And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Wednesday the 31st July 2024.

The North East Combined Authority has confirmed that plans have been approved for millions of pounds worth of investment to be put into transport improvements in the region.
As part of these plans, more than £100 million will be put into schemes to develop the bus links, as well as improving the Metro, Shields Ferry, and rail. The region’s ambitions for its City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement were also approved by the Mayor and the Cabinet.
Alongside these improvements, the Mayor and Cabinet agreed to move forward with plans to bring buses back under public control, as they prepare a Franchising Scheme Assessment.

The Information Commissioner’s Office has announced that it has taken action against two organisations in the public sector after they failed to meet their freedom of information obligations.
Enforcement notices have been issued to both Devon and Cornwall Police, and Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust as they have continuously failed to respond to freedom of information requests.
Both organisations have been given around a month to publish actions plans for how they will clear their backlog over the coming months.

The Local Government Association has called for action to be taken regarding funding for cultural services.
Outlining how spending on cultural services has been constrained over the course of the last ten years, with it becoming even more under threat due to the number of different funding streams and the way that the system for bidding for funding works.
Thanks to research produced by the LGA, it has become clear that local government is the largest single biggest source of culture funding, however a squeeze is also being placed on this investment due to the increasing demand for adult and children’s social care and homelessness services. As a result of these pressures, spending on culture and leisure services within councils has fallen in real terms by £2.3 billion since 2010/11.
