Shalom and a warm welcome to all! Today we delve into a passage from the Tanya that touches the core of our daily struggles and triumphs.
In the Tanya, Likutei Amarim, chapter 27, the Alter Rebbe provides a powerful insight into the nature of our internal battles. He explains that every person has two souls: an animal soul and a divine soul. Each soul desires to lead and influence the individual in its own way, akin to two kings warring over a city, which is the body and its limbs.
The animal soul is not inherently evil; it is simply concerned with the physical and mundane aspects of life. It seeks comfort, pleasure, and is driven by instinct. In contrast, the divine soul yearns for spirituality, godliness, and the fulfillment of mitzvot.
The takeaway from this teaching is profound for our daily lives. We often face decisions that pit immediate gratification against our higher values. The Tanya reminds us that this struggle is not only normal but an essential part of our spiritual journey. The key is not to become disheartened by the struggle, but to embrace it as an opportunity for growth.
Each time we choose the path of the divine soul, aligning our actions with our values and commandments, we strengthen our inner holiness. It's important to remember that the ultimate victory is not in vanquishing the animal soul, but in harnessing its energies for positive pursuits. By doing so, we elevate our mundane experiences and infuse them with spirituality.
As we go about our days, let's keep this teaching in mind. Let us be mindful of the dynamic interplay between these two forces within us, and let us make choices that reflect our divine essence.
Thank you for joining, and may this insight enhance and elevate your day.
