IN NATIONAL NEWS,
The Trump administration plans to remove 760,000 Affordable Care Act enrollees due to fraud claims. This was announced on Tuesday with Vance claiming the cancellation of subsidy payments would result in 2.2 billion dollars in cost savings. Vance is leading a task force to crack down on fraud and claims the government was not previously checking whether people enrolled were eligible. 315,000 enrollments are going to be cancelled with 419,000 enrollments needing additional verification to ensure participants are eligible. Additionally, the administration announced a six-month suspension on new agents or brokers who sign up enrollees for healthcare coverage. However, officials say they have committed a disproportionate amount of the fraud the administration had uncovered. Around 19.2 million Americans are enrolled actively in ACA healthcare plans as of early 2026. The price for ACA insurance has only risen, with premiums being doubled or tripled for many enrollees during Trump’s second term. This was following Republican's opposition toward extending Covid subsidies to offset the health insurance costs for enrollees. This led many to either downgrade their plan or leave it entirely.
ALSO IN NATIONAL NEWS,
Trump’s approval rating has fallen to a record low of 32%, primarily due to high costs. According to a new Reuters/Ipsus poll, Republicans are unhappy with Trump’s handling of the cost of living during the costly Iran war. This four day poll was closed on Sunday and showed that only 73% of Republicans approved of Trump’s performance compared to 82% from the previous polling. Following his swearing in January of 2025, he stood at a 47% approval rating. Only 17% of responders approved of his handling of the cost of living, which is a deciding factor in the upcoming midterm elections occurring November 3. The war in Iran, which began in February, has only furthered rising costs, spiking diesel and gas prices. Registered voters in the poll claimed they would pick Democrats over Republicans in the upcoming midterms. This 8-point gap is the largest lead for Democrats in the polls this year.
IN INTERNATIONAL NEWS,
Trump signed the U.S.-Denmark-Greenland agreement to strengthen security in the Arctic and North Atlantic on Tuesday. Historically, Trump expressed his desire for Greenland to become part of the U.S. and threatened to seize it from Denmark, a NATO ally. He did not respond to questions on if this request was still a possibility. Trump’s hand in Greenland to address security concerns led to a worried relationship with NATO members. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that a U.S. takeover would lead to the end of their Atlantic alliance. This led many European Union partners to take a step back from the U.S. and bolster their monetary support of Greenland.
