Jimbo Robinson:

Welcome back to the Duck Den. We have a very special guest that, prob has had a huge day. First trade show. First trade show. First collab drop.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

First collab drop. How's it been? It's been pretty good. Club country. First trade show here at Ducks.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Thank y'all for allowing us to be a part of it. And, man, it's been awesome. You know, first little collab with Gunner Gunner Kennels. And, you know, sitting there outside the shooting booth, you just you sit you sit there, you see a lot of people go through there, and then they filter our way, and it's just it's awesome. It's been a great great day.

Jimbo Robinson:

Good. Well, for those who don't know, this is Duck Hodges, and we have had a lot of fun the last few days here and and just it it's really cool to watch kinda watch where you started. Right? That that February drop and where it is to now being a part of the largest waterfowl show in the world and and and having you here and then dropping a collab with Gunners, a great corporate partner of Ducks Unlimited. It's just it's a full circle moment for us here because we kinda know the roots of it.

Jimbo Robinson:

Right? We've we've talked about it numerous times on several different podcasts, but it's been fun to see.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Yeah. And then, I mean, when I came and spoke at third term, which by the way, I've had so many people come up and be like, thank you for coming speaking of that. They're here? I've had maybe it was like volunteers. Yeah.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

It was people. I mean, I've had like 20 people, like, thank you so much. So I wanna do something there next year, come hang out with the kids, by the way. So you can go ahead and book it. I'll be there next year to do something.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

But now it's, it's full circle for me too. Just even thinking about, what's cool is, you know, Ducks when it was in Texas Yes. At the Motor Speedway, me and Carter Oliver worked the first ever Shin DUX booth Yes. Together. So it's it's it's cool that, you know, here four or five years later, one, what DUX has turned into, but also to be able to have my own brand, you know Oh, yeah.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Launching it. It's just it's awesome.

Jimbo Robinson:

And, you know, what was fun this morning is I was sitting in the chair that you're sitting in, had to change it up a little bit. I was sitting in that chair when they opened the doors, when mayor Paul Young and and our president, Rex Shultz, opened the doors and watching people run-in here, kids and and in tow with their dads, like, I know that your dad means a lot to you, and you all have grown up hunting together, and it's just amazing to watch the next generation walking around in here, and who's the next duck in here, or who's the next trip Robinson in here. And and it's just fun to see the passion being spread in a community that means a lot to both of us. Being this this Mecca here of Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee Kentucky. Kentucky.

Jimbo Robinson:

Kentucky, Illinois. There's a lot here.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Yeah. There's a lot. And there's a lot to take in. No. It it is awesome.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

That's like, you know, right before we, you know, went on air. Is this live, by the way?

Jimbo Robinson:

It is. Streaming? It's streaming.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

So streaming. YouTube?

Jimbo Robinson:

Yeah. YouTube. Check out Ducks YouTube at the same time.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Yeah. Yeah. Just subscribe. But right before we started, you know, I was telling you about my idea to, like, to get youth involved because I it is I know for me and you, it's super important Yep. The next generation.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

And I think me and you were both blessed to, you know, have someone to kinda show us the ropes. Duck hunting, the waterfowl industry is growing, and there's a lot of people that may not have that person to kinda teach them. So it's just important for, you know, people like myself to use my platform and to, you know, be that person for them, you know, whether it's through YouTube or at the show or whatever, being able to come up, talk, get any kind of little advice. Not that I know it all because I don't I don't I don't know a lot, but, man, just You know enough. I don't I I guess I know enough.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

But, yeah, it's important, and it's it's cool to see, you know, kids walking around with the duck calls. I mean, I remember, you know, getting the the green wing duck call back in the day, you know, that little youth duck call. It's just it's full circle moment for me in just so many different ways.

Jimbo Robinson:

Well, you know, you talk about blending lifestyles. Right? And I think that the blending of lifestyles in today's world is something that the this group of young hunters, outdoorsman, they're gonna have to do. Right? There's so many other things that can that be involved, and what you've done in your platform is blended golf and and the outdoors and hunting, and you've done it in an incredible way.

Jimbo Robinson:

And I think that it it speaks to a lot of kids because I've seen some kids walking around with a club country hat on today, and and, you know, when you when you think about duck hunting, you don't necessarily think about golf, but it's two things that you're very passionate about. It's something that that Matt was up here, he he said the same thing. Like, I love to go out and play golf, but also love to be in the outdoors and and but blending the lifestyles is something that we as a community of outdoorsmen, we have to do, and we gotta get used to doing that. Yeah.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

And and honestly, I think it's something that like people have done their whole life. I mean, I've met so many people like the the whole reason I started Club Country, it was because I kept going to all these different golf courses and running into people that I either had met at a trade show, you know, or while hunting in Arkansas, and then just started realizing, man, there's so many people that already kind of blend this lifestyles together of, you know, hunting and golf and whatnot. And now here we are at Club Country, you know, where where country meets golf, golf brand for the outdoorsman, all that stuff.

Jimbo Robinson:

I mean, you you've we're you're gonna eventually swing it in snaps. Right? Is it's gonna come. Right? We're gonna see guys swinging in pearl snap soon.

Jimbo Robinson:

Know I your boy, Mule, does it.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Yeah. Carter Oliver, I mean, he he swears if you wear a pearl snap golfing, you're like 10 strokes better than, you know, if you're not wearing a pearl snap.

Jimbo Robinson:

So Oh, man. There must be some there may be something to the swinging and snaps.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Swinging and snaps. I kinda like that line. You do? Swinging and snaps.

Jimbo Robinson:

I just made it up.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

We might have just found a new tagline for the future, swinging and snaps. Hey. Heard it here first.

Jimbo Robinson:

Heard it here first.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Jimbo Robinson. Yep. Thank

Jimbo Robinson:

you. Yep. You know, it's but there's something to that. Right? You don't see that.

Jimbo Robinson:

You don't see the button ups out there, but I think that we may be onto something.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

We'll find out. Time will tell. But either way, I mean, just having, you know, with club country with us having, you know, pearl snaps and polos, that's kinda what our thing is gonna be. Man, there's so many of us that when you get down duck hunting, or it's the off season, you know, my goal is hopefully that if you're an outdoorsman and you go to a dinner or if you go to church or if you go to a bar or whatever it may be, and only in the South can you talk about dinner and bar and church all in the same sentence.

Jimbo Robinson:

Right.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

If you go to one of those places

Jimbo Robinson:

We call those never mind.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

If you go to one of those places, you know, and you love polos and pearl snaps, you know, you're repping club country because of what it represents.

Jimbo Robinson:

I wore that shirt last night. I wore the blue one earlier in the week. I I will say it. I've worn a lot of shirts in my life. It is the most comfortable shirt I've ever worn in my life.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Like Appreciate it.

Jimbo Robinson:

I I will I will say that, and I am very, very particular.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

And he's texting me that I have. Just randomly, so I know it's not biased for the shirt.

Jimbo Robinson:

No. It's not. Like, I I am very, very particular about about clothes, and and and a lot of people laugh at me because they say I like to be different, and I do. But I think that you're onto something, and it's been exciting to be here. But what what's day one been like for you?

Jimbo Robinson:

What's what's what's the drop been like? What's your feelings go on a for a Friday? And and kind of you've done a lot of these shows. You've traveled around with with Shen and other companies. What what does this look like for you and and overall?

Jimbo Robinson:

I mean, overall, it

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

is definitely the most impressive Friday of a DUX that I've been to. And honestly, one of the most impressive Fridays of any trade show that I've been to. I mean, The Mount I know y'all probably talked about it, but I mean, the lines before it opened were pretty crazy, especially for it being on a Friday. I mean, you know, kids are out of school, but people have to work and there's a lot

Jimbo Robinson:

Shelby County Schools is not. Like, there is a school that isn't yeah. Shelby County Schools are in. Yeah. Some of the municipalities where

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

I

Jimbo Robinson:

live there, they start next week, but Memphis City Schools are in are in.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

So And typically on a trade show, like, can base your Saturday off how your Friday is, and it's been a good starting point. So I'm excited not only for us, but just for everyone, for Ducks Unlimited about tomorrow because Saturdays are always the big days and 09:00 tomorrow?

Jimbo Robinson:

09:00. 9AM. And you know, I thank you for that, but this show is not about Ducks Unlimited. It's about the opportunity for us to bring together the community.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

For sure.

Jimbo Robinson:

Right? This show is about the vendors, our volunteers that are here, the attendees that that go to a Ducks Unlimited event to have an opportunity to come in and share with all of these great vendors and everybody in this community. That's what makes DU who it is. We we allowed the platform for us this to happen, but but to us, it's watching the excitement on your face, what you told me, how your business has been so far. It's the excitement of the kids running around and and getting duck calls and and sweatshirts, and and apparently, there's a bag boutique here too because that just popped up on my credit card statement a little while ago, but my daughter's running around having the time of her life, but that's what it's about.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Think I I'll find her, take her to Club Country, buy a bunch of stuff for you.

Jimbo Robinson:

Yeah. Well, I just left there. I left my wife in your booth

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

That's true.

Jimbo Robinson:

And she was stacking some stuff on the counter.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Actually, you know what? Hold on. I think Shopify just went off. It did? Great.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Yeah. Last name Robinson, $100.

Jimbo Robinson:

Yep. Thank you. Oh, man. New wardrobe for a long time. Thank you.

Jimbo Robinson:

But so one of the things I wanted to ask you about was, you know, not only we talked about blending the lifestyles, but so you got club country, you got golf, you got the outdoors, and then you brought in Addison and Gunner. Like, so it's almost a triangle there because now we're bringing in the dog world. What what why did that how did you and Addison, and and Addison's a dear friend of the Ducks, great partner of ours. How did bringing where where did the Gunnar collab and dropping it first come from?

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

So it kinda started actually masters week. We were both in Augusta. Addison came to so we threw a party in Augusta this past year.

Jimbo Robinson:

There were a lot of people on that invite list. Mine mine was lost in the mail. I saw Pat Spinosa there too.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

I think your wife just hid it from you.

Jimbo Robinson:

Oh. Oh, good. She want me going to Augusta that weekend. I got it.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Oh. So anyways, we talked there in Addison. So we had a party on Wednesday night and Addison had went to the tournament that day. It was the par three and he went there and he was telling me about how he saw, like, the security dogs all had Gunner Kennel. Now they had to take the Gunner Kennel tag off

Jimbo Robinson:

because it's They don't let anything They don't let anything Right.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

But he was just like, man. I was like, Addison, the the amount of people that probably golf that own a Gunner Kennel, like, would probably be probably be mind blowing to you. And, Harrison had kinda knew about club country and whatnot, and, Harrison just kinda asked because I told him I wanna do some collabs. And he's like, how do I be your first collab? And I said, well, if you wanna be my first collab, let's just do it.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Like, one, he wanted to be the first collab, and two, it made sense for us because we're both Nashville based companies. So just, you know, starting that community in Nashville, whatnot, and then obviously trying to expand it. For me, it was a no brainer because if I drive down I 40 going from Memphis to Nashville, I'll see a 100 Gunner Kennels in the back of trucks, and I it's a safe bet that there's a good chance that, you know, 70% of those guys probably golf. Right. So it was just a cool way to, you know, kinda tip our cap to, those that love a good hunting dog, that love a good afternoon on golf course.

VO:

Stay tuned to the Ducks Unlimited Podcast sponsored by Bird Dog Whiskey after these messages.

Jimbo Robinson:

That's one of the things that you'll once you get to know Ashton, you understand that he he loves legacy, and everything that he's doing is is a legacy and and one of the greatest stories that I like to tell about Ashton is that when he was young and building his first kennel, he still and and if you watch his ten year video, he talks about it in that video, but he had a checklist of things he wanted to accomplish.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Have have you been to his office? Yes. How cool is that wooden board?

Jimbo Robinson:

It's amazing. Yeah. But he still has it. Still is working off of it. Right?

Jimbo Robinson:

And so one of them up there is have the Ducks Unlimited logo on the kennel, and that's actually on the original drawing. If you go look at his original drawings where he sketched it out, having DU, excuse me, on that kennel was something that he always wanted. And so being a you know, that he's such a good partner of DU and have watching him and and y'all collab. It's a really cool thing, but it's a legacy, and it's something that he's always wanted. And and it's what kinda what you're doing in this brand as well as starting kind of a you know, what what will be a legacy brand and bringing so many things together under one roof is just really cool to watch.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

I appreciate it. I'm excited about

Jimbo Robinson:

it. What, where are you going this fall? I know you got some big trips planned. What, what's the fall look like for you?

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

So we got, you know, we got bow season. We're going we're gonna travel, do a little deer hunting. I got a, I got a elk hunt lined up for New Mexico with with my bow, and then we get into duck season. And honestly, I tell this I tell people all this the time, I'm not the person that that plans. Like, I don't really plan trips.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Like, I just I'm thankful that I kinda have the schedule to if I need to go somewhere tomorrow, I can. So I keep a few places in mind as far as, like, Kansas, North Dakota, Canada. I don't really plan, you know, trips, but I will be traveling all over the country chasing ducks, deer. I'm I got a big fall lined up, so I gotta get this is going well. I got a good team behind me, so they know come come hunting season.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

It's gonna get

Jimbo Robinson:

a lot harder to contact me on the phone. So It's hard now. But so what when when, like, what do you look at the future, let's say, the next six months with with with club country? Do you see a collab? Do you see a lot more collabs coming?

Jimbo Robinson:

Do you see a whole new line coming? Do you see you expanding into other things? What does that look like? Let's six months, a year down the road. Where where do you see club country going?

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Yeah. I I think, you know, later this year, we got a few more different SKUs. So, like, our we got polos, pearl snaps, and hoodies right now. And in the fall, we'll add a few SKUs like quarter zip, some vest, small. I think twenty twenty seven will be huge for us.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

I mean, we're gonna add golf shorts. We're gonna add all kinds of golf accessories. I definitely see more collabs in the future. I've I've be I've been open about it. I'd love to do Ducks Unlimited collabs.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

I see, you know, a possibility of collab. I mean, there's stuff that we're working on. Again, you know, when I first started, you know, Club Country and how my whole idea was it was a it's on a whiteboard and it's Ducks Unlimited, Chin Gear, Yeti, Turtle Box, you know, to go. It's all these big brands in the outdoor space, and then it's like, alright. Here's the golf brands, great golf brands, but what golf brand fits into this Club country.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

And my goal is to do a collab with everyone on that whiteboard because, I mean, it is. It's a community, and everyone on that whiteboard loves golf. Everyone plays golf when it's not hunting season. Everyone at some point thinks that they're gonna go out there and shoot, you know, a 72. It's just everyone.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

It's the only sport that most of us can compete the rest of our life in, and it's just cool. It's cool to see how many people just have responded to club country. So I'm excited about next year, you know, looking at a year from now is I don't know. I don't know where we're gonna be, but the Lord's gonna

Jimbo Robinson:

take us to awesome places. There's no doubt. I have noticed lately that you probably need to fine tune a little bit your dancing skills. You know, you're you're always one thing about you is, and and you told the third term kids, is you're always yourself. You're the same person no matter whenever you meet you, but but your dancing skills, I think you need to get some more pointers.

Jimbo Robinson:

I know I noticed the other day

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

that it was Look now. Was a little rusty. I was a professional athlete and a really good duck caller, so a dancer just thrown out the back window, but I wanna try.

Jimbo Robinson:

You keep you the moves are are epic. I mean, you still got the the the moves, the the heart, the Look, I got them. Just when that camera rolls.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

I'd love to see you try, Jimbo.

Jimbo Robinson:

I can't. I did. Yeah.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

But I would love to watch it.

Jimbo Robinson:

No. I I tried the other day.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Okay.

Jimbo Robinson:

And I'm good slow motion. So I mean, slow pace.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Oh, well, yeah. I mean, that's easy. You are too. Yeah. I mean, come on.

Jimbo Robinson:

But it has been fun watching watching it. And one of the cool things was we talked about this earlier man, the power couple. Right? And talked about the authenticity and the just, you know, you told those kids in third term numerous times that it's all about being yourself and following your dream. So some of the kids that are here, what what do you what is one thing you tell one of these youngsters walking around here that that maybe is is just getting into the sport of waterfowling?

Jimbo Robinson:

You know, what advice would you give them to to follow their dreams?

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

You know, I would just tell them pretty much same thing I told the kids at third term is truly like, one, be passionate about something and have fun. Because, like, I think so many people get caught up in, you know, this whole world and expectations and whatnot. And I and I I I did this too. It's it's very easy to not just enjoy being where your feet's at. Amen.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

So, man, just enjoy today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Enjoy today, live it up today, and, man, when you start surrounding yourself with the right people and you got dreams and you enjoy each and every day, you put your faith in the glory, like, everything will take care

Jimbo Robinson:

of itself. There's no doubt.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

And I struggle with it. We all struggle with it, but man, it's just it's it's on the it's on the

Jimbo Robinson:

bad days just pushing through. Absolutely. And being yourself is one of those things that, you know, in this in this in this industry, in the waterfowling industry, sometimes people wanna be other people. Right? Sometimes people are wanna chase something that's not really there, and I think that you've said it to notice.

Jimbo Robinson:

If you if you stay in today, stay in the moment, be yourself, and and chase your dream, then Yeah. And be happy with what you have.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

It's very it's very easy to get on social media and start comparing yourself, you know, even during hunting season. Like, I've done it before. Like, you get on like, you go have a bad day hunting and you get on social media and you start comparing yourself and whatnot. It's very easy to do. So look look who we got in the crowd here.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

We got Phil Norris and Connor Dice in the crowd. Check them out.

Jimbo Robinson:

Legends. Legends. Legends. Oh. Memphis legends.

Jimbo Robinson:

Hunting legends. Minnesota legend. I mean, golly.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Okay. Big fan. Big fans. Yeah. So, I mean, it truly is just like not trying to compare yourself to others.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

It's it's easy to do. We all do it. You know, I think this whole hunting industry, you know, the pile picks, the kill picks. I mean, I I I know I posted them, but that truly isn't what it's about. I mean, shooting shooting ducks and having a 10 man limit of mallards is a cherry on top of just being able to go out there.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

And, you know, I think I think there's a lot of people in the hunting world that are truly showing the side of just enjoying the hunt. You know, I I I think we do a good job with on the YouTube. I know K Tricky, if you ever watch his YouTube, man, he does a great job. I mean, that dude goes and hunts by himself all the time. So, man, just truly, you know, being in the moment and just enjoying where you're at.

Jimbo Robinson:

I asked the guest earlier today. I was like, what what what advice would you tell a kid that, you know, especially in this influencer world nowadays? And one of the things he said was, man, be nice. Like, be nice.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

It's the it's the easiest thing to do.

Jimbo Robinson:

It is the easiest thing to do. And, you know, one of the things about this community and this this event is is there there's some of the there's a lot of brands in here that compete every single day for the same dollar, but what you will notice is is everybody's walking around shaking hands, great to see you. This the show atmosphere is an atmosphere that brings the community together in a very, very nice way, and and there's after parties and there's all those things. And when you go to an after party, when you go to an event here, there are no brands. Everybody is is a team, and it's almost like, hey.

Jimbo Robinson:

How can we show this to the public? Because if the public would act more like we do at a trade show, we wouldn't have some of

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

these inner fights that the waterfowl industry gets sometimes. I've always said there there's enough room for everyone to be successful. I've I've said on numerous podcasts, like, when I used to hunt public land all the time, like, nothing was more fun than when everyone was shooting ducks. Like no one was fighting, everyone was having a good time and that's what it's all about. Like, and you're right, when you go to these, you know, after parties and whatnot, I've I've said on comments on Instagram all the time, you know, Sitka, don't matter whose party it is, like when you go to after party, everyone's there.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Everyone's having a good time. I mean, this whole waterfowl just is a community that really just needs to come together and stay together because if we are not together as a community and supporting one another, like, why would anyone from an outside looking in wanna support this community? So it's always fun coming to these shows, seeing everyone, and having a good time.

Jimbo Robinson:

And we always, you know, there's a lot of things that are that are happening in the world right now that the waterfowl community is coming together and and when the prairies get threatened, this community, you know, will will bind together and and we'll fight the fights that we need to fight. And and, you know, it's it's it's great, and and I've truly enjoyed having you here. And and and, man, I I thank you for taking the time away from from your booth to be here with us, and look, our the crowd is growing. I mean, look at this. We have Wade Shoemaker out here and Martin.

Jimbo Robinson:

I mean,

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

look at this. Y'all must announce, Laney Wilson's husband was up here as well. No. No.

Jimbo Robinson:

I I we actually announced that

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

See, they're all leaving now. They're leaving.

Jimbo Robinson:

It's just her husband. It's just her husband. But, you know, I thanks for being here. Thanks for taking the time away from your booth. I know this is a big time for you, and, man, it's exciting to watch what you're doing.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:

Thank you. What you're doing in the Thanks for having me.

Jimbo Robinson:

Yep. So touch where can they find your stuff online?

Devlin "Duck" Hodges:
