What is W3GMS Thursday Night Roundtable?

Every Thursday evening at 8pm the Crew of 146.985 W3GMS/R get together on air to host a weekly informal net with varying hosts and topics

985 roundtable. I'm Chuck in A3CW located in
beautiful edge of town, Parksburg, Pennsylvania.

Host for tonight's roundtable it seems. We meet
every Thursday evening at 8pm-ish on the W3GMS

repeater. W3GMS repeater. 146.985 MHz. PL tone
is 100Hz and for tone squelch on receive use

94.8. Take a look at the repeater website located
at www.w3gmsrepeater.com. And besides the roundtable,

this repeater also hosts the 95 Workbench on
Monday evenings at 8 p.m. The Workbench focuses

on answering technical questions as well as
exploring topics related to setting up and

operating your station. Newcomers are very welcome
on the Workbench and here. and encourage to

check in. And if you can't stay long, feel free
to call in during the short time check ins

at the beginning of roundtable. Our discussions
are informal, passing the mic around in the

order in which stations call in. So I encourage
you to note who checks in right after you,

as in write it down. So you'll be able to turn
the mic over to that station when you finish

your comments. We usually begin with a question
as a discussion starter. Ron, I hope you'll

come up with one in the meantime, because I
don't have one. You can answer that if you

wish or comment about other subjects as well.
If you have any suggestions or questions about

the roundtable, please contact Phil, KC3CIB
or Jim AF3Z. Both are good on QRZ.com. Be

aware that on occasion the repeater experiences
intermod interference. Please run maximum power

or be prepared to check in digitally through
EchoLink or All-Star. We want to hear you.

To be able to use EchoLink and All-Star on 985,
you need to register with us. Directions for

doing so can be found on the website, w3gmsrepeater.com.
Also, when an intermod is present, before starting

a transmission, give a short call. Am I getting
it okay? Once I confirm that, then you can

share your longer comments. And don't be too
quick to talk. Pause a couple of seconds before

heading to press to talk. Well, yeah, pause
a couple of seconds. Before hitting the press

to talk switch to see if anybody's trying to
break in, it's good repeater etiquette and

the pauses are especially helpful to those on
All Star or Echo Link. Now when you do click

to push to talk, wait a second before starting
to talk, otherwise we're gonna miss the front

end of your call. We don't wanna miss what
you have to say first. It takes a moment for

the repeater to process your PL tone. Also,
the repeater has a three minute timer. If you

talk more than three minutes without letting
up on your mic button, the repeater completely

locks up until you release your push to talk
switch. So nobody else can get in either.

So every two or three minutes, release the mic
button just for a moment like this. And then

you can continue. Ron, what do you have for
a question? This is NA3CW. What's up? This

is a great team effort. I'm actually enjoying
this. NA3CW, WA3, VEE. Probably the quickest

question I ever came up with. So let's see.
Question for tonight. And I will keep a log

to a list of stations here in case you want
me to chime in anytime for sure and help you

out, Definitely. You're going to make a...
This is going to be a habit running around

table. It's unusual. Anyway, okay, folks. Question
for this evening. What is your favorite season?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but it's
been a long time. What's your favorite season

and why? And what are a couple of your favorite
summertime activities? Including radio, but

we want to hear other stuff as well. So favorite
season and why? And what are your most,

keep it maybe a couple, most favorite summertime
activities? Including but not necessarily

including radio. N-A-3C-W, W-A-3-V-E-E. Thank
you Ron, that's a good question. We'll start

now with short time check ins. Short time digital
stations using EchoLink or All Star. will leave

long pauses to make it easier for you to check
in. Short time digital stations, please call

in now. This is NA3CW.

This is W1RC Grocery Store Mobile. Over.

Gotcha Mike.

W3KZG short time check in.

Any other digital stations using EchoLink or
All-Star for short time, please call now.

Did you get me, Chuck? W3KZG? I Got you written
right down here, Scott.

Okay. Digital ORRF station, short time. Please
call in a 3CW.

Lab double W3JAM.

We had a triple.

KB3 said UV, Adam, and somebody in West Bradford
and W3JAM. Who's in West Bradford?

Okay, any more short time stations?

Okay, on the short time list, got W1RC, Mr.
Mike, we Scott, W3KZG, we KB3ZUV, Adam,

and Jeff, W3JAM. So, Mr. Mike, what's your
favorite season, and what couple things do

like to do? W1RC, this is NA3CW, and the roundtable.

Yeah, very.

Okay, very good. Hello Chuck and to the Thursday
night roundtable on the W3 GMS. 985 repeater.

Well, my favorite season always has been the
the springtime. And one of the main reasons

of that is that's when the hamfests are up here.
We have a lot of hamfests in the spring. And

favorite activities going to hamfests and running
them. Well, that was. when I did it. Now it's

just going to them and watching everybody have
a good time. there you have it. I'm in a grocery

store. Our circulars up here in two of our
stores end on Thursday night. So my wife usually

leaves all the getting ready and making the
list and everything and scouring the circulars

till Thursday. But here we are picking up all
the stuff. So there you go. I will be out

for a while but I'll check in when I get home
if you leave a space for me to get in because

I'm in on All-Star and I need a space to get
in but I'm turning it back over to net control

to continue the shopping. This W1RC shopping
cart mobile in Salem, Massachusetts.

Thank you Mike. Scott, W3KZG, NA3CW.

This W3KZG, and Chuck I heard you had to do
the work bench and now you gotta do this one.

Oh well, thanks for stepping up. You surely
are ready for it. Favorite season? I've got

to two favorite seasons, spring and fall. Anytime
it's in the 70s is my season. Favorite activities?

Working in the garage. working on cars, mechanical,
electronic, lately I've been doing woodwork.

But yeah, pretty much anything that needs done,
I enjoy doing it. Right now I'm sitting in

the backyard with the dog playing catch and
watching the southwestern flying airplanes

that go over my house about every seven minutes.
And they range between seven to about 12,000.

feet altitude so they're still pretty big and
you can make them out and just like watch them

go over. Back over to you Chuck, I'm gonna make
this a one and done but I'll listen out guys,

everybody have a good night and this will be
W3KZG and I'll be saying good night.

playing with the dog and while we sit out on
the deck we do the same thing watching the

air. just go over us first. So Adam, speak
to us. KB3 is at UV, NH3CW.

Good evening.

Okay, Adam, very good. KB3ZUV, Thursday Night
Roundtable. W3JAM and Studio B. It's actually

a nice night.

up here in northern Chester County and it's
pretty decent temperature wise. Thinking I

might want to repair one of the fence posts
I put off for the last couple of days. Might

be a good time to do some digging and not sweat
too badly or unload some more hay from the

trailer, from the hay run we made the other
day. I don't want to get carried away. I

would have said summer hands down, would have.
Because I usually, I always enjoyed summer.

I it anymore, not with the temperatures and
humidity and just generally the discomfort

one experiences anymore here in the mid-Atlantic
in summertime. Just unbearable at times.

So summer's off the table. I do like radio
propagation in the summer with obviously

the sporadic e-maxima. Yeah, there is one in
December, or January, the winter minimax.

I've enjoyed summer, late spring, summer
before it kind of transitioned back to the

winter propagation modes. Always enjoyed that
radio-wise. But the reason I like summer is

because it typically, we typically, or I have
typically always taken vacations in the summer

months with a few exceptions. Of course, now
that I'm retired, that's not as much of a

mandate anymore. could take, in theory, every
day's a vacation, but in reality... A lot

of work on the farm and it's not so much. But
summer's off the table so I'd have to say

favorite season would either be spring or fall
and I can't decide which carries more weight

in my book right now. So spring and fall would
be the top of the list for me, just because

the temperatures are more pleasant generally
and outdoor activities are more pleasant,

whether it be hiking, walking, both of which
my wife and I would like to start doing a lot

more. We started back walking a lot of the
local trails here and stuff in the township

and I even had my... got both of our Trek
bikes rehauled or overhauled, both, well, a

couple years ago and then again earlier this
year in anticipation of doing more bike riding

on the trails, both here locally and maybe a
little further away. So I think fall and spring

would be definitely the time that I would prefer
to be doing that. So we'll see if we can get

back on the wagon, so to speak, or the bike
and also the horse, Adam, to your point. We

have been riding again, not just handling young
horses and working with young horses, but actually

riding under saddle, back into more of an
English style or hunter, hunt seat, equitation

kind of riding. And I'd like to start back
into that again. We did start up last fall

and then when the weather got too hot, I
said, that's it. Let's... Let's pause until

we got to the springtime. And of course, we
were so busy with taking care of some additional

horses here on the farm, we couldn't get back
to it. So come this fall, I hope we do.

And I'd like to anyway. And so that'll be
an activity along with back on the bikes

and also more walking and stuff. And maybe that
vacation that we haven't taken yet, because

we haven't. We haven't gone anywhere this summer.
We haven't done anything. Normally we go to

the shore, Jersey shore, which I really like,
Cape May in particular. But we've not done

that. Or Maine. We've been good. We have been
in a habit of alternating between Bar Harbor

and Maine and the Jersey shore. And we kind
of got away from that. Last year we were at

the Jersey shore. We haven't done anything this
year. We just, with the extra horse work we

have right now, we really can't do anything
until... The guests that we have are returned

to their home farm, which may be by the end
of this month, I think. There's a couple of

horse shows coming up. And I think after the
pony finals in Kentucky, think the place

that we're watching their horses will be in
a position to take a few back. So we'll see.

So I think that's my answer, my story, and
I'm sticking to it. So with that I will turn

the microphone back to Chuck. Thanks for picking
up the roundtable by the way Chuck. And I

will listen out and once I QRT out here in
Studio B I will transition into Studio A and

probably fire up my All-Star node and listen
out on All-Star but I won't be around for

the full pull-up version. NA-3CW to take it.
Thursday Night Roundtable. From Studio B,

here is W3JAM.

Thank you, Jeff, W3JAM, NA-3CW. see Intermod
is among us. Do we have any other last minute

short timers? Please call NA-3CW.

Okay, nothing heard. We will now take regular
check-ins from those who have more time to

stick around. We'll take digital stations first
using EchoLink or All-Star. Regular check-ins

for digital stations, please call NA3CW.

Whiskey 8, Charlie Romeo Whiskey, CR.

Okay, I think that's long enough. Gotcha CR.
And RF and everybody, for the long time,

for the roundtable, please call on A3CW.

Charlie 3 Oscar Oscar Kelo

WA3 King Fox Tango WA3 Kentucky Fried Turkey

AC3, SQI, Kilo Charlie 3, Sierra Quebec, India.

Alpha, Foxtrot 3 Zulu.

Okay, last call for any long-term check-ins,
either digital or RF, for the 985 roundtable.

Please call on A3CW.

Okay, I got them all, I guess. Here's the list,
please note who comes after you. Luke, find

your pencil. So, starting with CR, W-H-C-R-W.
We've got Ron, W-A-3-V-E-E, followed by W-3-G-M-S-Joe.

Followed by Luke, KC3SCY. Followed by Mr.
Bill, KC-300K. John, WA3KFT, Wayne, KC3,

SQI, and the tail gutter so far is AF3Z. Last
call for the roundtable. Please call in A3CW.

Okay, to review Ron's question, what is your
favorite season and why? And what one or

two things do you like to do during your favorite
season? So, we'll start off with CR, W8CRW

in the round table. This is NA3CW.

Thank you, Chuck, for taking the roundtable
and the workbench this week. You're doing yeoman's

work, yeoman's work. Let's see. Spring and
fall are my favorites. And I like spring

and fall. You don't need heat. You don't need
air conditioning. It's very pleasant to work

outside. Summer, it comes in second. But I
was outside yesterday and today. And after

about 15 minutes working outside yesterday and
today I was so drenched with sweat. So this

is not the time of year to work outside. But
those are the things I like to do. I like the

pleasant weather for just being outside. Get
some fresh air, get the sunshine, and all the

rest of that. With that, let's go to Ron, W-A-3-V-E-E,
W-H-C-R-W.

Very good CR. Thank you so much. WACRW and the
Thursday night roundtable. WA3VE. Kind of

fun making this a team approach tonight. This
is great. Chuck, thanks for picking it up.

I was fumbling around here trying to find my
tele, the teleprompter, pre-ramble of that

term as I said a million times. But you beat
me to the punch. So probably would have been

another minute before I'd... I could get ready,
but thanks for doing it, thanks for hopping

in. And I do not mind being put on the spot
like that, that's not a problem at all. Fortunately,

eight cups of coffee I probably had this morning
are still, 7.9 by now, but still making the

brain at least work a little bit. I could come
up with a question pretty quickly. Anyway,

just a couple things here before I answer the
questions, but... I sent Joe and George,

WA3LVR, the World Coveted link to all 347
photographs and videos of prep, field day

itself, and wrap up. I'm sure you'll be seeing
that sooner or later in an inbox near you.

So definitely a great... great time going
through the photographs. Sorry it took a little

bit, but there's a lot of, I had to consolidate
from several people, a couple of whom are here

on the work bench, or the round table tonight.
So many thanks for those who contributed photographs

to add to my stack. And of course videos also.
So just a really fun event. I of relived it

going through the photographs. Also, quickly,
FlightAware and FlightRadar are two sites.

And, Adam, I'm surprised you do not see them
coming over. They should be a little bit north

of you because what they do out of Philadelphia
is they spot on the Modena. And CR is a pilot,

so feel free to correct me on this. But they
spot on the Modena VOR out in the field there.

There's a Vortax standby. They, uh, that's
the first vector that they usually do when

they're flying across the country to the west.
So that would be in Coatesville. them all

the time as I'm riding on the trail. And also,
uh, Jeff, if you're listening, if you ever

want to go for a ride on either Schuylkill River
Trail or the Chester Valley Trail, bring me

up. I'll be, I'll be delighted to join you.
I've got to get out there again, like Adam

said, to get out and get a lot more exercise.
So anyway, with that, um, question. My question.

So favorite season, probably fall of the year.
It's a little chill in the air. You don't have

as much, certainly not. You're starting to get
rid of the heat and humidity starts to die

down a bit. It does get a little damp, little
rainy towards November-ish, but still favorite

time of the year. Always loved fall. And that's
the time of the year that I look to doing A

mixture of indoor and outdoor activities where
put a light jacket on and some workout clothes

and get out on the bike and do some really,
really, really good cycling and stuff. Spring

is a close second. Winter is fourth. Although
I can certainly tolerate it, it's not a problem.

You can always put on more layers. I've been
out in 24 degree weather before. That was

years ago, so at least I could say I did it
once. But in any event, summer is probably

third. I spent a lot of time in air conditioning.
It's a very cool 67 degrees down here in the

VEE shack right now. So that's pretty much
it. Mostly outdoor, I'm an outdoors person,

like to move around, like to travel around
quite a bit. So always curious about, what's

over there? What's that like over there? I haven't
checked that out yet, let's go see that. And

no problem actually moving around. So getting
out doing drives and also getting out in the

woods, getting out on trails, things like that,
some of my favorite activities. So Joe, what

are yours? W3GMS and the group WA3ZEE. Okay,
very good. WA3 Victor Echo Echo in the 146.985

Thursday night roundtable, W3GMS. First off,
thank you Chuck for picking it up tonight.

Martha got a hold of Greg pretty quickly, but
he was still at work with lots and lots of

issues and problems to work on. So he was just
fully focused on that and missed his hosting

duties. but he certainly sends his apologies
and I'm sure he'll pick up another person's

slot. And talking about picking up another
person's slot, Luke and I did not host when

we were scheduled to host, so Chuck picked
that up. Chuck, let me know when you want

me to host it. I'll become more than happy
to take one of your host slots. Luke's gonna

be gone for a few weeks on mission trip and...
down in Horseshoe, I think it's a mission

trip first, and then Horseshoe. So, you know,
maybe like three weeks out we can dial Luke

in as the host and Mia as his alternate host
to take care of when he turns the lights out.

Although I think he has some extended privileges
during the summer. So he may be able to stay

in for both rounds, I don't know. Okay, directly
to the question. Probably a lot of people

know how I'll answer this, but winter is my
favorite season. I love winter. I find the

winters here are not as cold as they used to
be, so it's not bad working outside. The only

thing I do not like about winter is if it's
windy. If it's really windy and cold, no good.

I also enjoy spring and fall very much. maybe
a little bit more towards fall because I'm

looking forward to winter. that's that spring
sense. Spring sense tends to be rainy and

we seem to jump right in from spring and do
ungodly hot warm humid conditions on the

summer that I don't like that. Projects this
summer. Well, we're inching our way along

with wonderful progress on the GMS tower. And
we're going to get some work done next weekend.

Chuck and Bill has agreed to come over. And
we're moving along. There's not a lot that

needs to be done. So the weather forecast
looks good in the 80s. And we'll do a morning

session. So I don't think we'll have bad temperatures
to work in. So it's really getting very, very

close. But, you know, small details. Great
week. I've had Luke over here twice. think

Monday and Tuesday we had a wonderful mentoring
session and a great time working on his super

duper riser assembly. So it's getting there.
As everything we know it takes time. So dot

in the i's, cross in the t's and proceeding
forward with that. So Luke, over to you. KC3

SCY. The CW guy now. W3 GMS. KC3 SC1. And
Chuck, thanks for picking it up tonight. I'll

get right to the question. Favorite season?
I have very similar opinions to Joe. I'd say

probably winter's my favorite. And kind of also,
like Joe said, it's fine until it gets windy,

because then when it's windy, it just takes
all the cold air and just... it right through

your clothes and then I'm freezing and close
seconds are probably spring and They're probably

tied for me because...

This is very nois-

You said I'm. service.

Yeah, not, haven't been too busy. I've been
mainly working on CW and I was over at Joe's

house and we're building a,

Anyways, it's working out pretty good. I'll
turn it over to KC3OOK. This is KC3SCY.

KC3SKY, KC3OOK. Thanks Luke and Chuck. Thanks
for taking the chair again tonight. favorite

season. used to be spring and fall. Maybe
I lean a little more towards.

anymore.

besides radio.

And then late.

and yes, gardening, and I am harvesting out
of the garden. are ready, so is the lettuce.

So I'm cutting my way through the rows at
this point, but it's growing faster than I

can eat it.

Speaking of rabbits, I haven't seen any lately.
Now, maybe it's because my next door neighbor

has a couple of cats. And I have not seen
any rabbits in the yard, let alone in my

garden. So, great for that. But field day
is a big activity for me. And in the winter,

it's the January VHF contest. I haven't missed
either one of those for over 50 years. I've

been in the January VHF contest as well as field
day for more than 50 years now. enjoy doing

that and still collecting QSL cards. I'm
still talking to people that I've never talked

to before. Mind you, I do have three card file
boxes of three by five cards of people that

I have talked to. There's still space in all
three of the boxes, but we're filling them

up. And I certainly enjoy getting paper QSL
cards. Some fellows want to do everything

electronically. And I'm not of that bent. Yes,
I have a computer, but it's nowhere near the

radio. So we use it for email. We use it to
type up documents and so forth. And look up

on QRZ. But otherwise, it is well separated
from the radio equipment and what have you.

We're poking around some of the old stuff that
we have and rediscovering and so forth of

some of the things that we had stashed away
and we're moving things around and oh my goodness,

I forgot I had that. And Joe, I wanna send
you a list of my collection. It's probably

95 % correct. There might be a few things that
I didn't. didn't make the list. There might

be something that's on the list that I got rid
of, I don't know. But I will send you the

list for your perousal. C3SQI from WA3 Kentucky
Fried Turkey.

Okay, thank you, Joan. WA3KFT. This is KC3SQI.
My favorite seasons would be spring and fall.

Spring fishing season, the striper run,
and everything. And you can get out and...

cool enough so that you don't burn yourself
to death on the water. And fall is, you

know, better fishing before the winter sets
in and also leaves. So those would be my two

favorites. for seasons, but winter, growing
up in the Colorado Rockies, 9,000 foot elevation,

where you had nine to 11 months of snow,
I got my fill of that, so thank you. Used to

love it, don't anymore. If I gotta move it,
I don't want it. So, on that. And favorite

activities for the summer. Fishing. working
on my antennas and masks outside if it's

not too hot. just kind of taking it easy and
not doing much of anything, just whenever

I feel like it. So, starting to get the mast
put together and up. It's up for the first

time and trying to do some checking out of
new antennas and things, but it's a little

hard to do when the compressor on your HVAC
system takes out the entire 10 meter band

and that's the antenna you've got up. Okay,
with that we'll turn it over to Jim, AF3Z.

This is KC3SQI.

Okay, thank you very much Wayne. And thank you
to Chuck and to Ron. I was sitting out here

working on email, all of a I noticed it was
8.05, so I came in and turned on the rig and

there you were. Chuck, thank you very much.
I thought, oh my goodness, Chuck's got it again.

So I appreciate your jumping in there. And,
excuse me. Yes, summer is not my favorite season.

probably my least favorite. And for reasons
others have said, the temperature is too hot

even though I'm minding it little less I think
in my experienced level of life here. anyway,

summer's not my favorite. I would be like the
others, spring and fall. And I like both of

those times especially. There's something about
the fall. as it gets kind of brisk and football

season and that kind of thing. That may be
number one, depending on what I'm doing. And

whether we're talking about my favorite seasons
or summer, my favorite things to do are still

kind of similar. I enjoy, as you guys know,
number of you do anyway, I enjoy getting out

and camping and hiking and that's also a radio
activity. Going camping and I haven't done

much radio work, radio operating with hiking
lately, but. Anyway, I do enjoy getting out

and doing that, especially QRP, but not even
limited just to that.

And uh... In my last couple years I've started
enjoying playing golf more, getting to play

golf more often. I'm not good but I enjoy getting
out to do it so that's a favorite activity

and all three of those things would be much
more favorite in fall weather than in summer

weather. So there you go. And I'm not a, somebody
talked about not being a beach and summer person

that way and that's me as well. But I do like
getting to the shore and walking to beach but

again fall and spring are much better times
for that. avoid some of the summer crowds and

everything. So that's my responses. it seems
to there's something else I wanted to say,

but I'm not sure what. So back to you there,
Chuck, and thank you again very, very much.

N-A-3C-W-A-F-3Z.

My pleasure Jim. Even if I'm not on I still
keep all the lists and that sort of thing,

just have it. Oh so AF3Z and A3CW. So do
we have any late check-ins before we go to

round two? Either EchoLink or All Star or RF.
Please call A3CW and I'll wait a while.

Okay, it's been a while. Where's Leon? Leon
and Gene. Oh well. Sell off the back of the

bus. I'm gonna give them my answer. I like
late summer and early... for two reasons. One

is all the harvesting, all the food is coming
in. We've already had the strawberries, but

the corn is still happening. Watermelons
and... green beans and everything, all this

stuff. I love driving through the area and watching
everything growing. Hang on.

I'm watching everything growing. I don't like
brown, brown dead ground. like things happening.

like having it warm enough to do things like
painting equipment or if I want to put a finish

on a piece of wood, it's not stinking hot and
it's not stinking cold.

So my favorite season is late summer, early
fall. I go to after Labor Day. Yeah, it's Labor

Day. When everybody else goes home, then I
go run down and go see Bob in 2HM and go

sailing on Little Lake Harbor Bay. And nobody's
there. We got the whole bay to ourselves.

I really enjoy that and I enjoy, believe it
or not, helping with the canning. We can corn,

green beans, strawberries. Sometimes pumpkin.

And applesauce, we do a lot of applesauce, we
like applesauce. And, yeah, it's a lot of work.

Excuse me. It's a lot of work, but I love seeing
it stacking up on the shelves so we can enjoy

it through the year. So there you go. I like
to sail and I like to watch that food come

in. The fresh, good stuff. for round two. We
got basically the same round up. got CR, got

Ron, Joe, Luke, I believe still there, Bill,
John, Wayne, and Jim. One last call. Are

you there, Leon? One last call before we start
round two at A3CW. 3MFB, late check in.

Okay, got you, Mike. And, uh, I don't know
if you were, did, uh, did you hear the question?

I was putting downstairs cleaning and what
not. Okay, Ron came over this, so what is your

favorite season and why? during said season,
are your one or two favorite activities? NA3CW.

question and good to hear you Chuck. Favorite
season? would have to say autumn. Autumn

is my favorite probably. I was born in October
and favorite thing to do I guess is Not have

to deal with hot weather. Maybe go under the
orchard picking apples, harvest season, harvest

vegetables, cooking. in the oven. in the oven
and making a nice meal with friends and family.

and just not having to sweat to death. You
know, the world keeps getting warmer and it's

just nice to get a little reprieve. Even though
I've noticed our summers, our summer temperatures,

I should say, kind of linger. And we used to
call it Indian summer and that Indian summer

is lingering here and there. But you know, we've
had, we've got some rain that we didn't have

the last couple of seasons. But we're getting
it in surplus. So I don't know. Autumn definitely,

winter second. I like the spring, but I know
what's coming in that summer, which I don't

particularly like anymore as an adult, I guess.
As a kid, maybe, I stopped playing and maybe

doing work and hanging with friends and family
and whatnot and not having the burden of adulthood

on your shoulders. But those days are gone.
And now... just prefer autumn. the sleep,

the rest of the world, of nature. Winter, don't
have to mow the lawn anymore. That's a nice

thing. And yeah, I miss the daylight in the
wintertime, but it's a long days, but it's

what it is. So great question, great question.
Back to Chuck, NA3CW, W3MFP.

Mike, good answer, W3MFB and A3CW. So, start
of round two, over to you CR, WHCRW and A3CW.

Very good, And you got quite a list of seasons.
I don't think anybody likes summer. And I

guess that's how it goes. It's just too hot.
And that's about all I have for tonight. I'll

be listening out. I'll say 73 to all. And let's
go to run, W-A-3-V-E-E, W-H-C-R-W.

WHCRW and the group WA3 VEE over here in Westchester.
All very good, just still going through some

of the photographs here on SmugMug actually
finally from field day. So if you get a chance

go in and Joe thank you so much for sending
out the link. So for everyone it should be

in your inbox all the photographs and videos
from our field day. Okay, a couple things

also here to finish out the question here. HamFest,
try to get back in sync with HamFest and things,

a lot of family stuff, carpentry and electrical
work and helping out family members here and

there and stuff like that. Kind of got in the
way of me checking out equipment. Oh, by the

way, Joe. You'll enjoy this. Yeah, I did hear
you last night talking to John. Yeah, the

pile is not getting any smaller over here.
And the reason is because, you know, I get

all motivated to clean. I pick up one resistor
that's on the floor and, oh, okay, that's enough

for about three hours. So, I had a chuckle.
when you mentioned that to John last night

on the radio, that was funny. But I didn't
jump in, I was going to wait until the first

opportunity to mention it. But no, seriously,
I started to get things really well checked

out and ready to sell or give away or whatever,
Amfest, 95ers, whatever, stand by. but then

we got hung up with all kinds of family stuff
and everything else. So anyway, that's coming.

So the pile has to get smaller at some point,
but yep, you're right. Your observation is

spot on, yeah, it hasn't gotten very much smaller
for sure. Almost like cleaning your room. You

pick up one sock and you're exhausted. anyway,
HamFest coming up. The Reading HamFest, and

I say again, thank Joe for, and, in absentia,
Steve, W-A-A-U-A-G up in Apoconos for kind

of mentioning that the Redding Hanfest has
been canceled. So anybody who's going to go

up there, I know there's a contingent of 98
fibers who were there last year. They had

a fire evidently in that old train, Heritage
Park train freight station. So. They're not

going to hold that. There's going to be some
kind of mini one on August 8th, but probably

for Reading Radio Club members only. Don't
know. Last thing, fall of year, yes. Woodshop.

Really great time to be working in the woodshop
with some really good wood, like cherry walnut,

stuff like that. Bill, can identify with that
for sure. It's just that kind of, it's just

that. great time of the year to be doing that.
I'd be walking through a sawmill like Hearns

down there or someplace else just really savoring
all the wood and looking forward to getting

in. It's just a nip in the air outside. You're
in a nice warm cozy wood shop making things.

Photography and sunsets, of course radio,
all tied in together. Fall of year is really

great for those things. And also propagation
starts to improve on the lower. low bands,

like 75 meters. Got to get on 160 at some point.
So hopefully one of the activities we can

do is to get up to the site and put a 160 antenna
up. At least that's one place where I can operate

the 160. I will say 73. I will listen out here
though, but this will be it for me. Joe, your

turn. W3GMS in a group. WA3VE.

after a suitable pause, WA3VE, W3GMS. And
I did not realize, because I was busy around

here, that you came up with a question for
tonight. So thank you so much for that. What

else? What else? What else? See, I don't think
too many people here like summer. I used

to like it when I was, when it wasn't so hot.
But we have these very prolonged, long, very

long heat spells. with extremely high humidity
and they're just not to my liking. So I guess

we beat that subject to death. I have plenty
of projects to do inside and out and fall

can be really, really nice because it can be
fairly long, especially with the warming trend

that's happening. And one of my fall projects
is to shift gears from inside and the other

projects and to work in my parts building. When
John KN3I came down maybe a month ago and

he gave me a whole like eight or nine hour
day and we worked out there it was cool. It

was before it got so blooming hot and we really,
really made a lot of progress. So the issue

is picture like a company, know, when the
purchasing agent orders parts and they come

into the loading dock. Well, and then they have
to get distributed to where they belong. Well,

my inventory, my incoming inventory exceeds
my time into putting the things where they

need to be. I have probably 150 Rubbermaid
bins in the GMS storage building and all

the inventory coming in, they're similar items,
but yet different. So they have to be taken

out of the incoming. at the mail room and put
in their associated bin. And then I end up

with a lot more space because there's no bins
on the floor and all like items are together.

That's one of my favorite sayings. All like
items are together. I work very well when

I work with someone to do that task because
like you, Ron, I'll look at something, I'll

say, oh my gosh, look at that. It could be some
part. And I'll sit there look at that. And

then I'll, if it's an antique part, I'll come
in and... just Googled up on the internet and

find some history of it. So I'm very, very inefficient.
I'm inefficient at a bunch of stuff, but my

two biggest inefficiencies are going through
radio papers, radio magazines, and radio parts.

Completely unlike my good wife Martha, who can
just focus on it, and as a result... I think

she's up to 17,000 vacuum tubes inventory.
I do not have the capacity.

lose a battery job.

Then when we get back from Horseshoe, we'll
then, I think I timed it out there for a second,

hopefully we'll get back on the riser and we
have very little to do and we'll be staining

and urethaning. So, KC3ScyW3GMS. 3SC1 Yes,
so like Joe said, we're going to get the riser

done pretty soon here. All we have to do is
cut vertical shelves for it and then assemble

everything on. We have most of the data is
for the vertical supports to go into all mounted.

And Joe, yeah, I think he timed it out for
a little bit near the end there. We heard

the last probably 10 words you're transferring.

Not too much else to add here, but what Ron
was saying, when you're trying to clean your

room, you pick up one thing and you say that's
enough. Today, my mom sent me down here to...

later and I'm.

It took me the whole day to...

again.

Anyways, over to KC3-OOK.

KC3SCY, KC3OOK.

do like the fission.

Any test.

KFT.

licensed for more than 50 years and active.
attending a lot of ham fest.

You'd a buyer. No, I'm a seller.

of various and sundry radios and now that
I'm retired I get a chance to play with some

of them. Yay! And I look at my list and say,
oh my goodness, I forgot I had such and such

and so on. But as I said, Joe, I will mail
you a list and we can talk about it. Anyway,

I don't have, well, I think I do. I do have
a couple of very old pieces of equipment.

But a lot of it is, I want to say late 50s,
60s, and 70s. And yes, I do have a couple

of modern pieces and so on. But I was looking
back on some of this stuff. some of the photos

of my own shack, of what I had to do to get
on the air and so forth. I've been on six

meters since day one because I had both a
novice and a tech license at the same time.

The novice allowed me CW on the low bands
and the technician allowed me six meters

and up. Well... At that time, we were talking
1967, the technician didn't have any privileges

below six meters. Everything was six meters
and up. So the novice gave me the low bands

plus two meters, and the technician gave me
six meters and up. And I was a tech for quite

a while.

Got my advanced class license, so that opened
up a lot of the HF bands and what have you.

I was a tech for 10 years. And then got my advanced
ticket. I held that one for 24 years. And then

in 2000 got my extra. So no restrictions anymore.
I can go anywhere on any handband. And I have

the machinery to do it. as the few people that
have seen my shack can attest. With that,

and I'll put my hand for the... Over to you,
Wayne. S-Q-I-W-A-3-K-F-T. 730.

Oh, thank you, John. WA-3KFT, this is KC-3SQI.
Yeah, I had, I thought the intermod was

real bad tonight because I was getting all kinds
of static and everything on a lot of people,

including you, Joe. And that's when I figured
out that I had the... volume on the input

for the... heater turned up and the volume
on the input would be staticky for some of

the people, but it was enough to break the
squelch. was my inner mod tonight.

Have fun with that. This kind of gave me a
good laugh today. We were coming back in after

having them out wrestling and doing their thing
and whatever. My male suddenly took off like

a shot and I suddenly see a rabbit go around
the end. of the Rosebush Guard. Well, the

rabbit did a quick U-turn underneath one of
the bushes and came flying back and went past

the other dog and under the deck and around
the other side of the house. And all I could

do was laugh at every one of them going, where'd
he go, where'd he go, where'd he go? Anyway.

Yeah, hoping this weekend cools down a little
bit and I can drop the antenna off of the

old mast, get that up, get the window up
onto the new mast, and get the six meter hula

hoop up onto the new mast. And then we'll see.
which antennas work best. Hopefully we'll

do a little bit of that, but until I can get
rid of some noise from the new HVAC, most

of the bands above 20 meters are just wiped.
Okay, with that I will turn it over to Jim,

AF3Z, this is KC3SQI, have a good night.

Okay, AF3Z, AF3Z, back here again. uh, enjoy
listening to everybody and also enjoying playing

my guitar in the background. I think it's the
first time I've the guitar out of the case

for about... I get it out then I think, oh why
don't I do more of this? I guess you guys know

how that stuff goes. And a couple of things
here. One about talking about summer and

heat. remember this was back, well I quit working
at Camp Horseshoe in 1976 was my last summer,

this was when I was in handicrafts, so my last
summer then was 1969. So in that 1966 to 69

range, I remember we had a real hot spell. And
the thing I remember is we had those metal

bunks. This was... wringy type things with a
mattress on top. And when you touched the metal

on the bunk, it felt warm that time. It was
really hot. And of course you start to get

above our body temperature when you get into
those upper 90s. I don't know how hot it was,

but just remember it was very hot and metal
felt warm when you touched it. So that's my

heat story. Yesterday, I guess it was, yeah,
yesterday I had a successful day. Well, I've

had it for a little while here. I continue
to get rid of stuff as best I can. And I've

had a number of big bags of stuff that I could
put out with the trash. And while I was getting

that together, I did it by also going through
it and seeing what was in decent enough shape

to go to goodwill. And I took a box full of...
Fabric-y type things to Goodwill and a number

of boxes. I had boxed up two sets of China.
I had them, the one had three boxes, the other

had two boxes, all carefully labeled so they'd
know which boxes went with which. But taking

that trip, and I am fortunate here, Goodwill
is only a hop, skip, and a jump, or maybe just

a long hop and a long skip. And so anyway. went
over there and they took all that stuff and

it always feels good to get rid of stuff. So
I'm continuing to move ahead on that but I

still got plenty of stuff that somebody needs
some stuff. The last thing, the last two mornings,

as you all are sick of hearing, I enjoy getting
on locally with a guy here on CW. And the

last two mornings have just been especially
enjoyable. And some of the fun of it at this

point for me is sort of paying attention to
what's going on in my head. The recent improvement

was not done by trying to get better, it just
by getting on and rag chewing in CW. And it's

just, it amazes me and it's fun to realize how
my brain just sort of listens and I'm hearing

the words take shape in my mind. I'm not copying
letters and all that. It's almost instantaneous

on the letters if I'm paying attention anyway.
And it's just a fun thing to pay attention

to how you progress with CW over the years and
how I have. Since 1967, I've got a few years

that I've been doing it. It's just been the
last few that it really started clicking in

my head. Thanks for getting on regularly. So
that's been fun. every once in while I have

an especially joyful morning at CW. Not morning.
We get on about half an hour these days. so

anyway, that's one of the fun things. And that's
good in the summer, especially when the air

conditioning is working. So let me see, that's
probably, and I didn't mention sailing earlier

in my things that I like to do, partially I
guess because it's pretty far from my mind

these days. But I do enjoy sailing and, I can
say about the sailing was I endured sitting

out in the hot sun and in the heat to go sailing
where most other things I wouldn't. So in

a backwards kind of way, that says I really
enjoy sailing. And I was out actually last

week, but not so much to really sail, but to
take some like elementary eight kids, age kids,

for a ride in a sailboat. And I got down to
the camp one day and we had an outboard running

and we put up the jenny, which is a large jib
on the front of the boat. We put up the jenny

occasionally and even turned off the engine
when we had enough wind to keep us moving.

it was mainly taking kids for a ride, but it
was still fun just to get out and do that.

So W3MFB, my mighty fine boy, over to you AS3Z.

3ZW3MFB, that's how it's flown Jim. And it is
quite amazing when you're saying about the

CW and the words just appearing in your mind
and having the conversation and not having

the copy. That's brilliant. Hopefully your mind,
obviously your mind will never go dull. For

sure, for sure. Not too much else going on here.
Just got a book in my lap. and flipping through

and then listening as well. John, John's selling,
Jim's getting rid of stuff and stuff and if

you need stuff, ask him, he'll give you stuff.
Just kind of reminded me of a George Carlin

bit and he talked about stuff. Yeah, I need
to do that. I need to start doing that for

sure. We always say we're gonna get rid of
stuff but it doesn't happen. But a little

bit at a time, you're right. It's probably a
good thing. you mentioned China. You have a

ship, Jason, I used to work with. His parents
wanted to get rid of their, the mom, his mom's...

was at turn of the century, guess, 20th century
Dutch, Dutch China. sold it for him on eBay

when I was doing eBay. When we used to do eBay,
or I used to do eBay, I would just... mediums.

I never did anything large because it's a pain
in the butt. But he was my shipper and he was

really good at what he did, packaging and things.
So when we did sell this set at the time, this

was 2017, 18, something like that, for 350 bucks.
His mom was happy, of course. But it was a...

to boxes inside, so triple, triple walled in
a way. But anyway, it got there. It got to

Georgia in one piece to a collector who was
a collector slash seller, you know, because

we all end up being that person at some point
in life. But yeah, so we were happy that China

got there. But that just reminded me of that
as well.

Nothing else really going on, just trying to
get by in life. Everything's more expensive

and just trying to grind on. But I'm here,
I'm thankful. I a roof over my head, in my

belly, love around me, and we just keep on
keeping on. But yeah, that's about it. So

back to Chuck, NA 3CW, W3MFP.

Thanks Mike, and speaking of Mike's, is W1RC
back among us? This is NHBCW.

I guess not. Well, before we close down the
roundtable, do we have anybody that's up and

out there lurking and listening and tuned in
and wants to get on the list? Please call

an H-R-E-C-W.

Okay, thanks to all stations for checking into
the 985 roundtable and a big thank you to Joe,

W3GMS for making the 985 repeater available
for the roundtable. You are invited to use

a repeater often. It's a great way to show that
you appreciate the gift of 985 to the amateur

radio community. Finally, we hope to hear from
you again on Monday evening at 8 p.m. during

the 985 workbench, which is quite possibly the
most popular thing we do, at least on the air.

So this concludes the roundtable for tonight.
Feel free to stick around and keep the repeater

hot. Have a good night, a great weekend. This
is an A3CW clear.
