I Don’t Know How But They Found Me – What Love?

Part 1
CARRTOONS feat Haile Supreme – Spaceships
- What a difference a week and a half makes, huh? Lots of new albums have dropped since the Chuseok holiday started up until this week Tuesday, so quite a few albums to discuss this entire hour.
- Notably, CARRTOONS t/n Andrew Carr released a new album, the 2nd in two years’ time after last year’s very solid LP titled Homegrown.
- The new album just out Saturday Night just dropped last Friday, so go check it if you dug the opening vibes right there.
Alanna Royale – Run Around
- Another album that just dropped last Friday is Alanna Royale’s, which as we discussed last night with Dunia has been a long time travelling down the road to find a home.
- The song we played last night from the album Fall In Love Again was released via Colemine Records, but just as a single. However, the Trouble Is LP is out in full as of last Friday so go give some support to a lovely singer-songwriter based in Nashville, our friend Alanna Royale.
Say She She – The Water
- The femme power trio and Chic Org throwdown massive have released their 2nd album in two years, this time a double LP which dropped Sept 29.
- Silver is the title, and it cannot be overstated the big steps this band is making in fanbase via their relentless live performances on tour. Big up to Piya, Nya, and Sabrina...keep killin’ em, ladies.
Izo Fitzroy – Black Insides
- As discussed previously on the show both in the leadup and aftermath, the UK-based soul singer Izo Fitzroy released a very solid album earlier this year called A Good Woman.
- This tune just dropped on Sept 29 as a standalone single, which followed a relentless year of releases which included not only a stellar album but a remixes EP which was equally good, and this puts a nice little bow on 2023 for Fitzroy. Very well done.
Kamaal Williams – Dogtown
- Another album that dropped right before we all gathered the harvest and looked at the supermoon here in Korea is called Stings, which dropped via Black Focus Records.
- This would be the London-based Kamaal Williams’ third career LP, and getting decent reviews thus far since dropping in full on Sept 27.

Part 2
Ohio Players – Our Love Has Died
- For any of you who count yourselves amongst the old school crowd, you might be excited by this, as the Ohio Players have just reissued and remastered their 1972 classic album Pleasure to celebrate the album’s 50th anniversary since release (I mean, it was released in December of 1972, so not a huge deal on the chronological math, really).
- The band’s 3rd studio album is interesting vs their later works, showing off some jazzier tendencies than later records would.
The Teskey Brothers – Rain (Live at Red Rocks, 2023)
- One of the absolute best out of Aus is back with this, a live rendition of Rain, which appears on the Melbourne-based blues rock band’s Run Home Fast LP from 2019.
- Few bands can match Sam and Josh Teskey on the slow-burn bluesy delivery, and this version captures that fact perfectly.
Cleo Sol – Desire
- And in yet another Sept 29 album release, one of the most engaging and paradoxically enigmatic artists of this generation Cleo Sol just dropped a fourth studio album called Gold.
- As you might expect, getting very high ratings amongst the critterati since proper release.
Nogymx – South of the River
- This single dropped Sept 27, and is from the prolific Irish Seoul-based lo-fi producer’s upcoming album Pahdo, or Wave.
- Now approaching 100 million streams for his music, Nogymx just continues to get better & better. Can’t wait to hear the album, that’s gonna be sweet.
Sirens of Lesbos – Sweet Harmony
- Now this is an album we definitely didn’t sleep on, but since it dropped Sept 22 we really didn’t have a chance to air it.
- The band based in the Swiss capital of Bern slapped this upcoming tune on their 2nd career LP titled Peace, so go and check it out if you like what’s coming up.
Hailu Mergia – Yegle Nesh (Live)
- This would be the 2nd single from the Ethiojazz legend’s upcoming live album, and Hailu Mergia we are happy to report has not lost a single step.
- The live album is titled Pioneer Works Swing (Live), and will be out Nov 3 on all platforms.

Part 3 – AMPED with Dan Lloyd
Sleater-Kinney – Hell
Blink 182 – Dance With Me
Sum 41 – Landmines

I Don’t Know How But They Found Me – What Love?

Sleater-Kinney – Hell
Sleater-Kinney have shared the details of Little Rope, their upcoming album out January 19th via Loma Vista. They’re celebrating the news with its lead single “Hell,” out now, along with an extensive run of 2024 tour dates.
The follow-up to 2021’s Path of Wellness is billed as “one of the finest, most delicately layered records” in Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein’s prolific discography. But in its complex, ambitious instrumentation is an unimaginable tragedy: Last fall, Brownstein received a call from Italian embassy staff with the news that both her mother and stepfather had been killed in a car accident during a vacation.
Some of Little Rope had been written at that point, but as Brownstein and Tucker brought the material to the studio, all the music they put to tape became imbued with grief. With each vocal harmony and guitar riff, the album navigates loss — not just its initial pang, but how it transforms us and our subsequent relationships forever.
All those heightened emotions are felt in “Hell,” which builds from a simple arrangement into an explosion of noisy guitar and Tucker’s unmistakable pointed yowls: “Hell don’t have no worries/ Hell don’t have no past/ Hell is just a signpost when you take a certain path.” It arrives with an accompanying music video starring Miranda July, who makes the tune all the more moving.

Blink 182 – Dance With Me
Blink-182 have shared “Dance with Me,” the latest single from their upcoming album ONE MORE TIME….
ONE MORE TIME… is Blink’s first new album since the return of guitarist Tom DeLonge, so it’s not too surprising to see them lean into the nostalgia factor with “Dance with Me.” In its cheeky music video, the band seem to poke fun at not only themselves, but the punk purists who called them sellouts back in the day. The clip starts with a faux TV interview, in which the band all appear to be doing their best Joey Ramone cosplay: “What the hell is punk? And is it punk that I said ‘hell?'” a Barbara Walters-esque hosts asks.
“Dance with Me” isn’t the most punk tune around, but it has all the major tenets of a Blink-182 song: Breakneck drums, zippy guitar riffs, a chorus about “doin’ it all night long,” and a reference to masturbation.

Sum 41 – Landmines
Sum 41 have unveiled the new single “Landmines,” the Canadian punk band’s first new song in four years. The tune comes as the band plans to disband following the release of a final album and a yet-to-be-announced farewell tour.
“When I wrote ‘Landmines’ I had no intention of writing an old school ‘pop punk’ song,” said frontman Deryck Whibley of the new track. “It just came out really quickly and I knew right away that this song felt special to me.”
While no formal album announcement has been made, it can be assumed that “Landmines” will appear on Sum 41’s final LP. Whibley has previously mentioned that the effort will be a double album titled Heaven :x: Hell, split between pop-punk and metal.
The band confirmed the album title when they announced their impending breakup earlier this year, stating, “Sum 41 will be disbanding. We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album Heaven :x: Hell, along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate.”

Crosses – Ghost Ride
††† (Crosses), the duo featuring Deftones singer Chino Moreno and producer/multi-instrumentalist Shaun Lopez, have released two new songs — “Light as a Feather” and “Ghost Ride” — from their upcoming studio album, God Bless, I Love U, Delete., arriving on October 13th.
The two-track bundle follows the release of “Invisible Hand” in August.

While the two new tracks don’t feature any guests, God Bless, I Love U, Delete. boasts contributions from The Cure’s Robert Smith and rapper El-P.
Crosses got their start in 2011 and released their self-titled debut album three years later. The group surprised fans in 2021 by releasing their first piece of music in seven years with a surprise cover of Q Lazzarus’ “Goodbye Horses.” After a couple of stand-alone singles, the project released the EP PERMANENT.RADIANT, followed by PERMANENT.RADIANT.REMIXED earlier this year.

Paramore – This Is Why (Foals Remix)
Paramore have returned with Re: This Is Why, an all-star reimagining of their sixth studio album, This Is Why, by artists like Foals, Julien Baker, Wet Leg, Remi Wolf, and more.

Paramore first announced Re: This Is Why earlier this week, sharing on Twitter that they’ve “long wanted to recognize the connection we have with some of the artists who’ve influenced us as a band and/or who have cited our band as an influence.” Thus, the new version of the album features an exciting plethora of voices bringing new perspectives to the songs, whether that be through remixing them, or through making new arrangements altogether.
Along with the aforementioned artists, Re: This Is Why also features Panda Bear, Bartees Strange, The Linda Lindas, Zane Lowe, Romy, Claud, and DOMi & JD BECK. Additionally, the album includes a previously-unreleased demo, “Sanity.”

U2 – Atomic City
U2 are back with “Atomic City,” their first original new song in two years.
The Edge recently declared that he wanted U2 to lead a “resurgence of guitars” in pop music, and with “Atomic City,” he puts his money where his mouth is. The track — named after Las Vegas, where the band will soon perform a residency at the new Sphere — oscillates between staccato verses and a rollicking chorus as Bono sings, “Love is God and God is love/ And if your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.” A gospel chorus and squalling horns even make an appearance before the guitarist takes a proper solo.
U2 shot a music video for “Atomic City” in its namesake metropolis. While on set, Bono told the fans who gathered to catch the taping that the song is “a rock ‘n’ roll 45 in the tradition of ’70s post-punk, Blondie, the Clash, some ’70s punk…” Check out the band’s take on the style below.
Both the song and video feature Larry Mullen Jr. on drums. However, Mullen won’t be joining the band for its Vegas residency as he takes time off to undergo and recuperate from surgery. In his place, Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton will be joined by drummer Bram van den Berg.
U2’s last proper album was 2017’s Songs of Experience, though they issued Songs of Surrender — a reimagining of 40 songs from their back catalog — earlier this year.

English Teacher – Nearly Daffodils
English Teacher, the post-punk-ish Leeds indie band, impressed us with their summer single “The World’s Biggest Paving Slab.” They’re back today with another good one. “Nearly Daffodils” rides a crisp, relentless motorik pulse but also explodes into infernos of distortion from time to time. The band’s singer and leader Lily Fontaine describes it like so:

“Nearly Daffodils” is about heartbreak and acceptance of unfulfilled potential. How, no matter how much you may want something, no matter how much effort you may put into something’s growth or development, no matter how beautiful you can envision its fruition; life is a bitch and about as unstoppable as a freight train.

The Menzingers – Come on Heartache
The Menzingers are releasing a new album this week, Some Of It Was True, their follow-up to 2019’s Hello Exile.” They’ve shared “There’s No Place In This World For Me” and “Hope Is A Dangerous Little Thing” from it, and today they’re back with “Come On Heartache,” a rootsy lovesick track which comes with a video shot at Lynnewood Hall in Elkins Park, PA.
“This one felt extra special from the get go, it’s one of our favorites off the album and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do,” the band shared. “Thanks to Britain Weyant & co for crushing the video, and extra thanks to Lynnewood Hall for allowing us to film at their unbelievable location.”

Me Rex – Infinity Worm
ME REX are ramping up to the release of Giant Elk, which is being billed as their debut album now that 2021’s 52-track experiment Megabear has been retconned as — I don’t know, not their debut album? They definitely called it their debut at the time. In my heart, the great double-EP Triceratops/Stegosaurus was their debut album. But I digress.

So far ME REX have shared two Giant Elk singles, “Eutherians (Ultramarine)” and “Giant Giant Giant.” Today they’ve released a third, “Infinity Worm,” which begins with some emo-esque shredding and ends with a huge howl-along chorus. Myles McCabe offered this statement on the track:
Inspired by It Came from Outer Space and alien encounter movies like Galaxy Quest, District 9 and ET. “Infinity Worm” sees monstrous angels descending, leaving a fragmented sky behind, creatures that are torn to pieces regenerating anew and trying to find a place in the world. It’s a song about affirming humanity and inherent value.

Crawlers – Would You Come to My Funeral?
Liverpool-based quartet Crawlers have announced the release of their eagerly-awaited debut album, and celebrated the occasion by heading to a funeral that takes an unexpected turn in the video for banging single Would You Come To My Funeral.
The album, The Mess We Seem To Make, will drop on February 16 next year, following a hectic 18 months that have involved U.S. tours and playing The Eden Project with YUNGBLUD.
“This album comes from us honing our craft, being vulnerable with each other, finding our sound and saying exactly what we wanted to," says singer Holly Minto. "I think that's a lot of what the Crawlers sound is, being honest with each other about how to get the correct emotions out – trying, failing, and pushing each other to keep playing and writing to the limits.”

A. Savage – David’s Dead
On Friday, Parquet Courts’ A. Savage is releasing a new solo album, Several Songs About Fire. He’s shared two tracks from it so far, “Thanksgiving Prayer” and “Elvis In The Army,” and today is sharing one more, “David’s Dead.” a tribute to Savage’s homeless neighbor named David Lester. Here’s what he said about the track:

What can I say about the song ‘David’s Dead?’ Well I can tell you that it’s a portrait of the block in New York City that I called home for over a decade, each line sort of a tally of things that had changed in that time. I can tell you that David’s passing made some of those changes much more evident than they were before. I can tell you that the last time I saw David I bought him both a black coffee and a can of Crazy Stallion, and that we drank a coffee together on my stoop, but I said ‘see ya later’ when he cracked open the tallboy.

Health – Sicko Ft. Godflesh
HEALTH have announced a new album, RAT WARS, along with a 2024 North American tour. In advance of the album’s December 7th release date, the band has unveiled the tracks “Children of Sorrow” and “Sicko.”

The two singles showcase the multi-faceted sound that’s allowed HEALTH to expand their fanbase and crossover conventional genre barriers. “Children of Sorrow” features Lamb of God guitarist Willie Adler and has a tangible metal edge; meanwhile, “Sicko” samples Godflesh’s signature song “Like Rats” — appropriate given the title of the new album — and is an unabashed homage to industrial’s past, present, and future.

I Don’t Know How But They Found Me – What Love?
I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME – aka iDKHOW – have announced their highly-anticipated second album, GLOOM DIVISION.
Following a line-up change with drummer Ryan Seaman departing the band in September, frontman extraordinaire Dallon Weekes is forging ahead and will be releasing LP number two on February 23, 2024 via Concord.
He promises of what’s to come: “Writing has always been an outlet to exorcize your demons or difficult emotions, but with GLOOM DIVISION I made a conscious effort to stop censoring myself when it comes to the subject material, or what I wanted to say.”
To coincide with the announcement iDKHOW have unveiled new single and video, WHAT LOVE?
