LuAnn Buechler: Connection, community, collaboration, creativity, and commitment. And I think today is gonna be all about that creativity conversation, for sure, with my new friend, Jamar Jones.

LuAnn Buechler: Jamar is the visionary force behind Boreva Media. Did I say that right?

Jamar Jones: Yep.

LuAnn Buechler: Transforming businesses through the influential power of branding and business advisory. He has worked with esteemed clients such as Marcus.

LuAnn Buechler: Limonis?

LuAnn Buechler: VaynerX, Red Bull, and many others. Jamar has secured over a half a million in sponsorships for events he has produced, and through his podcast.

LuAnn Buechler: He is known for creating impactful experiences, and my friends, that, what people want today is experiences for entrepreneurs in arenas, festival grounds, and retreats around the world.

LuAnn Buechler: As an international keynote speaker himself.

LuAnn Buechler: He's a seasoned entrepreneur, author, and podcast host. Jamar shares profound insights from his book, Change Your Circle, Change Your Life.

LuAnn Buechler: Want to hear more about that today, too. His motivational talks delivered to large audience at major venues, renowned companies like BMW and PPA, with a focus on personal branding and small business growth.

LuAnn Buechler: Welcome, Jamar! There's a little bit more here, but.

Jamar Jones: It's all good.

LuAnn Buechler: Got it!

LuAnn Buechler: You are a well-known gay!

Jamar Jones: It's all good,

Jamar Jones: Thank you for having me on here. I appreciate it, so much. Happy to get into some good conversation.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah, thank you for blessing us and sharing your knowledge with us and your experiences, because it is, as I said today, about experiences.

LuAnn Buechler: People want an experience, not just another meeting, not just another conference, not even just another show, would you agree?

Jamar Jones: Yeah, 100%. Yeah, we're in a day and time where, you know, with AI and…

Jamar Jones: everything, and people, you know, in front of laptops, computers, that people want to connect. Even in the time of Zoom, we're doing this right now virtually, right? And I think people want to connect and experience something a little bit different, a little bit deeper.

Jamar Jones: And, that's what we believe in, that's gonna be the future. That's why we're diving all in on, on experiences.

LuAnn Buechler: Right, and in-person experience is what we're talking about, folks. Yep. And there's, you know, our connection, C-word, right? He's talking about people want to connect, and I'm glad you brought up AI, because what I am seeing

LuAnn Buechler: is that because of AI, people want personal experiences even more.

LuAnn Buechler: Right? They're going back to those in-person events, they're gonna go to those activities, festivals, retreats, what have you, because they want to meet real people!

Jamar Jones: Right.

LuAnn Buechler: Make sure they're not just talking to bots all day long!

Jamar Jones: Yup.

LuAnn Buechler: I just came back from a conference.

LuAnn Buechler: And, 500 women, it was amazing.

Jamar Jones: Oh, nice!

LuAnn Buechler: Met a whole bunch of new people, all amazing people.

Jamar Jones: Where's that at?

LuAnn Buechler: That was eWomen Network in Dallas, Texas.

Jamar Jones: Did you see my good friend Rhonda Nordyke?

LuAnn Buechler: I did see your good friend.

Jamar Jones: Yes.

LuAnn Buechler: Or night!

Jamar Jones: Yes!

LuAnn Buechler: He was even on stage! She got to be on the main stage and get her presentation filmed.

Jamar Jones: Yes, she is incredible. So we worked with her for about 2 years, and she's… she's such a joy, to be around, and she's really built an amazing business, so…

LuAnn Buechler: as.

Jamar Jones: That is awesome.

LuAnn Buechler: She did that with the help of our mentor, hers and mine, Sandra Yancey.

Jamar Jones: Who's the phone.

LuAnn Buechler: founder of eWomen Network, and I'm sure that she got some help from you, too, as well, Rhonda, which reminds me of the story of how we got connected, because now I remember the whole thread. So I went to Rhonda Nordic's eWomen Summit in Milwaukee.

LuAnn Buechler: There was a vendor there, we didn't have a summit in Minnesota, and so I was feeling a lost, opportunity, and so I went to Milwaukee to be at Rhonda's event instead, which is where I met Susie Moon. Yeah.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: Susie Moon had what she calls a speaker roundup. Susie supports speakers on getting on stages.

LuAnn Buechler: And on this speaker roundup was Jamar Jones' picture, but he was too busy, and so here's Susie introducing Jamar and telling us fabulous things about Jamar and the connector that I am. I'm going, I need to meet Jamar Jones!

Jamar Jones: Nope.

LuAnn Buechler: And so, thanks to Susie, I reached out, we've had a few conversations, and here we are today, sharing with our… my audience. So, thanks again, Jamar, but I love that. This is the importance of connections, and all too often, I find, I don't know about you, but that people forget.

Jamar Jones: Oh.

LuAnn Buechler: People forget where it began.

LuAnn Buechler: And so I love to tell those stories and draw it back to help myself remember my own connections that got me where I am today. One of my valued mentors, Dr. Ivan Meisner, the founder of BNI,

LuAnn Buechler: He talks about his butterfly effect.

LuAnn Buechler: of what one to the next connection got him where he is today, and so I've written my own butterfly effect story. That's a story for another day.

Jamar Jones: That's up.

LuAnn Buechler: But people, I want you to pay attention to what that is. And it is like a ripple in a pond, right? Just one little ripple goes to the next, and the next, and the next, and you never know what big wave that could create for you.

Jamar Jones: Yeah, it's… it's, it's the key, and that's… that's why I wrote a book called Change Your Circle, Change Your Life.

Jamar Jones: you know…

Jamar Jones: all of our opportunities are literally right in front of us, and they're all through people. If you really think about your entire life of wherever you're at today, all of your opportunities came through people. So even if you apply for a job, right,

Jamar Jones: that came through a person giving you an opportunity, and you just put your name in the hat. Now, a lot of times, how we get jobs today is through referrals. Hey, you should go and meet Jamar. I think he would be perfect for this. Everything is through people and connection, and through business, the same thing applies, and so…

Jamar Jones: when you talk about going backwards and just thinking about who you're connected to, that's, like, one of the first steps. A lot of us are just moving forward. Who are all the new people we can meet? But we don't think about who are the people that are there in our corners, right? Who are the people that gave us an opportunity

Jamar Jones: they might have some more to give, so I do challenge everybody to

Jamar Jones: also go in your current circle, right? And see what untapped opportunity there is, that you can maximize, and also that will go and meet more new people. So it is crucial to success, to build…

Jamar Jones: You know, meaningful relationships.

LuAnn Buechler: But, and I love that, right? It's about the depth, and that's another one I've been taught through the B&I system. It's about the depth of the relationship, not just brand new ones all the time, and I was…

LuAnn Buechler: reminding myself of that, even at the conference, because I'm like, yes, now I'm… I actually had two conferences back-to-back.

LuAnn Buechler: In two weeks in a row, that's a lot of people, and I love meeting people, but I really make sure that I key in on the most important people to follow up with and connect with and go deeper into the conversation. And even then.

LuAnn Buechler: just this morning, I really want my own retreat center, Jamar, and an opportunity was presented to me this morning, bigger than my dreams imagined.

LuAnn Buechler: And I started reaching out to individuals in my network and saying.

LuAnn Buechler: Hey, I need investors if I'm gonna do this one.

LuAnn Buechler: Who do you know?

LuAnn Buechler: circled right back to a woman that was at that very conference with me, and I didn't know that she helps people buy retreat centers.

Jamar Jones: Oh my god!

LuAnn Buechler: Because I told it to someone else, and they said, well, do you know Holly? And I'm like, yeah, I know Holly, and they're like, Holly helps people with that. I'm like, oh my god.

Jamar Jones: So, you know what's so funny about that is the other principle of when you're trying to build connections and relationships is if you don't ask, you don't get.

LuAnn Buechler: Exactly.

Jamar Jones: A lot of people are going around, meeting people, doing all the networking things, right, that they need to do, but they're not getting the same results, and it's because they're not asking. They're afraid to ask.

Jamar Jones: And I know it's challenging, you know, for a lot of people that it's afraid to ask somebody for something, but it's also about how you ask. And how you ask was totally different than, hey, you're not going to people, hey, you got any money?

Jamar Jones: I need to buy something. I want to buy something because it just would help only me, and that's it. You didn't say that, right? You casted out a vision, and you said, hey, this is what I'm building.

Jamar Jones: who do you know? Who do you know? Right? It's a total different way of framing the ask, and through the universe, it's almost like they just give you what you ask for, which is kind of crazy. That's a whole other philosophical thing that we can get into, but

Jamar Jones: Yeah, it's about how you ask. So, I also challenge people to do that. Have an ask, and cast a vision.

LuAnn Buechler: Yes, and so I've been casting the vision, oh, I think, pretty strongly for a year in the circles that I operate in.

LuAnn Buechler: And, so that when I came to this one, They know the vision!

Jamar Jones: Right. And said…

LuAnn Buechler: Who do you know who would invest in a spiritual retreat center?

LuAnn Buechler: Because here's the opportunity. So, super cool. Change your circle, change your life.

LuAnn Buechler: show. Principles from that book. I'm sensing a deep,

LuAnn Buechler: Be cautious of your circle as well, would that be true?

Jamar Jones: Yes.

Jamar Jones: Very true.

Jamar Jones: Very true.

Jamar Jones: You know, it's, it's… and to be cautious, really the first step is to really even recognize,

Jamar Jones: who's in your circle? First, you have to unlock your self-awareness. So that is something I'm a really big believer in. A lot of us are just going through life.

Jamar Jones: And…

Jamar Jones: we're not really aware of what's going on and how it's happening. We just feel like these things are happening just because, like, we're not in control of certain things.

LuAnn Buechler: Made to us.

Jamar Jones: Yes.

LuAnn Buechler: Instead of for us.

Jamar Jones: Yes. And, you know, I…

Jamar Jones: I know to unlock that self-awareness, kind of boils down into ingredients that I have, that I talk about in the book, but it's, self-love.

Jamar Jones: perspective.

Jamar Jones: confidence, right? And getting through fear. And if you can master those, ingredients, you're able to unlock your self-awareness to really think outside of yourself, right?

Jamar Jones: To understand what's around you, because you have to be able to see those things to know how to deal with those things, right? And so, like, if people are not serving you in your circle.

Jamar Jones: You won't even know how to deal with that, because you're not self-aware enough to know, like, oh.

Jamar Jones: Tommy's pretty toxic.

Jamar Jones: And I didn't… I was just living in it, right? I was just living in it, and I didn't even know that Tommy was not good for me. Or, hey, I got a business colleague of mine, and they're always just a downer, right?

Jamar Jones: hey, woe is me, nothing's happening, and I'm feeding off of that energy all day, every day, because Jimmy always comes around every time we go somewhere.

Jamar Jones: And so these are these limiting beliefs, and we have to acknowledge that first for ourselves to be able to create change.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah, absolutely.

LuAnn Buechler: Which brings up another, powerful message, that our mentor Sandra talks about, is courage comes first.

Jamar Jones: Mmm.

LuAnn Buechler: You don't have courage because of confidence, you build confidence because you're courageous, right? And so you gotta have courage, and the courage is to ask.

LuAnn Buechler: Ask for help, ask for what you need. And I know women especially, you know, are afraid to ask, like, it makes us weaker.

LuAnn Buechler: Heck, no, it makes us stronger!

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: Have the courage to ask for what you need, to build collaborations, to build strong connections, and the magic will happen.

Jamar Jones: Oh, yeah.

Jamar Jones: 100%. Gotta ask for help. Actually, that's a good… We've done a lot of work with David Meltzer, and he's just a serial entrepreneur, global speaker, millions of followers, and he, that's what his main, like.

Jamar Jones: tagline is, is just ask for help. Because you don't know it all, and you gotta be willing to ask for help, so that way you can get to the next stage, or the next position, or wherever you're going next. You have to get help, once again, through people.

Jamar Jones: to be able to get to where you're trying to go. And that's also what builds, courage as well, is asking for that help. Another thing is also believing in yourself.

Jamar Jones: I think that's also where the courage also… I think it's a two-pronged thing. It's asking for help, but also believing in yourself enough that you can be able to push through, and the only way that you're gonna believe, is by going deeper.

Jamar Jones: Inside, like, basically in reverse, inside yourself, to find out the reason why.

Jamar Jones: Why is it so important, that you want to do those things so you can break through and have that courage, and…

Jamar Jones: It's just so important, I mean, but you need both. You can't really… because I see a lot of people that have ego, and…

Jamar Jones: They believe, right? They believe in themselves. Lord have mercy.

LuAnn Buechler: Remember, 8?

Jamar Jones: They haven't asked for no help!

LuAnn Buechler: No, we're not gonna talk about those people. Anyway…

LuAnn Buechler: But I think I really love that, going deeper in self-awareness and knowing yourself, which is the piece of my work that,

LuAnn Buechler: aligns with the passion test, and helping people to identify their top 5 passions in their personal life and in their business life, and in business, it aligns with your core values, and these…

LuAnn Buechler: Are what people want to hear about you.

LuAnn Buechler: what are your core values? Because we align with each other as people to people when we align on the same values, like-minded concepts, right?

LuAnn Buechler: And again, in Change Your Circle, Change Your Life, I bet you talk about that, right?

Jamar Jones: Yeah, you gotta have core values.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah.

Jamar Jones: 100%, I mean… If you don't…

Jamar Jones: Like, who's gonna follow you? Who's gonna believe you? Who's gonna, you know, be in your corner? Because you have to have core values first, so there needs to be some boundaries, there needs to be, hey, this is what I stand for, this is what I'm going for,

Jamar Jones: that has to be in place first, and then, second of all, you have to build on alignment of core values, and I have a quick, very quick story, because it's a long story, but it's quick.

Jamar Jones: at least for this pod… at least for this podcast, is that at one point, I had a business owner,

Jamar Jones: A business partnership, where there was another person that was part of the business, and

Jamar Jones: you know, we aligned in the beginning because we were both bringing each other business back and forth, and then we said, man, why don't we just do this together?

Jamar Jones: And we thought it was a good idea, hey, we're both making money, this is good, right? And so we kind of just went ahead and got into business together.

Jamar Jones: But come to find out, fast forward about a year later, all of a sudden, these things started to kind of…

Jamar Jones: falling apart. Actually, it happened sooner than that, it was, like, 6 months in. Started falling apart, and all this stuff back and forth, and we… I uncovered that we did not meet

Jamar Jones: And we were not aligned on the core values, of…

Jamar Jones: what we wanted in the business, and even how we wanted to do business. And so, since our morals and values were not aligned, we could not get past anything else.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah.

Jamar Jones: So, it just goes to show you, we're no longer business partners at this point, but this goes to show you that that's how deep it is. You can't do other things unless the core values are in alignment. So true.

LuAnn Buechler: means, like you said, I want to repeat this for people, you have to

LuAnn Buechler: to know yourself. You have to know your own core values, because it's easy for that shiny object that someone else looks like they have. Oh, I'm gonna go jump on their train and become their partner, but if they're not aligned, it's not gonna work.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: Right? It's just not gonna work. And so…

LuAnn Buechler: putting core values in writing in a partnership early on to lay the foundation is one of the things that I advocate for. Anybody tells me they're getting into partnership with somebody, I'm like.

LuAnn Buechler: Have you done your core values together? Because until you're sure of that…

LuAnn Buechler: And I'm gonna add a story.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: Two women, two sisters, started a restaurant together, did not establish core values.

LuAnn Buechler: It lasted a year, because they were each directing the employees differently.

Jamar Jones: Mmm.

LuAnn Buechler: They weren't aligned, and they separated to maintain their relationship as sisters.

Jamar Jones: It's about the same time frame for me, too. It seems to be that year… that year mark where it, everything gets tested.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah.

Jamar Jones: Crazy. And by the way, we just dropped some knowledge on this podcast that will save you, at least minimum, a year of your life.

LuAnn Buechler: There you go!

Jamar Jones: If you're thinking about… if you're thinking about a partnership, or if you are currently in one and you have not defined this, I would do it literally today. I would schedule a time for you to get synced up, because this will save you a lot of money and a lot of time.

LuAnn Buechler: And I'm gonna add to that, because that's what I help people do, is a third party is very valuable. Yeah. Because I have also seen two people believe they're hearing the same thing from each other.

Jamar Jones: Mmm.

LuAnn Buechler: And it did not really mean the same thing in their heart.

LuAnn Buechler: And so, it's really valuable to have a third party be a part of that, whether, you know, it's my coaching program or someone else's, get someone else involved to sort of mediate that conversation, and it's much more valuable to you, yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: So you're really a branding and business growth advisor by branding, right? And here again, I believe the core values are a part of your branding.

Jamar Jones: Yes. Right.

Jamar Jones: 100%.

LuAnn Buechler: So many people try and go out there and create some story and some visual brand that is a disconnect from the words coming out of their mouth.

Jamar Jones: How often have we seen that?

LuAnn Buechler: That was a little blunt, wasn't it? But that's… It's good, the people need.

Jamar Jones: Dear it.

Jamar Jones: Yes!

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah, so powerful when those things aligned and people can see it.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: And they can sense it, and energetically, they can feel it.

Jamar Jones: You know.

LuAnn Buechler: Whether you're… Your own values, right?

Jamar Jones: Yeah, it's… it's so apparent… it's like…

Jamar Jones: Every… and the thing is, people don't realize is that they're… they think they're doing the right thing.

Jamar Jones: But…

Jamar Jones: people can sense it, and they can smell it a mile away. And then you wonder, because it's in the results, and that's what I always tell people. It's in the results. So, have you ever seen a brand that just is pumping out

Jamar Jones: you know, certain messaging, or even imagery, how they're talking about certain things, and it's just not landing. And…

Jamar Jones: then all of a sudden, you find out that that brand also is suffering from getting clients, customers, people are leaving the organization, like, things are kind of falling apart because they're trying to put out a facade, right? It's not… and that's why, a lot of times, I…

Jamar Jones: always… and I know it's the boring stuff. I know, I know people. It is the boring stuff.

Jamar Jones: Because the foundational elements is where you need to start, because if you don't have this stuff right, you're gonna lose a lot of money and time and energy and effort into pumping the wrong stuff outward.

Jamar Jones: into the world, and that's why the core values, what you stand for, what makes you unique, I call an X factor. You have to figure out who… what is the X factor? Why me? Right? Why are people…

Jamar Jones: choose… why would they choose me? What's gonna make me stand out, right? There's a million of you, of the people that offer, maybe.

Jamar Jones: somewhat of your service, if we just put it in just into a general statement. Yeah. So what's gonna make you stand out? And you do have an X factor, everybody does. They have an X factor, and they have to determine what these core values, what they stand for.

Jamar Jones: What are the things that, make them different? And then, how do you package that

Jamar Jones: To be able to release out into the world, and if it doesn't align, you will…

Jamar Jones: feel resistance, right? It's just natural, because people…

Jamar Jones: People can smell it a mile away.

LuAnn Buechler: Right?

LuAnn Buechler: It's incongruent!

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: And people can smell it a mile away. So, I want to correct one thing. You said, the boring stuff of setting that foundation. Thank you, I am not boring, and by the way, that's my X factor.

LuAnn Buechler: I'm a lot of fun!

LuAnn Buechler: And I'm always gonna talk about the positive, and the positive approach.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: And help you to uncover your passions painlessly.

Jamar Jones: Yep.

LuAnn Buechler: And then when we get those values fine-tuned.

LuAnn Buechler: and a vision of where you're going, then we turn it over to people like Jamar!

LuAnn Buechler: Makes it look pretty and puts it out in the media.

Jamar Jones: Yep.

LuAnn Buechler: Right? But they need that messaging to be from your heart.

LuAnn Buechler: In order to get that branding right. Am I speaking your language, Jamar?

Jamar Jones: Oh, 100%. I mean, it's, and I say boring because it's not boring for me, and it's not boring for you,

Jamar Jones: And it's not boring once it works. See, and that's the thing, like, a lot of people don't like to hear that they have to… it's almost like, hey, I want to be a surgeon, but you have to go back to… you know, you gotta get trained for that. You can't just start operating on people. I mean, you could, but that'd be illegal. So…

Jamar Jones: So what you need to do is you gotta go get training for that stuff. People don't want to hear they have to kind of go back to some of the basics, the foundation of things, the fundamentals of things, but… oh, you're gonna love it once you get the results, though. So that's… that's the piece that, I guess I'll correct my…

Jamar Jones: how I was presenting that, too, because, people… I just, you know, a lot of people we talk to, they know, like, oh, I already been there, done that, I already did that, you know?

Jamar Jones: Is it working?

Jamar Jones: No, it's not.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah, unless you feel it in your heart.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: It's not right yet. Yeah. It's like Simon Sinek's Know Your Why.

Jamar Jones: Yup.

LuAnn Buechler: Right? And yeah, what you're saying, you know, that sounds… the business plan sounds… overwhelming and boring, right?

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: I call it an inspired strategic plan based on your passions and core values.

LuAnn Buechler: Much more fun and juiciness going on in there, right?

Jamar Jones: Yes.

LuAnn Buechler: I got rid of the word transformation. It sounds too scary. Like, I gotta change my whole world, right?

LuAnn Buechler: And that's when I became the little spark. Just a little spark of change can make a huge difference, and it's coming from your heart.

Jamar Jones: That's good, I like that. Transformation does kind of sound scary, doesn't it?

Jamar Jones: And I do say that quite a bit.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah, it does, and so, especially to people who don't operate already in the transformational world, you know, you and I kind of do.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: Or, we use that word a lot.

Jamar Jones: Super…

LuAnn Buechler: Promoting to the small business owner to tell them they have to transform their whole business?

LuAnn Buechler: Scary.

Jamar Jones: Yeah, I almost think of, I think of The Incredible Hulk. You go from, like, just a person to, like, just a monster, right? And it's like, that's a transform that they're probably thinking about.

LuAnn Buechler: What did they call those kids toys? They were Transformers!

Jamar Jones: We're Transformers!

LuAnn Buechler: Right? That one…

Jamar Jones: From a car to a killing machine.

LuAnn Buechler: creatures, yeah!

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah, so just a little spark of change, my friends.

Jamar Jones: Thank you.

LuAnn Buechler: Just a little spark of change.

LuAnn Buechler: So, what other fabulous, insights do you have for us around branding?

Jamar Jones: Branding, yeah, you know… a lot of…

Jamar Jones: I think one thing I want to touch on for branding, I think that would be beneficial for everybody listening.

Jamar Jones: is… I want to go a little deeper on the X-Factor portion of it.

Jamar Jones: the X Factor… Is that uniqueness that you have inside of you.

Jamar Jones: that you need to unleash. And now, that could mean many things, and this is why you have to ask for help and work with somebody to discover this, because you can't see it yourself, oftentimes.

Jamar Jones: You kinda need to…

Jamar Jones: test and experience some things to kind of know what this is. So it could be a passion of yours, right? I just talked to a guy that, music is a big passion of his.

Jamar Jones: Right? And also for me as well, and he was trying to limit and hide this fact that he has, that he loves music.

Jamar Jones: And he's… he's good at it. And so he had all these things he was kind of planning, but he hasn't pushed it out there yet, and he had… his whole brand and image is all very, like, super buttoned up and professional.

Jamar Jones: Now, is that getting him business? Yes. But it wasn't true to himself.

Jamar Jones: Right? He's hiding something, and I had a call with him, and I said, dude, you gotta let this out. Like, this is so cool. Like, you have so many different stories around this, and different ways to market and be totally different, using a little bit of the music side, that…

Jamar Jones: you'll stand out, and people will find this super interesting, and you can still use it as a mechanism to be able to do what you do for clients, right? So that, for him, it could be music, it could be something

Jamar Jones: of your history, right? It could be, energy. Energy is an X factor.

Jamar Jones: Right? People often say that, with myself, that I give off a certain type of energy, right? Like, high frequency,

Jamar Jones: And so, how do you market your energy, right? Because that is an X factor, not everybody has that. So you have to… and there's other things too, but you have to figure out what is that thing that's going to help you stand out. And one last piece I want to help people with is…

Jamar Jones: The things you've done in the past.

Jamar Jones: are part of your brand. Yes. So just hear me out here, everybody. So…

Jamar Jones: A lot of us are always focused on what we did last year, and that's how we calculate up.

Jamar Jones: how we present ourselves to the world. But we forget about all the other years that we did things. So, I always have… I have this process called the Wiki Famous Audit. So, you know, like, the Wikipedia? So if somebody was gonna introduce you on a Wikipedia page.

Jamar Jones: How would that read?

Jamar Jones: Right? That's the question. And a lot of times, those people, they have their… their accolades, right? That they're getting, like, presented almost, like, for an awards ceremony. Right? Their accolades are up there, and they do totals of their life on the Wikipedia page.

Jamar Jones: That's what we do for people that we work with. It's like, you gotta think about the totals. How many people have I spoken to total, right? What's the amount of impact that I've had? How many clients have I worked with total? What's my total revenue that I've done in my business total? What's the,

Jamar Jones: what's the amount of podcasts that I've been on total, right?

Jamar Jones: you start to total up all these numbers, and you might… and you look back at it, and you're like, man, I've done a lot in my life!

Jamar Jones: I've done a lot! And I'm just talking about last year's numbers!

Jamar Jones: Right.

Jamar Jones: And now, when you start to introduce yourself to people, and you start to put this on your website, people are like, man, you've got a lot going on.

Jamar Jones: And that's how you want to present yourself, that's part of credibility, it's part of branding, is you have to tell the story that you want people to read.

Jamar Jones: Yeah. And so, that is just… that's just one nugget, so for everybody, if you want to go back in your past and start gathering up this stuff… I remember I talked to this one guy, he had been training and speaking for years, and he was like, oh, well, I've only really spoken to, like.

Jamar Jones: you know, not too many groups, and only done a little bit of speaking. I said, well, total up all the people you've impacted. And he totally disregarded a whole portion of his life that he was a trainer.

Jamar Jones: And he would go on stages throughout the year, and he would be on, like, 70 to 100 stages a year. And he disregarded that, because he's like, well, that wasn't me speaking about this, though. And I said, dude.

Jamar Jones: What are you doing? All that, you were still speaking to people, correct? Yeah, I was. Oh. So, you were a speaker back then? Oh, I guess… guess I was. Right? And then he totaled up everything, he's like, man, I've impacted over 50,000 people.

LuAnn Buechler: Wow.

Jamar Jones: Right? That sounds way better than what he was putting. I was like, oh, I've impacted 700.

Jamar Jones: Right?

LuAnn Buechler: Right?

Jamar Jones: Regarding a piece of his life that was…

LuAnn Buechler: I'm doing math in my head.

LuAnn Buechler: Because I'm probably not doing that great myself, I can make it better. We can always make things better. Always. Right?

Jamar Jones: Always.

LuAnn Buechler: Again, my mentor says, iterate, iterate, iterate, you know, just always make it better, but yeah, and I also just thought of, I can add to people of all ages.

LuAnn Buechler: I've worked with children all the way through high school students, college students, and now mostly, you know, business professionals, but that's just now!

Jamar Jones: Right.

LuAnn Buechler: Right? And part of my message I would love to get to the kids at 18, trying to select a career.

Jamar Jones: Mmm.

LuAnn Buechler: Let's identify what you're passionate about before you do that.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: Right?

Jamar Jones: Well, that would be huge, actually, because,

LuAnn Buechler: dodge mine.

Jamar Jones: 18, I didn't know what I was doing at 18.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah, 18… I mean, I kind of want to get on college stages, too, because I think what they do is they go to college, and they haven't really made a decision yet.

Jamar Jones: Oh, yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: People go to college because they think they're supposed to go to college?

LuAnn Buechler: Right? And now… and it's way too expensive for this?

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: I ran an ad in a local high school, yearbook one year. Help your student pick the right college the first time.

Jamar Jones: Okay?

LuAnn Buechler: Let's not pay for him twice.

LuAnn Buechler: I mean, just planting seeds with some parents out there, right?

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: are listening, but I was looking at the part of your bio that I didn't read, and this is what you're talking about, and I'm gonna read it for the audience, okay? Nationally recognized with features on Apple TV, Roku TV, and billboards in New York Times

LuAnn Buechler: Square Vision, or excuse me, his vision has transformed 2,500 plus.

LuAnn Buechler: Entrepreneurs, to date, Monetizing their brand positioning, and provides once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for entrepreneurs, marketeers, and leaders and creators globally.

LuAnn Buechler: Right? Now y'all want to know Jamar.

Jamar Jones: Oh, that's… that's actually a per- That was perfectly sad, because…

Jamar Jones: That's why that bio reads that way, everybody. Your bio should do the same, and it CAN do the same. A lot of people are like, well, that's you, Jamar. No.

Jamar Jones: If we go back to your history of the things you've done, you could also have a very compelling bio, because here's the reality.

Jamar Jones: We craft up our own narrative of our stories of ourselves.

LuAnn Buechler: Yes.

Jamar Jones: Then we're telling the world about it.

Jamar Jones: And then we get mad at the world because they don't know everything about us.

LuAnn Buechler: Well, and we're the ones that have discounted ourselves and things that we've got, and, and…

LuAnn Buechler: And hidden pieces of ourselves?

LuAnn Buechler: That other people need to hear. There was a speaker this last week, and she handed out puzzle pieces. She said, have you ever put a puzzle together, 1,000, 5,000 pieces, and you get to that end, and the one last piece is missing?

LuAnn Buechler: Right?

LuAnn Buechler: She said, you may be the missing piece in someone else's puzzle.

LuAnn Buechler: Oh!

Jamar Jones: Oh, that's deep.

LuAnn Buechler: Isn't that great?

Jamar Jones: Good.

LuAnn Buechler: Right? So we've got to speak up, we've got to use our voices, even in asking, as we talked about before, for help, for ideas, support, even financial, right? Who wants to invest with me?

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: You don't know the answer until you ask.

LuAnn Buechler: The worst thing is they say no. I got a lot of no's on my ass this morning. One guy… one guy put up a whole bunch of laughing emojis. I'm like, okay.

LuAnn Buechler: Not you, then? Okay, good.

Jamar Jones: It's all good, you put it out there, and hey, you got it, you got somebody interested, right? And you're gonna get some no's, but it's about that yes.

LuAnn Buechler: And you help people know who you are.

Jamar Jones: Yep.

LuAnn Buechler: And all of the value, all the activity that I just read about Jamar, people want to hear about you, too, my listeners, so that we know who you are, what you have experienced, right? Who you have impacted, as Jamar said.

Jamar Jones: Yeah. Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: Yeah.

Jamar Jones: They deserve to know! They deserve to know all the pieces that you've built, and then also the vision, you know, cast that vision of where you're going. That's kind of the second piece of it, is cast that vision

Jamar Jones: of what you're trying to build, of what you're trying to create, because that's what attracts people to you. And stop being so transactional. I guess that's the… probably the last, you know, one of the last pieces of it, is that people are looking for.

Jamar Jones: a yes, and they're looking for money right away when they're… when they're kind of marketing themselves outward.

Jamar Jones: you are trying to… this is what I like to reverse it, you are trying to spark curiosity. That's all you're trying to do.

LuAnn Buechler: I love it.

Jamar Jones: So, when you start to think that way.

Jamar Jones: Your wording, the posts, the blog posts, your outward marketing, when you're talking with people and networking events, all you're trying to do is spark curiosity, because if you can do that.

Jamar Jones: They want to learn more. And you don't have to force-feed it.

Jamar Jones: So anytime I talk to people, I'm always just trying to make, like, once again, it's about all the accolades, right, the things that I've done. I want them to know, like, hey, I've done a lot in my life, but also, I'm super interesting.

Jamar Jones: Because if we're not making ourselves interesting, no one can be interested.

Jamar Jones: in what you have going on. If you're just going out, just saying, hey, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy.

Jamar Jones: You're not… you're not… that's why… that's why there's… there's disconnect there. But if you're making yourself where you're sparking curiosity, all of a sudden, people are like, oh, okay, tell me… tell me more about that. So how do you…

Jamar Jones: How do you do that? Or tell me about… you worked with who?

Jamar Jones: You know, and then that starts to go down a rabbit hole, and eventually there's like, well, tell me about what you do, man. How do you help? Then there's the door opener, right? And so, the marketing is to get conversations started. It isn't necessarily to immediately close business.

LuAnn Buechler: Oh, I love that reminder, that was the gold right there.

LuAnn Buechler: That was a gold right there. It's to open the conversation, to build a relationship.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

Jamar Jones: Yeah.

LuAnn Buechler: I love it.

LuAnn Buechler: And we need to be curious about others.

LuAnn Buechler: And you're more curious about other people, like, I was curious to get to know Jamar, right?

Jamar Jones: Yep.

LuAnn Buechler: then they are interested in talking with you. Yeah.

Jamar Jones: Curiosity, we kind of lose that as… I mean, as a kid, we have a lot of curiosity about others.

LuAnn Buechler: We kinda do, Liz.

Jamar Jones: And then, as we go through adulthood, we, for some reason, we lose it. I… maybe because we've been beaten down, or… I don't know what it is, but we… we lose it, but that is the other piece of it. You have to be curious about others.

Jamar Jones: When I'm at networking events, I spend more time asking questions to other people than talking about myself.

LuAnn Buechler: Excellent advice. We have two ears and one mouth, use them proportionately.

Jamar Jones: 100%, yes!

LuAnn Buechler: I'm gonna add curiosity to my 6 C's.

Jamar Jones: Get in there somewhere.

LuAnn Buechler: Because I think that's powerful, being… both in being curious about other people and getting people to lean in, that you've sparked curiosity. I think there's a title in that.

Jamar Jones: Sparky.

LuAnn Buechler: curiosity.

LuAnn Buechler: It might go with my little spark, Jamar, I might borrow that, okay?

Jamar Jones: I like that, that's okay, that's okay, hey, I've added some impact and added another C, this is good.

LuAnn Buechler: I love it! Thanks again so much for being with us today. This was super fun. We both carry that X factor of energy. That's why we have so much fun on a call together. Everybody, go out and buy the book, Change Your Circle, Change Your Life.

Jamar Jones: Yep, on Amazon, yep.

LuAnn Buechler: on Amazon, or we'll put a link in the show notes, and how to connect with Jamar, and always how to connect with me. Jamar, give it to him anyway. How can they connect with you? What's your website?

Jamar Jones: Forevermedia.com, that's F-O-U-R-E-V-A Media.com, so, like, forever.

Jamar Jones: media.com. And also LinkedIn. Jamar Jones, LinkedIn, I'm easy to spot, on there. That's the best two places to connect with us and just get into our ecosystem and just learn, man. I mean, if we can give you a connection or an introduction.
