Speaker 1:

Michigan State football faces three year probation for recruiting violations. Michigan State football has been placed on a three year probationary period by the NCAA after investigators found that former staff members arranged and provided impermissible recruiting inducements and benefits and unofficial visit expenses, during the tenure of former head coach Mel Tucker. Tucker, who was fired in September 2023 for sexual misconduct during a phone call with activist Brenda Tracy, is currently in litigation with the university over the remaining money on his contract. As part of the penalties, MSU will pay a 30,000 fine plus 1.5 of its football budget according to a statement released by the university. The Spartans will also face restrictions on official and unofficial visits, recruiting communication, recruiting person days, and off campus recruiting contacts and evaluations across their three year probation.

Speaker 1:

MSC returns on endowment investments fall short of peers gains. Michigan State University's return on endowment investments for the 2025 fiscal year underperformed compared to other institutions with similarly sized endowments. Public and private universities with endowments greater than $1,000,000,000 reported an average returns of 11.5% this year, according to a report from the asset management firm, TIFF. MSU saw a 10% gain during the same period. University spokesperson Amber McCain wrote in an email to the state news, university endowments are pools of money from donors that the institution invests in the market to generate income.

Speaker 1:

A fixed percentage of that income is spent on things like scholarships, professorships, or new campus buildings and to cover some operating expenses like salaries and overhead facility costs. The money left over is then reinvested in the market to grow the endowment's size in the long term and ensure investments keep pace with inflation. MSU's dominant defense continues as shooting heats up in 96 to 52 victory. A sign of a team coached by Michigan State women's basketball, head coach Robin Fralick is body still hitting the floor for loose balls in the fourth quarter. Even with four seventeen left in a blowout in an 84 to 48 game, It is a mentality that has come to be expected from Freilich's dominating defense, which has produced at least 15 steals in every game this season and has helped lead number 24 Michigan State Warren's basketball to a three o start after a 96 to 52 win over Youngstown State.

Speaker 1:

The Spartans finished with 17 steals, helping force 27 turnovers that turned into 32 points. That defensive intensity has become an identity for this team early in the season. Spartan hockey looks to stay hot as they prepare for Notre Dame. The Spartans are back on the road. After opening conference play with a record of two o o, number one Michigan State Hockey will face unranked Notre Dame in South Bend.
