NextGen Kingdom Leaders

In this episode, we confront one of the biggest tensions many young Christian professionals wrestle with: “If I truly pursue God, do I have to become less ambitious?”

In a culture where ambition is often either idolized or demonized, many young Christians feel stuck between wanting to honor God and wanting to build meaningful careers, businesses, influence, and impact. But God is not asking you to care less about your work — He’s asking you to put Him first.

This episode explores the difference between godly ambition and work-driven identity, why career success makes a terrible savior, and how surrendering your ambition to God actually leads to healthier work, healthier relationships, and deeper purpose.

your careers are not in competition.

Enjoy

A lot of young Christian
professionals live with this tension.

If I really pursue God, does that
mean I have to become less ambitious?

Because of that, people feel guilty
for caring deeply about their careers.

They love building, they love
leading, creating, growing.

They wanna make an impact.

But here's the reality, God is
not competing with your career.

He's not asking you to
care less about your work.

He's asking you to care more about Him.

There's a difference, because when
God is first, work stops becoming your

identity and starts becoming stewardship.

Your career was never
meant to replace God.

It was meant to be one of
the places you honor Him.

The problem isn't ambition.

The problem is when
ambition becomes ultimate.

When your career determines your
worth, your peace, your relationships,

your sense of purpose, that's
when work becomes more than work.

It becomes a functional savior, and
saviors make terrible employers.

They always demand more, more
hours, more achievement, more

validation, more proving.

But Jesus offers a different way
to live, a life where you can work

hard without worshiping your work,
a life where excellence matters,

but identity is secure, a life where
success is a blessing, not a god.

Paul says in Colossians, "Whatever
you do, work at it with all your

heart as working for the Lord."

Notice that scripture doesn't say,
"Stop caring about your work."

It says, "Reorient why you work."

You can chase excellence while still
being deeply surrendered to God.

You can lead companies, build businesses,
create wealth, innovate, influence culture

without losing your soul in the process.

When priorities are aligned,
everything else finds its place.

God first, then work becomes healthier,
relationships become healthier,

ambition becomes healthier, because
now success is no longer carrying the

weight of giving your life meaning.

God already did that.

So don't shrink your
ambition, surrender it
