I.
It is 20 hours past midnight after a rather dour and cool one to start the work week, and as always whatever the weather we’re ready to help you shake it off to start the fun this week. This is Danno as always as ever betwixt the hours of 8 & 10 on GFN, and thanks for joining us as always. It’s Monday night and we’re hoping you had a lovely weekend, and naturally, the start of the work week means we have all the new tunes we can possibly cram into two hours of programming until 10pm tonight. Now, for all you fellow jazz heads, this weekend we lost a legend but we’ll save the history for the very end of the hour tonight, so let’s dive right into the new stuff now. We open with another tagteam duet from Gus Dapperton and BENEE to get this jalopy rolling, and we’ll talk more about what to know about after the opening swerve. THIS is The Drop.
Gus Dapperton & BENEE – Don’t Let Me Down
Back on The Drop, how’s it going tonight, Drop Tops? Cheers for getting with the program tonight whether now or later, and this is Danno, doing the usual dance for our Monday night where we let all the new tunes we dug just out over the past week spread their wings a bit.
#9870, @gfnthedrop, podcast details, etc.
That was Gus Dapperton and BENEE off of the former’s upcoming studio album, and that tune was called Don’t Let Me Down. When last we saw these two link up, it was on a tune called Supalonely, which was a viral hit in the early days of the pandemic.
Now, the New Yorker and Aussie artists have teamed up again, and this will feature on HENGE, which is Dapperton’s latest LP out July 7. There’s also an accompanying video which sees the artists don some very old timey garb, so go check that out if you dug the audio aspect.
Now, let’s get further into the new stuff and take our first proper dive into the cellophane. We got PawPaw Rod, Arlo Parks, and Goth Babe up next to continue in the vein of the opening salvo, and we’ll talk more after the sky triangle is drawn. This is The Drop on your New Muses Monday night.
_________

The Drop is back and our last verbal shots are right now for part 1 tonight. Danno here drawing the triads for the full two hours tonight, and that was our very first of this evening’s programming so let’s have you know a bit about it. That was…
PawPaw Rod – Is It Magic? (…one of many very strong indie artists out of Oklahoma nowadays, this is t/n Rodney Hulsey’s latest. More of a feel good anthem than most of Hulsey’s past works, this one still has the hint or more of funk in its DNA which has become a trademark no matter the style played.)
Arlo Parks – Blades (…the latest single from the artist’s upcoming sophomore LP is out as of Friday. My Soft Machine will be out May 26, and Parks has a show coming up in Korea in early July, if you wanna go peep that show and get some tix.)
Goth Babe – Alone In The Mountains (…our favorite indie nomad is back with this new joint over the weekend. Earlier this year, Goth Babe did an EP based on travelling to Iceland, and this one was dedicated to Earth Day and timed to coincide with it.)
Now, that’s gonna do it for now at least from me and the blah blah blah stuff, but we have a few more tunes to taste test before our first stanza is written. Up next we have a new one from Mac DeMarco called 20200817 Proud True Toyota, just a standalone and I hope it’s not a paid message. After that we have two blinks I love you aka pizzagirl with a tune called birthday surprise, and we’ll finish the latest from Sir Chloe called Know Better, which is from the upcoming I Am The Dog LP, out May 19. (recap). THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday night.

The Drop returns and into the molasses jar we have gone for tonight’s radio adventure. Danno here, this is what I do, and thanks to all of you for tuning in tonight whether in the present or later on. Let’s do the info kiosk on what just got sent up in the space elevator...
beabadoobee feat Clairo – Glue Song (…a little remake here, as the London-based Philippine artist released the original of this tune on Valentine’s Day. The artist is currently on tour opening for the Florida-Georgia-Texas leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, by the way, so big doings there.)
Superviolet – Dream Dating (…we highlighted another tune from this album just last week or maybe the week before, but now it’s finally here. This is the project of Steve Ciolek, whose new album Infinite Spring just dropped Friday. If that name rings a bell, the artist was a member of The Sidekicks, now plying the trade solo as Superviolet.)
Moving along SM, #9870, podcast let us know …
Next block we’ll sketch another triangle in space and watch it disintegrate in glitter. On deck we got Hannah Jadagu, Bathe Alone, and Dreamer Isioma ready for their closeups and in said order, all of which we’ll talk but not drone about at the after party. THIS is The Drop.
_________
Back on The Drop and final mic spit starts right now for the first half before we start poppin off. Danno here, not making the donuts, but certainly distributing them with care, and it is our New Muses Monday thank you once again for getting with the program tonight. Hugs...
Hannah Jadagu – Admit It (…this is the latest single from the upcoming and highly anticipated Aperture LP, which drops in full on May 19. Here, the artist is dedicating the track to her sister, who she says has been a source of boundless energy and impeccable taste since Jadagu was very young.)
Bathe Alone – Awfully Quiet (…this is a new addition to the Nettwerk label, t/n Bailey Crone, who hails from Atlanta. Bathe Alone has certainly been an artist to watch recently, and this one is about how we see ourselves in the world, according to a statement from the artist via the label.)
Dreamer Isioma – Gimme A Chance* (…and finally, for our new tunes here in the first hour and just generally, the Chicago-based artist is out with Princess Forever, which they self-released on Friday. Definitely a different and more diverse sound within on this sophomore record, go check if you liked that last number in the block.)
So that’s it for our favorites for the first half, and I did allude earlier to some rather sad news at the top of the hour, and tonight we dedicate the show to the legendary Ahmad Jamal, who passed over the weekend. Jamal was a gifted musician, composer and band leader whose ability on the keys was a thing to behold. Unlike many in jazz, Jamal was able over the years to transcend genres, and we’ll give a perfect example of both the skills and the transcendence as we bid Ahmad Jamal farewell tonight. THIS is The Drop at halftime.
Ahmad Jamal – I Love Music

III Poppin Off
The Weeknd feat Future – Double Fantasy
Agust D – Haegeum
Grupo Frontera feat Bad Bunny – un x100to
Feid feat Sean Paul – Niña Bonita
Ed Sheeran – Boat
The Kid LAROI – WHERE DOES YOUR SPIRIT GO?
Christine & The Queens feat 070 Shake – True love

The Weeknd feat Future – Double Fantasy
- This tune features on the soundtrack for the upcoming HBO series The Idol, which is directed by Sam Levinson.
- T/n Abel Tesfaye has been rather adept at avoiding controversy and drama, but it seems this show has been mired in production problems and the content is very graphic.
- We’ll see what happens later, but this would be the first tune featured on the show’s soundtrack, and The Idol premieres June 3 which also features Jenny from BLACKPINK.
Agust D – Haegeum
- For those unaware, this would be the alter ego of BTS’ Suga, who obviously has been a very busy artist.
- Of course, this translation has a bit of a double meaning as the simply put one is unlock, but this is also a Korean traditional instrument.
- The song is more about the former, and deals with allowing or unlocking one’s true potential, which was explained in an interview with IU that you can go check out.
Grupo Frontera feat Bad Bunny – un x100to
- For those not familiar with the former, they are a Mexican band originally out of the US who rose to prominence with a very popular cover of a song by Colombian band Morat called “No te va,” or “You’re a no go” or “you won’t do.”
- Now the group has teamed up with Bad Bunny on this track which means one hundred, but I gotta point out (sp.)
Feid feat Sean Paul – Niña Bonita
- Just released last Thursday, we got a little collab combo between Colombia and Jamaica right here.
- Dropped as Feid kicked off his US Tour last Thursday, this song is about coming forth with your feelings for someone.
Ed Sheeran – Boat
- This is the latest single from Sheeran’s upcoming album out May 5 called minus.
- Here we see Sheeran struggling with depression, using the boat as a metaphor for keeping the water and therefore drowning and the isolation that comes with being trapped therein.
The Kid LAROI – WHERE DOES YOUR SPIRIT GO?
- This tune is off the artist’s debut album THE FIRST TIME, reminiscing on not being able to ever go back to how things were.
- The album doesn’t yet have an official release date, so this should be out later in the year, summer best case.
Christine & The Queens feat 070 Shake – True love

Part 4 – Fresh K Cuts
kenessi – I wanna
FOOL IN THE POOL – Illusion
JI JIN SEOK feat An Ye Seul – I’ll only give you pretty things
Sonya – Miyaong (Art Cat)
g0nny – All Was Well
JAMBINAI – Time of Extinction
JAMBINAI – from the place that’s been erased

Facts
kenessi – I wanna
- A new single from kenessi right here, their first of 2023.
- If you wanna check more from the artist, check their 2021 EP Diary.
FOOL IN THE POOL – Illusion
- This is a quartet from here in Korea, but not sure where exactly they are based.
- This is a tune from the band’s sophomore LP, Swimming, which dropped on March 28.
JI JIN SEOK feat An Ye Seul – I’ll only give you pretty things
- A new joint right here, very nostalgic from the one nicknamed the earthquake ji-jin.
- The artist made his debut in 2019 after being a contestant who withdrew from the MBC music reality show, which is where most people know him from.
Sonya – Miyaong (Art Cat)
- This tune was also released at the end of March on the 28th, and would be the artist’s 6th career single.
- This tune is the a side of the 7”, with an instrumental on the flip.
- Not sure on much beyond that as far as bio, so we’ll have to leave it there.
g0nny – All Was Well
- Another artist I have very little bio info on, with very little to go on.
- G0nny has been around since debut in 2020, and this ironically enough would also be the artist’s 6th career single release.
JAMBINAI – Time of Extinction
JAMBINAI – from the place that’s been erased
- And finally for tonight, we highlight the metal band JAMBINAI, who also graced the stage at Coachella which just wrapped back in Cali, and as mentioned on the show last week I was Thrilled this band was on the bill.
- For those unfamiliar, this band has been, much like LEENALCHI, a rediscovery of traditional Korean music & instruments, with the band performing an epic variety of metal punctuated both subtly and brutally with Korean traditional instruments.
