Full show transcript:
I've seen a lot of people, not just influencers, but a lot of people that are talking about putting up their Christmas tree like right away.
Oh, everybody that I follow on Instagram has got their tree up already.
Like it was like Halloween was done and they were setting
it up that night, some of them. I feel like that's just too I don't know. I have a lot of Christmas stuff.
Yeah.
And so it feels like a little cluttery if I leave it up too long.
Okay,
I understand that. I don't like to leave it up too long, but I feel that way about all of my holiday report.
But we end up putting stuff up, and maybe it's up for like three or four weeks, maybe five weeks if we don't get around to taking it down right away. Um this is interesting.
Uh I just saw this on uh on Facebook. Somebody said maybe that Christmas tree going up early is giving someone something to look forward to. Maybe it makes their home feel happier. Maybe it's helping them through something that you know nothing about. Maybe they just love Christmas, and that could be reason enough. And I think that's super
interesting because I like we'll drive through the neighborhood within the next few days. I guarantee we'll see people with Christmas trees up in their living rooms.
I don't care what people do in their own houses.
Put your Put your stuff up. I don't care.
That's just not my preference. Right. When do you think is a good time? Are you are because we normally are kind of Thanksgiving-ish when stuff goes up. Sometimes it's a little before, sometimes it's after. Um, what do you feel in this year?
I don't know. We could do it a little bit before. I don't mind doing that.
Now we have the studio that we have to
decorate
sooner than home.
Correct.
Because we've got to make the switch to Christmas music soon. Yeah. Um, and so that's going to be happening. So we'll be doing some decorating. Um, for sure. Anything new in here you're thinking about any new surprises.
No.
Well, then, same old, same old. Okay. Uh all right. Well, anyway, something to kind of look forward to. We got some decorating to do. So I would imagine probably within the next couple of weeks, we need to start getting ourselves in gear to decorate in here.
But I do like there is a woman that I follow on Instagram, and she is she's kind of just taking her time with it.
So she's like, I just got out all my stuff. I'm just taking it slow. And she's like, you know, tomorrow I'll work on the garland on my fireplace. And she's like trying to find, she's shopping for like the right color of bow that she wants to get.
So it's she's just a slow process. It's not like she's rushing herself to get it done.
And maybe
that's a nice way to look at it. Yeah.
Last year we did two trees. How are you feeling about it this year?
I mean, I like because we like to our fireplace is in the basement.
Yeah. And
we like to put our tree in the basement.
That's our Christmas morning area.
And Santa knows that that's where the tree is.
But I also, if it's in the basement, I don't get to come home to twinkly lights on the tree. And so I like having
we spend most of our time upstairs, and so I like to have a twinkly tree upstairs.
And so we set up two.
Yeah.
I'd like to have you want both this year?
Kinda.
Okay. I don't mind.
Okay. I
don't have a problem with that.
Okay.
That's all good. All good with me.
Great.
All right. Well, uh, we'll talk more about that as we get closer to setting all of that up. But uh, I'm on board.
Christmas is on the way, baby.
It is, it is coming. Hey, here's today's show. Hey there.
Hi there.
What's up?
Tuesday. It's Tuesday. Tuesday, Tuesday.
Okay. Uh, you and I voted early, so we are wearing I voted stickers.
I saved mine.
Yeah.
To wear today. Usually if I go to vote early, then I put on my sticker then.
Right.
And then on voting day, I go, oh. Right.
I wish I had my sticker. Saved it this time. And I did as well. And so I'm wearing it today because today is the day to get out to the polls. They open up at 8 a.m. They're open until 8 o'clock tonight. Make a plan to get out and vote.
If you don't know where to vote, go to vote idaho.org.gov.gov. Excuse me.
Vote idaho.gov, and it'll tell you where you need to go to vote. So do that. Make sure.
Take your ID with you.
And take your ID and take a friend. Uh that's awesome. So go vote. Uh let's see. I do want to share some good news really quick. Uh, Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia. It's a family-friendly resort that has an indoor water park that is maintained at 84 delicious degrees year-round. Over the past couple of days, the lodge partnered with uh the USO for a treats for the troops drive, uh, which was a huge win for everybody involved. Families brought in wrapped Halloween candy to the lobby, I guess bags of it. Um, and they were awarded one water park day pass for every two pounds they donated.
Oh, nice.
And this allows families to unload all their extra Halloween, and uh then they also get to have some fun for the like with the kids. Uh as a bonus, all the collected goodies are going directly to local military service members heading home for the holidays, including sailors and soldiers at the nearby Naval Coast Guard and Army bases.
So that's all uh gonna get shipped out, which is kind of fun. Um, you know, nice little treats from home, but also treats at home.
I like that.
That's
they got a year-round water park.
What a good idea.
Yeah, a
delicious, what'd you say?
Eight a delicious eighty four degrees year-round.
Delicious.
84 degree water, it's gonna feel warm.
Yeah, it is
all year.
I I get it.
You you want to go to a water park in uh January, February?
Kinda.
If the water's 84 degrees, yeah.
Yeah. Anyway.
That's good news and good Tuesday morning. I have been wanting to read a river runs through it. And I thought to myself, uh, you know what would be good is if I got an audio book. I could listen to it in the in the truck, like while I'm driving around. Um, I could throw in an earbud, I could listen to it, you know, while I'm working on other stuff at work. I thought this will be this would be a good way uh to enjoy this piece of literature. Mm-hmm.
And uh that sounds nice, right? But then I started looking around, like, where do you get this audiobook? Where can I find it? And so then I was like, well, do I have a free uh trial to you know, audible or something, and I'm looking around trying to find a way to get this thing, I'm looking at Google books, I'm looking at all these different places. Like, where can I get a copy of this audio book?
$15. And I'm like, I'm that's as much as you would pay for a paperback or whatever. Like that's a physical book, and I'm only gonna probably listen to the audio book maybe once or twice ever, right? Like, but I'm gonna say I'm gonna pay the same price. I guess that's not
if I owned it, I'd probably read it like once or twice and I'm paying the same money. So anyway, I'm just trying to justify it in my head, and then I was like uh sitting there on the bed the other day, and I had the uh brilliant realization that I have a library card, yeah,
and you can check out audiobooks from the library.
Yeah, if you had said your any of your thoughts out loud.
Yeah, I've been dealing with that for like two
weeks before I came to the realization. Josh, we have an app.
Yeah, because
you sat on the bed, I said, What are you doing? And he said, I'm trying to find an audio book.
Yeah,
said, ah, get Libby. We have Libby.
I'm literally doing that right now. I was logged in, I downloaded or checked out the book, uh, and I started uh listening to the book.
Yeah, well, only about the first maybe 10 minutes or whatever. How is it?
Because here's what I found.
What
identical to the movie is how it is so far.
Great.
Uh here's what I've what I've realized. I don't drive a whole lot in the week. And then on the weekends, I'm driving with other people and they don't want to listen to my book.
Well, you can just turn it on when you're like sitting here listening to the book.
That's what I said. I'm gonna have to do it.
Like work. Yeah.
Like while I'm doing work stuff,
I'm gonna have to
um do something like that because literally I'm like in the car for five minutes. I'm like, takes longer to get the app up and running than I actually get to listen.
More of a commute.
I don't necessarily want that. But I'm trying to listen to an audio book.
And so I get like,
you know, four minutes of it, and then I'm like, oh, I'm here.
Sometimes I get a little envious of people who do commute because they have the time to listen to a book. But
then you have to commute.
Then you add it, yeah.
You gotta deal with traffic, you gotta deal with ugh.
I know. I know, I know it.
Yeah, I'd rather not have the commute and then have to find a way to you know, find time to listen to my book. But I've got a couple of weeks I checked it out for, and uh, and uh it's like I think eight hours.
Um that's not bad.
No, no, it should be fine.
But so far, the first few minutes. I mean, it's word for word, the intro of the movie. I don't like listening to people read to me. But I also sometimes would like to listen while I'm doing other stuff.
It's a multitasking kind of thing. Sure, and you can also uh control the speed too. Like I could listen to it at like a one and a half speed if I want, and and that's gonna be a quicker way to read through the book. So maybe maybe that's part of it. Maybe it's the cadence that you don't like. Maybe it's because it's you're reading so slow.
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what it is,
but
I need to I need to try again because I I'm I want to put on a book while I'm sewing.
Yeah, that way I'm getting two things done. Yeah.
I'm reading and quilting.
Right.
You see?
I do see. I do.
Two hobbies that I don't have time for.
Yeah, but hey, uh, just so everybody knows, if you have a library card, there's a good chance a library uh has audio books you can check out as well. And so you have no excuse to not read. Or listen to reading. Yeah. I guess. Uh anyway. I started a book.
Yay!
I know. Pretty exciting. So something very exciting happening uh this year. The Capitol uh in Washington, the U.S. Capitol, uh, will receive a Christmas tree that comes from Idaho Forests.
That's great.
Is uh
it's kind of cool. Yeah. So it is a an Englan spruce. It has been harvested. Uh it has been loaded into its transportation truck. And then uh part of that truck is like uh kind of clear uh you know plexiglass on the one side. So they've decorated and lit the tree in there. Um I saw just yesterday all the permitting and stuff is ready, so it is it is going to be traveling uh across the state and then on its journey all the way to Washington, because you can't necessarily just fly a tree there. You gotta drive it.
Uh but it's coming from Idaho, which is which is cool.
Paul Bunyan to carry it.
That is true. Uh yeah. And so coming up this uh weekend, the sixth, um, in Idaho Falls, downtown Idaho Falls, the Christmas tree will be in town.
That's cool. Yeah.
So what is the sixth? Is that Friday?
Friday. Yeah. Friday. Uh so you'll be able to view the tree up close. They'll have different uh capital tree merchandise that you can check out. Uh you can meet the team behind the whole thing. Um, and uh and you can actually check out the tree yourself.
Uh that is Friday, 5 30 to 7 30 downtown.
For some times.
Yeah. 5 30 to 7 30 downtown Idaho Falls. Um you if you go to US Capital Christmas Tree.com, um, you can uh you can find it there. Um and uh it's gonna be uh what are they calling it? Whistle stop tour 2026. Um and you can see all of the different locations.
That's not what I see that it's called.
Uh
from the forest to the falls is what I see that it's called.
Okay. But if you go to US Capital Christmas Tree.com, it's whistle stop tour 2026.
Oh, I'm looking at uh a Facebook event.
Okay, well, I'm looking at the actual one from US Capital Christmas Tree.com.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. It says uh the Idaho Valls Public Library parking lot and along South Capitol Avenue.
Yeah, it'll be uh it'll be uh South Capit, Idaho Falls. Yeah. That's uh I don't have the
actual address, it just says South Capitol. Well, they're also going to do, just so you know, they also are gonna have live music, winter crafts and stories.
Okay.
You can make a handmade ornament for the trees journey to Washington, DC.
Cool.
There is interactive booths about Idaho's national forests and winter treats.
Let's go. A winter treat.
I'm in.
All right.
Friday, Friday evening, uh 5 30 to 7 30. Make plans. That's gonna be fun. Downtown Idaho Falls. If you want to see for yourself this grand tree, it is quite large.
It is huge. Huge.
Yeah, it's 76 feet.
Yeah, it's a giant tree. Uh and it again, it's an English spruce.
I'm kind of sad that we had to cut it down though.
Yeah, but we get to send that over to Washington and the Capitol gets to look nice because of a tree from Idaho, which is a good thing.
And then what? So and then what?
Uh great question. If you go, you can ask. What happens to it after Christmas?
Yeah, because don't tell me you cut it down for nothing.
Yeah. That's a great question for you to ask when you see it in person.
I will.
Uh on Friday. All right. Now you know.
Cool. I think it's cool. It is cool.
Good job, Idaho. You got some good forests.
Yes.
And you grew an excellent tree. So go see it Friday. Our son's working on uh moving things. He's moving into a different place. He's in the that process. And uh, and as he's kind of uh doing that, he's realized that as he's he decided to move slowly, right? I'm gonna move a little bit here, a little bit here, a little bit here, and now he's got to the point where stuff that he needs is not at both locations. Yesterday it was I forgot I moved uh
uh on my clothes, and so I don't have any pants here.
So that creates a conundrum. Uh but you know, he's getting there, like stuff's happening, and that's uh that's a big deal.
The final push was gonna be last night.
He was gonna be working on his bed and he decided not to.
And I said, Uh do you have pants? Do you need to go to
that and get
some of your pants? And he goes, No, I got stuff that'll work. Okay That's what he told me too. And I said, All right, dude, well, whatever you need, you know, let me know. Uh, but that's kind of a funny thing that you know, usually like when we would move, you'd box everything up and you'd move and you're and you're gone. And uh I haven't slow moved before, so I haven't necessarily had a situation where I've had half my stuff here and half my stuff there. I once worked with a coworker who moved, and then she had to call in one of the days. She called in and said, I can't, I can't come to work today because I didn't I don't know where any of my clothes are.
They had moved to the place, and they're like, I I have nothing to wear to work.
I don't have anything to wear because all my clothes are boxed up. And to which I go, Well, even when we moved, it was like you kept a bag of your important stuff to get ready. It was like you packed an overnight bag.
Do you want to know that it's been so long since we've moved that I don't even remember that? And I'm okay with that feeling.
Yeah, because
we're very okay with that.
We did move a lot when we were first
Yeah, you were counting it was like six times in the first five years or something.
Yeah, really stupid.
Apartment to apartment to apartment to family to apartment to family to wherever. Yeah. Uh yeah, that's fun.
Moving is the worst.
Yeah. And then a whole bunch of stuff in a storage unit because you can't when you're staying with other people, you can't have all your stuff.
That's the worst. Don't move in with other people because then your stuff is in storage.
Yeah.
And then you can't have any of your stuff.
Until you get out of there, and then you go to your own place, and then you take your stuff out of storage and you move it into your place.
Oh, here's all my stuff.
Oh, yeah. Look, it's back. Here it here it is.
I like all my stuff.
Yeah. And then I do remember uh the townhouse that we stayed at in Pocatello had uh it had a garage that we stored a bunch of stuff in.
Uh-huh.
Because we didn't want it in the townhouse. And now I'm I'm just trying to remember like was that garage pretty packed?
Yes.
I feel like it was pretty packed.
Yes.
How did we have so much stuff?
We were so young. I don't know.
What were we hauling around?
I don't know.
You know, like I think about it and I'm like, why did we have a garage full of stuff?
I mean, there was like decorations. We had like holiday decorations.
Yeah.
And Christmas trees.
But I I do feel like that garage. Like you had to kind of like shimmy your way through to get to things. And it was we were not like, why do we have so much stuff?
Why do we have so much stuff now?
Well, now we have a house and a garage and a shed and a basement and all that stuff.
Why do we have so much stuff?
I don't know.
We don't need any of it. Get rid of all that fly tying stuff.
Don't wrong with you. Why would you pick that? I have one tiny corner in the basement and a couple of bins on a shelf. Man, coming after my stuff. I don't have a whole room. Now you're like, well, once uh once uh our son's out of there, I think I want to take over that room too.
I think I'll have two rooms. No, I'm not gonna have two rooms. I just want one room.
But I'm trying to decide if I want to move up from the basement or not, because I I don't like having my craft room in the basement because I do like to know what's going on outside in the world.
But it is a smaller room.
Uh-huh.
So you're gonna have two rooms, is what I'm saying. I'm not gonna have two rooms. Because once I move out of the basement, we'll turn that into a room. Like a bedroom, like a guest room.
Right.
Right. Not gonna have two rooms. But I also don't think it's gonna happen because moving my desks upstairs.
stairs. I know we'll
be
these things weigh a lot of pounds.
Ugh. So I just don't I don't know. It was easy to move them down.
It wasn't. It wasn't easy. You weren't involved. It wasn't easy.
I was involved. I was in the corner watching, going, ooh.
Right.
Remember?
Yeah. But
they're on wheels.
Cool. How's that work with stairs? You could put a ramp. Up 14 stairs.
Yeah. Just get a couple pieces of wood, put a ramp, and just push them upstairs. I'll do it.
Where are you gonna get wood that long that we we don't have that laying around?
I'll go find some.
Okay. You
could use cardboard boxes.
No, you cannot. It's easy. It's no big deal.
In an effort to eat healthier and to get more protein, because you gotta have 175 grams of protein.
Is that for real?
It's an obscene amount of protein. Go
ahead. I gotta find out. Okay. We bought this little egg machine thing, and you just it's not a machine
at all. It's just a little plastic thing that you throw in the microwave. You can put your egg in there, you scramble it up. I put peppers and green onions in mine. You just put cheese in yours.
Yeah, well, because we ran out of meat.
Yeah, we did have some sausage we were throwing in there,
but
um every day that we've been making these for the past couple of weeks, I'm like, oh, I need some hot sauce. I keep forgetting hot sauce. Well, lo and behold, guess what? I found a packet of sriracha, I threw it in my lunch bag, sriracha on my eggs.
Yeah, no, that's not the right hot sauce. Why?
It's not, it's not what I would typically choose, but it'll do in a pinch, and it's pretty good.
I I like sriracha, but sriracha is for uh more ethnic foods.
Well, no, I understand that, but it still works.
Yeah, it's
still great.
I prefer like a cholula,
yeah. I don't have
a Valentina
Tapat
tapatillo.
You see the trend.
Those are the hot sauces I like with breakfast.
No, I
understand a lot of people like uh Tabasco on their eggs.
I also like tobacco.
Do you? Yeah. Here's the thing. I don't mind Tabasco, it's just so vinegary.
Yeah, it's
like it's heavy, heavy, heavy vinegar. Um, and and I'm that's not what I'm in it for.
We had some friends over this weekend, and you were making breakfast, and we got out all the hot sauce. She does not eat any kind of hot sauce.
That's right.
And then I said, here's all this plethora of hot sauces, and here's some salsa. We're making breakfast burritos, and she said, No, I'm gonna pass on all of that. And
then she said, go ahead. Do you have any ketchup? Yeah. Which I then said, uh, we're not a ketchup house, so I don't think we do. And literally, there's no ketchup in the fridge. There
is
I've got like three different kinds of mustard, but I cannot help you with ketchup.
Uh any kind of hot sauce you want. We are a hot sauce family.
That's right.
But we don't have any ketchup.
Right.
So get out of here. Why are you also why are you gonna put ketchup on your eggs? I think you were offended.
I've never loved you more.
You are offended by this beautiful delicious breakfast that you had cooked. And she said, Where's the ketchup?
Ketchup is disgusting, and everything that ketchup touches turns to ketchup. It's the only thing you can taste. And a lot of people are like, well, I like that. I like the taste of ketchup. And I go, you are so wrong. You're so wrong. Ketchup is bad. It is I
like ketchup.
Do you know? Not on my eggs. First of all, I I'm gonna look up another thing here really quick, but just to clarify on the protein thing, for an average sized person, you should have roughly 50 to 60 grams of protein a day.
How much?
50 to 60 grams
of protein?
Yeah.
Uh I don't think that's true.
Uh yeah.
Because I I shoot for like 77 every day.
You need to settle down.
No, it that's true. I read somewhere.
Okay, if you are between 40 and 60, they recommend that you have around 75 to 90
grams
to help prevent age-related muscle loss.
Yeah.
But just in general, for a general healthy adult, a good baseline target is roughly 50 to 60 grams.
This one says a 45-year-old woman should eat between 60 and 120 grams of protein a day.
It's impossible to get 120 grams of protein.
Tell me about it.
That's all you're eating, is just chicken.
I'm trying to shoot for 77 grams, and I can't even get that.
How much protein is in uh like chickpeas and tofu and some of those other things?
Edamame. Oh, they have a lot. Edamami actually has a lot of uh protein.
Yeah. Because I know you like a lot of that stuff. Like maybe you could supplement, maybe you could throw in some
I have been.
Hey, hey, yay.
I try to eat. Like I go, how much protein? That's all I've become obsessed with lately. The protein. How much protein can I get? I'm tired of talking about protein.
Okay. Do you want to know how easy it is to get sugar?
It's so easy.
One tablespoon of traditional tomato ketchup. Four grams of sugar in one tablespoon.
That's a lot.
Dude, all ketchup
is sugar.
It's red sugar. It's insane.
And
then people are like, yeah, I put it on hot dog. I like it on a hot dog. I go, put it on a baloney sandwich then.
Ew.
Why? Why? It's the same meat, just rolled flat.
Because who's eating bologna?
It's the
same thing.
I do not like ketchup. Four grams of sugar per tablespoon.
That's a lot of sugar.
Insane. Insane. Anyway. That's enough about the dietary thing. I'm gonna go eat my egg.
You want some sriracha?
No.
We talk a lot about the slang that kids are
using
these days. We try to get on board with it.
Okay. When
I say we try to get on board with it.
with it. Yeah, that's you. I'm actually hip.
Says who.
Oh, all the kids. They're like, that guy right there, he's uh in the no. That guy, he's up to speed. He knows the lingo.
No cap.
Sure. And
do people say that anymore?
I don't know.
Okay. I am I'm trying to make an effort of bringing like some old sayings back.
Like I've been trying to say, oh, fiddlesticks. Yeah, that's I don't know that that was ever like a big thing. Like that was not like a daily thing in our lifetime.
That's what I'm saying. Like I'm bringing old, old stuff back.
Got it.
Like, oh, fiddlesticks. Because then people will go. It'll make people think twice. And they'll be like, she's think twice.
What? Do you you mean to a double take?
You want people to be like, what did she say? Exactly.
Yeah, okay.
Okay, so here's
the or do you mean you want them to think twice? You talk to me, you're gonna get the fiddlesticks. You think twice?
No, it's like a second look.
Like you were like, you stub your toe and you go, oh, fiddlesticks. Yeah.
People expect you to say something else.
I see. I got it.
But you surprise them.
I see
with the old fiddlesticks.
And then people go, what are you? 85? Yeah.
No. Are you from 1850? And that's so cool.
Oh, is it?
Yeah. Okay, here's some old. Here's some old sayings.
These are these are from fiddlesticks era.
I mean, some of them are.
Okay.
Don't get your knickers in a twist.
Yeah, all right. That's I mean, that has had different uh more updated variations for sure.
I've heard that one before, but not you know, for a while. Now you're cooking with gas.
Now we're cooking with gas. Very unsafe. Well, unless you just mean like natural gas, in which case, now you're cooking with natural gas.
Yeah.
Was that an ad campaign for natural gas?
It actually was in the mid 20s.
1930s. That checks out. Yeah. But
now
in the 30s. Uh huh. Yeah.
They were trying to get people to switch to gas stoves instead of wood. But now it can mean a couple of things. It can mean like if somebody's going fast or you're doing something really good.
Oh, now we're cooking.
Now we're cooking with gas.
Like now ideas are rolling.
Okay.
Do that in a brainstorm session. How often do you have those?
Nobody, nobody's ever invited me to a brainstorm slash. Really? Yeah.
Oh, I had just like three last week.
Did you say that?
No, I didn't say. Now we're cooking with gas. They would have been like, what is wrong with this guy? What's when's that from?
1930s.
Yeah. And now we're cooking with gas.
Okay, how about this one? Mind your P's and Q's.
Yeah, that's I've heard that. Like in my lifetime, I've heard people say that.
It's like pay attention.
What's P's and Q's?
No one really knows.
No one knows? Not one person knows what the P's and Q's are.
I don't think so.
There's gotta be someone out there who's like, I know exactly what the P's and Q's are. It's your P's and Q's, dude.
Okay.
Oh,
you gotta I'm not stalling. You figure it out type faster. What are P's and Q's? Um it doesn't really stand for anything.
It has to.
There's a couple of different things. So early writing for children required them to carefully distinguish between similar letters like P and Q.
Okay.
Or old printing press shops.
Type setters had to backwards.
I get it. That makes sense. Okay. I could I can uh jam with that. Or like pints and quartz in the
Mind your pints and chords.
In old taverns.
Oh, okay.
Uh a lot of people are saying please and thank you with the Q sound acting as a quick abbreviation for the phonetic link for thank you. Cue.
Thank you.
Oh, I see what you're saying.
I see what you did there.
Thank you.
Right. Mind your P's and Q's.
There's French dancing instructions.
It's probably that.
What's the less likely theory?
Yeah. I don't think any of those are really it.
Okay. Mind your P's and Q's. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand girls.
I've said that before.
You have said that before.
Most of the time when I'm playing horseshoes or with hand grenades. No. Anytime I'm playing horseshoes or cornhole or ladder golf, any of those games.
Ladder. And people go, Oh, that was so close, and I go,
close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
Stupid. You say that when you play ladder golf, because you played ladder golf on a regular basis.
No, I don't. I don't actually enjoy that one.
That's kind of the lamest of the yard games.
I mean, I also don't like the walking to go pick up stuff. Like I threw that down there, and now I have to go get it. I like it when you play with a team, and that person who's at the other end is responsible for picking them up and throwing them out.
them back to me.
That's how I like to play. I don't like to play heads up where I have to walk to the other end. Ugh. Let me walk back and forth until this game is over. I'm not a big fan of that. I'll stand at one end and be a good team player, but the walking back and forth. No, thank you.
Now you're cooking with gas.
That's right. Give me one more.
No comments from the peanut gallery.
Yeah, that's that's not that old, too. I hear that all the time. Yeah.
Okay, which one did I say I was gonna use the most? I like the cooking with gas one. That's my favorite.
Now you're cooking with gas. You gotta say it all uh rag timey
like that.
Like big.
Right. Yeah,
like uh
big energy.
Yeah, like ah, yeah, now you're cooking with gas. Stranger Things this Friday is uh Stranger Things Day.
Okay.
Stranger Things turned 10 years old this year.
No way.
Isn't that crazy?
That's insane.
Yeah. Uh it and this year to celebrate the 10 years, they released the uh the VHS version of uh Stranger Things.
So they they released season one in a VHS mode.
Um, so it had like uh like an old VHS kind of feel to it. And a lot of people are like, dude, like this is uh this is really cool. And they're saying that maybe they'll do the rest of the seasons the same way, but season one they did on that VHS uh kind of rental look,
which is kind of fun.
Um it's but it's been a decade uh since Stranger Things started and uh Stranger Things Day, by the way, uh is the uh November 6th, happens to be this Friday. That's the day Will Byers went missing in the show.
That's why it's November 6th.
Um so we're a couple of days away from that, and conformity gate is in full swing.
That's what you were telling me yesterday.
You said that there's a whole bunch of conspiracy theories still out there. Here's the deal. Fans of the show are not ready to let go of stranger things, they're just not.
I am.
Um
I'm a fan of the show.
But like there's a lot of people who are like, I I'm not okay with accepting that that is the end of the show. There has to be a sixth sixth season because there were unanswered questions, there were plot holes, there were things that weren't addressed, there were so many things that people were like, we still need to know these things, and they just aren't happy uh with the lack of closure.
I think maybe it's just time you move on.
And some people are saying that. But here's the deal. Stranger Things Day is approaching November 6th, and the internet is once again going crazy with conformity gate theories. Fans are hunting for clues from the season five finale and saying that it couldn't be the end. There's speculation about a secret sixth season or a surprise bonus episode bonus episode making a comeback.
Um, there's cryptic promotional messages because they did this whole thing. Stranger Things Netflix did this whole thing about flip the tape. Mm-hmm.
Right.
I remember that. Which is when you when you have like reach the end of side A on a cassette, you flip it over and you get side B. So there's this whole like, what are they why are they saying flip the tape? That's its own strange thing. Stranger things.
Uh then you have uh musical artists with songs that have been heavily featured in the show teasing some stranger things vibes type stuff. So that's kind of doing their own thing.
Sony released a video yesterday, I think, of uh something that's like it's familiar but updated, and it looks like the walkman, like they might be bringing back the Sony Walkman with the old school headphones. Like I don't know. But all of this stuff plays into that sort of mid 80s vibe, and it's all stranger things things, and so a lot of people are like, I'm telling you, it's not done. There's more stranger things, there's more story to tell. Um so maybe Netflix is up to something, maybe the Duffer brothers are up to something, or maybe not.
I just don't think so. I think it's done, and everybody needs to wash their hands of it and move on with their day.
Wow. Stranger Things fans
definitely not done investigating. They're
not done with this one.
They are
why find a new one? I'm not done investigating Stranger Things.
It's done. It's finished. And how many shows have you watched where you go, I didn't like that ending, but it's over.
I didn't like the the fact that a network ended a show because the show was very good. It's a show called Jericho. Uh it was on CBS. It got one season. The show was very good. And it only had one season, and then it was gone forever because they canceled it.
Um that's happened to a lot of shows.
I'm sure it has, but not as good as that one. That was a cool show.
Didn't that have I didn't watch that with you, but didn't it have Skeet Ulrich in it?
I believe that.
The guy be. The guy from scream.
Uh stand by.
I'm I'm stood.
Uh it did have Skeet Ulrich, yeah. Yep. Um very cool show. It was on in 2006, one season, a post-apocalyptic action drama.
Hey Josh.
Hey, what?
That was 20 years ago.
Hey, mind your business.
Mind your P's and Q's.
That's right.
Maybe it's time you moved on. If I could hey.
No, I'm not done with it. And Stranger Things has a sixth season. We just haven't got it yet. Or at least one more episode.
Although those actors and actresses have moved on. They're doing other stuff.
They already filmed it. They just haven't released it.
Wrong.
Or right.
what would you say your latest obsession is right now?
Well, right now I'm doing a lot of boat
research.
So maybe that.
Okay.
Is that accurate?
Yeah, I'd agree with that.
Okay.
You just started another boat video this morning.
Well, I'm learning about boats.
What would you say my latest obsession is?
I've been worrying about a boat. Um Protein. Protein seems to be your latest obsession.
Like a lot of people are talking about like, here's my latest obsession. And a lot of people are like, I want candles. Like every time I go to a store, it's the candles. Like, oh no, I don't care about candles.
Yeah, I don't want that.
And I don't know if I'd necessarily call this an obsession. And especially because I haven't been last year. I got into kind of junk journaling.
Yeah.
And I was using a lot of, and I used to be a scrapbooker and I worked at a scrapbook store, so I have tons of scrapbook paper and stickers
and ribbons and all of that stuff.
But my when I was junk journaling, it became all about using like recycled papers and different things.
And so I became obsessed with the insides of envelopes. Yes.
But I think you've collected them all now. I think so.
I mean, there's there's gotta be some you don't have because you don't you don't get bills from every company.
No, but I do at work, I would open the mail and
then I'd be like, oh, I like that one. And I'd set the envelope aside, and then when I would leave for the day, I would have some
envelopes, and then people would be like, What are you doing with those? And I'd be like, There's nothing inside, I promise. I'm not stealing like important information from the company.
Just empty envelopes.
Garbage that I'm taking home and using the paper up. So I became obsessed with that for a while, but I don't necessarily I'm not necessarily obsessed with that anymore.
I'm trying to think what my latest obsession is.
I Don't have one. I need one. I think it's important to have a slight obsession.
Like too much is crazy. But if you I think it's healthy and normal to have a little bit
obsession about something cool, like a hobby or something.
Yeah. I'm trying to I'm trying to ponder myself a little bit.
Like
it's easy for me to be like, ah, the boat. I'm learning about the boat. I'm learning about different uh rowing techniques and different uh, you know, boat stuff. I'm learning about boats. Uh but that's that's easy to think of. But I also think that like there's other stuff. I'm still, you know, very much into fly fishing and and the boat and all that, but uh, there's probably other things that I'm like, yeah, but also like I can't stop thinking about this game on my phone or can't do it.
Oh, you are obsessed with that.
I'm not obsessed,
yes, sir.
Even we had some friends at our house over the weekend, and we were just sitting at the table playing. It was totally a multitask.
And no,
and it was fine. And I got a notification about my game, and I went, oh, I'll just clear this notification real quick. And then I got called out. Are you playing a game right now while we're sitting here talking? And I went, yeah. It'd be the same as if we were all playing a game. I'm still here talking.
No,
I love that she called you out because it wasn't me for one.
I loved it.
Did you? Yep. Yeah. I
was like, keep going. She pulled out our school teacher voice and everything.
Yeah. Are you on your phone right now in class? Settle down. It's gonna be okay.
That was awesome.
Do I need to go put it in the shoe holder for the rest of the evening? You want one of those uh fancy locking bags with the magnet clip on there so I can't access my phone.
Sometimes
crazy.
That's been you've been obsessed with that game for a while, though.
Yeah, I've beat over 4,000 levels in it.
It's kind of a boot. You don't even know who you married. I'm so I've never been more impressed by that.
I know. It's a big deal. You should be uh pretty stoked.
Over 4,000 levels on Royal.
Match. Yeah, you want to know how many? Wow. I don't. I actually don't. Let's just find out right now.
I actually, if I could push the button right now, I would.
Yeah.
I don't care.
You would hit
which button.
Which button would you? I'm just waiting for it to load. Which button would you push?
I'd push that red button.
The red one or the green one.
They're red.
I mean, they both kind of do the same thing.
Okay. Just
checking real
quick to let you know. Here's what level you are on.
4,374.
It's not impressive.
I mean, I think it's kind of impressive.
It's not. It's actually kind of lame.
Wow. Now we're cooking with gas. You have uh an interesting question, and I don't know how exactly to go about answering it because I don't want to take a cold shower.
Okay, but you have to take cold showers for like 12 weeks.
No, I'm not doing listen to this.
They're saying that adults who take co mostly cold showers for twelve weeks reported fewer sick days and fewer days off.
But why? What's the point? And how cold?
They took showers on the coldest setting from 30
seconds to seconds
to several minutes. Yeah. So it's not like a minutes long shower, 30 seconds to a couple minutes. Also, sometimes what?
No, go ahead.
What now you say?
Because we were talking about the cold plunge thing.
Oh, yeah.
And and you were you were kind of like, yeah, I think I could do it, but I'm not doing it like every day. And then you kind of decided you weren't gonna do it at all, and then you just never did it. But for a minute, you were like, I think I could get into this.
But I want to have like I want to have a warm shower right after. That doesn't sound like me at all, where I get really hyped up about something. I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna go all in on this, and then I do it once and then I never do it again.
You never did it.
That doesn't sound like a big one.
Did you do it? Did you turn the water cold in the shower?
Yeah, I did it a couple of things.
All the way cold.
Yes.
All the way cold.
Yes.
For how long?
Like
till the cold water hit you and then you turned it back.
No, I did it for about a minute.
No way.
Yeah, way. I did it twice at least. Yeah, wait.
No way.
Yeah, way.
Twelve weeks you gotta take the is that the only shower you get, is that cold shower?
No. You you take a cold shower and then you just turn it to warm.
Is that what it says?
I don't know.
Because what you're saying is you're taking a two-minute freezing cold shower. And that's it.
I know I can't.
And then you you and then you won't get sick.
And I can't do that.
I'd rather get a sick day.
No, I know.
Than take that cold shower.
We do. Because guess what? What's on a sick day? You don't have to go to work.
That's what I'm saying. They're like, oh, prevent sick days by taking a cold shower. Hate yourself so much that you're gonna freeze in a shower so that you can go to work more. What is going on? Who wrote this? Who put out this study?
The bosses.
Yeah, the bosses. We need everybody to start taking cold showers at home so you can take fewer work days or fewer sick days. Yeah. No. No.
Thank you very much. I don't know why I actually stopped doing the cold plunge thing.
Because I really was you hate being cold.
I hate being cold. I was so cold last night.
Why were you cold last night?
It was nice. No, it when I first got into climbed into bed and it was cold in the bed.
You said your pillow was freezing cold.
Yeah.
This pillow's freezing cold.
Yeah. And then I'm shivering, and you go, and there's no way it can be that
it's not that cold.
It's not like you're sleeping out in 20 degree weather. Felt like it.
No, not even close. It's like 67, 68 or something in the house, and you're like shivering. Yeah.
It was cold. I was so cold.
You're The coldest pillow in town. This thing's made of ice blocks.
What anyway, if you want to take fewer sick days at work, I got a cure for you.
Yeah, a cold shower. No thanks.
Do you know why we have election day on a random Tuesday in November?
Okay, I don't think I do.
Let me tell you.
Why? Because here's would it be more convenient a different day? I don't know the answer to that.
Well, it dates back to when farmers.
It all goes back to farmers. Okay.
Um, and it was they established an official presidential election in 1845.
And back then it was mostly agricultural. The country was. Sure.
Early November was convenient because the planting, growing, and harvesting seasons were mostly finished.
Uh-huh.
And the winter weather hadn't made traveling difficult yet.
I see.
Tuesday worked best with everyone's schedule because you had to travel by foot, horseback, or wagon. Sunday was reserved for church.
Sure. And rest.
So Monday could be used for traveling.
I see.
And since Wednesday was traditionally market day in a lot of towns.
Ah.
Tuesday will vote Tuesday. Was the day.
You can travel Monday, you vote Tuesday, you travel back after you vote, and then you have your market on the show.
And then you got market day.
And interesting.
The reason it's specifically the Tuesday after the first Monday.
Yeah.
Means that it guarantees that election day never falls on November 1st, which is often reserved for court business on the county level.
Oh. So again, this is very agricultural based. How many of those systems are still in place today?
Well, I always go to the market on Wednesday.
No. Come on. That's not what I mean. Come on, dude. What? Well, you know, me and my market Wednesday. Gotta take the hogs down. What are you? Crazy. What I don't even know what to do with you. What I mean is is the first of the month still a big county.
I've no idea. I've no idea.
For uh for folks. Are we still?
I don't know.
Okay.
Because I feel like there's a lot of systems that were put in place, and and there's a lot of systems that haven't necessarily evolved with the times. Um, and that's where people get into the arguments about like time change, for example. And they go, Yeah, yeah, yeah. We need it. Like, we need the time change. And other people are like, it's dumb, I hate it, there's no point. And you're just naturally your decision about that is dependent upon sort of where you are, where you go like, it doesn't affect me enough for me to care to change time every every few months. Where then you have people who are like, no, no, no, this is a big deal because my day runs on this. You know what I'm saying? And
there's a lot of systems in in the world that are still around because they were made up in the 1800s.
And people have been like, well, that's just the way we've always done it. It's always been done this way.
We can't change it. I mean, why why change it now? It's worked. Ain't broke, don't fix it. That kind of stuff. So that's what I'm trying to say. Not that you go to the market on Wednesday.
I don't go to the on.
Wednesday. You don't say.
I also don't travel by foot, horseback, or wagon.
That's what I'm saying, too. Like a lot of this stuff was like it's designed around P. It takes people days to travel.
We want to give them time. Right.
We don't need that same system.
No, we don't. We could change it. But if you change it, people don't like change.
Oh, I'm fully aware.
Don't do a change very well.
Yeah. Well, don't change it then.
Don't go changing.
Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather have to put ranch dressing on every meal or
catching meal?
Every meal.
Or ketchup.
Or a ketchup. On your dessert.
No. Ranch on every meal.
Ew. I'm
gonna have to. I'm not putting ketchup on anything, especially delicious dessert.
You already said there was like tons of sugar in it already. So it just is like a glaze. Like a tomato glaze.
Disgusting.
That's what we should call it from now on.
Yeah, it's tomato jelly, is what it is.
Tomato glaze. I'm going ketchup because I hate ranch.
Good ranch.
It doesn't, it doesn't matter.
The good kind of ranch.
It doesn't matter. on every meal. You're gonna put ranch on your needs, tacos.
You're gonna have to put a little a little dribble.
No, you have to put like a cup.
No.
Yes. I
don't put a cup of anything on anything.
Today you are.
No.
It's my rules.
Well, it's terrible.
Cover ranch on your spaghetti.
A little
bit. A
little bit of ranch in there is gonna be fine.
I'm not doing a cup.
I'm not doing a cup.
You have to.
No, I don't.
Okay, then you got ketchup, I guess.
No.
That's the rules.
No, no, it's not.
You have to you have to play by the rules.
And the rules are I chose ranch. And if I have a little two-ounce cup of ranch, I will use that. I'm not putting a whole cup of anything on anything.
On your spaghetti.
I will make two ounces of ranch work in any meal. I will hide it. And you wouldn't even know you were eating it. And neither will I. This is Sorancha, Sriracha Ranch.
Sorancha.
That's what I said. This is Chipotle Ranch. I'm just everything's gonna have an aeoli, but instead of mayo, I'm using ranch.
Ugh. No, it here's the other caveat. It can't be good ranch. It has to be Hidden Valley.
No. I'm using good
ranch and I'm hiding it as an Aeoli in everyone. You don't get to pick it.
I do. It's my would you rather this or that?
You never play by the rules.
I played by the rules.
I made appropriate adjustments to accommodate my decision. Of hidden valley ranch.
You have to wash the cup then.
Oh two days later.
That's right. Because
there's
I want that skin on there.
There's nothing worse smelling than old ranch.
Sitting on the counter growing that skin and you break through and there's fresh ranch underneath.
That's
that weird kind of clearish white yellow color.
So gross.
Yeah, well, make me eat a cup and see what happens. Would you rather this or that? Let's go ahead. Go ahead.
Yeah, you look at the sheel loud.
You looked at the sheet. You go, what are we talking about? Oh, you're gonna make fun of me. Yeah, go ahead. Say it. Say what you're gonna say.
Well, you were watching a video, and I go, What are you watching? The Oregon Trail?
It's what the kids say about my music. They go, Oh, let's go listen to more of dad's Oregon Trail music.
You have Oregon Trail music.
You absolutely have Oregon Trail music.
You do. It's fine. But I did ask both the kids because we were talking about our music playlist last week, and I asked both of them, would you rather listen to mine or dad's? And they both picked me until Beck came in and said, Okay, Emery, would you rather listen to me, mom's, or Beck's playlist? And she picked Beck. Yeah.
Um, he has songs I like.
I'm sorry. Who do you think gave him that musical education? Ugh.
Uh you
had some real Oregon trail music happening there. And it's not a bad thing. It just was very on the trail. Headed to market day.
You're crazy, man. I don't know. I don't know what to do with you. I like a band called Camp.
Yes. With two A's. Uh-huh.
Uh, they're from Ohio. Uh, but they make music that makes me happy
when I'm when I'm out exploring the wilderness.
Um I like uh a band called Top House.
I was gonna say them.
I actually like actually like some of their stuff too.
Um I like camp too. There's a lot of stuff of yours that I like.
Yeah.
But sometimes it does get a little bit. Let's get in the wagon. Let's go fishing.
Man. I don't know. It is let's go fishing music.
It is 100%.
Uh you've heard of the national parks. They're in the same uh realm as Top House, by the way. Uh, which is which is good. A lot of people know those guys. Um what are some of the other ones? Uh I and I don't have my playlist.
Xavier Rudd in front of me. Xavier Rudd's great. Uh the song Follow the Sun. Fantastic.
And you go, yeah. Oh, here goes this song I've heard a million times. Uh Head and the Heart are in this. O. C. Elliot is in here.
Oh, I like O.C. Elliot.
And I like the head in the heart. Lumineers are in this space.
I've never heard you play the House.
Hound mouth is in this space. Um trying to see who else.
Why can I make this thing? Houndmouth is.
Oh, you would know the song. Uh the song Sedona. You you know that song.
I play that song. Uh why do you suppose they said, let's call ourselves Houndmouth and not Mouth Hound?
Uh, because Houndmouth is better than Mouth Hound. Straight up. That's easy. That's a real easy one.
Do you think there was some debate?
No, I don't think there was. The bandmates where they were like, no, I like mouthhound. No, I don't think there was.
And then they had to do a draw to see which one they were gonna go with.
No.
I bet there was.
I I don't think there was. And then I would let me see. I'm just pulling this up really quick. Uh who else is in here? Um, Elephant Micah is good.
What?
Uh yep. Uh Lexi Murdoch is super good. Uh, there's a Lumineer song in there. Uh let's see. There's the Hound Mouth song.
Mouthhound.
Hollow Coves is good.
Oh, yeah, you do it.
Like that. Hollow Coves. This is these are all the bands, uh, paper kites uh that are in here. I mentioned O.C. Elliott already. There's all kinds of fun stuff in there. And you all call it Oregon Trail music.
It sounds a little like I'm playing the organ trail. That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying.
And Beck just says every vocalist needs to clear their throat and have a drink of water. Oh, 4-4 rhythm and a guy who needs to clear his throat. And I go, Yeah. So what? Everybody makes fun of my stuff.
Oh, Josh.
I'm gonna go cry myself to the to an afternoon nap.
Go turn on your sad music.
Yeah, I'm gonna go listen, listen to my audio book of a river runs through it with my sad music on.
And cry because you don't have
a cry because I don't have a brother. Wish I had a brother. Go fishing with. That's what.
I mean, I don't know what you're gonna cry about, but that could be one of the things.
Might.
Every everyone makes fun of me.
I don't have a brother.
You know, when I was little once, because I was the baby.
Oh.
And no one would play with me. They always thought I was just annoying. And so I'd say, hey, do you want to play? And then my brother would say, Yeah, let's play a game. I got a game.
52 card pickup.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So then once I I was crying to my dog in the backyard.
Oh no. You were telling Daniel all about it. Yeah. How'd that go?
I was like, no one wants to play with me. Everyone thinks I'm annoying.
And then the dog was like, I gotta go.
Then you're just sitting there by yourself. I'd rather go hang out with a cat.
Yeah, I'm gonna go smell something over here, I think. But it's been good chatting. All right, let's wrap up the show. Have a great rest of your Tuesday. Don't forget to get out and vote. It's very important. You have until eight o'clock tonight.
Pulls are open now. Uh if you don't know where to go to vote, you want more information, you can hit up vote idaho.gov and get all the details. That's the uh that's the place.
