Hey. Good morning. Welcome back to Help Me Podcast. This is episode
78. And in today's episode, we're gonna talk about
starting a podcast with other people who are also starting a podcast.
So this kinda concept or episode idea came
from something that I've been accepted into
recently and a new thing that I'm starting. So
back a while ago, I applied to be part of this, groundwork
pre accelerator program that's through this
organization in New Haven called Collab. They do a lot of different sort of,
like, cohorts for entrepreneurs and for business owners and for food
business owners. And and recently, I got accepted into their
groundwork program, which is kind of the pre accelerator
program to their normal business accelerator program.
And it's kinda aimed at, like, new businesses and new ideas.
And it's a 5 week workshop series, where you work
with I think it's, like, 20 people, all led
by somebody from Collab and kinda works you through this
program, and you all kinda get to go through it together. And so
I applied for it for kind of this new business idea that I have, and
I got accepted, which I was really excited about. And on Monday, I
actually had my 1st session, and it was just it
was really cool. It was a lot different than what I thought it was gonna
be in a in a good way. Like, I I thought it was gonna be
more so, like, you know, here's some basic business
principles. Here's what you should be doing, business plan, blah blah blah, and kinda just,
like, run you through some PowerPoints. But it ended up being, like, way more
collaborative than I thought. And that got me
really excited about, like, being able to build something
or grow something together with the other people that were also in the cohort.
And I think that's kinda like the strength of the cohort. It's not necessarily
like the principles that they're talking about or I mean, you know, of course, I've
only been to 1, but It wasn't necessarily like them just telling us
important information. It was like, hey. Here's some information. Now here's some
prompts, and, like go think about them and go think
about them in a group of people. So what they did was,
like, they broke us out. I think there was, like, 20 or so of us.
And then they broke us out into these groups of 4 people to
where you then discussed, like, the topic between each other.
And It was really interesting, the people that I got matched up with and,
like, how much we had in common and, like, how much we learned from each
other. And, like, you can. I don't know. There's something interesting, like, when you're doing
something with somebody who's kinda, like, at the same stage as you. Like, you can
see for at at least for me, like, there was points where, like, I
saw people's, like, shyness or, like, their
non confidence in themselves. And, like, me seeing that in them
could be like, no. You have nothing to worry about. Like, that's awesome idea. Or,
like, you know, you gotta give it time. Like, it's a new thing. Like, think
about it in this way or, like you know, to to basically not to be,
like, as hard on yourself. Because when you're seeing somebody else, like, struggling through
something, you're like, oh, like, you you know, it's not that serious. You don't have
to be that hard on yourself. Like, maybe think of it in a different way.
And when you do that, it, like, also makes you reflect on
yourself and and then makes you judge yourself less with
your own ideas. So there's this weird, like, new perspective that
you get from working with people who are kinda at a similar
stage than you. Maybe they're not doing the exact same thing, but, you know, they're
not doing the same exact business as me, but they're doing a new
idea or a new business. And I I guess what I'm trying to say is,
like, I was surprised at how much I took away from that.
Not necessarily somebody teaching me something, but, like,
us kinda teaching each other. And, that kinda
got me thinking. You know, I've always, like, kicked around this idea of, like, having
some sort of, like, online cohort for podcasting. I have
a lot of people that, like, come to me that wanna start a podcast.
And, you know, if they wanna work with me 1 on 1, it usually ends
up being pretty expensive. And most people don't have that budget, which I totally
understand. So in problem solving now, I always thought about,
like, you know, how can I make this more affordable for people or how
can I How can I help people in a way that
also works for me and for them? So, you know, the
online cohort thing came to mind, but but I think I wasn't really thinking about
it in this way. I think I was thinking of it more so, like, I'm
gonna be teaching somebody something every week, and then they'll go home and have homework.
And, You know, at the end of it, they'll have a podcast. And that
puts a lot of it on me, I guess, to to make sure
everybody's, like, following along and everybody understands and, you
and I never, you know, pursued that idea,
partially because it maybe it seemed like a lot of work upfront on
my end. And I don't know. It kinda just, like, fell out of focus, I
guess. But now, you know, after doing this accelerator program,
this Groundwork accelerator program. It's given me, like, an example
of, like, how you could do that. And And and what excited
me about it was that, like, it wasn't about the
teaching aspect of it, although that was part of it. It was more so about,
like, people learning from each other. And, that kinda got me, like,
reexcited about the idea. So something that I'll be thinking about in the
future, Basically, what I'm envisioning is, like, a group of, like,
10 or 15, maybe 20 new podcasters who haven't
started a podcast yet. And it's sort of a, like, 10 week
program. And I can sort of facilitate the
learning and, like, give some basic principles about podcasting and, like, you
know, answer questions if if I have the answer and I'm able to
provide some sort of help, but more so so people can, like,
together create something and kinda bounce off of each other. And, like I
mean, I I I can envision even, like, you know, 2 people who have a
similar idea joining and being a cohost. And, like, you know,
now they go and start off their podcast together. And, I really like the idea
of being able to, like, facilitate that and having
people go out on their own, learn, and then go out on their own and
be able to be self sufficient and not have to pay for podcast, you
know, recording or to a studio or anything like that, they can go and they
can make their own show. And yeah. I don't know.
It just I I kinda really like that idea again and coming back to
it. So, yeah. If any if that sounds interesting to any of you,
definitely send me an email. My email is always in the show notes. Maybe
that's something I'll be pursuing. Maybe it won't be. But I'd
love to know if anybody would be interested in, like, participating in a program like
that. But, yeah, I'd I'd be thinking about it some more.
And, also, you know, any anybody can can go and do
this. You know, you don't need to wait for me to, like, go start a
program like this. But I'll you know, I'll have more to come if if I
end up pursuing the idea and starting it. You all will be the 1st to
know, if I ever do launch that. But, for
now, stay tuned. Hopefully, this episode was
inspiring and give you some more ideas about how you can start a podcast
with community and you not have to do it alone. And I
think that that is a a huge help in anything that
you're doing in life. Being able to have people around you to support you
can help you be more successful than you can on your
own sometimes. And yeah. So thank you for tuning in and I
will see you on the next episode. We've reached the end of the
episode. And if you enjoyed this podcast or you got something from
