Christian influencer Bryce Crawford is challenging Liberty University students not to "take the bait" of sin and spiritual passivity. Speaking at a convocation in Lynchburg, Virginia, on September 25th, the 22-year-old drew on Genesis 25, where Esau trades his birthright to his brother Jacob for a bowl of stew. "Dude, you're about to sell like everything that you're about to inherit for like some soup," Crawford said. He called passivity "the biggest bait" facing American Christians, arguing it "slaps God in the face" just as much as pride or lust. Crawford urged students to share the Gospel, saying, "Stop waiting for somebody else to do it. You do it." He also labeled the iPhone "the biggest gateway drug in all of society."

Crossroads Church founder Brian Tome is stepping down as senior pastor of the Cincinnati megachurch, just one month after returning from a suspension. Tome was suspended in March after the church independently substantiated claims that he whipped and rubbed a man's crotch with a riding crop in his office in 2015. The church's Spiritual Board said his actions, while possibly "intended in humor," were "inappropriate and not above reproach." In Sunday's sermon, Tome announced he will become "founding senior pastor," handing his title, authority and board seat to lead pastor Kyle Ranson. "You are not getting rid of me," Tome said, calling his old job "my Egypt." Under a five-year, annually renewable contract, he will focus on camp ministries, his podcast and speaking, ending three decades leading the 35,000-member, nine-campus church.

A West Palm Beach pastor is being hailed as a hero after police say he was killed in a case of mistaken identity. Thirty-one-year-old Akeem Moore, minister of worship at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, was sitting in his car with his girlfriend, Loren Wilder, early on September 27 when 38-year-old Hugh Milner Jr. allegedly approached with a gun, believing Wilder was her older sister, Shavon, his ex-girlfriend. Moore told him he had the wrong woman, then was shot in the back while reversing to escape. He drove to a fire station but later died. "Akeem should be remembered as a hero," said Police Chief Tony Araujo. Milner faces first-degree murder charges and was denied bail. Moore's uncle says the family wants people to know "his life was not in vain."

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a fight over a planned shrine to the Virgin Mary in northern Kentucky. The Missionaries of St. John the Baptist operate the nearly century-old Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel in Park Hills, just south of Cincinnati, and want to build a grotto with statues of Mary and St. Bernadette behind the building. Neighbors Joel and Elizabeth Frederic challenged the city's 2021 approval over parking and traffic concerns. In December 2025, the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled the zoning board had exceeded its authority. The group says blocking the shrine violates the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act. "Telling a church it can't build a modest place for prayer and reflection on its own property is outrageous," said Kelly Shackelford of First Liberty Institute. The ruling could set a nationwide precedent.

Washington Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde, who made national headlines for rebuking President Donald Trump to his face, plans to step down in 2028. In a Saturday letter, the 66-year-old bishop wrote, "I have not come to this decision lightly or alone, and it will not be easy to say goodbye to the diocese I love." Her successor will be elected January 29, 2028, and her tenure ends with the new bishop's consecration that June. In her January 2025 inaugural prayer service sermon, Budde urged Trump to "have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now," including LGBT children and undocumented immigrants. Coral Ridge Presbyterian pastor Rob Pacienza called the sermon "mean and divisive," while Virginia Theological Seminary has honored her with a sculpture and a book of essays.

Former New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell has been suspended as pastor of Covenant United Methodist Church in Plainfield while the denomination investigates misconduct allegations. Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi said the complaint stems from a recent state investigation report, adding, "Because we hold clergy to a high standard, we take the allegations made in the report seriously." Caldwell resigned last month after that report found he committed sexual harassment and ethics violations. Governor Mikie Sherrill said the report "lays out a pattern and practice of long-term concerning behavior." Caldwell, 66, denies wrongdoing, telling CBS New York there's "no corroboration" and calling the report "nonsense." He says the church is "investigating the investigation" and is weighing legal action, including an option to "sue for harassment."

More than 500 million Christians worldwide face restrictions on accessing the Bible, according to the 2026 Bible Access List released Thursday by the Bible Access Initiative. The report examined 106 countries and ranked Afghanistan as the most restrictive, followed by Yemen, Somalia, North Korea, Eritrea and Mauritania. Barriers range from government controls and extremist violence to poverty, illiteracy and limited internet access. The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Nigeria and India each face shortages exceeding 10 million Bibles. "We must not confuse availability with access," said co-creator Wybo Nicolai. Ken Bitgood, CEO of Digital Bible Society, called the report "a roadmap for showing where intentional, strategic action is needed." The initiative's partners include The Voice of the Martyrs and YouVersion.
