OK Solberg:

I wanna again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Get your cup of coffee, glass of iced tea, bottle of water. Let's see what's happening.

OK Solberg:

We're in the month of July. Spring wheat, $5.41 a bushel. Here I see 585lb steer calf, 11 head in Billings, 585lb apiece, brought $4.96 a pound, and a 100lb fat lamb in Billings $3.32 a pound. But guys, there's more, much more.

OK Solberg:

Okay. Okay. I haven't spoke a word about baseball for, well, for a really long time. With the current season just about exactly halfway through, let's look at what one person believes are some of the top World Series ever played.

OK Solberg:

See what you think. Alright? Now he had a list of 10, and I'm not gonna read them all. But in that list of 10 wasn't the one that I thought should be there.

OK Solberg:

Number 1, they have 1975 World Series Red Sox versus Reds. Often called one of the greatest World Series ever played. It features 6 one run games and the unforgettable game 6. Carlton Fisk's dramatic 12 inning home run waving the ball fair as it sailed towards the left field foul pole became one of baseball's most iconic moments, although Cincinnati won the championship in 7 games.

OK Solberg:

Another one they list is the 1986 World Series Mets versus Red Sox. This series is forever remembered for the astonishing game 6 comeback by the Mets. With Boston one strike away from winning its championship for the 1st time since 1918, a series of unlikely plays including Mookie Wilson's ground ball that rolled through Bill Buckner's legs sent the series to game 7 where New York completed the comeback.

OK Solberg:

Number 3 on their list, Cubs versus Indians. Hey, any Cubs fans out there? The Cubs ended the longest championship drought in Major League Baseball by winning their 1st World Series since 1908. 2016 hadn't been won since 1908. Game 7 featured a rain delay late inning drama and a 10 inning victory that finally lifted generations of frustration from Chicago fans. Okay?

OK Solberg:

Then we have 1952 Yankees versus Dodgers. Well, you're talking about the right teams, but not the right year, in my opinion. 1952, this was another chapter in the classic Yankees, Dodgers rivalry that defined baseball in the 1940's and 1950's. Brooklyn pushed the powerful Yankees to 7 games before, sadly but true, New York captured its 4th consecutive World Series title.

OK Solberg:

About 1997, Marlins versus Indians. The expansion Marlins won the championship in only their 5th season, the fastest expansion team ever to do so at that time. Great one.

OK Solberg:

Then they also have 1988 Dodgers versus the Athletics. This series is remembered primarily for Kirk Gibson's unforgettable pinch hit home run-in game 1. Barely able to walk because of injuries to both legs, Gibson hit a dramatic game winning homer of a hall of famer, closer Dennis Eckersley, inspiring the Dodgers to an unlikely 5 game championship.

OK Solberg:

But in their list of 10, and I'm not gonna take time to read them all, They don't have this one. This is just one person's opinion, but I'll tell you the one that I believe is the absolute best and at the tip top.

OK Solberg:

I believe the 1955 World Series is that one. It was the 1st time Brooklyn ever won the World Series, and they get did it in game 7 at Yankee Stadium after years of heartbreak against their crosstown rivals. The Dodgers finally defeated the mighty Yankees, giving Brooklyn fans a championship that they had waited generations to celebrate.

OK Solberg:

It wasn't just a World Series victory. It forever transformed the legacy of the boys of summer and remains one of baseball's most beloved triumphs. Who was on the mound for the Dodgers? Johnny Padres. What day was it? 10/04/1955. Where were they at? Yankee Stadium.

OK Solberg:

Remember the days of old. Consider the years of many generation. Ask your father, and he will show you your elders, and they will tell you. Deuteronomy 32:7

OK Solberg:

So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
