Lord Huron – Your Other Life

Facts
Diana Ross – Love Hangover (12” mix)
- It was yesterday in 1976 that The Boss Diana Ross’ first foray into disco went to #1.
- Both the artist and label head Barry Gordy had a mistrust of the nascent genre at the time. It was the first disco hit for Motown Records. The label was slow to embrace the sound, which was coming out of places like Miami, New York and Sweden - not Detroit. Hal Davis, a producer at the label, thought it was time to try disco, so he put together this track, which changes from the relaxed, slow, cool opening to a rapid uptempo groove.
- Producer Hal Davis went out of his way to set the right tone when she recorded her vocals. He scheduled the session at night, when Ross was most agreeable, and had engineer Russ Terrana set up flashing lights in the studio. Before sending her in, Davis had Ross relax with a drink of vodka (her libation of choice). When it came time to record, she kicked off her shoes and got into it, improvising and having a good time. At one point, Ross let out a laugh that made its way onto the record. The vocal was exactly what they were looking for.
Empress Of – Dance For You
- Empress Of has announced Save Me, a new five-song EP that’s out June 24. In addition to the previously shared title track, the EP features a new single called “Dance for You.”
- “I love the lyrics on this song,” Empress Of said in a statement. “I made this in Minneapolis with BJ Burton. It was freezing outside. I was in a cave-like studio in the snow literally dancing as I wrote this. ‘Surrender to me like this’ is a touching lyric for me because I’m not hurt over this person anymore. I’ve come out the other side.”
Sky Ferreira – Don’t Forget
- This is the 2nd single from the massively delayed Masochism LP, which was actually announced years ago but is finally due out soon. Out to rather mixed reviews, Pitchfork says that the song is despite the title rather forgettable, but as always we’ll let you be the judge of that.
MisterWives – Where Do We Go From Here?
- This is part of a double single just out, and the tunes are entitled "Easy" and "Where Do We Go From Here", the songs mark the launch of their new Photo Finish Records / Virgin Music imprint label Resilient Little Records.
- "Where Do We Go From Here" is a slight departure for the band sonically and lyrically. MisterWives further explains, "it's what happens when trust is broken and rather than running from the anger, fear and jealousy that comes with that, we made a 4 minute soundtrack for those complex and uncomfortable emotions."
Lord Huron – Your Other Life
- Last Friday Lord Huron shared the deluxe edition of their fourth album Long Lost. The new version includes two new songs, "Your Other Life" and "Ton Autre Vie," which share two different perspectives of the same concept. Although the track "Your Other Life" was recorded during the Long Lost sessions, it didn't make the album because vocalist and songwriter Ben Schneider wasn't pleased with its initial rendition as he'd originally envisioned a woman singing the song in French. So they asked Sarah Dugas to help their vision come to life. Thus, there you have it, or viola, as the band might want it stated.
Sorcha Richardson – Archie
- This is the first single to the upcoming 2nd studio album from the Irish singer-songwriter, still undelineated as to the details.
- Richardson says in a statement, “’Archie’ is a song about teenage hopes and dreams and about losing touch with the people who you once shared them with. I wrote the earliest version of it at a writing camp in the Spring of 2021 with some of my favourite Irish songwriters. It was the one song from the camp that I kept coming back to but I would have left it off the album if not for Alex Casnoff’s influence. He was a real guiding light with this one.”
- The album is expected “soon,” so we’ll keep an eye out.

Alfie Templemen - Mellow Moon

The Mexican-American singer-songwriter, known for music with a psychedelic kick, has shared his new song “Time Machine,” a dreamy rumination about what it would mean to teleport to the past and change the outcome of a relationship. Honestly if I had that power I'd be Ina much better spot right now.

Yerin Baek - Pisces
Baek Yerin unveiled her new single album “Pisces” along with the music video for the title track of the same name.“Pisces” is a modern rock song with sound that is reminiscent of the sea, and the lyrics express a message to those who stay by one’s side. A quite wholesome tune, don't you think?

Alfie Templemen - Mellow Moon 3.33
The debut album by Alfie Templeman was launched not with a lavish party but a gig built within the sandbox video game Minecraft – or “an immersive music festival in space”. Users were encouraged to take part in scavenger hunts in order to gain entry to a secret spaceship and hear extracts from the album. Today's song Mellow Moon is the title track and I'm just amazed the extent Alfie Templemen went with their debut.

Christian French - golden years2.50
Golden years is based around the feeling that your anywhere but the present. You're always some sort of stressed out trying to work towards that unquenchable "next thing" or trying to relive a good memory over and over again instead of allowing yourself to move on and make new ones. Now, I didn't sign up today to get critically ATTACKED by a song.

MUNA - Anything But Me 3.33
The last we heard from indie-pop trio MUNA was back in September, and That was just a hint of a whole new album on the horizon. Today, the group is back to announce self titled album MUNA, out in late June with their new single called “Anything But Me.”Anything But Me” is a song about leaving a partnership simply because it doesn’t feel right. It’s about trusting yourself and your instincts enough to walk away

Dept - Youth 2.26
The Korean singer songwriter Dept has released a 7 track Album called Love Affair. The album itself is inspired by a flame of an old and short but memorable personal encounter. Kozypop & Zingo - Bus Driver 2.0
We have another love song with us today. Bus Driver sung by both Korean Artists Kozypop and Zingo, is about the protagonist is head over heels in love, willing to be the driver to the destination of whever their lover is heading to. Obsessive much? Hahaha. I'm totally not jealous of a song.

Golden Alphabet - Crazy Pie
With each new song Brooklyn based roots band Golden Alphabet are delving even further into psychedelic rock. Their latest single, Crazy Pie, is a fuzzy garage-tinged song with a hint of surf, tons of reverb, and well-used feedback. The lyrics indicate confusion and uncoordinance, how it's a crazy pie, ready to be thrown.

DEHD - Bad Love
Over the course of their five albums since 2016, Chicago based trio, Dehd, have made what appears to be an easy transition from being the darling of the micro-blogs, to also being the darling of all the Mainstreams that use lots of big words. The band has come out with their newest album Blush Skies. Bad Love is the second track to the great album, and quality speaks for itself.

Katy J Pearson - Alligator
Katy J Pearson teases us With Alligator of their upcoming album Sound of The Morning. The date, unknown. Katy explains about the song saying, "I was having the worst morning ever; I was really stressed as I had a £500 electric bill that I had to pay. I burst into tears at the studio and from that feeling, the song just surfaced from all my anxieties. The lyrics are quite literal and were born from the idea of dissociation when experiencing anxiety." Very Raw, which I appreciate.

Stars - Palmistry
Canadian-born indie-band Stars are back with their ninth studio album, From Capelton Hill. Marked by the band's signature lush and vivid instrumentation, it comes to pass that Capelton Hill showcases everything that the group does best. Palmistry beings out their signature color. And For those who don't know, Palmistry means the study of reading star signs on your hands. What does your palm say?

Lostboy - Weight
Taking their name from the 1980’s film The Lost Boys, Lostboy's 5-track follow up, Love Among Angry People, has just been released, which is crammed full of fabulous infectious indie tunes, including today's song Weight. It was said that creating this new EP, it was different how everything just rolled off the tongue and no challenge was given. So I guess, pure talent?

Cabin - Whatever You Have
“Whatever You Have” is the fourth single from London-based artist Cabin, the alias of Adam McCabe. “This is a piece that embodies how I look at and approach creating music as an individual,” McCabe says. “That we now have the ability to create something far larger than ourselves, we should strive towards that." and I say we shall strive and thrive!
