Transport for the North Chief Executive Martin Tugwell issued a rallying cry at the Transport For The North conference, held in Liverpool yesterday.
Urging for a shift in investment strategy towards the North of England, Tugwell argued that a "one size fits all" approach is hindering the region's potential, and called for devolution of powers to unlock "transformational change."
Also at the event was rail minister Huw Merriman who outlined the governments plans for Network North and Northern Powerhouse Rail, arguing that both schemes could realise the potential of the region.

Transport for London (TfL) is inviting Londoners to have their say on ambitious proposals to extend the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Thamesmead and Beckton Riverside.

The new DLR stations would also improve connectivity to an area which so far has no tube, DLR or rail links to East London. With the construction of the new line, Thamesmead could be connected to Stratford and the Isle of Dogs, as well as direct services to central London.

The scheme has the backing from London mayor Sadiq Khan and both Newham and Greenwich councils

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) and Stadler Rail have agreed a deal for the supply and maintenance of 10+10 Next Generation Passenger Trains, marking a significant step towards the Kingdom's Vision 2030 development goals.
The 600 million swiss francs deal will see Stadler supply the trains alongside providing full maintenance and the provision of spare parts for a period of 10 years.
The country is aiming to double passenger capacity to over 3 million by 2030 along with connecting the Red Sea with the Arabian Gulf by rail.
