Good morning and welcome
to your morning cereal.
All right, good morning
and welcome to Tuesday.
You made it through Monday, nicely done.
Well, stand tall
because today is national
no apologies period day.
A day dedicated to
owning exactly who you are
without saying sorry for taking up space.
Okay, the answer to
yesterday's trivia question,
1492, what year did
Columbus first land in America?
That's right, he sailed the ocean blue
and the answer is 1492.
And now the essential
vitamins in your morning cereal.
It's today's quote and
it is from birthday girl,
Natalie Portman
turning 45 years old today.
She said this quote,
"I don't love studying.
I hate studying.
I like learning.
Learning is beautiful."
End quote.
Your morning decode, "The
process, it might be stressful
but the result is beautiful.
So fall in love with the destination
even if the road is difficult."
All right, well, let's go
ahead and hear from the experts.
Now it's time to pour in some,
the subtle art of not
giving an F by Mark Manson.
Now we are looking at
the sub chapter today,
things fall apart.
And we are in chapter three.
Here Manson describes the moment
when our metric for
specialness starts to collapse.
When we base our
self-worth on external validation
like being the smartest in the room or
the most successful,
we are setting ourselves up for a crash.
He writes this quote,
"Everything happening in your life
might not be in your control
but how you react to it is always your
own responsibility."
End quote.
Now, when things fall apart, right?
It's usually because the
values we were clinging to,
they weren't real or sustainable.
Maybe you lose the job that defines you
or the relationship you
thought made you complete ends.
It feels like a catastrophe
but Manson argues it's
actually a liberation.
The breakdown of your ego allows you to
see reality clearly.
He notes this quote,
"We need to be told
the truth about ourselves
because the truth is the only thing
that can actually liberate us."
End quote.
So when you stop trying to protect
an inflated image of yourself,
you can finally start building a life
that's based on what is
actually true and important to you
rather than what looks good to others.
Okay?
Now, Manson uses the concept of
shattering the shell here.
We build these hard shells
of identity all around us
saying, quote, "I am a successful CEO"
or "I am the funny
friend, I am the victim."
Now, these identities,
they make us feel safe
because they are predictable.
But eventually life will hit you
with something that
doesn't fit your shell
and it will crack and this is painful.
In fact, it's terrifying.
It's an identity crisis.
But Manson says this crisis is essential.
It strips away the
layers of the BS, right?
That you've accumulated.
It forces you to ask, quote,
"If I'm not the CEO, then who am I?"
That question is the beginning
of the real authentic living.
You stop acting for an audience
and you start living for yourself.
That falling apart is
just the universe's way
of rearranging you into something better.
All right, here it is,
your Tuesday takeaway.
When your plans crumble, don't panic.
It's just life's
clearing away of the debris
so you can build something
stronger on a real foundation.
All right, friends, let's go out there
and let's be unapologetically ourselves.
Building something real today.
But first, the prize from
the bottom of the cereal box,
the morning cereal
trivia question of the day.
Here it is, what is the
world's longest river?
All right, hey, thanks for listening to

for the answer to the trivia question
and for more sugar for your soul.
