Topic Introduction
Today’s topic – Anxiety, that neurological and physical response to danger that keeps us safe from lions, tigers, and bears… and that holds us hostage to fear around uncertainty, inadequacies, health concerns, financial strain, and social issues to name a few. We are still primitive in our fight and flight response, but no matter where we run, we can not hide from ourselves… or our anxious thoughts.

At Jessie’s World we are all about spreading love, light, and Blessed Vibez, but it is really hard to feel blessed when you are dealing with Anxiety.

I was raised with a grandmother who was agoraphobic, had anxiety, and had serious panic attacks. I also experience all of the above to varying degrees. Managing anxiety is a conscious effort for me, and one that I am still learning about. What I have learned as I become more open about my struggles with anxiety is that I am definitely not alone.

In fact a 2021 report stated that 47% of North Americans were struggling with anxiety – that is almost half of our adult population.

In Canada people 18 to 39 years old are experiencing the most anxiety.

And an estimated 275 people world-wide suffer from Anxiety on a daily basis.

This episode is dedicated to understanding why anxiety is the silent buzz killer that is robbing so many people’s joy, and what we can do to disarm this mood dampener and get back to enjoying happy days.
But First – it’s …

Tessy Time
“If you do not take interest in the affairs of your government, then you are destined to live under the rule of fools.” Plato

So I was speaking with a friend of mine about the impact Public Policy and the decision making of various Politicians have had on people’s lives.

Often devastating impacts result from things like cuts to social programs for children and youth, cuts to health care, cuts to mental health services.

As we see crime and poverty rates rise, drug use rise, suicide rise. As we see people suffer increasingly lower qualities of life. Coping and just trying to hold on, I paused and realized that many of the policies designed to oppress marginalized, racialized, and diverse low-income people are rewarded by a job well done and a pension for the rest of their lives.

Whether political leaders leave a trail of good lives, quality decisions, and great social impact, or they leave a legacy of pain, locked up youth without a chance to ever change and improve their lives, marginalized poverty struck communities struggling more than every before, horrible housing market, and a lack of employment they leave with the same pat on their backs, and the same big pension. Yes, they are rewarded FOREVER for a job well done, or for turning our great country into a landmine of social inequities and disparities.

As I meditated on that very jarring reality – I wondered, where else do we see people hurt the communities they are most trusted to care for and support, and be rewarded for a horrible job not well done but in public office, and public service. It seems that if the public pays the bill, we are destined to pay forever whether we receive a 5 star meal or a big fat plate of poison.

“Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedies.” Groucho Marx

Then I wondered, what would happen if political and public service pensions were paid in line with KPIs like all other corporations. If they successfully achieve their key performance indicators then they get their pension, but if they screw it all up they leave with a kick in the pants and a howdy doody and we take that pension money and use it to try and right the wrongs they created whilst working on ‘our behalf.’

“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up somewhere else.” Yogi Bear

KPIs are meant to set the bar on where we are going, what success looks like, what we desire…and if we have actually achieved what we have set out to do… for example – if it were up to me,

Key performance indicators for political leaders would include:
• Less people were sick
• Less people died
• More children graduated high school
• More people enrolled in and graduated college and university
• More people were employed
• More people owned homes and property in the country they are citizens or permanent residents of
• More people had good dental care
• More people had good eye care
• Less people died of drug overdoses
• Less people were living on the streets / or homeless
• Less people were living below the poverty line
• Less youth were in young offender facilities
• More youth were employed
• More people started a successful business
• Less children were in the foster system
• More parents were supported in caring for their children successfully
• More families stayed together
• Less crimes were committed
• Less people were incarcerated
• Less arrests happened
• Less speeding tickets were given

Nobel Prize Winner, Dr. Alexis Carrel said “Quality of life is more important than life itself” and if that is true, how is present day leadership doing – are they failing us or are we enjoying a much better quality of life, because on the balance sheet of life, that is the measure that matters most!

A society that is actually functioning well should see their quality of life improve, not decrease. A society with good strong leadership should reward success not focus on punishing failure. In fact, failures should be looked at as opportunities to learn how to avoid them in the future. We should be curious about people, about how public policy creates poverty, which can create youth crime, which can then systemically indoctrinate a young person into a life locked up to never have a normal free existence whilst the policy maker skips off into the sunset which pension check in hand taboot…for example… not that THAT has ever happened….

I want KPIs based on the goal of IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL CITICAENS AND RESIDENTS to be what determines if a politician stays or goes, gets a raise or a decrease in salary, gets a pension or a kick in the pants.

Today’s Topic – Anxious about Anxiety? 20 Natural Remedies to Help You Chillax

What is Anxiety and Why do We Experience it?

Anxiety is the state of extreme worry, fear, and panic that some people feel for a few minutes and some people feel for most of the day.

Even trivial situations or the anticipation of a situation that may not have happened will trigger these feelings in someone with sever anxiety.

I have lived with this experience for as long as I can remember, and managing it is an important part of seeing clearly in life, connecting with myself, serving my purpose on earth, and nurturing and growing quality relationships.

When you have anxiety it can be easy to shut everyone out. But for me, anxiety is like a hungry beast, the more you feed it, the hungrier it gets. It’s insatiable and so at some point it eats you alive or you figure out how to TAKE CONTROL.

Now before I go further, let me be clear, I am not a Mental Health expert, but I do have some experience with it both lived and when working with others.

I’m Not a Dr. – Seek Medical Advice if You Have Anxiety and Need Support

Today’s discussion and suggestions are based on my own lived experiences, what has worked for me, and research I conducted. If you feel you may be struggling with anxiety please speak to a medical professional as they, not I, are best equipped to assist you in terms of what solutions may be best for you.

Anxiety - Cautious Friend or Boogie Man?

I went from being ruled by my anxiety, to being curious about it. I built a relationship with my anxiety. When it shows up I say “oh, there you are. What’s going on, is something bothering you?”

Anxiety can often be so uncomfortable that the first thing you want to do is SHUT IT UP. It makes you panic. It makes you stressed. It can make you irrational and desperate in an attempt to just end this horrid feeling. But at the end of the day it is just a feeling, and like all feelings, it is likely there to tell us something… so I like to pause and listen now… what is my anxiety trying to tell me.

Once I understand WHAT my anxiety is trying to communicate, I can then validate it and respond accordingly – for example it’s icy out don’t drive… that seems valid. Or I can invalidate it – it’s a beauty sunny day and you should not drive you may spin out on no ice that is not there – ummm denied – sorry anxiety not today!

This dialog with my anxiety changes it from a scary monster to somewhat worried friend who sometimes has points and sometimes doesn’t. That’s something I can deal with, and it’s a lot better that the former.

Why Do We Have Anxiety
There are many possible reasons you may experience anxiety. For example, during the height of the Covid 19 pandemic many people who never experienced anxiety before found themselves feeling uneasy, and reasonably so. However, even before the pandemic, a lot of us had this pesky cloud of fear and doubt that we just could not shake… but why?

Some reasons may be:
• GENETICS – yep, thanks Mom and Dad, didn’t raise me but boy oh boy do I appreciate your passing on your ANXIETY gene lol
• LEARNED BEHAVIOUR – remember my grandma, the anxious, panicked, agoraphobic who made me check the door and stove a 100 times before we went anywhere and then after we arrived at our destination said “I hope the stove isn’t on I don’t want the bloody house to burn down” thanks Grandma, you are an angel, a gem, and also – a worry wart and I am not too… but I’m working on changing that!
• Chemical Disorder in the Brain
• Environmental Factors – such as harassment, abuse, violence, rejection, and even death of a loved one… all of which I experienced by the age of 4 so… as I see the reasons roll out, I see we are 3 of 4 and I was always well positioned to have anxiety from the start. Knowing this helps me have compassion for myself, it helps me be patient and kind with myself instead of judging myself. It helps me make friends with my anxiety… so we can enjoy the world a bit more. I realize anxiety may never fully go away, but if it can be my friend and chill out, if it is a bit more reasonable, we can get a lot more out of life together. And as I take more risks, live more, challenge Anxiety’s unfounded assumptions more Anxiety will learn to trust me and will not be so loud when I have already listened and decided it’s concerns are unfounded or unlikely
Not everyone’s reasons for having anxiety are as extreme as the ones I just said, ,people can also feel anxiety around life occurrences many people struggle with like:
• Job stress
• Financial issues
• Health scares
• Relationship issues
• Housing related issues
• Racial discrimination or biases
• Peer pressure that encourages you to do something that you do not want to

Anxiety can range from mild discomfort, to debilitating worry that will have you in bed all day or even for days. Also, the reason for the anxiety may not be clear, it can show us as general discomfort and not let you know the specific reason. This is why I have realized a three prong approach helps me best.

My 4 Prong Approach to Managing Anxiety
1. Take note when I feel it, even say it so others’ don’t get put off by it
2. Listen and see what Anxiety is trying to tell me
3. Consider if the anxiety is founded or not
4. If Anxiety is rooted in a valid practical concern, can I alleviate it by handling my issue for example the anxiety is I don’t want to get in trouble for not paying a parking ticket, then the easy solution is pay the parking ticket. However if it is something like a feeling saying stay home without knowing why, that may be harder to assess the validity since if you listen every time you will end up shut in and closed off from the world and we do not want that.

How to know if You Have Anxiety
If you have anxiety, you can experience almost obsessive worry. You may also feel:
• tense muscles
• trembling
• numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, or legs
• sweating or flushing
• a churning feeling in the stomach
• nausea
• diarrhea
• headaches
• a backache
• arrhythmia and heart palpitations
• Chest pain
• Dizzy spells
• Shortness of breath and more
If you are experiencing any of those systems check with doctor. What makes it worse, is if you do not know you have anxiety you may think there is something physically wrong and that may cause more anxiety so – get checked and have one less thing to stress about.
For me, finding natural ways to manage my anxiety is very important.

Natural Ways to Relieve Anxiety
Here are just a few ways to help reduce your anxiety naturally:
1. Breathe… in threw the nose, out though kissing lips – this calms your nervous system and gives you the space to think clearly
2. Be Proactive and be organized – if you know you have anxiety try to organize your life so you are not behind on bills, deadlines, projects etc. By making it a point to improve your organizational skills you can reduce the number of triggers to your anxiety
3. Drink water – much like breathing, and even paired with deep intentional breathing, drinking water in a meditative state is very important. Check out the Kangen_king on Instagram listed as Osama M to learn about pure water options – bless up yourself my baby bro I love you, yes natural healing runs in the fam
4. Meditate
5. Yoga
6. Stretching
7. Exercise
8. Weight Lifting – I am loving it
9. Walking – I am loving it
10. Fellowship – time with loved ones and friends GET SOCIAL
11. Sex – let’s talk about sex baby
12. Planning your day – focus helps if you know you are busy you can park your anxiety for later, then often you are no longer anxious when you are ready to visit your parking spot
13. Build a parking lot – yes in this situation putting up a parking lot will help create a life of paradise. By parking a situation you gain the space need for perspective and critical thinking and solutions to enter – this is empowering and incredibly helpful
14. Eat healthy – sugar and an americano is delicious but it can also cause you increased anxiety and that’s just not worth it… I SAID IT’S NOT WORTH IT, a moment on your lips…. A lifetime in your mind – put down the brownie 
15. SLEEP – when your body says rest, rest. Also plan your sleep. Go to bed at a decent hour. If you are having trouble sleeping tell your doctor you may need a sleep study to see if you have sleep apnea – don’t play with rest is improves the quality of your life dramatically and that is the entire purpose of tuning in weekly and visiting and joining BlessedVibez.com is to improve the quality of your life – don’t let sleep be the thing that holds you back.
16. Share Your Feelings with Others – “talk to me baby” Torry Lanez – It’s important to talk about how you feel, not to complain, but to learn and grow from your feelings. Have a trusted friend, even a peer who is experiencing the same feelings of anxiety, share with each other’s, and be accountability partners as you work to see what works to reduce your anxiety.
17. Listen to music and lively up yourself – music helps changes your mood and mindset, put on songs that make you feel good and give you a dose of serotonin it is a calorie free, totally natural and healthy pick me up
18. Take care of your health – a healthy body and a healthy mind go together, when you are mindful what you put in your body, and how you treat your body, you give yourself the love, care, and respect you need to feel good about you
19. Listen to a sleep meditation at night, pour good thoughts into you all night long, I do this most nights. It’s a great way to counter negative self talk, worry, or doubts.
20. Find a healthy hobby, say no to drugs and alcohol and yes to swimming, golfing, hiking in nature or any other healthy hobbies that will take your mind off worries and have you feeling on top of the world.
Each person’s journey with anxiety is different. The important thing is that you are actively seeking answers – I am proud of you for that.
You don’t have to be a prisoner to your anxiety. As you work to demystify this not so understood feeling, you will learn that you are a person feeling a feeling. You do not HAVE anxiety; you are EXPERIENCING anxiety. This means that as you embark on a quest to understand your unique experience with anxiety, you could reduce and maybe one day eliminate it all together.

BIG BOSS MOVES - ANXIETY AND BUSINESS
“Bosses have anxiety too!” Jessica Vibez
Anxiety in business can hit different, and it can be layered on top of all the other forms of anxiety we just discussed.
As a CEO and Executive Consultant I am often the one people come to for answers, and the truth is I often have those answers. Anxiety is not comment on skill, knowledge, or ability, it is just something people tend to deal with in silence, especially when they are bosses.
Populuar artist Coi Leray breaks the silence about the anxiety that young ambitious people can face - with the lyrics from her song Anxiety that say
“I been going through it, yeah
Got my mind racing
And they gon' have to face it
I'm destined for greatness, yeah
I'm in first place
They keep tryna take it (Yeah, yeah, yeah)”
The truth is, we often thing of Anxiety as something that shows up when you are down on your luck, but some of the most successful business people in the world cope with anxiety, and it is important you know that, because that means that even if you are dealing with anxiety, it does not mean that it will hold you back from success.
Singer Adele opened up about her anxiety attacks saying “I just think that nothing’s ever gone horrifically wrong. Also, when I get nervous, I try and bust jokes. It does work.”
Thank you, Adele, that’s natural remedy number 21 and 22, think positive thoughts, and make jokes.
Actress / Writer Lena Dunham on the other hand, said she found freedom in her worst fears coming true “It gets easier. My fears came true, people called me fat and hideous and I lived. And now, I keep living!”
There is so much power in knowing and trusting that we can survive even if we face real difficult realities; and in knowing others have survived too.
The unique challenge of being a business owner and having anxiety is often your role is to give others confidence, in the product, in the situation, in the future. If your confidence is wavering that can be difficult.
While understanding others face anxiety too, what are some unique solutions that professionals and entrepreneurs can use so that they can remain calm in the storm.
The reality is, Anxiety is the Enemy of Progress – and in business, progress is everything.
Are you ready for these special tips just for CEOz n Big Ballarz….
REWIND and re-listen to the tips already mentioned.
They are the same.
The solutions are the same.
CEOs, Bosses and Ballars are humans too.
Celebrities are humans too.
You also need sleep, and to eat well, and to exercise, and to breathe, and to laugh, and to dance, and to talk it out.
Treat yourself with the same compassion as you would others who you know suffer from anxiety.
Being unkind or placing unrealistic expectations on yourself because ‘you’re the boss’ is not going to help, in fact, it could make the anxiety worse.
Almost every episode I remind my listeners, my peer personal and business development travelers, my success seekers that we must fill our cup so it runneth over onto all around us. Do not deplete yourself and expect top performance. If your bottom line, or your KPIs do not suffer, your health will.
Prioritize your health. Acknowledge your anxiety. Listen to it, what is it telling you. Then get support. Put you first, and watch how much capacity you will gain to lead and support your team. You’ve got this!
And THAT’s how you make BIG BOSS MOVES 

How to Move Forward
"Every time you are tempted to act in the same old way, ask yourself, do you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future." Deepak Chopra
If you have unresolved anxiety perhaps doing something different will help you find relief. Try the 22 suggestions outlined in this episode. Also consider speaking with your doctor.
