The Floral CEO

In this episode, Jen shares all the details about the final workshop of the year: Floral Rockstar Retreat, happening August 16–18 on her family farm in Dennison, Minnesota. This is not just a floral workshop — it is a restorative, portfolio-building, creativity-fueling experience designed to help florists slow down, connect, create, and walk away with an upgraded body of work they can actually use.
After seeing how attendees used the images from previous workshops, Jen completely rethought and upgraded this experience. That means more intentional styling, more sets, more content, and more opportunities to leave with portfolio images that feel scroll-stopping and brand elevating.
The retreat begins Sunday evening with a welcome gathering on the farm featuring charcuterie, a custom cowboy hat bar, and s’mores if the weather cooperates. Monday includes a restorative yoga session, a beautifully styled Strawberry Fields-inspired lunch, hands-on floral design time building out the next day’s styled shoot, and a girls’ night out at a local restaurant.
The styled shoot itself is farm-to-table inspired, with a basket-filled ceremony installation, a richly layered green velvet head table, fruits and vegetables woven into the design, and miniature donkeys and cows incorporated into the imagery. Jen also shares that the vendor team is incredible, including Rachel L Photography, Grace Myler Media / The Wedding Edit for behind-the-scenes content, and Tim Thornburg Films.
This retreat is meant to feel peaceful, fun, and creatively energizing. It is also designed with florists’ schedules in mind, running Sunday through Tuesday so attendees can still work around weekend weddings.
In this episode, Jen talks about:
  • Why she upgraded the retreat experience
  • How the retreat is designed to build a stronger portfolio
  • What the Sunday welcome night includes
  • The restorative yoga and Strawberry Fields lunch experience
  • The farm-to-table styled shoot concept
  • What florists will create and photograph
  • The vendor team behind the retreat
  • Why the farm setting makes this experience so special
  • Travel logistics and why it is easy to attend even with weddings nearby
Key takeaway
Floral Rockstar Retreat is more than a workshop. It is a chance to recharge, connect with other florists, build an elevated portfolio, and experience creativity in a way that feels fun, inspiring, and restorative.

Hello, flower friends. It's been a while since I have talked about the workshops. Um, we did one workshop that was a business bouquets of branding, and then before that was, like, an installation rockstar, and the last workshop of the year is coming up, and so I wanted to... Because I, I honestly, guys, I just gave it a serious upgrade.

And, and I'm talking serious. Like, I have rethought after seeing people use the business bouquets and branding images. I really want you guys to have more for your portfolio, and so I retooled the workshop. Not only did I up the experience, but I upped the sets of photos and that you will get to use for your portfolio, and I'm so excited about it.

So I wanted to just walk you guys through the workshop experience, uh, because this workshop is going to be August 16th through the 18th on my family farm in Denison, Minnesota, which is about a forty-five minute drive from MSP Airport. There is a hotel that is, um, about twelve minutes away, so super close to the farm and not on a dirt road if you take the right roads.

Uh, it is going to be a, like, just relaxing, recharging, and restorative, like, you're gonna meet some amazing... We're gonna spend time together. We're gonna talk about pe- you know, each other's businesses and build a portfolio that is something that is going to be super fun to share. And I wanna talk about day one.

So day one, uh, this is a farm. And so we are going to welcome everybody on Sunday night and have, um, kind of like a meet and greet with charcuterie, and we're gonna have a cowboy hat bar, you guys. So, like, we're gonna make your own custom cowboy hat, and I have, like, all these fun things to... Flower things and dried flowers and ribbons and leather and pins and, uh, feathers, a million things to decorate hats.

I got all the branding tools if you wanna brand your business name or your name, whatever, into it, um, all the things. And then we're gonna have s'mores as long as the weather is in agreement, uh, and just get to know everybody that you're gonna be spending the next two days with. Then from there, uh, on Monday, we are going to be having a restorative kind of yoga session.

And, you know, this isn't something that, like, we're not going to CorePower. This is on a farm. It's gonna be relaxing. It's gonna be fun. And I am excited to just, like, connect and slow down for a minute and, you know, get in touch with our bodies, move our bodies a little bit. Uh, we are then, as part of the portfolio building, going to have, um, a amazing, I'm calling it Strawberry Fields inspired lunch, and it is going to be, like, one of the looks for your portfolio to walk away with It, it is gonna be so cute, you guys.

Um, red and white gingham pattern and then, um, tablecloths. And then, like, these cute, like, strawberry fields inspired centerpieces with, like, pops of light pink, um, bold green, um, lamps for the tables, and it's just, it's going to be adorable. Then, uh, we are going to get building everything for our styled shoot the next day, which is going to be, like, a farm-to-table inspired shoot For the ceremony, if you guys have seen those basket-inspired, uh, looks that have, like, a ton of different baskets with flowers spilling out of the baskets, we are going to be making an arch like that, um, which I'm super excited about.

It's gonna be a fun, different look, and kind of a scroll stopping in your portfolio. Uh, then we are going to, um, have a beautiful head table that is gonna be, like, green velvet linens, and just... I'm so excited. It's gonna be so beautiful. But we're actually going to eat at it that night, and a lot of times at a styled shoot, it's, like, super pretty and then everybody, like, just tears it down.

Uh, we are going to have a amazing dinner and, like, enjoy everybody's company and just have fun. And I'm, I'm so excited 'cause it's like I- I've never got to eat at one of my styled shoots', um, dinner tables, so I think that that's gonna be super fun. But I also... This look of this, like, green velvet, and it's gonna be greens and browns and, you know, ivory, taupe, um, flowers.

Like, think veggie roses, but we're gonna incorporate, like, asparagus, um, Brussels sprouts, like, all different fruits and veggies, like dark colored, like Kumato ta- uh, tomatoes, and just have this, like, totally natural but just it pops. We have beautiful brown glassware to go with it, and I'm, I'm excited t- to have this, you know, amazing meal with all of these amazing florists.

Um, oh, and then I forgot to mention, on Monday night, we're having girls' night out. So we are actually all going to go to a local bar/restaurant and just enjoy, like, have a girls' night out. When was the last time you had a girls' night out? Because I know that it's been forever, and I'm excited to just spend some time with you guys and, uh, connect and really learn about your businesses and soak up, like, the farm, you guys.

I, I... If you've been listening to the podcast for a while, you've heard me talk about this. The, the farm has changed my life. It is so peaceful, so calm And all the animals here are, like, so fun, and we're actually incorporating them into the styled shoot portion, which I'm really excited about as well. Uh, we're gonna have miniature donkeys and miniature cows i-in, in the shoot, and the model that we have is just stunningly beautiful.

And I have an amazing team of vendors. Rachel L. Photography is the photographer for the workshop. Um, we have a behind-the-scenes content creator with Grace, um, Myler Media, or The Wedding Edit is her, uh, wedding side of the business, and so we're gonna get, like, tons of amazing social content. Then we're also gonna get, um...

Tim Thornburg Films is coming. Uh, I mean, this, this workshop is going to be next level. It's gonna be so much fun. If you... You guys are gonna get a tour of the farm. You can go hug a mini cow if that's what you wanna do. If you're not a farm person, I totally get that. Like, it's still worth it coming, and you can just be like, "That's cute from afar," and that's totally cool with me.

Not everybody loves mini cows like I do, and I totally get it. But you have to check this out. Uh, I made it so that it is a Sunday through a Tuesday, so if you do have a wedding that weekend or the next weekend, you can still escape. There's no excuses. People are like, "Oh, I have a wedding." D- You can escape for that many days.

You can still pull off a wedding by getting the flowers on Wednesday or getting the flowers even on Thursday. And if your wedding is on Saturday, or even if it's on Sunday, you can just roll out afterwards. Um, the flight is a super easy flight into Minneapolis, and, um, the trip down here is basically down, like, a major highway, and it's, like, right off a major highway, so it's super easy to get to.

But I would love to see you here at Beck Acres for Floral Rockstar Retreat. It is going to be so much fun. I want you to go check out info at floralceo.com/workshop, or head to the show notes, and I'll definitely put information in the show notes as well. I would love to see you here in Minnesota, and you have an amazing flower-filled day, friend.
