[01:01:53] Craig Carton I know how it works. You're non-stop work 24-7. Well, the fact that you got fired from Masked Singer, maybe you can relate, because you essentially got fired on TV, right? Because you don't advance in the show.
[01:02:06] Little Wayne And my mom was so pissed. Was she? She was so mad.
[01:02:09] Craig Carton Did she know it was you, like when you're dressed up and that thing, she knew which character you were and all that?
[01:02:14] Little Wayne Uh, she didn't know. She didn't at all. And also I didn't tell her that I was going to be on the show, but it was the very first show that came on after the Super Bowl.
[01:02:21] Craig Carton It was a big episode.
[01:02:21] Little Wayne Yeah, so it was the first episode of season two, so I kind of told the whole family some weird stuff like, man, I really like that. Y'all never saw that show, that Madden's single show? It come on right after Super Bowl, but I really, really liked that show. Check that show out. I figured it out and had everybody watching, and it was super obvious. You have to be some kind of involved with this. You're asking us to watch. And they figured it all out. Within two seconds, my son called me, like, Dad, that's you!
[01:02:51] Craig Carton As you figure it out, son, you're like, well, you used to sing Cyndi Lauper around the house. I figured it was you on TV. You keep a lot of stuff from your mom. It seems like you surprised her with a lot stuff. Well, our next guest on the George Venture Show, sadly for him, got fired this morning. But he didn't get fired on TV like Ryan Clark did.

[01:04:02] Bart Scott Yeah, I know man. Yeah, you got something for me. I'm trying we've all been fired before I got fired at the other place I was there too, man. What was the other plays the fan? I got five for my Well wasn't fired. I guess when they don't renew that's like the nice way of saying man is keep it moving Yeah, no, you know you got fired. Yeah. I got fire by is it I'm like, hold up, you're not qualified to fire me. Well, you ain't even about my general manager I know you won't fire me you better kill Rex fat-ass come out here. [01:04:33] Bart Scott Yeah, you can't fire me. You ain't hiring me, motherf***er. Y'all ain't gonna send me home. You better get some security in this bitch.
[01:04:41] Craig Carton So so much stuff to you about I knew exactly what I expected you to be today Um when you left the baltimore ravens to come to new york. Yep. Did you come because of rex? Did you calm because of money or just like new yore could do something special for you?
[01:04:56] Bart Scott Well, the money was the same. I really wanted my story and Rex's story to be linked together. You did. That was important to you. Yeah, because really, when Harbaugh got there, we were only there for one year. And we were all bummed out that Rex didn't get the job, right? Because he was a defensive coordinator and it was his opportunity to be able to lead. But Steve Basciotti didn't think that we would take Rex seriously to be able to discipline us because, you know, I knew Rex from a different way, right. Mike Pet Noddles, guys. Like, Rex was like the fun coach that had the D-Line room going on. He had naked women and all kind of stuff on there. And whenever you heard like jokes and laughing before the meetings, it was always the D Line room. That was like, the place to be. So like, when I got there, I was an under-drafted free agent, $500 sign of bonus. Everybody know I'm like basically the equivalent to a walk-on, you know, and I'm just there trying to make my way, you, know, as I continue to get better and make a name for myself, Rex is doing the same because he was on the Super Bowl team. He was D-line coach. Then he moved to the defensive coordinator and then it was his opportunity to come here with the Jets. And I didn't really know much about hardball and I had been with Rex for, at that point, six years. So I decided to come to New York and I thought it was only right for Ray because if they would decide me, they were gonna let Ray go. Ray Lewis. Yeah, so our contract was up at the same time but I was the younger player and I was like, you know what, this is Ray's team. Let me go to New york and try and make it big.
[01:06:26] Craig Carton When you're an undrafted guy, and you wind up in a locker room as a defensive player, and there's Ray Lewis, as much as you're a tough guy, is that intimidating? Well, no, stop for a second. If I was an up-and-coming rapper, and I walked into the studio and you're there, I'm going Don't be intimidated.
[01:06:47] Bart Scott I appreciate that, Craig. I'm from the D, though. You know what I mean? Like, we ain't afraid of shit. You know, I mean, like, so I came in there. Come on, now. Nah, straight up. I understand what you're saying, but I picked the Ravens for a particular reason, because I was an undrived free agent for those out there that don't know when you're an undried free agent, you kind of pick where you get to go. Okay. Right, and so I saw it as an opportunity, so those out that kind of saw hard knocks and saw the Raven's going through what they were going through, you'd realize that when they had Shannon Sharp, Goose, Rob Woodson, all those guys. They had a big salary cap purge. So I'm like, here I am coming in as an undrafted free agent. It's probably a better chance for me to go there because they need cheap labor, right? So undraft the free agent, $500 sign-a-bonus, supposed to be 1,000, but Ozzy cheap ass took out the $500 back. Stop it. Yeah, man, this is crazy. You gotta find...

[01:07:33] Bart Scott That's the craziest shit ever. $329 after taxes. I paid my fucking Sprint bill, because that was back in the day when Sprint was going on. He couldn't give you the thousand? He called back like, yo, you know that thousand. I said, come on, Ozzy. I'm like, bro, you get somebody a $500 signing bonus, you need to pay him that shit out of your pocket, man. You don't give me no check. It's funny because I cashed my first NFL check. I actually had a check cashing joint, like with the Western Union, the plexiglass and shit. Man, they held that shit up to the light like five times, like, man, what the, man? Come on, man. Come on dawg, this cap. Like man, how would you like it? Singles? Singles.

[01:08:15] Bart Scott And he called back and he gave the other $500 to Will Dimps. Yeah, so I was like, we split my $500 so we can get another sucker to come.
[01:08:24] Craig Carton I definitely worked out for it. Let's go back to your childhood a little bit. Yeah, there's something about you that confused me I asked Bart Scott to plan a bunch of celebrity softball games for charity
[01:08:33] Bart Scott Damn it.
[01:08:33] Craig Carton And the very first game Bart came to, I go, Bart, here's the deal. You're playing left field. He goes, where is it? And I go excuse me? He goes.
[01:08:44] Bart Scott Am I looking at a mirror or am I looking out? Is this left field or am out here? This is left field, it could be either side, depending on which way I'm looking at.
[01:08:50] Craig Carton You're an American kid, you're a great athlete, you don't know where left field was.
[01:08:56] Bart Scott Yeah, so baseball is the only sport I never played. I played everything from tennis, volleyball, track, basketball, football, all that. And baseball is my father's first love. And I can remember the day I was going to go out, I'm like, all right, I'll go play baseball because he wanted me to play baseball, you know, all the fathers back in the day from the 70s from NAMM. You know, they all grew up Jackie Robinson, they're heroes and all that type of stuff. So I'm, like, I will go out. And my boy was a good baseball player. So I see him walking on the street. Any kind of walk-on show. I'm like, yo man, I'm about to go to the baseball team. He opened his wallet What did I say? Oh, damn what the what happened to you dog? He had a wire through his teeth. I Said whoa He got hit in the mouth with the baseball. I said, oh, hell no, hey hell no. Listen, I got crooked fingers. I got a toe that don't touch the ground, but I ain't messing up my face and my teeth, man. Those are, I don't compromise with those, man, so as tough as you can be, man I was like, what did you do? He said nothing. I said oh hell no that would have been a sawed-in battery. I would have beat the hell out of him with that bat. If my teeth broke, your teeth gonna be broke.
[01:10:01] Craig Carton You were also raised by your sisters, right?
[01:10:04] Bart Scott Ah, man, you did some research on me last minute, man? You and I are friends for a long time. Your sisters used to kick your ass. Yeah, that's true. We were neighbors, too. We were in neighbors. Yeah, my sisters just beat the hell out of me, man. Yeah, I got big sisters. We got different dads. So, their dad was like 6'5". You know what I'm saying? So, like, they was about that smoke, too, like you know, like I can remember like stories of my sisters like in the streets, like girls running up on my sisters with bats. Like, hey, bitch, you bringing a knife to a gunfight, she pull out the strap. You know what I mean, right? I got, I got some hard people in my family, man, it's like 130 of us, really.
[01:10:35] Craig Carton Is that right? So the family reunion is a special. Well, we've got no family reunions, man.
[01:10:40] Bart Scott Yeah, everybody had moved out, but, you know, I was raised in a tough neighborhood east side of Detroit. You know what I mean? If anybody that ever saw, like, Eight Mile, they remember where Cheddar Bob got shot in the ass. Like, that's down the street from where I grew up at. So, it was legit. Yeah, Mack and B-Wig. Like, it's like what y'all would call it here at Bodega. You can go there, get, you, know, license plate tabs, new social security card, you know, a license, whatever you need, man, owned by the mob.
[01:11:04] Craig Carton How tough for your sisters?
[01:11:06] Bart Scott They were tough, man. You had to be tough, I grew up in Detroit in the 80s. You know what I'm saying? The 80s, the crack era in the eighties era, man, like it was... You know, you just like hear little crackheads running down the street, man like little... You don't even see them, man They used to call my uncle Chicken George, you know what i'm saying, off Roots, you know what im saying, like he'd be out there dancing for that rock. You would have made money off of him, Weezy. You crazy.

[01:11:38] Little Wayne I was trying to see what Coach was talking about, you know I had to ask Coach for a left too, you knew I had, I asked Coach for, I was like, what you trying to do, before I leave out here, what are you trying do Coach? The people's going to come up and get your ass coached. I know you got to calm your nerves down too every night.
[01:11:58] Craig Carton When did you discover you were different athletically? Was it high school?
[01:12:02] Bart Scott Man, it's crazy, when you grew up in the hood, everybody's a great athlete, right? I grew up doing the area where you actually play in the street. If you go to parks now, man, you don't even see kids out there playing no more. Everything is so commercialized. Kids are playing AAU, they're traveling baseball and all that stuff, it was like a professional league for little kids, it is expensive. But when I grew, you just go outside and play. Like I grew up in a hood, but my grandmother. Because my uncle was an addict, the other one was an alcoholic, my auntie was, everybody had their things. She wanted to protect their kids. So she bought seven houses on the block. So I was raised by a village, it just so happened that it was a village of women. I think we talked about this before that Warner Brothers owns the rights to my life story. But it all came from when I got here with the Jets, it was an article that was written like a warrior raised by women because they're like, man, how can this dude be so tough and you're raised by women, anybody that had a big sister know that nobody beats the shit out of you more than a sister, you know what I'm saying? Like your brother going to play video games with you, like they're going to hang out with you. You're going play basketball with your sister. You just smell like a little stinky dog that they just kick around and beat like a pinata. You know what mean? So like, I got it honest, you don't mean, and football was just something natural because I was naturally violent. You know I mean? Because of my surroundings. Yeah, yeah. I'm all for the smoke. Like I still got to go box and stuff because. To get it off. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I finally got my diagnosis though, it's this like explosive something behavior or something still like that, you know what I'm saying? I'm just going to sit back a little bit, I'm going to just cross my legs here. Nah, nah, nah. Nah, man. Nah, we Gucci, you got what I mean? You did something funny though.
[01:13:40] Craig Carton You did something funny though. So Bart comes over to my house years ago with his son, right? And his son's playing my son in basketball in the backyard. And Bart was so pissed because my son was beating him, right, and do you remember that night? And you're like, man, I'm going to drop you off in the hood. You're not going to last a minute. And the best line you had that day was, Craig, I'm raising a soft suburban white kid. You're a lot.
[01:14:03] Bart Scott You ain't lying, still facts, man. You look tough, man, but I knew I was doing a bad job. My son was walking down the street and he saw another black kid and he just kept walking. Like, oh, bro, we don't do that now. Any black person in here like that, no, you see another black person, I see you walking down, it's something. I'm like, nah, head, no matter where you from. You don't, it was like, bro. You're supposed to acknowledge that you know to struggle. The problem is he ain't got no damn struggle. I'm raising, I'm raised in suburban town. Listen, Black-ish could be an episode of my life, man. Yeah, you were so pissed at that. Oh my God, he broke his damn wrist skateboarding downhill.

[01:14:42] Bart Scott No, no, I ain't knocking the skateboard. It's the fact that it was his first time on the skateboard, he went going downhill, he failed, broke his wrist, got his ass stuck up in the air, man. Like, what the hell are you doing?
[01:14:54] Craig Carton How long did it take you in Baltimore to realize and recognize you were good enough to not just play for the NFL, but play for one of the great defenses in NFL history?
[01:15:03] Bart Scott Yeah. I mean, it was intimidating. Like, like, like I told you, I learned a lot about Plexico. Plexical is maybe a year or so older than me, maybe two. And I can remember my first game. And oddly enough, my first game was against the Steelers and he was with the Steelers. So, you know, like anybody that know the Ravens and the Steeler's rivalry and Willie know it back there. Cause me and Willie used to go at it. Like it's probably the most intense rivalry, physical rivalry in football. I mean, I'm talking about, I've seen Ben break his neck, I mean his nose, stuff it up with tissue. Like, we broke one of their players back on purpose, and like the next game, yeah, like we- I'm sorry? We broke his back. Go ahead. Tell us-

[01:15:45] Bart Scott Oh, so, like, on kickoff, right, we used to have this thing where you used to be able to have wedges and stuff, right? You could put your biggest guys there, and you got to be a wedge buster. That's kind of how I got in the league. But we playing Pittsburgh, and we're like, all right, we're going to set this dude up for a big return. So we used do this stuff where we put a guy on a guy, like I'll be looking at this guy right here, right. But I'm really blocking him. But he thinks I'm blocking him, so I'm looking at him, so I get back, he's running. But the guy that's blocking him is Like the first guy over there, he running 50 yards, 50 yards. Right, right. He de-cleaned him, bam. First thing he do, break his back, stretch her off. First play, right there. Like, I mean, he walked again, it's okay. Like, he broke her, he cracked the vertebrae, right? So like, they, you know, they carry him off. I think Willie was there. And then, so like, so next time we playing them. They set us up for the same thing. And the person that did it, his name was Nakamura. I don't know if you guys remember, it's like a safety from Cincinnati. The person back he broke was his roommate from college. You know what I'm saying? But they got his ass back the next game, carted his ass off. You know I'm sayin'? So like, so the first game I'm ever playing is like against the Steelers. I don't want no smoke. You know, I'm sayin', I don't know what's goin' on. But Plexo got into a fight with this dude named James Trapp. We call him Crazy Joe. Thank you, Joe. Yeah, we call him Crazy Joe, right, and he ended up being like the chaplain for like the Atlanta Falcons. This crazy motherfucker, he had to find Jesus because he was on his way to prison. He was going to be with the Rikers too. But yeah, him and Plex got in a fight. He slammed Plex and jumped up in the air and landed on Plex's chest like Bruce Leroy and twisted, right? Plex pushed him off, got up, punched him in the face. Both of them get ejected. I say, holy shit, what have I got myself into? That's my first game, right? I'm like, man, this is crazy. They're like, you want some of this old man? Like, nope. You know what I'm saying? I had to warm up to the Pittsburgh and the Bravens rivalry, but I was always crazy, right. So like, I was physical. They knew I hit anybody. That's kind of how I got my way there, being an undrived free agent. I just crashed this dummy. You know I'm sayin'? I run down and hit anything. I actually got my start like on the short yard as goal line team. They're just like, man, this dude is either stupid or crazy, but we can use it. And they said to him, run out of brain cells.
[01:18:02] Craig Carton People always talk about Ray Lewis, was the Ray Lewis of today, was he the same dude when you first got into the league where locker room leader, bit of a preacher, all that kind of stuff, or did he change over time?
[01:18:13] Bart Scott Well, I didn't realize how young Ray was when I got there, right? Because I think he got in the league when he was like 20. So when I get there, he was only like 26 or 27, but in the League, I had been watching him and admiring him, you know what I'm saying, from college. Yeah, when I go there, like damn, like six years, you see somebody six years you're like damn. Because you got to think, I went through college, so I've been watching him since I was like in eighth grade. What I say about Ray is, like, what you saw on Sundays you got on Mondays. He practiced, like he played, you know what I mean, he was intense, he was purposeful, you don't mean he was intentional. And like, so I really respect him like that, but like, will he know? Like, I'm sure it's like people in the league that like, people are like, Oh man, Joey Porter crazy and all this stuff or James Harrison crazy. But like Ray was probably the most teased. Because there's just too much material out there. You know what I'm saying? Like we used to talk about his bald spots, talk about this gorilla meat in the back, you know what i'm saying. So like him and Jerome Bennett is probably the first people with Beijing, you know I'm sayin', with extra black, you know i'm sayin'. So we'd be takin' our team pictures, we'd like, ah, we know Ray in the shade somewhere, because you know, team picture, long day. You know, I mean, that sun get on that gorilla meat, that thing start leakin', you know how I'm sayin'. Who was that Mary-Judy Dining when he had that beige jean running outside of his face? That could be Ray sometimes, you know what I'm saying? So we used to have fun with Ray, man. What, he take you? Was he a good sport about it? Yeah, yeah. He thought I was crazy anyway. So he was like, I remember one time, me and him was arguing or something. He sold me out, though. Me and him were arguing. And Larry Johnson ran right past us. You know what i'm saying. We had given up a hundred yard rush there in like a year.
[01:19:49] Bart Scott Two years. Larry Johnson ran about 50 yards and me and him arguing about the calling date. So we get into a meeting like, y'all be like, man, what the hell y' all doing? Like, I'm sitting on the field arguing with Bart. I'm like, this motherfucker right here threw my ass under the bus, man.
[01:20:02] Craig Carton How hard is it not winning the Super Bowl in Baltimore?
[01:20:05] Bart Scott It was tough, man, and oddly enough, the Steelers, they stopped us from going to the Super Bowl there when I was at the Jets. It was just tough, because we were a defensive team, and we had, like, Flacco was my quarterback. He won at Super Bowl, but he was a rookie, then I had Sanchez, and Sanchez was a rookie. I used to have this running joke with Tony Gonzalez trying to figure out who played with the worst quarterbacks. You know what I'm saying, we have to say name the quarterback. Like, I played with Anthony Wright, aka Anthony Rome, Kyle Bowler, I play with Jeff Blake. Jeff Blake had, like, the Junior Whopper hands, he just dropped the ball. Yeah, he'd just drop the ball, man. He had, man, like the only person hands I ever shook that was smaller than Blake's was like, uh, Cat Williams. You know what I'm saying? I feel like he had three fingers. Like, damn, Jeff. What are you doing with the rest of your hand? You know I'm sayin'? Who else? Chris Redman? Oh, man... Yeah.
[01:21:00] Craig Carton It's a bad quarterbacks. You are Wayne roots for a team. That's that generation. Yeah
[01:21:04] Bart Scott Yeah, I hate that, man. They just get them in a coach. Just always get a decent coach. I guess it's Anthony Richardson or whatever his name is, Richardson.

But Beats was all bass when you had like the pills and stuff like that. But you know, music is a part of the culture. Every era has its own soundtrack, you know what I'm saying? When you think about like the Fab Five Jordan, you think of every era has a soundtrack. And what I love about music is it takes you back to a moment. I can hear a song and I can remember exactly where I was. And what I was thinking and what life was.
