practices Jeff brings over a decade of experience
exploring the intersections of astrology

spirituality and working both as a one-on-one
practitioner as well as a community Builder

they're particularly known for their deep work
with planetoids and asteroids bringing much needed

perspective on feminine queer and gender expansive
archetypes into astrological conversation I felt

especially called to have this conversation
today with Jeff as we enter 2025 a year that has

already begun with so much intensity particularly
here where I'm at in Los Angeles where we face

devastating fires displacement and overwhelming
changes I know that many of you can relate to the

we we're feeling due to everything happening in
our country right now I feel like Jeff's unique

for having me on the podcast it's truly an honor
to with you here and to connect with you in this

new space that you're cultivating and I'm just
excited to be here and yeah um my name is Jeff

Hinshaw I also go by trash Canyon which is like
more of my art Persona or performance name which

maybe we'll talk about a little bit today too
and I currently live in the Twenty Nine Palms

area just outside of Joshua Tree like right up
next to the Joshua Tree Park I've only been here

for 6 months as just housing has been a big part
of my own personal Journey but I've been really

connecting into the community this way and I work
as an astrologer and the big bulk of my work as an

astrologer is working with people one-on-one long
term that's my favorite way to support people and

I also am a Tarot practitioner and have studied
tarot and astrology on and off for about the past

15 years or so currently I'm working on a project
with Lonely Planet which is a travel company and

I'm writing and conceptualizing their first ever
travel Tarot deck so right now I've been deep in

that process of what each of the 78 cards are
connected to a different location in the world

so I've been dropping in and learning a lot about
cultures from around the world which really fits

my my birth chart as an aquarius ruled by Saturn
and Uranus and Sagittarius connected to the World

At Large that's been a an a new Focus for me
that has kept me a bit focused in these times

of um Reckoning and transformation and and you
know just we're in the midst of a new period of

time which at some point I think in our convo we
might talk about the the planets that are shifting

signs this here the outer planets it's a big
astrological year but yeah astrology and Tarot and

community and art yeah oh my goodness thank you
so much for sharing super exciting to hear what

you're working on and um also to know that we have
such a wealth of wisdom and knowledge here with

us and you were the first person that I thought
of inviting to talk about this year because it

is such a transformative year such a potent year
such a scary year such an uncertain year there's

so much happening um in this world right now and
I think a lot of people really want to know like

what's this year going to look like and what are
some of the things that are impacting us this year

and I think maybe we can just start to get into
what you're feeling for the theme of this year

especially you know maybe we could start with the
tarot um with the archetype of the hermit I'd love

to hear from you what the hermit represents how
you connect with hermit energy and I can share a

little bit as well after you share love to hear
your perspective too and I'm also you know In

This Moment realizing how much tarot is an anchor
practice for me like it can really ground me and

root me whereas astrology can sometimes be super
activating for like going into more long-term

transits and it can sometimes feel a little bit
scary and some of that might be connected to well

astrology is connected to Aquarius that's Aquarius
is said to be the ruler of astrology and Pluto

has just entered Aquarius and so astrology might
feel a little bit more underworld right now which

I have experienced that so I think connecting
them with the hermit card first it's feels like

an anchor and actually a a grounding tool for
us for sure um and yeah I'm imagining most of

your listeners know but we're talking about the
hermit because it's 2025 and when you add up the

digits at 2025 it equals nine so a lot of us in
the tarot Community will come together around one

archetype for the year and we call it the the year
the card of the year so that's that's the hermit

this year um and um something that I've started
in corporating it into my practice which I'm

always like I always like to weave other practices
together too and I have also since I love animals

I've really loved reflecting on the Chinese zodiac
as well and that's something that the tarot card

of the year and the Chinese zodiac have in common
is that there's one archetype for the entire year

and so I like pairing the card of the year
with the animal and there's some f fascinating

correlations because like last year 2024 was
the year of the dragon and it was a strength

year and there are depictions of instead of a lion
they're being a dragon um and the same is true for

the hermit so in the year of the snake actually if
you go back into um some like I wouldn't call them

ancient because tarot really you know originates
like only a few hundred years ago as far as we

know at least by recorded history it's probably
much more ancient than that for sure but um I'm

thinking of the Hermetic tarot has a snake on the
hermit card and I'm also thinking about there's

a few other ones too there's have you ever
seen tarot of the new vision it's like this

it I no yeah it reimagines like each card like 30
seconds after the original Rider-Waite Tarot like

what happened the moment after the fool decided
to leap off the cliff you know um so the hermit

actually a snake is intertwining up the hermit's
rod and the hermit card in that deck and also in

um the universal worth tarot a snake is at the
hermit's feet and at the base of his staff about

to like come up this the staff so that's what
I'm reflecting on in the year of the snake in

tandem with a Hermit and it feels really powerful
because I think it's getting us into this side of

the hermit where sometimes the hermit has been
renamed to I've seen it as like the shaman I've

seen it as like medicine man I've seen it as um
the Lone Wolf um there's many different depictions

of the hermit card and I think the snake brings in
that alchemical transformative medicinal side to

the hermit that maybe we don't always talk about
with the hermit you know I mean some of the key

words for the hermit would be like introspection
Solitude which is all there but I'm fascinated

about the symbol of the snake and I could go
deeper into it and I will but I kind of want

to pause and leave some room for you just I'd be
curious what that's bringing up for you thinking

on the combo yeah oh my goodness so much yeah I
you know I'm immediately called to uh thinking

about how uh you know some traditions look at the
snake as being in um the South and connected to

the element of fire and to passion and creativity
me transmutation transformation I think about um

a snake's ability to shed skin come a new to grow
to expand uh and also to go into the darkness into

the caves into the underground and to wait and to
hide and to you know kind of um be on the lookout

be ready be prepared and to conserve energy too
like there's so much that's coming up with you

bringing these two archetypes together um and
um I'm just really grateful for you joining them

because I do feel like there is such a potency
when we connect with both of them I'm really

thinking of the ways that we're being called to
to tune into our alchemical Transformations and

also into our creativity and to that fire inside
right that light inside that is guiding us that is

moving us along as we maybe are feeling a little
bit out of sorts or a little bit lost there is a

way that we're being called to tune into that
sacred fire that sacred light that we all have

within so beautifully communicated and I think
communication is also an aspect of the hermit

card that can sometimes get highlighted as well
well in the Hermetic tarot The Hermit card which

is referred to as the Magus of the voice and of
light something like that but the voice of light

to me speaks of invocation and the importance
of using our voice um whether in ritual whether

in art whether in gathering and so thinking of
even you creating this space in this podcast as

a representation of that but the glyph of mercury
will sometimes be seen on the hermit card um and

Virgo is Virgo's card so then the when I think
of the the card of the year I then I start to

incorporate some of the astrological signification
so both Mercury and Virgo are highlighted for us

in 2025 and there's a lot to say about Virgo
but let's start with Mercury because Mercury is

connected to the snake and snakes so Mercury one
of Mercury's stories is that mercury saw I'm going

to this is my paraphrase of him meryy saw two
snakes that were fighting one was a black snake

one was a white snake and Mercury threw his Rod
at the two snakes and the two snakes intertwined

the rod and thus there was an integration of
Duality or polarity and so on one hand we could

think in our own personal life of these kind of
fragmentations of our psyche that are kind of

like fighting with each other um but mercury has
the power to bring them together um and I think

of mercury as a messenger of the underworld too
can travel into the underworld and bring messages

out into the light um so I'm thinking think about
Mercury so curious about where everyone's Mercury

is in their chart in the year of the hermit and
the year of the snake also um I think maybe we

had chatted about Hygiea once before I'm not sure
actually but Hygiea is an asteroid that that is

actually Hygiea's glyph is two snakes intertwining
up a rod um and the black snake could represent

more ancient practices particularly connected to
your own ancestral heritage whereas a White Snake

might connect more to Modern thought our science
and medicine and the integration of these two

parts coming together in an alchemical process
so I mean if we're going down a little rabbit

hole of the hermit it's taking us now to the
asteroid Hygiea curious about Hygiea transits

this year and also Hygiea in your own birth chart
these could be places for um self-discovery but

also are here as an ally to help us navigate this
year that we find herself in 2025 Yeah well yeah

thank you so much for sharing of that and you know
I'm really just sitting with what you brought in

around the bringing together of things that have
been fractured or divided or dualities or binaries

and what happens when you join them and when you
also maybe integrate and thinking of the time that

is needed to integrate the time that is needed
to heal to transcend and also the space how how

we're being called to cultivate space to protect
space to open up space and how these are moments

where we can really tune into the Alchemy or the
things that are wanting to happen especially when

we have so much sodder to work with when it comes
to fracturing to division to binaries there's so

much to bring together and I'm curious for you
you know as you're bringing in these just very

astrological transits and bodies and thinking of
how you named tarot as a grounding practice and

thinking of that connection between the grounding
and the astrological I'm curious how you feel that

this archetype of the hermit is supporting us in
like being a bridge or in helping us integrate the

worldly the Earthly the grounding and also what's
happening um astrologically yeah I can't remember

who said this which tarot thought leader said this
but I feel like it was maybe Rachel Rachel Pollack

is that right 78 degrees of wisdom there was
yeah that is Rachel yeah there was a quote um

I'm going to paraphrase it but it's kind of just
stuck with me through the years where the hermit

um leaves behind Society but does not leave behind
Humanity um and so there is this invitation within

the hermit which I think in some ways Edgar you
have been a role model in this stepping back from

social media for many reasons um that were you
wrote about a newsletter that yeah I think you

were giving voice to a lot of things that I have
been thinking about that I think a lot of people

have been thinking about um but that feels like
a representation of the hermit in many ways if we

think about that quote of leaving behind Society
but not leaving behind humanity and so in some

ways there needs to be a return to our own like
what feels in alignment with our own values and

sometimes that does take us to leave behind things
it's calling to mind a card that has a similar

vibration to the hermit in the tarot which is the
Eight of Cups um I think looks kind of like the

hermit typically it shows an individual walking
into what looks like the Pacific Northwest to me

like some sort of Rocky like Misty oceans side
during an eclipse and when I mention Eclipse it

also makes me think of this year we have eclipses
along the Virgo Pisces access which is also deeply

connected to the hermit which is Virgo so we do
have a Virgo full moon lunar eclipse and March

and then when we get to Virgo season we'll have
a Pisces eclipse and a Virgo eclipse and Pisces

is connected to the Moon card which is number 18
which when you break it down is also a nine card

too so we could also say the Moon is another card
for us this year as well but what those two cards

have in common in a very literal sense is that
they are walking um and I that has been a big

part of my practice and where I really feel the
hermit alive in my own personal daytoday is really

I mean on a metaphorical level like those of us
who are walking a more esoteric path or a more

spiritual path we are really moving through an
initiation right now um our knowledge is growing

immensely our power is growing immensely and
there may be times where we actually feel like

we need to take our gifts into an underground
place or into a a more private place or a more

sacred place for our own protection but also so
that we can live in alignment with our values and

the future that we want to co-create together I
think the hermit stands for all of these themes

so on the metaphorical senses those of us who are
walking this spiritual path or esoteric path on

this planet um in a literal sense that's part of
my art as a spell too as I go on long walks in the

morning particularly like in the desert I'm very
sensitive to sun exposure so I can really only

be outside like early in the morning or around
Sunset and in the evening and so I've been going

on these long walks and I was mentioning trash
Canyon as like you know another Persona of mine

and I pick up trash on my walks um and what's
been fascinating about being in the desert is

that the quote unquote trash out here is actually
a lot of shattered glass is everywhere scattered

across the the desert floor and so it's been
beautiful to pick up shattered glass while at

the same time just reflecting on the devastation
of things that are shattered our dreams that are

shattered our Collective grief that we hold
around consumerism and waste and capitalism

and all the things so it becomes this meditation
of like I can't well I can pick up glass and then

that's kind of evolved over time to me having so
much glass that I now need to organize them into

10 different categories and so I then went to a
thrift store and got a table and set up a station

in my backyard where I'm sorting glass and then
that has evolved into one day on a walk I picked

up this like old wooden tabletop that was just
like thrown to to the bushes in the desert and

I brought that home and and then I realized oh
it's eight-sided this is like the eight-sided

side of the Celtic or Pagan wheel of the year
and so now I'm separating the glass into eight

categories for the different Celtic holidays like
Sal and imul and oara and all of the different

ones and So eventually I'm going to Mosaic
them on the wheel so my art process and my my

spiritual practices are intricately linked to one
another they feed each other and really they have

no separation and I feel like in this moment that
that is separate from any kind of offering that I

have because we also live in late stage capitalism
and we have rent to pay and things that we must do

so tarot and astrology has somehow gotten like
pulled into the tidal wave of of capitalism and

making money in some ways so my art practice is
actually completely separate and it's for me um

and then I can also share that with other
people too so the hermit here for me has me

reflecting on those themes in my life my daily
spiritual practices I think are also connected

to the hermit as well and I lit this candle
that I sometimes will do trades with other

queer artists so I gave an astrology reading to
a queer artist in Atlanta who makes candles and

I'm bringing awareness to the flame because of
the hermit and the lantern so I'm also thinking

about the import of keeping the light going and so
this candle says for cultivating protection around

daily practice um so that feels very hermit to me
too so just calling to mind our art practices and

spiritual practices and that relationship it holds
to the hermit archetype yeah wow yeah you just

shared so much like I'm just really sitting with
what you naming around how Mystics and artists

uh we are being called to go underground or to
protect or to create spaces for um underground

conversations and connection and also you bringing
in Daily practice and that connection between

your artistic and spiritual practices um I'm just
really in awe of how you are starting to integrate

something that is fractured right and thinking
of that Duality that binary that shattering

and how you're using your daily meditation your
daily walks as a way to integrate right and as

a way to bring together something into a spell
into artwork and I'm curious Jeff like just as

you are connecting with this daily do you have a
sense of what kind of spell is being cast through

you do you have a sense of what's coming together
it's totally okay if you don't cuz I know in our

practice we can be so much in process but I'm
just curious if you have a sense of what your

spell is wanting to bring into this world I I
really like the way you worded that question

and I think that yeah it's all it's always in
process and you know when I started picking up

glass the first day that I did when I was out
here I had no idea what it was what I was going

to create with it and so that wheel of the year
that I'm creating right now feels like part of

the spell where it is the honoring of the cycles
of Nature and the honoring of mother and the Earth

and yeah there's this even though we're in a very
uncertain time particularly in relationship to

the environment which I do want to speak to
one of these transits this year that speaks

to the environment just reminding myself in this
moment um that you know we still have spring like

spring is still here and the seasons may even be
shifting and changing but there is there is this

this constant at least if it's if the actual
Seasons feel like they're kind of Shifting and

changing right now the light of the sun is not
changing like you know when it's the darkest day

of the year it's the darkest day of the year and
when it's summer solstice it's summer solstice

so we still have these constants to connect
to and honor and I so I think living more in

alignment with the planets the Sun and the Moon um
is part of my spell I mean that when I was hosting

my podcast it was I always released it on the new
and the full moon so I've always been connected to

honoring um these celestial bodies that offer us
inspiration and hope and insight so yeah I think

that's part of my spell for sure yeah and I'm just
really seeing how that connects to the hermit it's

this way of um you know disconnecting from the
world and as you said to reconnect with the human

reconnect with the natural right with what wants
to happen in a natural cycle and I think I can

really understand why so many people are being
called to kind of reconsider their relationship

with media or with needing to be public or needing
to catch up or be along with a speed or with a

cycle process that doesn't feel in alignment with
what's wanting to happen in nature or what happens

in nature right and as we know Nature has those
moments of molting of germinating of decomposing

of resting and these are things that capitalism
doesn't know how to integrate into its own world

right and I think many of us are being called to
reconsider and to question and to also reimagine

what is possible with time what is possible with
space what is possible with our practices and with

our daily rituals and habits and so I'm really
just in awe of how you are using a daily practice

to reconnect with a certain speed and also to
reconnect with the go and to honor them and yeah

I'm curious about that Transit that you brought in
that you feel is like connected to this too yeah I

I would love to connect him with that and I also
just want to mention too that it is I I just want

to name especially in light of the Virgo themes
of the hermit that when I say daily practice it

doesn't mean it's every day like the perfectionism
of that of like having to show up every day it can

sometimes I have like moments where it is every
day a daily practice and there's times where I

also lean into the Pisces polarity of Virgo and
just let myself be free from any kind of need

to show up in Perfection and I just want to name
that as a Virgo Moon here with Mercury and Pisces

um so yeah the transit that I'm thinking of that
I think is is really important um in this year to

just kind of understand the energy of the year
um that maybe I haven't heard of a lot of other

astrologers talking about is the conjunction of
Chiron and Aries and ays and Aries so this is a

pretty major Transit because uh they AIS takes
she stays in a sign for 120 years um and Chiron

takes 50 years to go around the Sun so it's a
once every 50y year Transit and it's the first

time that these two bodies line up in the sky
since both of their discoveries so they're both

newer to the astrology world and so I'll share
a little bit about Chiron a little bit about ays

and then we can kind of talk about it Chiron is
probably the one people are more familiar with

which actually interestingly enough is included on
the hermit card in the fifth Spirit tarrow which

is a Tarot deck created by Charlie Clare burges
who is an Aquarius Scorpio Gemini I just always

feel their energy with that deck and I think you
have some similar signs going on so I think that's

probably why I'm sharing that right now but the F
T is for a world Beyond binary and it and includes

astrological glyphs on the cards which makes it
very accessible to me as someone who works with

both practices so they do have mercury on the
hermit's backpack and then Virgo is on the arm

patch and then Chiron is etched and on the tree
that the hermit is um reflecting under um so yes

some some Scholars have connected The Hermit to
Chiron which is the planetoid um often referred

to as the wounded healer so Chiron might speak to
abandonment wounds uh I've noticed that show up

around abandonment of parents but also abandonment
of society and the systems that we live into

um but also where we um utilize our spiritual and
creative and intellectual gifts to process our

trauma and to uh help bring healing to others who
feel as though they've been abandoned um so that's

Chiron in a little nutshell and then Eris is um
was discovered in 2005 and AIS e r i s was named

Eris which is the warrior feminine principle the
goddess of Discord because of her Discovery she

is the one who demoted Pluto from a planet to
a planetoid in 2005 and Pluto represents those

in power which eily with Pluto and Aquarius in the
day the Pluto kazimi happened was the Inauguration

Day in the United States and we saw literally
like a plutocracy or what some are calling a like

a bro-tocracy if it's it's Techtocracy something
like that yeah Aquarius does represent technology

and Pluto is those in power so we're actually
seeing in a kind of visceral really on the- nose

kind of way but Eris I do think is is an ally for
many of us in the queer community in you know any

marginalized Community Eris is a champion for
Eris sticks it to those in power and is about

dismantling um Injustice and is often referred
to as the angry feminine archetype so it's

really interesting that this is the planet that
was discovered in the century so if we go back

Uranus was discovered in the 1700s is connected
to electricity Neptune was discovered in the 1800s

is connected to like film and photography Pluto
was discovered in the 1900s and is connected to

World War and psychology and utilizing resources
from underground like gasoline and then then Eris

was discovered in this century and so it is the
planetary body of this Century which is the angry

feminine so I in my own practice have been noting
Eris is connected to things like climate change

which is like Mother Earth fighting back the angry
feminine fighting back ays is also connected to

Global pandemics and that really turned on for
me when a strain of covid-19 was actually named

Eris I was like oh okay uh this is really spot on
so Eris is connected to Global feminist movements

and the glyph is a trans symbol it's the it's
Mars's symbol pointing down so it looks like

Venus and Mars kind of coming together in some
ways so I think of Eris is the trans feminist

so anyway Chiron and Eris align this year um
so it's wounds around the angry feminine um

abandonment so yeah it is an an intense energy
an initiation energy but it's also an invitation

for those who are you know Chiron is like a
therapist as an archetype if we're looking at like

a you know like an expression of Chiron to inspire
us and ays is feminist so it's like feminist

therapist and that's that that conjunction
but it's also like deep wounds around feminist

movements too and environmental movements at 25
degrees of Aries so I think of thing that the

number 25 like project 25 is really interesting
when reflecting on that together so astrology

can show us like the shadow expression of it
which we're seeing but also can invite us into

an embodiment so that we are stepping into the
invitation of the we could say like higher octave

expression of of those energies yeah so that is
kind of going on behind the scenes they'll be at

25 degrees together for like three or four months
out of the year but the whole year they're within

like one or two degrees of each other because
they both move really slow um wow wow yeah and

you know with what you're sharing like I'm really
thinking about like abandonment you know with you

bringing that in and I just been really sitting
with like how neglected so many communities are

and not just neglected but also like impacted
by bigotry and hate and how much it is bringing

up this righteous rage right and also as you're
naming from the planet from people and and I'm

also thinking about like this Tech bro-ocracy
you know Tech oligarch um that's um emerged

how much it is also a response to the feminine
and how they're so obsessed with masculinity and

like certain forms of masculinity and oh it comes
from this idea that they're holding that men are

losing power right and so this is like also like a
response to that Rising anger and I and it's also

like adding fuel to that fire too and um I really
appreciate you know being a feminist therapist

like I really just appreciate like naming that
anger as something that is important and that

is a part of this and also that it's um connected
to these astrological transits and thinking of the

energy of Aries and um you know being at the 25th
degree like with there being like these like you

know overover underground but also really public
things that are being planned and how we as people

are being called to respond to these plans and
yeah I just really feel like this all connects and

it does give me hope and inspiration for what the
response is going to be what the response is and

I think what you named earlier my own desire to
get off social media was to also really feel into

an embodied feeling that I had when I went onto
social media especially Instagram or anything um

controlled by uh these people that are ascending
and trying to like really push back against the

angry feminine and you know really seeing as
someone who engages a lot with technology I know

the power of technology and what we can do with
it and I think it was one of the reasons I felt

really called to invite others to join me and to
really let other people know that there are many

other ways that we can use these Technologies
to stay connected while not really supporting

these systems that are in many ways fighting back
against the sacred righteous rage that is wanting

to emerge and you know with with this all said
like I'm curious you know before we start going

into some q&as that we have from folks like I'm
just curious if you have any advice or anything

you want to share for people um as like a way to
navigate this year just because I do know that

there are a lot of folks who either feel feel lost
or feel like they don't know how to show up this

year because of everything happening yeah yeah I
think that's a really great question for us all

to ponder and to continue to have a collective
conversation around which I do think speaks to

the Pluto in Aquarius Transit that Aquarius really
has no hierarchy on knowledge when we're talking

about this Soulful expression of Aquarius
and so continuing to stay connected to your

community and to build in community and have that
to be a intention in this year um both Community

online and in person if you're if you're able to
and some of us may live in places or may not have

accesses or resources to community and I think
that's something for us to continue to talk about

too but um really focusing on continuing to have
people mirror back to you your truth and to share

ideas come together um around ritual but also
just around brainstorming and um and you know I

think for me especially as we moved through this
first year first month of first year of 2025 got

of call like a first month of 2025 I um there were
moments where I'm like am I being over dramatic am

I being crazy like this feel this all feels like
wild right now and just talking to other people

and and I'm thinking about a Capricorn friend that
I have that just is like keeps it real and is very

grounding and was like no like this is intense and
you're not alone in these feelings and so I think

just being able to reflect back to each other that
like what we're moving through right now is is

intense and also the veil is being lifted and so
being being present with what's going on not fully

hiding away staying aware staying practicing
discernment particularly around media sources

finding that balance between staying informed
and also maybe fine-tuning your focus because

there's so much being thrown at us right now with
that is meant to overwhelm the system so that we

become lethargic or don't care anymore don't feel
like we have the right to speak or to share our

truth so right now I'm staying informed and I
have like certain thought leaders that I'm I'm

only listening to right now really um and also
as a member of the lgbtq community I'm saying

focused on what's going on particularly with our
trans Community but just also in general the lgbtq

community I'm staying more focused on that but
there's so many things taking place right now that

if we try to stay focused on all of them and this
is actually something I've learned as an aquarius

is that Aquarius wants to be a humanitarian and
wants to like have all the causes but really maybe

fine tune and and really say what community am
I really wanting to connect with what cause what

one to three causes am I really focused on so
that we can not burn ourself out in the process

I mean those are things that I'm doing in my own
life but also just reminding us all that we each

have a unique perspective so I would say this
question that you propos to me maybe ask three

people that you trust and love the same question
and see how they answer this to and um let's

gather our resources together and um continue
the conversation yeah definitely I and you know

I think that really connects a lot with the advice
you're giving of like tuning into Community being

a part of community and finding ways to stay
connected and yeah I'm also feeling really

called to share something that's coming through
right now is that you know as you named earlier

I think this year is a really powerful year for us
to tune into our gifts our abilities and also to

make space for them and to really not get trapped
in tactics that are really trying to overwhelm us

over stimulate us and also take us away from that
inner fire that inner power that we have and it's

one of the reasons I actually was really called to
create this podcast is I know the power of Art and

Magic I've witnessed it I've experienced it I've
lived it and I also know that we need space and

time to really cultivate our gifts our connections
our communion with spirit with ancestors with the

Divine and I think those are the gifts that are
also really emerging this year and that we're

really being called to make space for so space for
divination for tuning in with our plant and animal

and rock ancestors connecting with our ancestral
practices these are all practices that I think are

super important and of course it makes sense that
as our Collective and individual power is growing

that there's going to be a response and people
wanting to move us away from that or to keep us

in a state of being so disorganized or overwhelmed
that we can't tap into those things and so I'm

really grateful that you bring that up and really
wanting to encourage people to find that sacred

underground to build that sacred underground that
cave space where you can really tune in and clear

away even if it means you have to like put pillows
on your head or you know find a place in your

house where you can hide I think it's really
important to normalize that we all need those

kinds of spaces to be able to really tune in and
reflect and just really want to empathize with all

the folks who are feeling overwhelmed right now
or who all are feeling like things are too much

cuz I think a lot of us are feeling that way and
I think it's also a great reminder that we need

each other now more than ever so this is not about
isolation this is not about separation it's about

connection and communion and taking time to step
away so that we can't come back to our communities

and share what we've received and so with that
said with like kind of bringing in our communities

I'm excited to bring in some questions from the
folks who are on my newsletter and so just letting

people know here on this podcast that I will
be sending out on my newsletter requests for

questions or for interaction and I just want
to thank the folks who um have sent in their

questions for us I'm going to start off here by
reading off one of the questions I'll start with

one from Rachel Hughes Rachel asks what is your
smallest Altar and Rachel says that this question

is inspired by jambalaya the natural woman's book
of personal charms and practical rituals by Louisa

T who while referring to living in small spaces
wrote that your smallest altar is a cup of tea

and so yeah I'm curious Jeff what is your smallest
alter that you have I love that um I have altars

everywhere so I'm like oh which one sometimes
think of thinking of the body as an altar too like

I was very conscious of what necklace I put on
today before our conversation so that might be my

answer to that but also I think of our tarot decks
too like I usually have mine wrapped up in some

sort of like cloth and so I have like this alter
to go which I often think of as the fo spindle and

the tarot is like carrying their alter cloth with
them with all their alter items inside and so yeah

um yeah my tote bag that I bring around like at
least one item for each element wherever I go yeah

yeah I love that yeah and I feel like similar
to you like I brought my multii I'm wearing a

quartz right now and I also like to bring along
with me different elements that are protective

or that help connect with different energies I've
really made it a practice now also when I have my

napsack to always like throw a crystal in there
uh you know bring always bringing a little bit of

tactical magic you never know when you'll need it
and so definitely love the idea of your body as an

altar and also altars that can travel with you and
go with you wherever you need to go um yeah great

so I'll read the next question here then um and
this one's from Sarah Block who is a therapist up

in Portland Oregon Sarah says I wanted to ask
you to help me understand something about my

career path and my astrological chart specifically
I recently learned that my midheaven my Chiron and

my black moon Lilith are all in Gemini in the 10th
house this feels like a lot and as an Aries sun

and Virgo Rising I usually tend to know exactly
what I want to do and just plan it and go for

it now for some reason my career path these days
has me wondering dreaming and exploring all of the

options but not taking a lot of practical steps
for each one for instance do I become a clinical

supervisor do I deepen my mediumship skills Deep
dive into studying tarot or DreamWork do I focus

on organizational coaching and business leadership
or all of the above I'm all over the place with my

ideas interests and desires I'm really wondering
how how to work with my Gemini nature in this area

what have you learned about your Gemini gifts what
are challenges and how do you work with them and

also how do you think my Chiron and black moon
and Lilith play into my challenges and strengths

in this area o wow such a a DEET layered question
and really speaks to your chart too because you're

Virgo Rising With The Gemini M heaven right
yeah definitely yeah um yeah I think all yes

yes yes to all the things all the things that I
would say explore them all at different points

and I think a practice like astrology and our
tarot can be really great for organizing all of

the Gemini Virgo thoughts and ideas and so like
in a particular year if you're like you might

find one planet that you want to work with and
it that could be like Jupiter and you're like

oh Jupiter's in Gemini this year transiting my
10th house this year is about 10th house themes

of Career Development so astrology can be a tool
for organizing our thoughts and ideas and I think

for me that's been a a big part of why I love
astrology is that it helps me to be inspired by

the language of archetypes and time and to focus
my energy on certain areas of my life but as

far as that the black moon Lilith and Chiron and
Gemini mid Heaven I mean it speaks to everything

that they're doing in the world Chiron saying
is like a therapist or a counselor and black

moon Lilith I often say is that we're witch in
the chart and then Gemini is communication and

interest in many things and Building Bridges
with with people and through words and through

dexterity of mind and the mid Heaven is the the
higher purpose in the chart or what some might

refer to as the career placement the public
appearance leadership style so it's all like

the chart is confirming all of that and knowing
there are Virgo Rising with an aries Sun that

likely puts their Aries sun in the Eighth House of
psychology and esoteric studies so yeah they feel

really aligned with their chart and I think it's
more about them choosing one of these interests

and and delving into it and maybe being inspired
by the current transits could be um would help

them decide which path they want to walk down
first in this hermit year of walking down a path

yeah and I just want to say as someone who does
have a lot of the similar placements I can really

resonate with the struggle of choosing and also
of trying to find ways to integrate practices that

our society has regimented as separate and I am
still navigating that I continue to navigate that

conversation all the time and at the same time
I think one thing that has been really helpful

for me is to as you were saying Jeff have like
larger goals that feel really aligned like let's

say say for example this year one of my goals is
to really work on my art practice to really like

support my art practice as a business to support
my art practice in unfolding unfurling and growing

in ways that it's wanting to grow and at the
same time I also make space for moments where

I'm feeling inspired where I'm feeling like called
to do something else and so like I try to kind of

play with both where it's like I do have plans
I do have goals and also I know that there are

days where I'm just like know the energy is moving
me in this direction I need to just go down this

and I'm going to table whatever it was that I
wanted to do um and I know that for me that's

been a way of really um you know working with
the diversity of things that excite me and also

maintaining something that feels like structure
and that's helping me achieve goals while still

making space for spontaneity and for other things
to emerge that might be really resonant there

might be like my guides or my spirit ancestors
telling me do this now I want to make space for

that too so just kind of also wanting to bring
that in as well all right so this next question

is from Regan Becker and Regan asks what changes
in energy do you anticipate as Neptune on March

30th and Saturn on May 24 which is my birthday
move into the Cardinal fire sign how do we be

feel act differently as a collective after those
two planets leave Pisces yeah it's a major shift

um of energy actually when Saturn and Neptune
come together they only come together once every

36 years or so so it does represent a shift in
culture and also um a shift in our own spiritual

life Neptune being spirituality and Saturn being
structures we're restructuring our relationship

to spirituality and all forms of mysticism which
is Neptune but there's also structuring in the

dream which is Neptune 2 and that can sometimes
speak to the collective dream or Illusion you know

Neptune is also illusion and so they're on a good
day Saturn and Neptune entering Aries together is

inviting us to really step into our personal power
around our spiritual gifts to make a commitment

Saturn to our spiritual and creative and intuitive
gifts Neptune in in a way where we are allowing

oursel to be seen in it which is Aries it brings a
sense of like a fire to these qualities too which

is really interesting to consider that Neptune
has been in Pisces for a while since about 2011

so actually from 2011 to 2025 has been maybe more
of a peaceful time like Universal compassion and

spirit spirituality Neptune's at home in Pisces
and so as it shifts into Aries it does take our

spiritual practices into a more fiery place where
some of us might be stepping into channeling our

anger and rage through poetry which would be fire
Aries anger and rage Neptune poetry like that

could be an example of that and it makes me think
of someone famous who has Neptune in a fire sign

and they are a Neptune Rising which is Maya Angelo
who is known as a poet Neptune rising in Leo in a

boldheart fiery way so Neptune entering Aries I'm
looking at people like you Edgar who have Neptune

in a fire sign you have Neptune in Sagittarius
and that's a generational placement so those

with Neptune and Leo or Sagittarius might feel
some sort of realignment with your fiery gifts

during this Transit those of you who are Aries
you are becoming more spiritual and intuitive over

the next 12 years at Neptune's and Aries which
is really interesting for you Aries folks and

those who are Pisces your ruling planet Neptune
is shifting into Aries so Pisces is becoming

a little bit more Aries and Aries is becoming a
little bit more Pisces so there's a little dance

between these two signs that are the end of a
cycle and the beginning of a new cycle and really

when talking about Neptune we can kind of start to
dissolve and kind of get lost in it and it's like

o what is this energy I don't really know and so
I think that there is a shift in energy in a fiery

nature that is still somehow fluid um and mystical
so we'll have to keep checking back in to see what

it inspires you can always use the tarot as a
meditation so this puts the hanged one Neptune

next to the emperor which is Aries as a meditation
yeah thank you so much for sharing all that yeah

and Rian does have a little bit more in um her
question the next one is how do we release Virgo

in perfectionism while maintaining relational
accountability going forward how do we step into

Pisces compassion without overdoing or overgiving
do you want to start this one off I can definitely

start this one off yeah I think you know one of
the things that comes up with this is thinking

about discernment you brought that word in earlier
Jeff and I think this year is a really powerful

year for us to tune into our energetic boundaries
our personal psychological boundaries and that

even includes with our perfectionist Parts you
know I'm someone who as a therapist works with

parts I integrate internal family systems into a
lot of the work that I do and I know that we all

have perfectionist parts that come up that show
up when wherever we're working on things and those

can actually get us to step away from relating
to ourselves to different parts of ourselves

that need to show up when we're making and so
one practice that I want to really share that

has really supported me around perfectionism is
to ask those perfectionist parts to make space so

that you can allow other parts to come in that are
really needing to create or to express themselves

I know for myself I tune in a lot with more
childlike parts or more playful Parts whenever

I make and so I know that sometimes so it's more
perfectionist judgmental parts that come in can

really stop that flow that is something that
happens both with art practice and also when

it comes to relating and connecting with people
too and so leading with curiosity and asking those

perfectionists judgmental parts to make space can
be really supportive in helping us actually stay

in a flow a relational flow with ourselves and
with others and I think going into that second

question around Pisces um I'm really thinking also
around that discernment and kind of understanding

when you might be doing something that is outside
of your own Capac capacity and so knowing that it

is important for us to have empathy and compassion
and Care while also really knowing that we at

times need to really care for ourselves and to
take a step back when we're really feeling called

to continue to overg give or to be compassionate
that there is a limit to that and that if we want

to you know be in it for the long ha if we know
that this is a marathon that we're on we do need

to care for ourselves in order to be able to come
back so really giving yourself permission to also

step back and to care for yourself when it's
important I think this speaks to what I I was

feeling called to share about Virgo too um that
sometimes like when we have these transits I will

especially like if it's the South node will be in
Virgo all of 2025 and into the first half of 2026

so we get this extended time period to meditate
on the Virgo Pisces polarity and so a part of

my practice is bringing in the esoteric phrases
that are associated with each zodiac sign and in

this case Virgo and I think a lot of what you said
Edgar is embodied in Virgo's esoteric phrase and

I think I would like to encourage us to reflect
on this phrase this year Virgo's phrase is I am

the mother and the child that's the first half
of it and already that phrase like has so much

in it um that I think can begin to heal Tendencies
towards perfectionism too um is is we're talking

about relationship is also the relationship we
hold to oursel our inner mother our inner child

so I am the mother and the child and then the
second half of the phras is I God I matter am

and so I've translated that as I'm connected to
Spirit I'm connected to my body matter M and Virgo

actually does become is the vessel is like your
body is the vessel for bringing some sort of um

inspiration or spiritual connection here to
the planet which is really what Virgo um is

symbolizing um as a go as a goddess or a mother
archetype so yeah that I think that feeds into

what you were sharing yeah and I you know and
I think I want to just bring one more thing

in that I you know the word devotion feels really
important here too and knowing that um many of our

practices our devotional and Virgo for me really
embodies that devotional aspect of showing up to

um create something for me devotion has an element
of pleasure in it and play and beauty and these

are all and my I think you've shared with me Jeff
that you know with my um Venus being in cancer

I'm really called to have Beauty and flowers and
water be a part of my own devotional practices

and so really also asking people to think about
what feels devotional for them as a way to turn

their practices into an offering and these can
be all sorts of practices and that could also

be a way to really support those parts that
might feel judgmental or might have thoughts

about perfectionism and knowing that those things
can really um be supported by having a devotional

practice as well yeah okay one oh were you gonna
say something I just said Gorge yes okay the last

question from Reagan and then we have one last
question after this that's a voice question

O Okay so this one is as hermit and Crone is the
white sage with the lantern in the wilderness what

survival skills and or emotional habits are
our guiding lights on the shadowy path ahead

I love bringing in the Crone archetype here too
which is an yeah you I think this year and the

hermit year is a time for us to to see the many
different interpretations of how the hermit has

been named and so I named a few of them earlier
and the Chon is another great one survival skills

I you know as someone who like looks at and to
like read people's charts it's like oh if the

internet blacks out what are my skill sets I
have been thinking about that for sure um so

I've been reconnecting to the sky being out in
the desert and just reorienting myself and in

time and space actually like in nature but I've
also been inspired this is maybe not a Survivor

skill but something that we can prepare to do
and I think in in light of the recent fires

in Los Angeles and also I'm deeply connected to
the Asheville Community too that also experienced

flooding earlier um something that I have been
discussing with close friends is having a a go

bag just as a way to prepare and so I'm going
to be releasing a substack article soon where

it is utilizing astrolog ology the 12 archetypes
of astrology of like item would Aries be in a go

bag what item would Taurus be in a go bag and oh
my gosh I love this so much kind of getting me

thinking about it and so um yeah I think that's
something just even for my nervous system to

have something ready and prepared so that I can
take care of myself and take care of those that

I love close to me um feels like maybe a survival
skill that I have is preparation and education um

what about you yeah um there's so much that comes
up around this I think one of the things that I'm

feeling called to share it along with this
go bag is to not forget your ability to use

divination as a tactical practice as a spontaneous
practice and knowing that a lot of us are really

comfortable doing divination like in the privacy
of our homes or with really ritualized containers

and also knowing that divination is sometimes
important to do out on the go or when you're not

sure of what to do right if you're feeling like
you've been tossed into like an emergency or a

moment where you're having to question everything
these are really great moments to really work with

divination and when I say divination I don't just
mean tarot I can mean all sorts of practices it

can be everything from prayer to connecting with
your ancestors and so just in the way that you

are turning towards the sky and saying like I want
to really tune into other resources that are not

just like the ones I've been traditionally using I
think it's important to have backups and to think

of other um resour resources that are available to
us and with that I think you also are asking about

emotional habits um it's important to safety plan
you know especially with you bringing in these

emergencies that have happened safety planning
is something that we could do both um in terms

of our physical safety but also our emotional
safety so what do we need to stay emotionally in

a regulated space um when we are moving through
times of uncertainty or times of overwhelm and

that could mean I'm going to make a plan where I
check in news for an hour and then I make space

to draw or to play or to work on something
else that is grounding so really thinking of

safety plans as um things that we can also do
for our nervous systems and for our emotional

capacity and it also makes me think of
the the skill sets that I've gained of

learning about breathing different
breathing techniques and and just

which helps me regulate uh if I'm feeling over
anxious or just need a moment of pause um and

as far as like divination too I was talking
about wearing a necklace like I can take this

necklace off and use it as a pendulum um and
check in with my intuition so just having tools

on you your body as an altar too is a way to be
you know prepared and survive yeah yeah that's

a great tactical like divination practice is
working with the crystals you carry with you

for sure um yeah so we're going to um I'm going
to try to pull up this next voice note that we

have um let's see if I can get it so you can hear
it too Jeff so this is from Lindsay Lion Lord and

um I'll play it here and hello Edgar and Jeff
I'm so excited about this podcast I'm a really

big fan of both of you um my question is around
my career I'm an artist I'm finishing my MFA right

now I've worked really hard on this and it's been
taking a long time but I should finish in the fall

but I um I'm a disabled person and I recently was
diagnosed um with a condition that means I'm blind

basically and I didn't know I was already legally
blind but I am and my vision will continue to

Decline and it's a lot to grieve and it's a lot to
adjust to and so my question is around my career

choice and I'm feeling pretty hopeless right now
and of course terrified at the state of the world

but I was wondering if you could take a peek
at my birth chart and see if there's anything

constructive or hopeful you can tell me about my
career or if I should just choose something else

or give up I guess I don't know what else I can
do honestly uh for many reasons but um my I was

born August 2nd 1985 in Witchita Kansas at 8:45
p.m. thank you so so much so their question was

they wanted a little bit of Hope or something to
Anchor into as they're going through this time of

transformation in their life it sounds like yeah

and also great achievement too but
also yeah moving into unknown and

uncertainty I mean I whenever I hear eyesight
come up um in in someone's life a theme like

whether it's like eye surgery or you know just
anything relating to the eyes I do look to the

asteroid Palace is the asteroid that is connect
Ed to vision and eyesight um and they have Palace

conjunct Chiron the wounded healer in Gemini in
the fourth house of home and belonging so um you

know in the earlier stage of development this
could be wounds kbron around vision and sight

but the gifts of that is um piercing intellect
and intuition to use in healing um Chiron and

Gemini through words and I even just hearing the
sound of their voice I would listen to them speak

too so I'm wondering about their capacity to to
share their gifts through their words like if they

had a podcast would listen to it for instance
it was like such a clear and resounding voice

yeah I agree yeah so that was my the first place
I went and then I'm noticing they're an aquarius

Rising with Jupiter and Aquarius on the ascendant
and so Pluto did just enter aquarius so it does

note for anyone who has major Aquarian energy that
they will likely be moving through a period of of

death and rebirth and so that could be connected
to that but also there will be gifts that emerge

through that process too um and they're are Leo
so Leo sun with Mars and Mercury and Leo too so

um the creative expression is really highlighted
with Leo and um the their ability to to lead and

to be someone that we feel as though they are
representing the future that we want to see

that's what I think go with Leo and Aquarius
polarity yeah I do think that um this will

be a a period of time where they're likely right
now they are actually moving through their their

midlife transits is what it's often referred to
which um happens usually around age 42 is kind

of like that time period where it's the Pluto
square and then the Neptune square and then

the Uranus opposition so actually um they are
right in in that portal of a fewe time period

where it's it's uh a it can be a tense time
um where there's a time of pivot and change

in one's life and so we're reorienting right now
so I think getting to know the birth chart more

will allow um can you remind me their name again
Lindsay well allow Lindsay to have more vocabulary

around it the changes that they're they're going
through um and really the the birth chart acts as

a way to really be inspired about your own um
unique gifts and contributions to the world so

yeah what about what about you edar I know you're
not looking at the chart because I didn't share

the screen but yeah yeah I do have a few things
I'm feeling called to share for you Lindsay like

first I want to just thank you for um asking this
question and I want to really put a plug in for

you getting a full birth chart reading from Jeff
cuz they are incredible if you haven't had one

already um highly want to recommend um it's
actually helped me a lot as an artist uh to be

able to go back to the readings that you've given
me Jeff and to see how some of the transits some

of the um placements have shown up in my artwork
and so just wanted to say that you're someone who

is a great guide and can really support people
who are having questions around their birth chart

and you know I just want to say that I think
it's yeah I'm also 42 so I'm kind of in the

similar place as you um Lindsay and um I have been
thinking a lot about multi-sensorial experiences

I'm actually I'm working on an exhibition with
someone to create an a space where people with

different sensorial abilities and Gifts can come
in to connect and um you know as an artist one

of my biggest passions and interests in art and
in general has been how art is a container to

share Essences that are invisible and that
are not seen by our eyes but can be felt can

be experienced through our third eyes can be um
experienced through our nervous systems through

our Soma through our body and so I know that there
is so much capacity for the Arts when it comes to

nonvisual spaces and ways of thinking and I do
feel like this is almost like at the um at the

Avant guard or what is emerging is our ability to
really connect with things that are nonvisible and

so um you know definitely understand how this
is going to be a challenging Transit and also

a challenging time for you to readjust and you
know and I also have my own health things going

on that I feel like are making me rethink a
lot of things in my life and um I just want

to um remind you that there are moments where you
can receive wisdom guidance when you can receive

um understanding from some of the things that are
emerging in your life and um I'm really um want

to just say how proud I am of you for finishing
a degree and for moving in this direction and I

can also understand how devastating this can
feel to have a diagnosis like this come after

receiving your degree and um I do want to hold
space for grief and for taking time to be with

what it means to have shifting capacities and um
as someone who um had a case of Belle's policy

last year that I'm still healing from um I
know what it's like to have to re organize

your life and to rethink a lot of things because
of illness coming in and so just want to say that

I empathize and also um want to plant a little
seed for Hope and for possibility of what can

come in the future and so just um definitely want
to encourage you to reach out to either one of us

if you're wanting more like personalized support
and just want to thank you so much for asking this

question cuz I could imagine there are other folks
who are also navigating challenging transits right

now and could also use that type of support and so
just know that we're both here um to offer support

in our own different capacities and with that said
Jeff like I would love for you to share how people

can work with you how people can find you because
I know that you are such a deep resource for our

communities and you offer so much in so many
different ways so just want to um invite you

to share how people can get in touch yeah and I
I would just want to say one last thing because

sometimes when I pull up a chart initially like
I some I usually meditate on someone's charts for

like days before um answering questions and
so while you were speaking I was also gazing

at Lindsay's chart and I just wanted to note one
thing that I thought was kind of auspicious about

the timing of Us coming together today Edgar is
that um we were talking about hiia the asteroid

of Integrative approaches um and its relationship
to hermit and the year the snake and actually

this morning hiia entered Taurus um and Lindsay
has hiia at Zer degrees of Taurus so actually

Lindsay as you're listening to this you are having
your hiia return and the hiia return only happens

once every 4 and a half years and so there's some
sort of return around integrative approaches in

medicine and healing for you at this time um so I
just wanted to bring that into I thought that was

kind of auspicious um if if anyone feels called
to working with me one on-one I do offer deep

dive astrology readings those are about 90 minutes
long I also have a Tarot practice too and one of

my favorite ways of connecting through the tarot
I call it Journey To The High Priestess and it's

about a 90minut reading where you will actually go
on a journey to see the high priestess and check

in with the high priestess and so that is also a
deep dive reading and then I do do offer long-term

support as well for people who are looking for a
larger container to help them um in in times of

transition or study uh and so my website is Cosmic
cousin.com and Cosmic cousins is a name that was

birthed out of me not having any birth cousins
I have a very small family and I'm actually um

aranged from my family due to their religious
and World Views so it's a spell and a out to

community to have cousins and Cosmic cousins and
just community in general and so that's where that

name comes from and so I also specialize in a lot
of you know religious trama and you know queer um

topics as well or the resources that I have um to
offer um so yeah if you're feeling caught I'd love

to connect with you and it's been so rich this
conversation and I hope that uh it serves you well

yeah thank you so much Jeff super appreciate you
being on your art as a spell and I really want to

thank you so much for your time and for um sharing
so openly and you know really want to um affirm

how much of a gift your practi is your presen is
and as someone who also is um navigating similar

terrains relationally um it is such a gift to
know that we have chosen family and that we have

um deep lineages as queer and trans people to
tune into and connect with both living and non-

living and the year practice has actually really
helped me uh connect with that as well and um I

yeah cannot say enough about your readings and
how much of a gift they are and like how they

continue to give even after the reading is over
because I have gone back several times to listen

to the recordings that you U made of our my
reading and it's just been so affirming and

has really validated so much um that's happened
in my life and so just really want to encourage

folks to reach out to you and I want to thank
you again Jeff for being on this podcast and um

definitely um excited for you to connect with the
folks that I'm connected with as well I um love

bringing us all together through these portals was
an honor to be here with you today yeah wow that

was such a powerful conversation about navigating
20 25's transformative energies the key reminders

that I'm carrying forward with me are how we can
create sacred underground spaces while staying

connected to our communities and that our smallest
devotional acts from picking up a piece of glass

to making a cup of tea our profound magic in these
times thank you Jeff Hinshaw for sharing your
