Delays in NHS care are risking the creation of a “forgotten generation of young people” according to Sir Julian Hartley, as data indicates that the vast majority of trust leaders do not believe their organisation can meet the current demand for children and young people’s services. In a survey of health chiefs in England conducted by NHS Providers, nearly every respondent reported that demand has increased since the Covid-19 pandemic.
NHS Providers is now calling on the new government to develop and deliver a cross-departmental strategy for children and young people.
In a fresh move to combat climate change and progress NHS net zero targets, the Royal College of Physicians has launched a new toolkit to help doctors decarbonise their practices. The Green Physician Toolkit features a range of tools that outline the link between climate change and health; high level actions that can improve sustainability; examples of best practice through detailed case studies; and key resources to improve sustainability.
Doctors are also advised to reduce unnecessary prescribing through shared decision-making, educate patients about climate change, and limit diagnostic activities when clinically appropriate.
The World Health Organisation has prequalified the first hepatitis C virus self-test which can provide critical support in expanding access to testing and diagnosis, accelerating global efforts to eliminate hepatitis C.
National-level Hepatitis C self-testing implementation projects have shown high levels of acceptability and feasibility, as well as empowering people through personal choice, autonomy and access to stigma-free self-care services.
