Hi, I'm Sierra, I'm een.

Unknown Speaker 0:02
I'm Chloe.

Unknown Speaker 0:03
I'm Ashley.

Unknown Speaker 0:04
And we're the unqualified culinary critics, a podcast centered around food and cultural experiences. We want you to only share our own experiences. But hope these stories connect some way to each one of you as well. So when you guys were like in elementary schools did you guys have like hot lunch or cold lunch?

Unknown Speaker 0:21
Our schools had hot lunches, but I brought my own lunch. What I usually went for was just like the classic peanut butter sandwich and then some crackers. Probably Capri Sun, probably a snack pack.

Unknown Speaker 0:34
Did you ever like have like a hot lunch? Did you ever just like well,

Unknown Speaker 0:37
I remember one time because it still makes me sad when I didn't have my own lunch from home. And then I had my little lunch card to go buy lunch, but nothing I could eat. So I was vegetarian. So I had literally like hamburger buns. And that was all I ate for lunch.

Unknown Speaker 0:53
Gotta get those carbs in, right?

Unknown Speaker 0:55
Yeah. For us. I went through like a couple of phases of like, having my own lunch from home and then having lunch at school. But lunch at school. There was always different options on the day. So like, some days you had hamburgers. Some days we had, like they made like a sloppy joe type thing that was you just caught weren't quite sure it was in it, but you ate it anyway. Sometimes it was just like chicken nuggets. And then my favorite. And I'll always remember it was the circle pizzas that we called Galaxy pizzas. And those were like the go to when they had those. Everybody ran to the lunch line to get theirs first. And like you got that with like a cookie and something else. It was just the best day that was the best day. What about you,

Unknown Speaker 1:34
Ashley? Kind of a mix of everybody. Sometimes? Well, mostly I have hot lunch. And then other times I have cold lunch. But when I was growing up in elementary school, I kind of just took advantage of the whole hot lunch thing. But I didn't really know that as I get older. It's not like the best thing to eat. And it's just better that I bring food from my house, especially when my mom makes my meals. So I kind of would just lean more towards the cold lunch instead.

Unknown Speaker 1:59
I think like definitely towards the beginning of my elementary school, I had a lot more hot lunch. And we're like literally I would just like I think have hot lunch most days. And then like the days I didn't like it like I'd have cold lunch or whatever. So you could like circle whatever it is you wanted. And I liked it. There were some days like I really would have i I'm telling you I think we've talked about this I don't like milk will not drink it like just by itself. So I had my we had our family practitioner woman like write me a note. So that way, like saying that I couldn't have milk. So they had to provide me like juice and stuff. So the other kids were like mad because I'd have juice and they had to drink their milk. But I only think one time I thought I had hot lunch but I really had cold lunch. So I ended up with no lunch. So then I was traumatized. So then from like that moment forward, I'm like, I will be bringing my lunch forever. We had micro so I'd bring like in whatever leftovers we had ever my first day like fifth grade, I had to like leftover chicken gizzards for like lunch, which I love. I always have like such weird things my friends would like it was like a game to see like what I had for lunch that day. But I definitely loved like the rigatoni as I remember. I feel like I've definitely loved their chili, the pizza I've ever eaten tacos. And like the Debian the ranch, let's talk about dipping it in the ranch. Like, were you guys like those kids were like dousing their school lunch like Chucky Cheese launch and ranch.

Unknown Speaker 3:22
When say Tao Zenit. I just think I feel like you're like

Unknown Speaker 3:25
that tick tock girl, like, step away from the brand. And you're just gonna like be obsessed?

Unknown Speaker 3:30
Well, I wouldn't say I'm obsessed. But let her be her. I'm not going to, you know, get into the whole judgmental thing. I mean, that's just what people want. Yeah, I mean, it's the same thing with pineapple on pizza. I personally won't favorite myself. I have cousins in the Philippines who will do it. And I'm like, I'm not going to say hate you for no, no, no, no,

Unknown Speaker 3:46
just might judge a little.

Unknown Speaker 3:48
I mean, it's your opinion, you're entitled to it. But you can't just say like, Okay, you can't do it in front of me. No, you can, you know,

Unknown Speaker 3:55
see, give me all the smoke. I want the ranch on the pizza. But I grew up very picky. So personally, like growing up, I didn't like ranch. And then when I like as I got older, I enjoyed it. Then I had a period of high school, just the smell of ranch would make me like nauseous. And it's a whole story behind it that I'll explain. So at 16 years old, you know, you're not making the best decisions at life. So I was at a party one night, had a baseball game the next morning, of course. So we were staying up till two in the morning, and my one friend fell asleep. So my other friend decided to draw on his face. And he didn't really like that. So he said, If you do it again, I'm gonna do something to you. He wasn't sure what he was gonna do, but he was gonna do something. So he falls asleep again. And then once again, we're drawing on his face. And he comes he comes running out and his solution is to run to the fridge. He grabs a bottle of ranch runs back to us and just sprays it everywhere. And I got hit with a wave of ranch all over my shirt. So I had to take my shirt off like it was just so like the smell of ranch was so heavy like it made me sick. So I had to take my shirt off. I had a sweatshirt so I just had to wear that Got the rest of the night. And then in the morning, one of my mom picked me up, I had my shirt and it just reeks of ranch and she is gross. And she was like what is going on, and I had to explain it to her. It was embarrassing. Then I had to go to my baseball game and like seven in the morning, and like for a good three, four years, I could not be around Ranch, it would roast me out. But now since I've recovered from my trauma, I can eat ranch very happily. And I will also have pineapple on my pizza. So give me all the smoke because pineapple is good on pizza a little sweet to the pizza flavor is nice.

Unknown Speaker 5:35
And you gotta meet my cousin's I had along

Unknown Speaker 5:37
I don't like Hidden Valley like by when you go to a bar like Buffalo Wild Wings or something like that ranch was like so good. I love with my fries. But I was like the stereotypes and about but so I was in Jamaica for spring break. We went on a cruise with my parents. And so we're at this burger place and I'm like, at a burger and you know, some fries, like can I get some ranch please? And they're like, kind of they're confused. I kind of look into like, we also have 1000 Island, poppy seed as well as ranch and like no, like, I don't want to sell it. I'm gonna dip my fries in this but like you don't know what I mean. It's okay. i You're gonna feed me some hidden valley. I'm just It's okay. You guys don't do that here. I'm just gonna cry and want my ranch, I

Unknown Speaker 6:18
guess. So. an underrated find that I had recently, I was working and my coworker was like, Hey, have you ever had Jack in the Box tacos with buttermilk? And I was like, what does that mean? What is buttermilk? And I didn't realize what he meant was ranch because on the on the jack in the box logo for their ranch. It says buttermilk ranch. So I said Go get me your tacos and buttermilk and we're eating that for lunch. So he comes back into tacos. And he brings out the ranch packets. And I was like, hold on. I was like we're having tacos and ranch. I was like That is so weird. But I had to find out. So I dip this taco and ranch, take a bite and I was like, Oh, this is magical. So tacos and ranch. Probably only Jack in the Box tacos with ranch. But it was really good. There's

Unknown Speaker 7:03
like Chili's, they have a ranch case a chicken ranch case a deer I feel like that's like and you can like dip it around. You'd like just like That sounds delicious.

Unknown Speaker 7:12
It was really good. It would change my life. It made a whole new meaning of those Jack in the Box tacos.

Unknown Speaker 7:17
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of ranch. I mean, something like what happened to you kind of happened to me like when I was in middle school. I think some girl got her ranch all over my shirt and it smelled on me the rest of the day. And I was traumatized. Never really liked it anyway, and I can't really eat it. But yeah, I'm just more plain when it comes to pizza. Like I'll get some toppings on it. I feel like this is also unpopular, but I like olives on my pizza

Unknown Speaker 7:44
and mushrooms. Yeah, see, I

Unknown Speaker 7:46
don't like all those or mushrooms. So like for me I'm like, but I don't I don't knock that people enjoy that because if you like the taste of

Unknown Speaker 7:53
it, you're gonna have green

Unknown Speaker 7:54
peppers. Yeah, okay, green peppers on pizza too is pretty good

Unknown Speaker 7:57
peppers. Okay, so peppers, some onions you do like a barbecue chicken type of pizza. You gotta have some onions and stuff on one thing

Unknown Speaker 8:03
my dad always like because I really liked like a chicken artichoke pizza. He's like chicken doesn't belong on pizza. Like that's not whenever I don't want that on there and like they have like the taco pizzas and stuff from Papa Murphy's now and he's like, it's just wrong.

Unknown Speaker 8:15
Oh, yeah. I like I like the creativity that they get with the pizzas like I've had like, a hamburger pizza and it's ground beef and what like whatever else, but the more variety is the better. But my favorite pizza topping right now is ricotta cheese, like the like the dollars of ricotta cheese.

Unknown Speaker 8:31
You know, was that that's really good as Grimaldi's. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker 8:35
Would you guys ever have a hot Cheeto pizza? A bite of one I don't like not like a whole pizza. I'm not gonna be like, would you but like, would you have like a bite of one?

Unknown Speaker 8:42
I'm always down to try something new. So it's just got hot Cheetos on the pizza.

Unknown Speaker 8:45
Yeah, like, I think that's like the main whatever. Like I probably got an Alfredo cross or something. Like, I mean, why not shaking her head? Why wouldn't you?

Unknown Speaker 8:53
I would not. Okay. Also, textures are kind of like a weird thing for me too. So if I'm tasting a chip on top of a pizza, I'd be like, Okay, what is in like, what am I eating?

Unknown Speaker 9:03
Would you have it?

Unknown Speaker 9:04
Depends. I'm not so sure it just in terms of the healthy stuff. I don't think it's healthy. But oh, maybe take a bite to try. Yeah, but I'm still 5050 It depends on my mood.

Unknown Speaker 9:17
I think if you're having pizza you're going to know when you're not having a

Unknown Speaker 9:20
healthy Yeah, like

Unknown Speaker 9:21
true,

Unknown Speaker 9:22
but I mean, when I would eat pizza I'm going to have to have vegetables on it too but sometimes I like it with cheese and I can't want you to meet that much except maybe with not really with chicken not really with pork I don't you know me I don't eat pork but why not? You know, I'm just I'm very different with my choices of pizza.

Unknown Speaker 9:40
i There's a place in Utah where they have honey for like once you finish like you know the pizza part of your pizza. Then you can dip your crust and honey is it that onion place it's called the pie pizzeria. Okay. A whole bunch of different locations like all around and like was get the mountain of me and I love it.

Unknown Speaker 9:59
That's really interesting because like, obviously not healthy, but I've definitely like taken some butter on like if I have like a good crust on a pizza, taking some butter and lather that bad boy up. And obviously, you know, you gotta eat some butter, but that's interesting. I would definitely get some

Unknown Speaker 10:15
love stuffed crust. I think that's why like dipping in Marinette. Like I that's why I think I like it so much is because it's just love bread and it's just another way to

Unknown Speaker 10:23
you just spice it up some bread. Yeah, I'm with it. I'm with it.

Unknown Speaker 10:26
Is it true? Because you're like half Hispanic, because I know some people they put butter on when they make fresh tamales or not tamale. Sorry, I'm tortillas.

Unknown Speaker 10:35
Oh, yeah, I've definitely had my fair share of just butter tortillas. I've like never just a quick snack, like a quick snack. Like we would get a tortilla. Tortilla. Yeah, you warm it up.

Unknown Speaker 10:46
So then you just put crispy. I have so many questions. Well, you

Unknown Speaker 10:50
just like, like, I would just put it on my like my stove burner right? Just turn the burner on and just cook the tortilla like that. And then once it was, you got all of it warm. Just lather out and some butter and eat it.

Unknown Speaker 11:01
Is it like flour or corn or flour tortilla? Okay. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 11:04
I corn tortilla when it worked out the same way.

Unknown Speaker 11:07
Yeah. Do you like the flavor? Would it be

Unknown Speaker 11:09
there? Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 11:10
that's yeah,

Unknown Speaker 11:11
I've done that before. And like, I've done peanut butter on a tortilla to little peanut butter and jelly.

Unknown Speaker 11:18
I haven't seen I haven't I haven't done that personally, but I wouldn't be opposed to it because it's just like bread. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 11:25
yeah. I have tried the peanut. I don't know. There's something about the tortilla? No, that's like this doesn't taste like normal bread. Like it's not right. I can't do it. I want to kind of you won't

Unknown Speaker 11:35
you won't be disappointed because it's just butter and like, the wheat tastes you know, so you'll be fine.

Unknown Speaker 11:40
When you guys were little kids. Did you eat the crusts on your sandwiches? Yes. Why? Well tell me

Unknown Speaker 11:46
why not. So I don't I'm not too sure why

Unknown Speaker 11:50
it was her. I don't know why either. It just tasted

Unknown Speaker 11:53
different. And plus, when we spread like the peanut butter and the jelly on there, it never really touched the edge. But I didn't make my own sandwiches when I was younger. So I had no choice in that. But I just picked it off. I don't know it tasted I was like, I don't want this.

Unknown Speaker 12:08
See. So my mom would make us peanut butter jellies or like ham and cheese is whatever if when we started taking our lunches, it just like, I don't know, like it was just a different mentality. Like it was more like don't waste any of it. So just eat the sandwich. You don't get to pick It's bread. It's got crust, just eat the dang sandwich. So we would just eat it.

Unknown Speaker 12:24
My mom would like you like hoagie rolls or whatever. Later, she'd be like, this is like all crust. Why are you eating this? Like she she tried to get me with like logic. I remember one time I was or my parents even tell this story. They've had my dad had packed me a sandwich, which he usually didn't do. And they didn't cut it in half. And so like I didn't need it. Like I wasn't eating this whole sandwich wasn't cut in half. So I go home. And I was like, why didn't you meet your salary? I'm like, it wasn't cut in half. I'm trying to teach data lesson diva. And he's, she's like, so you're not going to eat. Because the sandwich isn't cut up to teach your data lesson she like makes sense. Fair. Do

Unknown Speaker 12:59
you know growing up, I just wasn't into the crafts myself. So my mom, my mom would just cut it off. And then as I got older, I kind of just got over it because I didn't want to waste food. So I just had to eat the crust.

Unknown Speaker 13:10
I'm the same way I've grown to just accept it more. Especially when I had to start paying for my own food too. I was like, You know what, this is worth all the 10 cents that this little piece of crust is worth.

Unknown Speaker 13:22
You know, I think actually did it for me was that sometimes breakfast in the morning would be like a couple pieces of toast. And because we're kids and whatever, my mom would sprinkle cinnamon sugar on them with butter. So it would stay I think

Unknown Speaker 13:33
we've talked about that. I was telling someone about that the other day like so it's basically like half baked french toast or whatever. Like I never thought of it like that. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker 13:41
And because if you're toasting, it's not you're not going to cut the crust off, right? Yeah. So because we liked eating that it didn't matter. I just ate the crust. I ate the whole piece of bread. So I think that just kind of we got over the crust. It's more receptacle for the sugar. Right? So it's like if you want to enjoy that you have to enjoy crust that all the time. Yeah, might as well just accept it. It's true. But I would say you know, there's definitely been moments where like, I've ate a sandwich and gotten to like the last bite and all that's left is like a tiny piece and then some cross something like I'm done.

Unknown Speaker 14:10
Have you guys ever had it was like your sandwich where you're like eating it and then like you must be pinching it off too hard. You take a bite and then all subs up the other side. That's

Unknown Speaker 14:18
the worst.

Unknown Speaker 14:19
Yeah. I will say though, that there are different kinds of crust. Like if you're eating like a bread roll or something. Pretty much the whole thing is crust, but it just tastes different. It's better to me like I could eat a whole bread crust is

Unknown Speaker 14:33
I won't Oh yeah, I don't mind that we're on the bottom.

Unknown Speaker 14:37
I don't mind it.

Unknown Speaker 14:38
Everyone's gotten really into sourdough lately. I love saying bottom of it like sometimes we get burnt and it's just like I will have everything except this small piece where it's a little like it just it's not my thing but I do eat like the crust first and then I have to even said like, I don't know if everyone else just I have to eat the outside first.

Unknown Speaker 14:56
I think cuz I like the crust the most on that kind of bread. atoms, Oh, you do the inside more, and then I'll eat the outside.

Unknown Speaker 15:04
That's interesting. That's interesting. I would say I go that route. Like if I'm the first one like if my mom has like a fresh like sourdough loaf, and I'm the first one to it, obviously, I'm going to cut from the end. I'll eat the end piece. But I want those pieces in the middle for sure.

Unknown Speaker 15:16
What do you guys call the end piece? Cuz that's how I usually just

Unknown Speaker 15:19
say like the butter of the bread. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 15:21
that's, I think that's what we call the heel. There you go. That's the I know, that's like the actual term for is it not?

Unknown Speaker 15:27
I don't know. I guess we can like look up. What did you do? Ashley?

Unknown Speaker 15:30
I don't have a name. Don't just the end of

Unknown Speaker 15:33
the bread. Yeah, easier used, it would give it to the dog. Outside, he didn't want it either.

Unknown Speaker 15:40
depend if I could get if I could get to the bread and have two pieces and have to use the heel then I toss it. But sometimes you're in dire straits, and you need that second piece of bread. So you're using it so it would just depend if I got lucky or not for us, for our family. We somebody usually use that last piece.

Unknown Speaker 15:57
If I'm making toast then I don't really care. I don't know why but just making it toast makes it taste better to me. Especially if I add like because usually when I make toast I put like hummus and then you want like this Khloe, bell peppers on it. And then I'll eat that but if it's like the butt

Unknown Speaker 16:14
spread on a piece of bread, it's really never thought about that. That sounds so good.

Unknown Speaker 16:17
So you can even season it

Unknown Speaker 16:19
read it says that the most popular names are the NPS, the heel the butt or the crust.

Unknown Speaker 16:24
I feel like the heel was like the term I think that's the

Unknown Speaker 16:27
I think it's cute though to call the but yeah,

Unknown Speaker 16:29
that's always what I've said I've never heard he'll reader know.

Unknown Speaker 16:33
Have you guys seen like the different linguist things that different populations say like if you're from the south, like you'll say Coke, but Coke is more than just a coke cultic oh, I want a coke. What kind of coke Do you want? I want a sprite? And or like people say pop or soda like based on where geographically they

Unknown Speaker 16:51
answered. Yeah, like for me if you say Coke, that means you want coke. Yeah, but if you say you want soda, then I go well, what kind do you want? Yeah, you want I mean,

Unknown Speaker 17:00
are the engineers like popper? Then even the people are like, what do you call um, there's a thing that's called funeral potatoes but something called Mormon potatoes or simple calm cheesy potato. Oh, okay. Cornflakes on top. Now you lost me there like lose called

Unknown Speaker 17:15
cheesy potatoes. But I didn't know they had cornflakes on top. Yeah. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker 17:20
See, I think of see, like, I think when people say cheesy potatoes, but I think because of what my dad made was like the scalloped potatoes. That's what I think of I don't know what Mormon potatoes are, or what funeral potatoes.

Unknown Speaker 17:31
They're like, they're the same thing. So like, we make them and I've like seen them on TV. But they have like hashbrowns they have like cream of chicken soup, sour cream. They have and you're just like all putting this it's so it's so good. It's so good. It's so unhealthy. But it is delicious. And you have like the cornflakes on top. So it's like nice and crunchy. So like it's like almost bread crumbs on top. Yeah, like onions in it. And you know, has like, I don't know, I love onions. It's just so good.

Unknown Speaker 18:00
I'm looking at one of these recipes. I'm making some of these these sound delicious.

Unknown Speaker 18:03
casserole like right, you know, yeah, it's so good. But it just depends on like, where you're from, you see, like different things. That's interesting. Yeah. Trying to think some other ones like our food dish related.

Unknown Speaker 18:12
I know. So I know. Like when I got to high school, like lunches were different, right? So you'd like there was more options. I remember there was always pizza options every day. Then there was the actual cafeteria, which I never actually went to. Then there was like the separate stands where they had like these teriyaki bowls or like chicken sandwiches. And then like every Friday we would have Chick fil A calm so like we had different choices when I got to high school that at that point, like my mom would give me 20 bucks for the weekend say make it make it last and I would like to switch up what I ate every day and there was actually like good food that made it worth it was at school sometimes like an elementary school. Sometimes you chop me like it's the mystery meat day I'm out of here

Unknown Speaker 18:48
well and they'd have like frozen meat in a plastic bag that you open and they toss in the microwave. It's like I don't really want to eat this. I do remember in middle school though they did have Papa John's pizza, which was pretty good.

Unknown Speaker 18:59
I remember in like middle school, they had like a thing you could buy pizza and like fire and water and cookie or whatever. And then in high school like they had just like vending machines and you know food trucks every once in a while but like that was like your own thing.

Unknown Speaker 19:12
Yeah. Once we got to when I got to high school, ours had three pizza lines. There was Papa John's pizza and Domino's and you could that was there every day. But then there was other stuff on like, certain days, but I would do like pizza one day a week. I'd do like a teriyaki bowl probably twice a week. I do like a chicken sandwich one day, and then some days I would have my mom buy like these like pre made sandwiches from stater brothers, and those were good.

Unknown Speaker 19:35
Did you ever get lucky with that kind of stuff coming to your school? Ashley?

Unknown Speaker 19:39
Well, I would say debt. Elementary was kind of dull, but I mean, there's food you know, good to have food kids will eat anything. Most kids unless the other kids say hey, that's ministry meat or that's not good for you or that's something that you probably don't want to eat because I found out what it really is that kind of thing. But in middle school, we had vending machines we had like Papa John's And then sometimes we had spicy chicken sandwiches that we would get to. They try to make a variety. They try to make things better. I don't know about fully healthy, but they're trying to make it like kids can actually eat this stuff. And then it's not going to be a waste. And in high school is the same thing too. But then some organizations here raise money, so they will have Firehouse Subs come in, or they would just sell the sandwiches, and it'll go to their organization. Like, for instance, my high school choir, they had Firehouse Subs, and then they basically just sold the sandwiches. If people want to get it, then they get it and then the money just goes back to them. So that kind of thing. But yeah, I think we had vending machines there too. But what wasn't that bad? symptomless Middle School?

Unknown Speaker 20:43
Yeah, I really just brought my own lunch to school. 90% of the time. Agreed. Yeah, because I just didn't want to risk it. And I wasn't I never had like, I don't have money to spend on like hot lunches. So it's like, let me just make what I know. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker 21:00
The who is better than that? Definitely. You don't that's for sure. Exactly. I just remember like my favorite one. Out of all the hot lunch options on every Sunday night. Sometimes they would have these like, I know their microwave burritos. That's what they are. But they were so good. I liked

Unknown Speaker 21:15
the uncrustables and I we used to warm up in the microwave. So then like it'd be hot and when you bite into them they'd explode to the jelly would just molten lava down your hand.

Unknown Speaker 21:24
But those frozen burritos were so good. I remember my dad started buying them for us like for like after sports snacks because we would we'd have school or lunch was like at like 11 And then I'd have practice to like four. So I'd come home and it's not really dinnertime. But I was starving. So he had like selections. Yeah, and the frozen burritos were in the rotation constantly. They were like so good. Like, even out of school had them. Have you ever had an uncomfortable frozen though?

Unknown Speaker 21:50
I have not. No change your life? I don't think I have.

Unknown Speaker 21:53
It's like a peanut butter and jelly Ice Cream Sandwich.

Unknown Speaker 21:56
Have any of you tried the one? Didn't they make one that had like sausage in it? It wasn't a peanut butter and jelly one it had

Unknown Speaker 22:03
I have seen the uncrustables like that are like a ham and cheese sandwich. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 22:06
something like that. So it's a hot pocket. Well, it's got the requestable name.

Unknown Speaker 22:11
So it's a cold ham and cheese sandwich but uncrustables time Yeah, that sounds so off putting the ideas so there though, I think I think I like ham and cheese sandwiches with like actual bread though. Like uncrustables like that soft bread that? I don't know. That sounds off putting

Unknown Speaker 22:26
I think they're just trying to reinvent the wheel a little bit. Yeah, it's a Hallmark

Unknown Speaker 22:30
and then it's like a novelty to like, you're just you're gonna buy that so that way you can try but oh yeah, I tried the new whatever thing the new the Hot Pocket want to be? Yeah, the Hot Pocket want to be. But I'm currently on the hunt for the best Cuban sandwich. Um, when I was on a crew like on a cruise, they had like these Cuban sandwiches and they always had and I became obsessed. And I think that's where I might go after this event is try and find like, because I guess I Googled you know, best Cuban sandwiches near me and like, they're all up and down like Tropicana and but they have like this bread is like bite. It's like crunchy. And then you have these pickles and like good ham. And like, I think they've had turkey. It's just Oh my gosh. So I am trying to find one in Vegas. I always like to have like little hunts for like the best thing are like the best. This is the best place to find a hot dog. So hopefully I can find the best place for a Cuban sandwich.

That That reminds me of when I used to live in California. And my mom teaches at a Catholic school out there. But most of the kids that go there are Vietnamese kids. And she teaches in Westminster which is by it's called Little Saigon, which is basically like, it's a Vietnamese, like marketplace, basically. And they had these Vietnamese sandwiches, I couldn't tell you the name of them. And they were they were so good. So good. But like the place was authentically Vietnamese. Nobody spoke English in there. So I'd roll up my mind be like go pick up sandwiches and I'd roll up. I'd have to ask somebody to order for me. And like there's no lines. You just kind of show him your money and they'll like pick on you like you're up and they but they were so good. And like, whenever we're like let's get Vietnamese sandwiches. We only go there because it's like real Vietnamese sandwiches.

You guys ever wonder? I think there's a lot of times where it's like this is the only place I've ever tried something like this is just the best. And I always wonder you know if it's is it just the best because it's the only place I've ever had it at or is it really the best you know what I mean? And then you're scared to try it anywhere else?

Unknown Speaker 24:26
Yeah, when once you find your spot like you don't want to switch it up because what if it's not as good you just wasted a meal but you don't know if it's actually better?

Unknown Speaker 24:34
Yeah, or you're just so used to one you're like this one. If it's not like this one it's wrong.

Unknown Speaker 24:40
And I think also grading them might be a little subjective. Yeah, like your ratings to action. Exactly. Yeah. And I mean everybody has different tastes like if I bring up one restaurant to you be like Well, I tried it but it's not that good but I like Well, that's my favorite.

Unknown Speaker 24:56
Yeah, she's like it wasn't really not that good to order weird thing was enough. De you know what I mean? So I always like I always nervous, like recommending people like places because I'm always like, what if they go? Especially like, friends? They're coming into Vegas? Like, what if they go to this place? You know, they're only in Vegas, you only get so many meals for so long. They go there and they hate. It's like, I feel so bad.

Unknown Speaker 25:16
So the way I get around that is if I recommend a place, I always tell them what I ordered from there. Like, if I order the same thing. Yeah, I tell them, This is what I order. And it's the only thing I order so I can get such a difference. Don't come back to me said, Oh, that this place isn't good. Because if you would have got what I got, I know you would have gotten something good. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 25:34
that's me. That's a good way to get around that good loophole.

Unknown Speaker 25:39
You have your staple. And then it's like, whatever you do is above me, if you change it, not my issue.

Unknown Speaker 25:45
Yeah. And I think we're going to talk about on the next episode, too, because I'm going to be talking about my upbringing about food. And I think what I'm going to be talking about as a good example of what what I recommend, but it may not be what you liked, though, at the end. So any final thoughts?

Unknown Speaker 26:03
I think that's, that's where we could kind of wrap it up for this one on our teeth. Yeah, but Apple teeth and thank you for listening and joining us today for conversation
