The Noon Hour Of Madness & Mayhem can be heard live on KBEAR 101 weekdays at 12pm MST. Viktor and Peaches talk about a wide variety of topics depending on the day and you never know what to expect!
[upbeat music] The noon hour of Madness and Mayhem, the podcast
Oh, Peaches, it's Friday.
Yeah.
Yes, yes. Oh, I need a weekend so bad. I- is it storming outside?
Yes, it is.
I, I thought there was like a giant truck driving through the parking lot or something. [laughs]
No, I, uh, was in the Z103 stud- studio. I told you. Um, I, I was sitting there, and all of a sudden I, I heard some, like, ts-ts-ts, like, like electrical, like ts. And then I saw a flash of white, and then I heard the, uh, storm clouds. And then I, I was like, "I don't have any hair that can stick up for, to, to, to warn me that lightning's about to strike," so I ca- I came running in here.
Well, what you could do is, uh, just go stand on top of a mountain and, uh, be l- on your phone-
Why not just-
... doing the show as a live broadcast
Why not just walk inside-
And then when-
... with my keys out?
I don't know. It seems like up on top of a mountain would be more likely to get you struck, and then we could hear it happen live on the radio. Has anyone ever been struck by lightning live on the radio?
I'm sure people have faked it before.
Oh, yeah. [mimics explosion] Oh. Ah.
[laughs]
You wouldn't make any, like, sounds. I feel like it would just be like ts, and you're, you're done. Like, you're, you're, you're gone. Like, you're passed out or you're dead.
Let me look if anyone's been struck by lightning live on TV.
And again, the, the, the scars that you get if you survive a lightning strike,
the scars that you get are so cool.
Dude, they, they are awesome. That's about the best kind of scars you can get.
I swear, if I see another person turn this corner, see us recording in the studio, and they run back-
Who was it?
... I hope they get struck by lightning.
[laughs] Oh, geez. Who was it?
I think it was either Josh or Jade.
What?
One of the two J's.
Why don't you get ...
[laughs]
That's right. Okay, let's see. Um, I asked Google if anybody had been struck by lightning live on television, and it says, yes, several people.
Well, live on television for sure.
But what, what ... Okay, I guess let's try radio. Live on radio. [laughs] Hello, everybody. I'm out broadcasting live today. We're out at-
[laughs]
Ah.
[laughs]
[laughs] This is Lou Brutus, hard drive exhale. I got a sign, ride the lightning. [laughs]
[laughs] Uh, let's see. Wisconsin sports radio host-
No
... Bill Michaels survived being struck by energy from a lightning bolt while broadcasting live on air. Oh, they have v-
I thought you were about to say-
They have video of it?
I thought you were gonna say Wisconsin born and raised radio DJ Cutter, the cut-
[laughs]
Host of the Cutting Edge Countdown
struck by lightning.
Here, I'm gonna turn this down. There's supposedly video of it. Let's see here. Or at least a news report about it.
Right now at 6:00, lightning strikes a Wisconsin radio host while he's on the air live.
I'm guessing it's faked.
Bill Michaels.
Dude, they've gotta play the audio. I have gotta hear this guy all, "All right. And we got number, uh, 33 heading down the field. All right, passes to number 7. Ah, ah, ah." [laughs]
[laughs]
If they do have it, we gotta put it into imaging right away.
Oh, for sure.
Survived that lightning strike.
He has a blister on his finger and a hole on his shoe to prove it. The sportscaster recounts the bizarre-
What'd she say? A blister on his finger and a whole lot of shoe?
I don't, I don't know. [laughs]
Hold on. Let me back-
I wasn't paying attention to her.
Hold on. Let's listen to it.
I'm like, "Shut up and play the audio."
[laughs]
Blister on his finger and a hole on his shoe to prove it. The sportscaster recounts-
A whole lot of shoe to prove it
That's what she said, isn't it?
...
and a hole on his shoe to prove it. The sportscaster recounts the-
What does that mean?
I, now I gotta Google the phrase whole lot of shoe. [laughs] What does that mean?
That ... Let's see. A whole lot of shoe is a popular phrase for describing a huge chunky or extra bold style of footwear. [laughs] Okay, that would make-
Well, lady, this has nothing to do with his shoes.
[laughs] Well, uh, aren't, aren't you supposed to, like, uh ... Isn't there something relating to, like, rubber and things, like insulating yourself from lightning? May-
Oh, maybe he's wearing, like, these clunky rubber shoes. [laughs]
Like the ones that I wear?
Uh, because-
You know, old man shoes with thick soles
... he, he's like, "I'm never getting struck by lightning again."
[laughs]
Just sh- pulls up to the studio-
Bizarre
... in a rubber suit. All right.
Our details with our Corinne Zell.
Bill just finished interviewing Jerry Kramer at a golf outing in Eau Claire when he heard a buzz and felt a jolt. Syndicated sports radio host Bill Michaels back on the air a day after he was struck by lightning.
He had no PTO.
[laughs] Yeah, exactly.
[laughs]
Sorry, dude. You c- we can't have you voice tracking your show. [laughs]
[laughs]
You're gonna have to come in from the hospital. [laughs] We know you were struck by lightning, but this is radio, bro.
[laughs]
[laughs]
This is very important. [laughs]
We talked to Bill via FaceTime during his commercial break.
But immediately I couldn't feel my arms, legs-
[laughs] They only let him do an interview for the news about being struck by lightning live on air while he's on commercial break. [laughs]
[laughs]
Don't take any time away from your show. [laughs] All right, Bill.
[laughs]
[laughs]
Below my elbows, and my, my legs and my feet.
Bill drove himself to the hospital.
[laughs]
The lightning struck his hand and foot.
The, the bolt-
He ... Dude, he is wearing the same kind of shoes as me pretty much. [laughs]
[laughs]
They show his shoe. [laughs]
Current blew out through the bottom of my shoe.
He was undercover outside broadcasting from a metal table.
But see, he was broadcasting-
Bill remembers hearing-
... outside. He wasn't actually in the studio.
All right. Well, it still counts, [laughs] you know? Hey, Peaches is gonna be broadcasting live next weekend. [laughs] What's the weather be like?
Hey, we might be do- hey, we're gonna be interviewing Papa Roach, Set It Off, and Autumn Kane in, in Pocatello.
Oh, geez.
"Hey, so did you call me?"
[mimics electrical current]
[laughs]
Ah. Ah. [laughs]
Hearing thunder in the distance, and minutes later, an electric buzz.
And I had had my arms kind of up underneath the table on my knees and touching the table.
Bill didn't see it, but someone else saw his table light up.
The best way I can describe it is like somebody had an electrical wire laying across my lap and-
Put the plug in, pull the plug out, put the plug in, pull the plug out. It was like two quick buzzes
Did they say you were actually struck by lightning?
They used that term, but basically there's what they call transference
Okay. And, and they don't a- they don't appear to have the audio. They said he was live on air, but I think he was just out broadcasting.
Yeah.
I wanna hear-
How lame
I don't know if that makes me twisted or what, but I wanna hear somebody get struck by lightning [laughs] live on air.
L- l- look it up.
I, I... Well, let's see. Um-
Well, I mean, here's the thing. It's like,
i- if he were to get struck by lightning on the air in the studio, wouldn't the whole thing just kind of become a dead signal?
I guess it-
It'd become dead air
... I guess it would depend. I mean, [laughs] if it affected the equipment, yes. Uh, if the person lived,
they might be r- writhing and screaming in pain.
Right
If they died-
Well, I... No, here's the thing. It's like, if they are, they, they, if they were struck by lightning, I don't think you are conscious. I feel like you're just out.
Yeah
And then you wake up.
Can you imagine this poor guy, Bill? He's out broadcasting live on the golf course-
Interviewing a golfer
[laughs] Gets struck by lightning and, and management's calling his cell.
"Why is there dead air?" [laughs]
[laughs]
"Get, get back on the mic.
This is unacceptable."
Just getting air checked by the PD-
[laughs]
[laughs] While he's on the ground.
Jade would do something like that to me.
Probably. [laughs]
He'd be highlight that specific part of the air check tape and be like, "What's... Why, why was there dead air here? What's going on?"
Yeah, 'cause I was dying.
Yeah.
I was struck by lightning. Unacceptable excuse. This is radio.
I get a PIP.
[laughs] If you don't wanna do the job, somebody else will surely take your seat. Show up and do the job you were given to do. No dead air, Bill.
You get that, uh, email. All of a sudden-
[laughs]
... you're no longer a part of the team.
[upbeat music]
It's the noon hour of madness and mayhem, and what's up, Peaches?
When you go home tonight, I want you to be like, "Becca,
we're gonna fall asleep to some, uh, white noise that Peaches found earlier this morning."
Okay. Are you sending me this in a link?
Uh, you can look it up for yourself on YouTube.
Okay.
It's, uh, called Eight Hours of Modern Warfare 2.
[laughs] All right. I like this in the, as a music blend.
Now, I don't know if we can play the actual audio of this particular one that... No, you can play the audio of this. It is... Does it say Eight Hours of Modern Warfare 2 on the title there?
Um, it says COD Modern Wa- W- Warfare 2 Full Eight Hour... No, that's Playthrough.
Let me go to videos here.
Eight Hours of War Sounds-
Th- There you go
... in Modern Warfare 2.
That's it.
That one?
Yeah.
Okay.
The guy's gonna speak in the very beginning where he's like, "Okay, I'll see you in the next one."
Okay. Yeah, I see that. I'm, I'm gonna just skip ahead.
Now, this is not too bad, but it might affect your grandpa that has PTSD.
Okay. Yeah. Um, you know, it's kinda like the same warnings we give out at the 4th of July. We are going to be playing sound effects of warfare in the background. Uh, 'cause this is what helps Peaches sleep.
Yeah, I love hearing people getting shot.
Just, just this noise?
[gunshots] All right.
This, this sounds like my street, the ghetto side of Idaho Falls.
Oh, yeah, dude, it's crazy out there. I saw somebody post in the, um, Idaho Falls subreddit asking for advice on moving here and making sure they ended up in a safe neighborhood. [laughs]
Okay.
Oh, you gotta watch out.
Well-
We got some rough areas of town
... the, the reason why I bring this up is because I saw this posted this morning. You can now fall asleep to the sound of nostalgic Call of Duty voice-chat arguments.
Oh. [laughs] Yeah, that's great.
Which we can't air here because of the, uh, forbidden words that are being used in those arguments, but who's gonna fall asleep to a, a crappy Xbox 360 microphone being used and... There are two- multiple people using those microphones to yell at each other.
Well, we just played, uh, System of a Down Toxicity. I'm gonna go with, uh, Toxic Video Gamers, Peaches.
But i- isn't this nice?
That's new.
It, it... This is rather-
It is kind of
... this is, this is rather soothing
... it sounds, sounds like a rainstorm. Let me jump ahead. Maybe it gets crazier. [gunshots] No, it's-
Do you start hearing some guy, "Get down, get down!"
[laughs] Yeah, you need the screaming mayhem sounds of war. And like we talked about earlier with somebody getting struck by lightning, we need a little bit of, "Ah, ah."
You know what? I have an idea.
What?
We're gonna, we're gonna loop the first scene in Saving Private Ryan where they storm the beaches-
Oh, geez
... and they're all getting shot and destroyed. We're gonna just loop that for eight hours. That's what we can fall asleep to.
Yeah, just nice and peaceful and relaxing. Who needs the sounds of rain when you got, you know, this kind of thunder?
It actually is kinda relaxing. I was expecting it to be a lot, uh, louder-
I feel like my grandpa-
... more explosion
... who served in the Korean War, you know, just-
Yeah
... I feel like I'm experiencing what he experienced.
Yeah, he's just down in a trench.
Chester Peach. Sergeant Peach.
Sergeant Chester Peach.
Yeah, what a, what a stupid name. [laughs]
[laughs] Peaches, come on, man. He's a... It, well, I don't know. I was gonna say he's a hero, but I don't know if he was a hero.
Oh, that guy.
He could've been, he could've been a coward.
If that guy's a hero.
[laughs] He's ran out of the trench in the other direction.
No, he used to just jump out of planes.
Oh, really?
Yeah. What an idiot, right? [laughs]
[laughs] Geez. I take it that Chester's not around anymore.
No, he hasn't been around since 2013. Even if he was-
[laughs]
... you know, what, what was some old man gonna do? Just try to... [laughs]
"I'm gonna come down out to Idaho and get you, Peaches." [laughs]
He might haunt me later. All of a sudden, just hear, "I'm coming for you, Brendan." [laughs]
[laughs] [upbeat music] All right. Peaches is currently showing me, uh, family photos. Showed me a picture of, uh, what'd you say his official title was in the military?
Oh, he was a, he was a sergeant. He was a-
Sergeant.
Uh, he-
Sergeant Chester Peach
... yeah. As, as you can see
And it's funny-
There's a picture of him
... 'cause there's a picture of him, and he looks just like you, Peaches.
Yeah, [laughs] I know.
He looks just like you with a, a, a '50s haircut.
Yeah.
[laughs] And then you got the picture of your dad, and your dad looks a lot different than you.
I mean, there, there's some similarity, but not like your grandpa. You know what's weird? Is I look exactly like my grandpa as well.
Well, when I went to, uh, my, uh, grandpa's funeral, a lot of, uh, people that knew him from way back in the day were like, "Whoa, he looks just like him."
Yeah.
'Cause back then I had the, the hair, the same hairstyle too.
You went with the-
And no beard
... '50s hair, huh?
Yeah.
[laughs]
This is my other grandpa, my mom's dad that served in the Korean War.
Okay. And he looks kinda like a big dude.
Eh, he's, he was not too big.
All right. I mean, oh, he just ... When you see pictures of guys back in the day, they're usually not ... He, he had big arms. You know, you look at soldiers back in the day, they're like 18-year-old kids, you know, all scrawny.
Right.
You know? The m- m- the uniforms kinda hanging off of them.
There's no Gomer Pyle out there.
Yeah, you didn't see a lot of buff guys-
[laughs]
... in pictures from, like, World War II. They're all hungry. Ugh. Have you ever listened to any, like, podcasts about World War I or II and what it was like to be a troop out, like, in the field?
Oh, I know they had, like, 12-year-old kids out there on the battlefield. [laughs]
Dude, it was ... Oh, it's so crazy, man. Just,
like, reading up on what trench warfare was like.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, it's just horrible.
Having to be by your dead homies, you know?
Ah.
Your d- your f- dead fellow soldier there next to you.
Ah.
You're trying to hide.
Yeah, people had to hide under their dead friends.
Yeah.
They'd just pile the bodies on top of them.
And you know dead bodies, they void their bowels, so I'm sure if you lift-
Oh
... the dead body on top of you, there's a-
No, no
... there's a, a, there's a big mess.
Yeah. It's like a, you know, when we get a good rain like we're having today, and, you know, every once in a while a stream will just appear out of nowhere. [laughs] Like, I didn't realize the water flowed this direction. [laughs]
[laughs]
That's very weird.
Wow.
[laughs]
Sorry, guys. It's been a long couple weeks. [laughs]
Jeff ... Okay, Jeff, come on in here.
Yeah. Come walk by and peek in, and then not come in it.
No, no, it wasn't Jeff the first time. I got-
Oh, okay. Okay.
Je- Jeff's rather cool. He'll come in here.
Jeff will come in. You'll wanna use this mic, Jeff, right here.
This guy?
Yeah, that guy right there.
Okay.
We got Jeff, who's on weekends on KBEAR.
Jeff, did you have a family member jump out of planes in the Korean War?
No.
Okay.
Well-
See, I told you-
... not that I know of
... I told you my grandpa's a loser. [laughs]
[laughs] Jesus.
I don't know if that's how I'd phrase that.
No, what's funny is my dad would, like ... Well, the, he, my dad and his family would go on beach days, of course. And so my grandpa would go out into the middle of the ocean. Like, he would just swim all the way out there, and all you see is this giant white floating belly.
[laughs]
They'd be like, well ... They would go like, "Where's Grandpa?" And they'd look out-
[laughs]
... and they would see the Spruce Goose dome-
[laughs]
... just his stomach.
[laughs]
There's Grandpa. 'Cause when, like, when you jump out of planes and you land in water, you just have to float.
Yeah, I guess so.
Until you finally reach land.
A boat.
Yeah. And so, or-
That sounds horrible
... so, like, I, I'm actually pretty good at floating myself. [laughs]
[laughs]
So I must have inherited that skill.
[laughs]
I sometimes go look. I'm Gran- I'm, I'm my grandpa, and I, like, float in my friend's pool-
[laughs]
... at his apartment complex. They just see a big white belly sticking up. [laughs]
[laughs]
They probably really think you're crazy when you say that, don't they?
Yeah. [laughs]
[laughs] [upbeat music] It's the noon hour of madness and mayhem. I'm Victor.
I'm Peaches.
I'm FJ.
Did you hear about this ... Did you hear the story, by the way, about that guy in Texas, um, that gets stuck in the outhouse, like below the toilet seat?
I might have.
Did he drop his sunglasses in there?
Was he t- Yeah, when he was trying to get his phone, right?
No, there ... It was a TMZ article that I saw. I think it was in Arlington, Texas, where this guy, like, got trapped in the toilet-
Yeah, I-
... of a porta potty.
I think I did see that story, but I-
Th- that's a really popular thing to have happen to you lately.
Yeah.
Like what you mentioned with the campsite guy? Yeah.
There was at least one guy who tried to get his phone out.
Yeah?
And yeah, fell into a, a vaulted toilet and got stuck.
There was somebody who dropped their sunglasses in.
Oh, let me-
Then there was a lady in Australia that did it, and she was, like, in the middle of nowhere.
Oh, crikey. [laughs]
Five hours in the crapper.
[laughs] Oh, you call that a turd?
[laughs]
I'll show you a turd.
[laughs]
[laughs] Throw some shrimp on the barbie.
Can you imagine how bad an Australian outhouse would be? [laughs]
In the middle of the summer.
You got snakes.
[laughs]
You got spiders. You got turds. You got-
You don't gotta worry about the dingoes. [laughs]
[laughs] No.
What a horrible place to just have to use an outhouse, let alone get stuck in it.
Oh, crikey, mate.
Uh, yeah-
[laughs]
... I went to TMZ, and the, uh, very first thing that popped up was, uh, articles about explosive diarrhea. You know, that's a very popular topic right now. Um, TMZ's just kinda moved along from doing, uh, celebrity news, haven't they? They just do, like, all news 'cause they got explosive diarrhea. They got, uh ... Oh, that's an unpleasant story. I won't even read that one.
Oh, boy.
Uh,
information about that, uh, mur- alleged murderer guy, Dforvid or David or whatever his name is.
So this guy, yeah, man trapped under porta potty seat rescued by Kansas City firefighters. And instead of helping, somebody recorded him and then-
[laughs]
... sent the video to TMZ.
[laughs]
[laughs]
And his face is all-
There's video of him in the toilet?
Yeah, there's, there's pictures of him getting rescued by the firefighters. You see some guy standing over him, and he's just in the toilet. [laughs]
Okay.
Well, that's the important thing, is getting video. [laughs]
I, I-
I'm not gonna touch the guy if he's been in there
... there we go. Kansas City man ... Okay, I like their headline. Kansas City firefighters rescue man from crappy situation.
Yeah, yeah.
[laughs]
[laughs]
There is video. I, I ...
Okay, they open the door. You see the toilet. I think I see it. He's got, like, an arm coming out.
[laughs]
Oh, man, and that-
The creature of the poo lagoon. [laughs]
How did he get in there? That's not even, like, a vaulted toilet. That's just, like, a-
Yeah
... that's a normal-
How do you fall in the toilet?
Yeah, 'cause this toilet has a much smaller hole than a-
[laughs]
... vaulted toilet, like Jeff pointed out.
Like, I, like, I-
Vaulted toilets are, are, they, if you lift-
They're deep
... the seat up, they're deep and they got a big hole.
Oh, yeah.
This is a regular, old-
I'm gonna clip that. They're deep and they got a big hole.
[laughs]
[laughs]
These four firefighters. Oh, he's got the, he's got a Sawzall out. [laughs]
Oh.
Having to Sawzall the toilet. [laughs]
That would be the worst.
Oh, man.
Really cutting into the crap today.
Oh, geez.
Jeff. [laughs]
Yeah, yeah, they cut a chunk out of the side, and they did it from the top so that the, [laughs] you know, the dookie wouldn't come pouring out. [laughs]
We just watched the, uh, the, uh, the latest Johnny Knoxville and friends movie.
Oh, is it good?
And, uh-
Oh, wait, you told me you didn't like it.
No, but they replayed the, uh, the poo cocktail where they attach Steve-O to the toilet-
Oh.
Oh, that one's so good
... and, and bungee jump him. Yeah. [laughs]
That one's so funny.
Oh.
So funny.
There's a, there's a pretzel stunt that they do. I'm not gonna spoil it.
Okay.
But it's called, like, the human pretzel, or ... And it's quite disgusting.
All right. I wonder if that, uh ... Is that playing at, uh, any theaters-
Yeah
... in town-
Yeah, yeah
... right now?
No, it's only playing at Fat Cats in Rexburg. [laughs]
Well, that's where I-
Perfect place for it. [laughs]
That's where I'd like to go see it, for sure. Let's see. Um, ah, it doesn't matter. I'll look it up off air. We gotta get out of here, Pete.
Yeah.
This is, like, time for us to go get some food and stuff.
Hey, uh, Jeff, can you get stuck in the p- the potty here? I wanna s- I wanna see Andrea's reaction-
I don't know how-
... to that
... that guy got stuck in that one. I, I don't know how I'm gonna get stuck in this one.
We might go-
I might get a foot in there.
We need, we need little Russell.
Which is more baffling, getting stuck in that porta potty or black sludge getting poured down a toilet drain? [laughs]
[laughs]
[laughs]
Just, you know, mysterious black sludge. Which one makes more sense?
We should have called the firefighters to help us out. That black sludge situation. I wonder, I still wonder what exactly that is.
I should ask Lieutenant Crane if he had any ideas. You know, he, he's been in rescue situations. I gotta remember to ask him if he's had, ever had to rescue someone from a toilet.
He's a tiny guy. He might have fallen in the toilet behind him. [laughs]
[laughs]
They send him in to rescue people. [laughs]
He has a rope and a hat with a light on it.
[laughs]
[laughs]
