Punchy, actionable insights and tips to make the life of the team leader a breeze.
[00:00:00] Pia: Agile is a team sport and your team needs to be in shape to make it work. So this week we're taking a look at how you can make sure that the human side is supporting this approach to execution. I'm Pia.
[00:00:12] Dan: And I'm Dan, and this is Squadify Connects. So how do you create the conditions for Agile? Well, the good news is that you don't need to learn anything new to do that because the three Cs that we've seen several times already, the conditions for team success works perfectly for this.
[00:00:30] You know, it's easier to think of agile only as a process sort of part of climate. Those sprints, retros, sprint planning, all the other ceremonies, et cetera, can make agile look a little bit mechanical, but in reality, it will succeed or fail on, on all of the factors in the three css.
[00:00:48] Pia: That's very true. So let's take a quick tour across those three C's. So first, clarity and as usual, purpose will need to be strongly felt and there needs to be. A long-term goal to guide the team, even if that changes sometimes based on learnings. Roles are really key too, and you should appoint a scrum master to organize things, run the standups, and then you should also have a product owner who sets the direction, has a deep understanding of stakeholder needs.
[00:01:17] Dan: Yeah, and there's loads of resources on what these roles involve online. Just gonna have a little search and you can really get yourself up to speed in climate. We have strong processes as we've discussed, but you need to also back these up with resources. Experimentation can take quite a lot of effort and investment of time, so make sure that's covered.
[00:01:37] The culture as part of climate is also crucial. There needs to be psychological safety in particular if the team is to be able to genuinely learn together. But you also need a culture of discipline to work in this way so that people will stick with the way of working. And so your culture really needs some attention.
[00:01:56] Pia: So finally, then competence, which of course is the skills for Agile, knowing how to use a Kanban, for example, or write cards with. Clear definition of done. That's a really key one. Experimenting, et cetera. But the mindsets and behaviors are also just as equally important. Curiosity and an ability to learn with others and to let our ideas go, not to hang onto them too long if needed, is all essential.
[00:02:24] Dan: Now there's a full guide to the three Cs for Agile in the show notes this week. So, um, in the coming week, review it for yourself and also with your team to see where your strengths are as a team and where you could improve. What's the one thing you could all do a bit better, and how do you maintain a focus on that so that it definitely improves.
[00:02:43] Of course, if you're actually using Squadify, you could launch another round. The questions inside Squadify provide a complete view of the three Cs, and they're actually built around the needs of Agile teams.
[00:02:53] Pia: So that's it. And it brings our miniseries on Agile to a close. Hope you've got some real value out of that, and contact us if you need any more information. And next week we'll be looking at leading change and how you can really help your team to leave the comfort of the present behind and navigate the difficult transition to a new state. So in between, enjoy experimenting and have a great week.
