What is Manna Monday?

The Team at the Real Health Co. shares a weekly message to help you center yourself and start your week off strong!

Dr. Barrett:

There's a phrase that's been just ripping in my heart lately, and it's your obsession becomes your possession. What you obsess about is what you'll possess. And it can be a really good thing. But today, we're gonna talk about how obsessions can inevitably rule you. Right?

Dr. Barrett:

And so when we think about this week, as we look forward to making strides and growing, We also want to be mindful if anything has attached to us that's ruling over us. That initially, maybe we thought as being beneficial. And it was. It was noble, but it ends up ruling us. And what you chase will eventually hold a leash.

Dr. Barrett:

So today's episode, your obsession becomes your possession. So have you ever thought or felt owned by the very thing that you thought would actually set you free, so whether that's work or fitness or food or biohacks, this one's for you. So hey, welcome to Manna Monday. Let's dive in. Obsession typically starts noble.

Dr. Barrett:

Discipline, focus, excellence. But focus without boundaries inevitably becomes just fixation, and then fixation without a deep rooted purpose inevitably becomes bondage. And the brain loves certainty, and it loves dopamine hits. So when we keep tightening the rules, and it's more steps and it's stricter macros and it's heavier lifts and it's longer hours, inevitably, until the pursuit becomes the prison, the pursuit of more, more, more inevitably leaves you imprisoned to to that. When when the metric replaces the meaning, you're not using it, you're not using the tool.

Dr. Barrett:

The tool is inevitably using you. So three things, three signs this week. Think about it. Three signs if your pursuit of of fitness, finances, health hacks, if your pursuit is owning you, one, that it crowds out relationships. So if progress feels threatened by people you love, that's a warning.

Dr. Barrett:

It rewrites your identity. It I missed a workout, therefore I'm a failure. Right? Or I didn't have a great score at a- on a golf round. I'm a failure.

Dr. Barrett:

I'm a loser. So it rewrites your identity. Number three, it steals your peace. When what you pursued was noble and inevitably robs your peace, it's probably owning you in this season. So what's a better aim?

Dr. Barrett:

It's devotion, not obsession. Obsession says everything for this one thing. Devotion says this one thing shapes everything in order. There's an order. Devotion is ordered love.

Dr. Barrett:

It's pursuing health so that you build something to bless others. Right? Everything is an extension of that one thing you're accomplishing. So it's training your body as a steward, not as an idol. And when love is ordered, practices become sustainable.

Dr. Barrett:

You know, discipline fits into life, and they can't devour it. So this week, think about the things that you're pursuing and whether they're ordered, whether it brings you peace, whether it brings you joy, or does it rule over you? Does it create anxiety? Does it change your identity? And the best way to address those areas is to inevitably surrender to the reality that they're controlling you.

Dr. Barrett:

So give them up. Give them up for a day, a week, even a month. It's okay. You're going to be okay. If it's hard for you to do that, you're possessed by it.

Dr. Barrett:

It has its control over you. But usually when we put it in order and we surrender it to the Lord, say, "hey Lord, this is yours. Help me get the right perspective over it again." He can shift your heart back to Him being first and everything else being in order. Thanks for listening to Manna Monday.
