(Liz) Hello and welcome back to Houselights your one stop shop for everything you need to hear about this week in the world of entertainment. I'm your host as always Liz nos. And I am here with frequent guest and beauty queen and International Relations superstar. Miss Hannah Woehrle

(Hannah) you flatter me too much you do

(Liz) when I texted you literally yesterday, by the way, when I started to do literally yesterday saying like, I need you like come on. You would say that I get that I get to see your face

(Hannah) Stop the joy that I get from being with you. Never diminishes ever. No. Ever want to go?

(Liz) Well, we love to start an episode with flirting. We do this. We just love each other so much. But yes, frequent guest you're always on I know that I can count on you to you know, serve a good episode. I love so live. But yeah, this week. Well, before we jump on the topic, one thing that me and Hannah always usually end up talking about is musicals. Because we're like the were the two musical people like in LA in the office.

(Hannah and Liz) Yeah, we're like the really annoying people. Yeah, like a void. Yeah, we're like, turn journalists like pipeline that's like really gross. And like you kind of want to like avoid but like it's fine, and we couldn't avoid it. Oh my god. Mike Kessler, he walked in here the other day. Yeah. And he made me do like a little like video for Emily Wilkins was the new National Press Club. And he was like Liz lamb just put on the microphone, whatever you do. Congratulations, Emily. Well, I told my friends I was like, Dude, can you tell I used to be a theater kid. And he was like, yeah, he was like, yeah, he's like, I actually don't care at all that obvious from my everything. I like everything.

(Liz) But yeah, before we get into what we want to talk about, you saw the Mean Girls musical. I haven't yet. Give me a review.

(Hannah) My review is I think I would have liked it better if I wasn't familiar with the Broadway version, right? I think that there were like certain songs that they cut that I really wanted to see. What what's um, I've no, I can't even do spoilers anymore. Because like everyone's already spoiled. Yeah. The the cut like all of Damien songs was just so dumb. That's pretty cuz because Jack Welch and I forget his last name, who was in strangely on Broadway. He plays Damien in this and he's so good. And he's so talented. And so he would have killed all of Damien Symes, me originally at the cut, stop.

(Liz and Hannah) They would never know how to do a tattoo. They're terrified of a tap number. And you know Yeah, but they cut that they cut where do you belong? Another sign of them being terrified of just a big dance number for real? No. And I will and I saw like the dance break from sexy. And it's like, it was very tick tock. They were trying to make a tick tock dance. Okay. Yeah. And it's like, that's fine. It's just like you like, like, the music industry is now with tick tock. In my opinion. Yeah. But so it makes sense for the movie musical.

(Hannah) Absolutely. But like, the whole point, the whole reason why they're making another Mean Girls is because the one they made before were so timeless. Right? And they're not gonna get that from that.

(Liz) No, and like, I think people said that with like, all the sheen. Which is, I guess kind of timely. I feel like you can already see Yeah, the date in it. Oh, yeah. Fortunately, like, 2022 Yeah. So

(Hannah) that's a whole nother conversation about like, the cycle of trends being so fast. So far. Yeah. And how that kind of like how it contributes to mental health and the environment. That's a whole. Really

(Liz and Hannah) You know, it hasn't fallen out of sight. I just saw you were the little women's stuff. So as far as Salya I mean, it's nice, because it's so expensive. That falls out of style. And we're all out ton of money. Oh, literally, but I feel like athletic wear you know, that's like the one thing it's like really stuck on like the athleisure and I'm glad because I like being able to wear sweatpants. Oh, yeah. Like like it'd be like stylish. You're so stylish, stylish. But ya know, what was so number Mean Girls musical like out of 10 out of 10 i and i love Rene rap. I'd like me to get a five I feel a five because it was like very middle of the road in my opinion. Yeah. And what my one friend who saw he's like twice he loved us so much. But he also wasn't familiar with the Broadway show. Okay, and he just couldn't watch it. Yes, so we get pretentious about it because you've seen it you've seen the original have seen it it's like failing you know, I've seen the original cast just like nothing else really. Really got the New York experience of the $30 training on tickets and meeting it was like so like spur the moment the big city like city What do you

(Liz) No but um, me girls musical I haven't seen yet but I Well now you can see that and I'll let you know if I give it a more five or less than five please do I think when I wrap honestly my carry for did she carry

(Hannah and Liz) he wasn't in it as much as you would think it will because they she was on Broadway Broadway you think it was because it was so because I feel like all the marketing made it look like she would be like writing like like Regina is the main character but you're still Katie. Yeah, Katie is still like the one you follow when a rap is booked and busy. She is booked busy. So she kind of uses so good.

(Liz) Her music is so good well just like I love one Broadway actors like changing like musicians because their voices are just so perfect. Just so good. Like you can't be a Broadway performer.

(Hannah and Liz) She also wrote a song with Meghan the stallion for Mean Girls. And that's a good song. It was pretty good. I liked the song a lot. So it was cool. That was like the one thing that I was like, Oh, I'm pretty proud of this. Yeah, actually. Yeah.

(Liz) All right. Moving on to our next topic that I brought you here today's forum. I love the internet. I hate the Internet. The Internet. sensationalized is everything. So I want to talk a little bit about some of the things that the internet has absolutely blown out of proportion, and exaggerated within the last, maybe like a month. I feel like it's pretty timely. But the first thing I want to talk about because I saw I saw another podcast talking about, I'm only a ripoff. And everybody. So and everybody knows that. So I want you to feel b

(Hannah) Better, though. It's like you're the remake, but the better.

(Liz) I talk about it then like nobody else is talking before. Yeah, exactly. So, um, Gypsy Rose. The Internet blew up. I feel like the internet. I mean, obviously there was the Hulu show. I watched it actually after Gypsy Rose was released because I didn't, I would, I would see the clips on Tik Tok. But I wouldn't like I didn't watch the show. And so I mean, I think yeah, we talked about the last summer like so many people just watch tick tock clips nowadays. Yeah. Like I watched the show. And that is how I felt about it. But then I watched it because like, some people didn't know about her. But I feel like most people didn't know Gypsy Rose the extent until it was like, literally a week before she was about to be like really? Yeah. Like, what did you know? Did you know anything about Gypsy Rose before?

(Hannah) Um, well, so they did the show with Joey King, right? Yes. And so I didn't watch it. But I remember seeing ads for it. And so I remember like her story about how she like, she, like, faked being sick, or her mom like forced her to being sick. And then she like, killed her mom.

(Liz) Yes. So her mom made her fake being sick, right? For all these years. And like, she thought that she was sick for a really long time. And then she like sort of found out as she grew up, and like her mom, like would like d h her so that she could like, she was like 23 or something. And she was like So playing that she was like 15 Okay, so like, isn't it so crazy? And so like she's like, an abused person, obviously. And so like the entire like, internet going like mother the minute she gets out. It just seems like a little long. Overwhelming. Maybe for someone of that. Like and then she hired some she's not hired. But she had a boyfriend who she told to kill her mom. Whoa, okay, I support women.

(Hannah) And that's what she was in jail for?

(Liz) That's what she was in jail for.

(Hannah) When did she go to jail?

(Liz) She went to jail seven years ago, so it wasn't that long because but her boyfriend has a life life in prison as

(Hannah) I was just say she must have had some very good lawyers are really sympathetic jury because jury that for like that would that would have been like second or third degree manslaughter.

(Liz) Yeah. Well, because it's like, and they were like, okay, she was abused. At what point is this? You know, like, self, um, you know, what is it called? Like, where you're like, your cheer. You're defending yourself? Or defending yourself? But, yeah, like, at what point is a self defense? Yeah. So and then the boyfriend, like didn't have any connection. He's the one that actually did the physical killing

(Hannah) At the point when she killed her mom. Was her mother still like forcing her to pretend to be sick? Yes. Okay. Yeah. So I can then see why the jury Yeah, make that argument.

(Liz) Well, and she had also right before, I mean, if the Hulu show is correct, I don't want to like assume things because Gypsy Rose says that she was not going to watch the show. Because she was like, I lived it already. Um, but she were what was your question? If she was like, still having to? Yes, she was. I don't know where I was going with that button. But ya know, she was my ring fellow. Because I'm just turning my hands so much. Um, but yeah, was she ready for all that? I don't think so.

(Hannah) Is she not going to become like an Instagram influencer?

(Liz) That's literally so then the question was Was she ready for all that? Apparently she was because you know that guy that was used to be on The Bachelor that has the podcast with his wife, like Nick like an index file? Yes. When he's married, Amit? Yes. Yes, I have about things I so removed from like, all things bachelor for a while, because I just like didn't have the time to watch the show. Yeah.

(Hannah) And I've also been off of social media for the most Yes, I want to talk about you've been on social social media. That's crazy. Yeah, I just will say I've been off Tik Tok for like, a year and a half now. That's crazy. So then I got like, kind of a little bit addicted to reels, which is not something I'm proud of. And so I deleted Instagram, like early December. And I like read, downloaded it like for a week. And then like the cycle just came back up. And he's like, I've gotta get rid of that. And then I even had to, like, delete YouTube because like, for a day, I found myself going on youtube shorts. And I was like, This can't be happening. That's really deleted. I deleted Facebook, and I deleted Twitter. And so are you on Facebook, ma'am? Well, when I deleted Instagram, I was going on a quite honestly because I just needed to scroll. And so the only like, and so I'll go on. You just got your notes I've now been well, I will sometimes go on. I have LinkedIn. I find myself scrolling LinkedIn. Yes

(Liz) I think I was just having this conversation today. I love to look up my ex boyfriend to make sure that he's still an employee. Oh, yeah, of course. No, it's like still like student MSU and I'm like You graduated last year, babe. Like, get a job. Anyways? Still Student No, that's my favorite thing is shocking, because it's like, yeah, what are people doing? Like for money? Like it's honestly Oh, serious social media.

(Hannah and Liz) Yeah, I wish I like saw more people from my high school on there. I don't see I never see anybody from high school ever go for people from high school. I honestly, those are the people I feel like that would be the juiciest to find out what their Oh, yeah, absolutely. But like I am too scared to like look them up, because then they'll be able to see that. I know. I'm getting LinkedIn premium boob. No, it's not worth all that. And honestly, I like the pettiness of like, See, I've like I love seeing well looked me up. Yes. I love the bicycle. Yeah, I'm like, Okay, you see, you're seeing how like good I'm doing now. Oh, my God, like, look at my brand new positions. Isn't that like blowing your mind? Here's me in cat suit Oh, yeah. Here's like a little little piece that I wrote. So if you want to read that, you know, was a pleasure talking with so and so. And they and then they say that it was a pleasure talking with you. You're like anybody else? Everyone's like, wow. Oh my god. I'm so cool. Liz is the best. Okay, I always knew that. But yeah, so social media, you're off it. So you're not keeping up with anything. The only thing I'm keeping up with is the state news. And that's what everyone should do every day go to the state. For your most recent MSU in Lansing area story. Anywhere news by Spartans for Spartan was great. Yeah. And this is that trending. Most trending and analysts are like, are we making sure that that's trending? It's always trending. It's trending. Always trending. I'm sure. Let's let's move on. Let's move on. Let's move on.

(Liz and Hannah) Because I want to make sure that we say everything we want to. But Gypsy Rose for that last part. She will be like a 50 She's gonna be like the FabFitFun box is still a thing. Oh my god on The Bachelor. I was like, um, hair, the hair? gummies Yes, the hair. gummies she's me doing that. But ya know, she's on every podcast now. And it's like, Okay, Jim. If you would like to be on Houselights My doors are open move. Like I want to talk and honestly bring your husband to I have some questions for me to wait. Husband in prison. Three things. She married the guy in prison. No, no, no, she married a different guy reached out to her while she was in prison. And they're married. Crazy wondering.

(Liz) No, and they're like talking about like on like, podcasts or whatever they were like, so how is it to be like married but like one of your partners in like, prison. I was like, probably pretty hard. Probably not great. Like, I don't know. Yeah. But Okay, the next thing on the internet sensationalized Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Those poor people can't do anything without a picture being taken down true. Now you can be like doing something so normal. Yeah. And it'll be like, Oh my god, new pictures just dropped.

(Hannah) I'm honestly still surprised that with how fast the news cycle is, I'm surprised that they've like, hung on to this story. Yeah, because I feel like people like me personally. Like I love Taylor Swift, but I stopped paying attention. then like, October. No, I agree. And then like happy for them, obviously. But like, I'm just kind of like

(Liz) PR, I think like part of their relationship but yet, I mean, maybe because it's like NFL like, I just don't care. And honestly, no one can make me care about the NFL. Not even. I'll see like a picture of her. It'll be like, Oh, she looks so classy. And they'll move on. Yeah, I'm not gonna watch it. But there's people that like watch a football game now to like, watch her swift. And I'm like, Yeah, that's cool. We all have our own hobbies. Exactly. That won't be that won't be it. Not that I hate sports. I got super into the Detroit Lions game me too the other night and like, you would think that I was like, like, lived in Detroit. All my life like football fans. I became like Sandra Bullock in the blind side. Like run the bank. Whoa, like that was literally me that I knew. Yeah. And I'll never watch another football game again. I just feels that disappointment.

(Hannah) Yeah, well, I was at Ford Field.

(Liz and Hannah) Yeah. Oh my gosh, we were my roommates and I were all saying like, Oh my god that watch party look so far was fun. It was fun for the first half. Yeah. And then it got soft and it got a little bit some nobody was having fun anymore. Not really that third quarter that that did a lot of people in like you a draft came in from the amount of people leaving it open the door. It was like a great middle you might as well see you know, I saw it and it wasn't like it was all there was like a sliver of hope and like the last 10 seconds when they were like trying to like fumble the punt and then grab it and then run it but this just became the sports roundtable people around you Well, I will literally never be honest. Ever. And that podcast you get conversation about musical theater conversation about Gypsy Rose conversation about this trend lines. We are a one stop shop. Your one stop shop for everything you need to hear about this.

(Hannah) There. Okay, I started not to go off topic, but I did see that you want to talk about the Nicki and Meghan and the orange peel theory both of which are things I don't know about.

(Liz) Okay, so the Nicki and Megan beef, I'm gonna give it as like, as fast as I can. So Megan released her new song hiss. And in that song, there was a there was one line to have Nikki's name in it, but it brought up Megan's Law which has something to do with you need to disclose sexual predators. I believe Nikki is married to a sexual predator. And so you know, Megan Eisley classy dig. And Nikki, you shouldn't be married to a sexual predator. Yeah, Nikki, I don't think anybody has spelled that out for you, baby anyways, but like it was a classy line. I love mango sign. And honestly, I love Nicki too. I love them both. But Nikki's, um, Megan's in the right here. Absolutely. Well, just wait. Oh, also, I just want to say Pink Friday, too, was not that good. Um, but that's part of it. But so then she released on dishrack. Nikita, Nikki did after she went in. She was quick. And honestly, she should have gotten gotten it goes for him. Because she makes she makes a claim that like this. I mean, that's not the only thing but like, one of the things that she says is like, oh, Megan ghost writes or whatever. And I'm like, okay, but nobody could perform the way that megan Oh, no. So it's like, yeah, she was so good. With Renee. Yeah, yeah, she was so good. But, um, so that was one of the places in the song broader in the songs called Big Foot. Um, so I don't know if anybody knows this word. Megan was like a victim. She was shot in the foot by Tori lanes, and she brings up in the song. Um, you know, get up on your good foot. And it's like Nikki, Nikki. Lola. And then she brings up her dead mom to Megan's Yeah. Low blow. And then she says her name like five times in the phone. What are we doing Nikki? What are we doing? Nikki only beefs with the people who are on the top of the game. Nikki would never be with anybody who was like irrelevant. You know? I'm saying Nikki you gotta use like she's intimidated. I mean, we all do. Yes. Be honest. I don't be with somebody if I don't care, you know.

(Hannah) I don't know. I feel like I feel like I'm I would be like, at least it's not cowardly. You know, like, yeah, like beefing with somebody you know, you're better than like events. Like yeah, that's true. I guess I will summon your own size type of thing. That's true. But also I feel like Megan is do had an I think a pay pay more attention to Megan the stallion then Nicki Minaj I feel like Megan's doing more than Nicki right now. Yes. Personally won't. She's just like, also is newer than not that it makes her any better. No, but she seems like more of an innovator like her ideas seem more original and creative. And I don't know. But Nikki was like that too, though. Like, yeah, she was like

(Liz and Hannah) he was on the top of the game. Yeah, for forever. She's still very relevant. Yeah, super relevant. She still makes good music. Yeah. Thank credit. She was a flop. Um, but why don't we like lift each other up? Why don't we just like, lift each other up? Let's just be girls. Girls, that was the last time so that we talked about girls, girls and girls girls. So could it be us? Could it be us, we would never make a diss track about each other's mommy love each other too much anyways.

(Liz) But let me explain to you the orange. So the orange peel theory is, um, this thing where it was on tick tock, and you ask your boyfriend to peel an orange for you? And like if they don't do it, like, like, what? Like, why are you like, why can't you do this thing for me? Like, they don't love you. If they do peel the orange for you. They do love you. Because the concept is this thing that you can do this thing? Listen, the men in the room are getting so mad. Oh my god. Okay, let me talk to the camera really quick, since I can't talk to these people here. The orange is a metaphor for something that you can do as an independent woman. But if someone is able to take something that you don't want to do off of your shoulders, then it means like maybe they you know, they really do care for you, you know? And let me say, I don't even agree with this theory. Like, okay, he can peel an orange for you. Like I think it's a sweet concentrate of creating a feeling for you. But like, is he financially responsible through testing? Like, can you be compelling or Yeah. Or seriously videos of boyfriends who would not do it? I'm getting riled up. Yeah, that's crazy. By the way.

(Hannah and Liz making fun of Podcast editor Anthony, lol) I love and respect women. By the way. I love respect women, by the way. I dropped my feminist literature and also to an orange. I love women. I mean, I'm assuming that some of the rhetoric from like guys is like, Oh my God, these girls are always like, trying to test us first. It was the Roman Empire. Yeah, it's like I need someone. Are you getting good grades in school? Yeah, let's have the Barbie a little hungry. Yeah, like yeah, do what you rearrange stars for me. Do you see me when you look in the sky? Like yeah, okay. Are you a tree about me? Again? Would you pay my bills? One more time? Can you please pay me anyways?

(Liz) But I had to explain. I just feel like the internet took that and like ran with it. That sounds like some of the internet would take like, it's a sweet concept. Right? It's really not that's like, yeah, if your man will pill a freaking orange fr you to leave him? He should. Yeah, he should. Because it's like, just like a kind of simple gesture.

(Hannah) But again, it just seems like if if and I feel like if the if the roles were reversed. Yeah, more likely than not. I mean, this is me having a lot of faith in women, which I love women. So I feel like we like I don't know, I feel like if I was asked to peel an orange for someone be like, Oh, my best friends. I would always pool I might I might like question why they can't do it. But I wouldn't be

(Liz and Hannah) like if like if I'm going out, you know, tomorrow or something. If a girl came up to me and she was like, Can you please feel this orange I really want a snack idea. Or especially if she had like acrylics and she was like I really don't wanna like mess up my notes. Can you please fill this one for me? 100% 100 Please, give me another orange I'll peel so for you know for real and that's and that's when that's when and that's women.

(Brad joins the show, lol)

(Brad, Liz and Hannah) Can I just real quick ask you guys a question man washed? Can Ilike not letting us pass the Bechdel Test at all? For women,I have a question. What? Where do you learn how to peel an orange? Like genuine question. This is weaponized. You incompetent. Competence. Second of all, are you telling us you don't know how to appeal an orange? Can we get the camera on this guy? Aren't you married? Ask your wife. I don't because we're feeding into the weaponized incompetence. That's so true. But I'm like asked would you dealing with if you're if your lovely wife, the wife that you love so much, can you please be this orange? You're telling me you wouldn't like try to figure it out? I mean, maybe I'm just saying Do I feel like I can get her a fruit cup? I could do that. Do you want a cup? So you were I wouldn't do anything else I would do anything. Anything else then feel an orange? Well, I I mean, I can learn how to appeal in orange. You can or you will because this is the woman he's married and you're telling me you won't go so far as to learn how to peel an orange. This is a wikiHow article. Google it. Oh my god. Google. You sound like a boomer who was like refusing to look something up google how to appeal in order that easy. When should I have learned how to worry when you were in kindergarten? Yeah. You know, you were never like at a soccer game. And they gave you a clementine afterwards and they were like, Here you go. I never ate a Clementine. Okay, that shouldn't prevent you from learning how to peel. It's really not that complicated. You stick your finger in and you peel it. Really? Is that easy? Yes. It's that easy. The instructions are in the name. orange peel. Oh, no. I don't know get a knife. Cut it in half. There's so many ways to solve this problem. If you really jump out of the box of your own manhood. I think that you can really get it I just wonder how many how many times a day does she like figure out how to do things for you that she didn't know before? Too many? Too many. It seems like a pretty simple task, does it not? Yeah, I suppose so. Yeah. Yeah. Trying to save yourself at the fruit cup. Yeah, I'm just armed all I'm saying let's just have a thoughtful gesture to be like let me try to get something for you. Right I would. I would problem solve that way that's waiting the initial that's a fine thing, but I'm guessing you're like anxious avoidant. And that's a fine thoughtfulness to to do. But I think that the point in this theory is figuring out To what lengths will you learn a task either that you don't want to do or don't know how to do in order to please the person that you love? Oh, yeah, sure. Wow. You're loving it. I would say that we appreciate you jumping in but I honestly don't know. Sorry. cancelled after this. Sorry. I shouldn't. I thought I was adding to the conversation turns out you learned a lesson. Oh, that's good. We can always learn something you know, you guys by the way, you guys would do great on a podcast where you just had men call in and just totally give them the business. Kind of like kinda like how sports host just totally derail their callers. No, we could totally do it. Did we derail you? You did a good job of hurting my self esteem. Yeah, that to an orange for thought. If you in orange thought. Oh, well. Guess yes, that can be what our segment is for. And once we do that, orange, orange for sigh

(Liz and Hannah) Wow. Awesome. That was an episode. That was an episode one. I love having more guests. Yeah. some really weird stuff. Like they don't know how to peel an orange. But um, Hannah, thank you so much for being on today. I'd love you. I would like to say that we talked about what the internet sensationalized, but honestly, I'm not sure we asked. Most important part and you know what, we're gonna keep yapping and to keep on yapping. Have a great rest of your day, you guys. Thanks, Hannah, for coming on. Thanks for having me. Love you guys.
