help, and leave me alone.

It comes naturally and is encouraged in the society of malleable truths we live in. Find your own way. Do what works for you. Believe anything.

In an effort to please everyone we have hung everyone out to dry in a mediocre worldview that can’t stand up on its own.

We must have a foundation if we are to survive the pitfalls of early sobriety.

We must have a foundation if we are to grow and mature and help others.

We must have a foundation if we aspire to hope that lasts rather than the flimsy whims of greeting cards.

We have that foundation if we will turn toward it and away from ourselves.

God, help me turn to you.
