Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
Your hope is not in yourself; it is in Christ. Your weakness is united to
his strength, your ignorance to his wisdom, your frailty to his enduring
might. – Steps to Christ, pg. 70
Screeeeeech!
“GGRRRRRR!!!” I roared. I was ready to throw my violin out
the window. With angry, hot tears streaming down my face, I picked up
my violin for the umpteenth time and tried again.
Screeeech! Squaaaawk! Again, I let out the most frustrated
growl I could muster.
“I HATE VIOLIN!” I yelled at the top of my voice. No matter
how many times I picked up the violin and repeated the same
passage, I could never get it right. In utter defeat, I finally gave up,
resolving that violin was not for me.
At my lesson that week, it was no different; I still couldn’t
play it right. Seeing that we were getting nowhere, my violin teacher
decided to play the piece with me.
As we began together, I listened attentively to her violin’s
clear, sweet tone. Following her movements, I attempted to match her
sound.
Whoa! What a difference it made! My teacher’s wisdom and
expertise, united with my feeble attempts, had brought out the best in
me.
I am playing another piece: Life. When I try to live on my own,
I keep making the same mistakes. No matter how hard I try, I can’t get
it right. But when I start to live my life with Jesus—His strength, not my
own, will help me in my weakness. “It is by loving Him, copying Him,
depending wholly upon Him, that you are to be transformed into His
likeness” (Steps to Christ, pg. 70).
