What you'll get from this video:
- The 7 exact paid line items a local Ollama install now replaces
- The specific models to pull for vision, OCR, embeddings, and structured output
- Why embeddings + a local vector store is the biggest bill most operators don't know they signed
- The hardware floor to run the full stack (and where an 8GB laptop taps out)
- What Ollama still does NOT beat Claude on, and why I still pay for one thing

Open ollama.com/library yourself. Look at the tags on qwen3-vl, gemma 4, and glm-ocr: vision, tools, thinking, embedding. That is the proof, not me telling you.

What is Stewart Vickers AI?

The audio edition of the Stewart Vickers AI YouTube channel. Each episode takes one AI release - a model, a tool, a price cut - and translates it into money for business owners: what got cheaper, who got undercut, and what to do about it this week. Operator credibility over theory, specific numbers over vibes. Every episode links the original video and the free Church of SEO Jesus community where the prompts and workflows live.

Every week I open my card statement and there is another line for a tool Ollama now does for free on my laptop. $70 to $150 a month on one line alone. The week Ollama grew vision, embeddings and tool calls, it stopped being a chat toy. It started killing subscriptions I forgot I signed up for. Seven of them. And the last one is the biggest bill on the list.

Ollama is the free download that runs open source AI models on your own machine. 9 million people use it. Your data never leaves the laptop. Here are the seven paid tools it just replaced, ranked by what they cost you. Number seven is the stack a lot of businesses do not even know they are paying for. Number one, Vision.

2 Vision and Qwen3-VL locally. Drop in a screenshot, a receipt, a form, a chart. The Modal reads it back out to you in plain English. What that replaces is the paid Vision AP, is some teams glue into their software to read incoming documents, the little classifiers that tag customer photos and any workflow where you paid a vendor to look at an image. Cost before, a few cents PR call adds up fast and the vendor keeps every image you sent them. Cost after, zero and the picture never leaves your disk.

Set it up in 10 minutes. Number two, web search. Ollama shipped its own web search IPI in September 2025. Free tier, higher rates on cloud. Every agent tutorial for two years told you to sign up for a paid search IPI, plug in the key, watch the meter run. Search subscriptions are now optional.

The local Modal calls Ollama's endpoint, gets back real results, keeps working. A small automation that used to and a laptop and the query does not sit in someone else's log. Before number seven, one favor, hit subscribe. I cover every Ollama release, every new local Modal and every paid tool, a free download just killed the day it ships. The exact commands from this video sit in the pinned comment and the church of SEO Jesus, my free school community is where the Modal list, the setup scripts and the wallet math for every subscription I retire live. Link is below.

Number three, image generation. As of January this year, Ollama generates images locally on Mac OS. Windows and Linux support is coming. Not going to lie, quality is not mid-journey yet. For thumbnails, blog headers and internal mockups, a small team burns 10 to $30 a month across three tools. A The 50 prompts you would have burned on a monthly plan to iterate a header image now cost the same as the electricity to run your fan for an hour.

Free tier of one on your own hardware. Number four, tool cooling. Ollama shipped tool support in July 2024 and streaming tool calls in May 2025. Your local Modal can now trigger actions on its own. Look up a customer, send an email, hit an internal API, update a sheet. Every small automation SaaS priced at 20 to $50 a month is competing with a laptop running Lamar that does the same job for free and the customer data never leaves the office.

Your developer wires it up in an afternoon. Their competitor did it last quarter. Number five, OCR. GLM OCR is a multimodal document reader available on Ollama. 6 million downloads. Point it at a stack of scanned PDFs, invoices or contracts, and it pulls the text and the structure back out.

What that replaces is a doobie acrobat pro at $20 a month. Whatever cloud OCR your bookkeeper is billing on and every one off SaaS that charges PR document scanned. Legal, medical, financial documents. The file never leaves the machine, which is the part your officer cares about more than the $20. Number six, structured output. Ollama can now be told, return your answer as JSON that matches this exact shape.

Any workflow that used to call GPG-4o-mini to classify a message, extract fields from an email or tag a lead can run locally with guaranteed formatting. Claude priced that job at roughly 15 cents PR million tokens in and 60 cents PR million out, times however many thousand messages a day you push through. On a laptop that cost is zero and the customer's message stays on your side of the wire. Set it up once, it just runs. Number seven, the big one, embeddings. If you have never heard of them, embeddings are how AI search works.

Every FAQ chatbot, every internal knowledge lookup, every AI product that answers questions from your own docs runs on embeddings and a vector database. Ollama runs Namic Embed Text and MXBaid AMBEDlarge and BGAM3 locally. And I asked Claude to price out the paid alternatives live in the terminal. Here is what it said. OpenAI's TextEmbedding3 charges two to 13 cents PR million tokens. Pinecone, the vector database most teams pair with it, runs $50 to $70 a month on a standard plan.

Together, $70 to $150 a month for a modest corpus. Ollama replaces both. One command downloads the Modal, one local process holds your vectors. Your entire company's documents get indexed once on a laptop and never touch anyone else's server. Businesses that quietly signed a Pinecone contract last year are the ones whose CFO should watch this segment twice. com slash library yourself right now.

Look at the tags on Qwen3-VL, Gemma4 and GLMOCR. Vision, tools, thinking, embedding. That is the proof, not me telling you. Honest caveat, you need 16 gigs of RAM to run the 7 workflow stack smoothly. Thirty-two for the bigger models. Apple Silicon or a decent GPU carries the load.

An 8 gig laptop from 2019 will not clear this bar, and pretending it will is why some Ollama guides read as slop. Now the honest part, Ollama does not beat Claude on the hardest tasks, and I still pay for Claude for the work that has to be right the first time. Everything else, the OCR, the embeddings, the classifiers, the internal search, the image tagging, the automation glue, has quietly moved on machine, and the operator who runs the numbers first gets the margin. The one who does not runs the same business $150 a month more expensive. Same output, worse balance sheet. The window on that arbitrage closes fast, because every competitor watching this video is doing the same math right now.

If you want the full 7 tool cancel list, with the exact Modal picks and setup scripts, that lives inside Church of SEO Jesus, my free school community, Modal list, setup scripts, wallet math for every subscription I retire, all in there.
