Hey. Welcome back to your best t one d year ever. This is episode 19. It's the final clue. Yeah.
Neil:It's like the the end that we're like, oh my gosh. There's the surprise. This is this episode is all about what this challenge was really, really about. Today is March 28. I'm Neil Greathouse.
Neil:That is my name. Don't wear it out. And if you've got if you've got five minutes and you got time for this podcast, doesn't matter if you were, drinking a half gallon of sugar free syrup, which I would say I do not recommend. You are going to be on the toilet, my friend. Maybe you're just tying up loose ends for the week, or maybe you're realizing that this entire tracking challenge has felt a little bit like an adventure straight out of The Goonies.
Neil:I love that movie. Then think about it. Okay? We started this month with zero map, a whole lot of guesswork, no idea what we're gonna find. But as we kept going, like those clues, they start adding up, the pieces all start to make sense, and suddenly, we're not just wandering through the caves of diabetes confusion anymore.
Neil:One Eyed Willy, what? The Goonies. I love that movie. Okay. We're wrapping up this March challenge, actually next week on Monday, and we're just talking about some of our biggest takeaways from this.
Neil:And and I I wanna I wanna start this episode off here. You're gonna hear some recurring themes from me as as we go through these episodes. My goal with this is to help challenge you, but also encourage you. So some of this might be challenging, but some of you just may need somebody to say you're doing a good job. That's what this podcast is.
Neil:Man, if I had if I had somebody talking to me for five minutes about something I'm wrestling with, something I'm dealing with, and they encourage me and challenge me, heck yes. So, that's what I'm doing. I'm just in your corner. I've got your back, and I am here for you. So this challenge is really it wasn't just about tracking.
Neil:Like, sometimes it can get annoying. Right? Like, we we forgot some days. We might even consider bailing. Remember when Chunk tried to escape the Fratellis?
Neil:You you probably don't even remember this in the movie. Chunk, beloved Chunk and Goonies. Okay. Here here's what here's what actually happened. We found patterns that are that are hiding in in plain sight.
Neil:We figured out what actually influenced our blood sugar, not just what we assumed. Because when we assume, we make never mind. We build instincts that will stick with us a lot longer after this challenge ends, and those instincts are what this is really all about. So now that we've got this map, how do we make sure we don't lose it? One, we gotta keep the big wins in mind.
Neil:Like, if you know a pattern now, use it, and you don't even need to track as much. It should be instinct. It should be intuition. You don't have to write every single thing down to remember what works. And then maybe you need a reset.
Neil:Maybe maybe just track when you need to reset everything. If your blood sugar start feeling random again, track for a few days. It's like pulling out that that map when we need a refresher. My parents always used to have, like, an actual atlas. Like, how did we even live in a world where you had to pull out a paper map?
Neil:Oh my gosh. Like, the stone ages. Step number three, trust that we're way more equipped than before. Like just, this is about building some confidence. Right?
Neil:We're not guessing anymore. We're walking away knowing how to make better decisions with managing our type one diabetes. This is not about logging every detail forever. It's about us paying attention. When we understand our numbers and our patterns, the less power they have over us.
Neil:And so many of us, myself included, have felt powerless because we're like, well, I guess diabetes is gonna diabetes. And yes, it will, but it doesn't have to kick us around. Right? It doesn't need to bully us. It has less power over us when we understand what's actually happening.
Neil:So if you're walking away from this this monthly challenge feeling even a little bit more confident, that means you won. You won the challenge because you're not doing a bad job, you're doing a difficult job, and now we've got way more tools to handle it.
