Regulatory news, updates, and insights for India presented by the Carver Agents team

Welcome to Carver's India Regulatory Updates.

The Ministry of Coal, Government of India, recently conducted a workshop focused on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, or DPDP Act. This workshop aimed to enhance understanding and institutional capacity among government officials for compliance with the new data protection framework. The initiative is designed to strengthen awareness of the DPDP Act and its rules, build institutional capacity for compliance, and emphasize practical requirements for protecting personal data within government systems.

In mining sector developments, the proposed Adegav Chunakhadi Mining Project in India has updated its mining plan validity and environmental management details for the period from 2023 to 2028. The updated plan includes specifics on mining reserves, mining methods, and environmental management measures such as dust extraction and water sprinkling. Additionally, the project will implement regular environmental monitoring programs covering air, noise, water, and soil quality.

Turning to trade regulation, India has initiated a new trade defence investigation under case number R872. This investigation is an expiry review to determine whether existing anti-dumping or anti-subsidy measures should be maintained, amended, or terminated. The investigation includes an indicative timetable and procedural steps for interested parties. Parties involved must follow instructions outlined in the Notice of Initiation for submissions and correspondence. They may also submit comments on provisional and final disclosures within specified deadlines. Furthermore, the investigating commission may conduct verification visits during the investigation period.

In product registration updates, the Bureau of Indian Standards has clarified the registration process for products under the Compulsory Registration Scheme, or CRS. The update provides step-by-step instructions for generating test requests, selecting BIS-recognized laboratories, submitting samples, and applying for licenses online through the BIS portal. Key requirements include generating a test request and selecting a BIS-recognized laboratory for product testing, submitting the sample and test request to the laboratory within 60 days of generating the test request, and applying for the license online within 90 days of receiving the test report using a verified test report. The update also details document checklists and affidavit requirements.
