Bishul 34 - Mixing Between Forms of Bishul 1 (Klal 20 Siman 10) S0531

We are beginning siman 10, where the Chayei Adam continues discussing the concept of bishul achar bishul as it applies to other forms of cooking, such as tzli (roasting) or afiyah (baking).

The Chayei Adam writes that when it comes to a davar yaveish, we have learned that ain bishul achar bishul. Similarly, ain tzli achar tzli, and ain afiyah achar afiyah. However, there is an opinion of one of the rishonim that mixing between forms of cooking, such as bishul achar afiyah or tzli achar bishul will be assur, because there is a significant change taking place in the item between the two times bishul is performed.

To that end, it is assur to take something which was already cooked in liquid, such as chicken from chicken soup, and reheat it without any liquid. The Chayei Adam specifies that it is assur even to place it near the fire (eitzel hamadurah). We will learn more about the halachos of shehiya and chazarah later in this klal, but for now, placing something near the fire will be muttar in most scenarios. Over here, the person’s plan is to leave it eitzel hamadurah, but because there is no liquid, when it gets to the temperature of yad soledes bo, it will roast (tzli). Since it had originally been cooked through bishul, the tzli will create significant change in the item. Therefore, this case is assur as well. Even if it is far enough from the fire to avoid any issues of chazarah, this would be considered tzli achar bishul, and it is assur.
Similarly, one cannot take something previously roasted or baked and place it into a kli rishon with liquid in order to heat it a second time. According to some opinions, due to the issue of kalei habishul, it would be assur to place bread even into a kli sheini liquid as well. We will clarify this issue further in the upcoming shiur, be’ezras Hashem.

Summary
Even though we pasken that by a davar yaveish, there is no issue of recooking the item, it is assur to heat the item a second time with a different form of cooking, such as tzli achar bishul or afiyah achar bishul.
