Whistling past the graveyard?
Welcome to the Know the Difference Minute for Tuesday, June 27th.
Over the weekend, Russia’s hired thugs started to march on Moscow.
Putin said it was treason. But then he quickly agreed to a deal to not pursue criminal charges.
Who knows what Putin will do. He hasn’t been able to conquer his neighbor in the 16 months he’s waged an expensive battle. He’s actually lost territory he previously controlled. And now this.
The media seemed confused by the market action in the wake of this. Equities moved higher. Is it a case of investors whistling past the graveyard.
Maybe the market is being rational about it. Could this hasten the end to this war? Or, maybe investors are simply asking, “What does this really mean for the profitability of corporate America?” Answer: probably not much. There are always many things to fear, but often those fears don’t become reality.
