About Me

You know those shows that feature some dude who gets turned into a werewolf and then spends the entire movie/series complaining about it? Eff those guys! I will gladly take on the burden of being a werewolf, as I legit see no downside to being one.

Anyway, I digress. Throughout my career, I have been a jack of all trades, master of none. I have worked in fields as diverse as customer service, IT, and medical credentialing. I have been writing on and off over the years, but have finally decided to get serious about it. I participated in my first NaNoWriMo in November 2020 and won (which was a pretty big deal for me, if not for anyone else).

When not writing or working, I can be found hosting the Empty Pages podcast, and co-hosting the Tricky Fish podcast (along with my daughter), learning to play guitar, and hanging out with my partner in crime, a Golden Retriever named Lord Bark Vader.

What is Empty Pages?

The personal podcast for Ian MacTire, writer / podcaster / werewolf. This podcast follows my journey from first draft to published novel and beyond.

Welcome to Empty Pages, which chronicles my journey from first draft to published manuscript and beyond. I'm your host, Ian MacTire.

This is the intro episode that tells you what this podcast is about and why you should listen. I just recently completed the first draft of my novel, which is totally not ready for primetime, but that's what subsequent drafts are for. While I'm not a published writer at this time, I certainly aspire to be one. Over the years, I've made multiple attempts at writing a book. I've certainly started more than I have completed, which makes completing this first draft so exciting for me.

As an aspiring writer, I have read countless articles, watched countless YouTube videos, and listened to many podcast episodes telling us how to craft that perfect first sentence, how to write an outline, what tropes are good and which are bad, as well as how to get an agent and get published. What I haven't found is someone who has pulled back the curtains to show the day to day struggles and triumphs of going from an empty page to a manuscript ready to be published. As such, it has been a lonely journey thus far.

And then it hit me! Since I'm just beginning this journey, why not chronicle it and share it with others? There are many people out there just like me who struggle, who look at their first drafts and think they will never be as good as writers like Stephen King, Clive Barker, John Grisham or Ania Ahlborn. What we are never told or shown is that these writers have also struggled with the empty page and multiple drafts to get their story to a point where we are able to read it.

I'm not an expert by any means, I'm just a random guy with an awesome dog, and while I can't tell you what to write, how to write, how to get published, or how to get it to best seller status once it is, what I can offer is a fellow writer's journey from that empty page to published and beyond. Along the way, I will share any tips, tricks, and information as I learn them so that you too can achieve your dreams of being a writer, and finally, so you can stop feeling so alone in this endeavor.

I intend to release episodes covering these things weekly. If you have any suggestions of things you would like me to cover, if you have any questions you would like me to answer, please feel free to reach out to me. You can reach me via my website, ianmactire.com, or on Twitter and Instagram as @ianmactire.

I look forward to sharing my journey with you. Stay classy and write those stories.
