Problem Corner is an iconic radio show that has become a vibrant community hub. Callers engage in a wide array of discussions, ranging from local political debates to community commentary and casual advertisements for listeners looking to buy, sell, or trade personal items.
The show's rich history is marked by its association with several prominent local figures. Notably, Dennis Egan, a former mayor of Juneau, was a key personality in shaping the show's direction in the 1980s.
As a testament to its enduring relevance and appeal, "Problem Corner" has etched its name in the annals of Alaskan broadcasting history. It's not just a radio show but a cultural landmark, celebrated for being the longest-running radio show in Alaska.
Welcome to Problem Corner, Alaska's longest running radio show. Connect and discuss the topics important to Juneau and all of Southeast Alaska. Call (907) 586-1800, and subscribe to the podcast at kinyradio.com, powered by Princess Cruise Lines, Alaska Laundry and Dry Cleaning, and Juneau Powersports.
Speaker 2:And good morning, Juno, KINY eight hundred and ninety four point nine FM. It is Friday, Corner. I'm Jess Miller hanging out with y'all. I'm filling in for Nano Brooks on this Friday. As always, Problem Corner is a community service of KINY.
Speaker 2:The purpose of the program is to swap and trade items non commercially and discuss issues that affect the community. Programs not intended for businesses or something that require a business license, such as firewood sales, arts and crafts, and services like daycare providers. Other store categories are home sales and rentals. If you're in need of any of these services, you're more than welcome to text in or email us. We must restrict the sale and purchase of firearms license.
Speaker 2:Gun dealers and other business owners are always welcome to purchase advertising on Problem Corner. All right. It's been a full week for sure, folks. We've had celebration going on and a lot of different things. Beautiful weather, the start of the week.
Speaker 2:If you want to give us a text, could do so at (907) 586-1800, a normal call in number. Still have yet to get our phones up and running, but we'll be doing that very, very soon. Or you can shoot me an email at airkinyradio dot com. Again, that email is airkinyradio dot com, or you're more than welcome to shoot the form through the website, knyradio.com. So either way you could get to us.
Speaker 2:So I have not been tuning in much as far as our conversations with Problem Corner this week. It's been a little while since I've been here on the program. So happy to be back with y'all on this Friday and having back live Problem Corner, our brand new beautiful studio here in the Mendenhall Mall Annex. If you have yet to see our new space, feel free to pop by. We'll show you around.
Speaker 2:It's right there next to the huddle. So if you wanna pop in, say hello, check out the new digs. Totally come on by, we'll show you around. So with celebration going on, if you need more information, could always do so by going to Sea Alaska Heritage's website, that's seaalaskaheritage.org for more information. I don't have it queued up right in front of me as far as the schedule for today, but there's so much stuff happening downtown.
Speaker 2:I've been seeing all the social media posts. It's been awesome. Seems like everyone's having a good time this year for celebrations. So it's crazy. It's always a huge draw.
Speaker 2:We have all of our friends, family, and neighbors from all across Southeast make their way into town for celebration every year. I didn't realize it's only been going on since the 1980s. I thought it's been around a lot longer than that. So very cool that it's still happening. Let me peek at some emails, see if we got some new stuff happening today.
Speaker 2:Alright. This one came in this morning. So the Nazarene church is holding a community garage sale tomorrow from eight till noon to raise money to send kids to camp this summer. If you don't know where the Nazarene church is at, it's at 3220 Loop Road. That's going on from eight to noon to raise money to send kids to camp this summer.
Speaker 2:So super great cause. So pop them by, buy some hidden treasures, and help some kids out again to summer camp. And what else do I got? Not seeing any new emails just yet, but you could always shoot us a text. Go to (907) 586-1800.
Speaker 2:No purchase necessary. Obviously, we won't be bombarding you with that text page. So shoot me a message, either email or text, and I'll get it on the air. I do have a text message from, it's actually from this early this morning. So let's take a look at that.
Speaker 2:There's a garage sale happening tomorrow as well from eight to one major attic and shop clean out. So there's a lot of different exercise equipment, weight bench, barbell, pallets, bosu ball, free weight rack, assorted free weights, a lot of different stuff. Cross country ski poles, boots, men's ten and a half, and women's eight. They also have a dry suit that fits about a five, ten person. A lot of different holiday decor, lamps, baskets, so much stuff.
Speaker 2:There's a lot of good stuff. So again, this is happening tomorrow from eight to one over at 16440 Glacier Highway. It's 16 and a half mile between the 2nd Lena entrance, just past the ball field. They'll have signs out to help guide you there. So again, the address for that garage sale, 16440 Glacier Highway, and we did get another text message.
Speaker 2:Oh, we got a birthday happening tomorrow. Happy birthday to Consuelo from family. I'm sorry if I'm mispronouncing that name. I'm for some reason, my text, like, my actual visual text is all kinda distorted a little bit. So big happy birthday to you from family tomorrow, so definitely swing.
Speaker 2:Wish them a big happy birthday. And let's see if we got any other text messages. Someone lost a wallet. I'm not sure where they lost it at, but they're offering a $100 reward. Got a sentimental picture July 3 in it.
Speaker 2:The number to call or text if you find this wallet is (907) 209-7266. That's 209-7266. If you have found a wallet recently with a sentimental picture, I'm not sure what the picture is. This is July 3. So maybe you might have that written on that photo.
Speaker 2:And then let's see. We also had someone's building a deck near 550 Superior Street. If your deck is old, damaged, or thinking to remodel, you could give this person a call. It sounds like they're pretty handy. Doesn't seem like it's an Alaskan number, but maybe they just transplanted here to Juneau.
Speaker 2:It's 9719883543. If you need some deck work done, especially after the crazy winter we just had, I don't know how many folks' decks got damaged by a weight of snow. Hopefully y'all were on top of it, keeping your decks all cleared off during the insane winter we just had. And looking down the pipeline, as far as events happening here in the capital city, we have the final symphony concert for their season, Hollywood pops happening this weekend, which is all their film score and movie themes. Of course, there's gotta be Star Wars in it.
Speaker 2:And I was kinda teasing this on my program on Mix one zero six the other day. How cool would it be if we showed up at the Symphony concert? If you have the if you have lights like toy lightsabers or even better, the fancier full light bulb lightsabers that look like legit lightsabers. What if we showed up for the Symphony concert when they started playing Star Wars, we either had a lightsaber battle or we just ignited them in the audience. I think that'd be really cool.
Speaker 2:So Hollywood pops happen in Saturday and Sunday. Get your tickets at junosymphony.org. Saturday shows at 07:30 and Sundays at 3PM. We also got some pro skaters coming into town. I saw this post on social media and also I have it right in front of me.
Speaker 2:So pro skaters are coming into town. The 35% design plan is taking shape for the new skate park or to kind of help clean up the skate park, get a refurbished, and all that great stuff. So it sounds like there's going to be a free barbecue open house on the Jack Reiner park with a 35% design plan. There's also gonna be a skate clinic for all ages to learn basic skills with Kaitan and Brandon, who are the pro skaters coming to Juno. And then it's open skate with the pros.
Speaker 2:Then there's gonna be a best trick competition, and there's gonna be a meet and greet Kaitan and Brandon at 04:30. You could bring home an autographed poster. It's not very often we get the skate scene, especially pros, and make a big event about it. Like we have such a huge skate atmosphere in Juneau. I remember growing up in town, everyone always had a skateboard and either hit up a skate park and, but yeah, let's keep the skating world alive for sure.
Speaker 2:So that's again happening tomorrow from noon till 6PM. So swing on by the skate park and have some food and get some knowledge in with these pro skaters. We also have a benefit concert happening tomorrow at the Sandbar. This is a great event, which is gonna benefit the Southeast Alaska Food Bank. And this is all put together by Eliza Valentine, who had this idea way back.
Speaker 2:I follow her on social media. She's been talking about this, putting it in fruition, and it was made possible by a fellow Juno White, Lance Mitchell, and all these other artists. So Eliza, Air Jazz, and Zanzler will be opening up the show with other openers with Jocelyn Myers, LZ Rocks, Big L, Harmony, Deloading oh, actually, no. Deloading is not on the I just chatted with him the other day, so he's not able to make that show. And then Alex Kay, Mazani Rari, and Russell Ramey are gonna be on the ticket for this show happening at Sandbar tomorrow.
Speaker 2:So monetary donations and canned goods are appreciated for the cover charge at this show. Any amount of canned good is accepted. And of course, suggested donations about $10 So happening tomorrow, Sandbar, doors open at 7PM for this charity event concert with our fellow musicians here in Juneau. And let's see if we've new text messages. No new text messages yet.
Speaker 2:You could always text us at (907) 586-1800. If you have anything you wanna say, sell, or just get off your chest. I know it's kinda tough to do that over a text message, but love to chat with y'all. And as always, you could shoot us an email. Go to kinyradio.com if you wanna fill out the Problem Corner tab, or if you wanna get directly to me, it's air@kinyradio.com for that.
Speaker 2:Also, I was very intrigued by this other event. I don't think it might have already happened, actually. I think I already missed it. There's a bobcat blitz happening here at the Mendenhall Mall next Saturday, which is a fun event with all the crazy bobcat equipment. Bring your little ones, snap some photos.
Speaker 2:Whether you're five or 70, there's nothing quite like getting behind the controls of one of these powerful machines. So you could take photos in the driver's seat. Totally free, fun for the whole family or crew. There's also a bonus dirt perk. So that started at 4PM at the mall.
Speaker 2:There'll be free topsoil available for the taking. Oh, that's the bonus perk. Free. So if you need topsoil for your garden, anything like that, come on by, bring your own bucket and scoop some up before you go as you snap some pictures for the bobcat blitz. Again, that's happening at the Menno Home Mall next Saturday, noon till four.
Speaker 2:Don't wanna miss out on that. We also got backyard barbecue going on. I'm not sure if you guys have been submitting your photos of your backyard patty or deck. I've seen some really elaborate grill setups through the years as long as we've been doing this contest. Man, some of y'all take your grilling seriously, and I commend you for that.
Speaker 2:So all you gotta do is submit a photo of your backyard deck or grilling setup to kinyradio.com. There'll be monthly winners of that brand new grill from Western Auto Marine, as well as prizes from Jerry's Meats in Glacier Gardens. So you're always welcome to submit that photo. Big congratulations to our last week's winner, or this week's winner was Channing Burke. So a big congratulations to Channing.
Speaker 2:You're taking home certificates for Jerry's Meats Glacier Gardens and Landscape Alaska. Perfect for grilling in sunshine when we get that back. I know we kind of teased a little bit on the air. It's like, oh, that was our summer, Monday and Tuesday, and then a little bit Wednesday, and then it was back to rain. But knock on wood, we're still early enough.
Speaker 2:We might get some sunshine for fourth of July and all that great stuff. Let's see. We did get an email. Let's check it out. Okay.
Speaker 2:This person's got a 2008 Ford f two fifty. Only has 76,000 miles on it. It's mechanically perfect. It's a beautiful truck. Looks brand new inside.
Speaker 2:Can You see picks on Craigslist. They're asking $19,000 or best offer. If you're sure if you're interested in this Ford F two fifty, you could text or call (907) 586-1277. Again, that's 586-1277. If you're interested in the Ford f two fifty, sounds like a pretty solid truck for sure and might have has sounds like it has a lot of life left in it.
Speaker 2:And let's go back. Let's see what's happening with some other texts that might have popped through the other week. I believe Wade already tackled some of these topics earlier. I'm not up to date, so I'm not gonna tackle it today, but feel free if you got a topic wanna cover today. Shoot me a text or email.
Speaker 2:Love to chat with you chat with it on the air. So we got back our barbecue. Oh, yes. I know it was a little bit ago, but the faces of the future that we had going on with all the 2026 grads. I wanna give a big congratulations to Zoe Lam, who is the face of the future graduation photo winner.
Speaker 2:Zoe wins a dinner for four at Tony's with her friends or family. Hopefully it takes some friends or even better yet, take your family out to dinner. Cause they got you. They helped. They supported you through that endeavor.
Speaker 2:Speaking of graduation, it is my tenth ten year anniversary this year for class of 2016. I just threw my age out there over the airways, but doesn't matter. So excited to see all my fellow grads from 2016. If you're still in Juneau and you're listening to the Problem Corner right now, looking forward to seeing y'all again, but obviously we've had some folks move out of state, might be making their way back to Juneau for our ten year anniversary. It's also the class of February twenty year anniversary.
Speaker 2:And then it's nineteen ninety six's thirty fifth anniversary. Holy cow. Oh, yeah. Let's look at other events happening here in the capital city. So celebrations going on.
Speaker 2:We also have a bird walk with the Judah Audubon Society this Saturday. A lot of things are happening tomorrow. Holy cow. This is from eight to 10AM at the airport trail. So BirdWalk Explorer, our Juno birds, free and open to the public.
Speaker 2:You can get more information at junoautobahn.org if you're interested in joining in on that. Alright. It's 11:20. Let me regroup. We'll take a quick commercial ABC break, and we'll be right back with more Problem Corner here on KINY.
Speaker 1:Download the free Juno Media Center app and enjoy KINY anywhere. Local owned and operated. KINY, the news you need, the music you love.
Speaker 3:And Alaska First Media radio station.
Speaker 4:ABC News. I'm Mike DeBusky. This morning's latest jobs report shows employment grew more than analysts had been expecting.
Speaker 5:The US economy added a 172,000 jobs in May, almost double what most analysts had been predicting. That lowers the risk of a recession. However, wage gains were modest at best. Young people are finding it tough to break into the job market because so many companies, while they aren't firing people, aren't really hiring them either. And employees haven't been leaving jobs they don't like either.
Speaker 5:The number of people who quit in April dropped to the lowest level since August 2020 when COVID was running rampant. Sherry Preston, ABC News.
Speaker 4:There was a hearing today on the Trump administration's efforts to build a ballroom at the White House with lawyers for the president appealing a judge's decision, which had required the project to get congressional approval. And in Virginia, a life sentence for Brendan Banfield, the man convicted earlier this year of murdering his wife Christine and a man named Joseph Ryan. This is ABC News.

Speaker 9:Hi. Yeah. I'm Emil Mackie. I'm the country financial insurance agent here in Juneau, Alaska. Yeah.
Speaker 9:We offer all kinds of services, home, auto, life, boat. I can broker all kinds of business insurance. I even have a couple airplanes that that we insure around the state. I think it's important for insurance purposes to have a local agent because we have a claim. You need somebody local you can talk to.
Speaker 9:Otherwise, you're talking often time to claims agent that's outside the state. They're not here to serve you. Your agent is. And having a local agent that can help you through the claims process can really help you with a lot of heartache avoidance later. Also, you know, we give to our local community.
Speaker 9:I help coach football. I give to the football and basketball and and wrestling clubs and the swim club. And having a local agent helps you. It helps the community, and it really helps you maximize what you're getting back from your insurance company. So, yeah, look local first.
Speaker 6:That you know you know local first.
Speaker 3:For adults with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis symptoms, every choice matters. Tremfya offers self injection or intravenous infusion from the start. Tremfya is administered as injections under the skin or infusions through a vein every four weeks, followed by injections under the skin every four or eight weeks. If your doctor decides that you can self inject Tremfya, proper training is required. Tremfya is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease and adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis.
Speaker 3:Serious allergic reactions, increased risk of infections or lower ability to fight them, and liver problems may occur. Before treatment, get checked for infections and tuberculosis. Tell your doctor if you have an infection, flu like symptoms, or need a vaccine. Explore what's possible. Ask your doctor about Tremfya today.
Speaker 3:Call 1805267736 to learn more or visit tremfyaradio.com.
Speaker 1:Now back to Problem Corner, where our community meets to talk, trade, and share.
Speaker 2:And welcome back to the program here on KINY. I'm Jess Miller hanging out with y'all filling in for Nano on this Friday.
Speaker 1:Hope we're
Speaker 2:having a good day so far. It's definitely been a full, full week, I feel like, ever since celebration kicked off and all of our visiting friends and neighbors and family are in town. So I did find the schedule of events pulled up here. A lot of it is in Tlingit, and I don't want to embarrass myself. So I won't try to pronounce it, but there's so much stuff happening at Centennial Hall all day today.
Speaker 2:So you could go check that out at any time at Centennial Hall, as well as Elizabeth Peratowicz Hall, and as well as the Sea Alaska Heritage Arts Campus. So so much stuff happening downtown today, all day long. It looks like it's not gonna wrap up to like almost 08:00, 09:00 at night. So if you need more information, you can get that over at seaalaskaheritage.org's website and pull up that program of events. And if you're lucky enough, you just went downtown and got a physical copy of the program on deck.
Speaker 2:And looking at some more events. Ah, this one looks pretty cool. On Sunday at T. K. Maguire's is going to be traditional Celtic music session.
Speaker 2:So Juno, you're invited to play or listen to traditional Celtic music played on an acoustic instruments like the fiddle, flute, bodhran, tenor banjo, mandolin, guitar, etcetera. Session follows the traditional etiquette for Irish music sessions, which I'm not too familiar with myself. Is there a traditional etiquette for playing Irish music? If you know so, feel free to shoot me a text message at (907) 586-1800. I'd love to learn more.
Speaker 2:What is the traditional etiquette for Irish music? So again, that's happening at TK McGuire's. Free to the public. Swing on by, have some food, listen to some great music. This happens Sunday from 03:30 to 05:30PM.
Speaker 2:And there's another race. There are more races. It's almost it's summer race season here in Juneau, which is pretty fun. We always got a lot of things happening. We have the East Glacier Trail Tangle happening next Thursday.
Speaker 2:So it is a CASET event. Adults about $15 and youth 18 and under is about $5. And you could do get registered at raceentry.com. Just go to raceentry.com. I'm sure you could search up East Glacier Trail Tangle to pull up the registry.
Speaker 2:There's gonna be a 4.9 mile race. So that's the Powerline Trail head at Gladstone, North up to around East Glacier Trail, up the stairs, and return the way you came. Then there's gonna be a one mile course, which will also be ran on the Powerline Trail. Racers should park on Glacier Spur Road to avoid blocking the driveways of residents on Gladstone. And the nearest restroom facilities are located at the bus parking lot at the Glacier Visitor Center.
Speaker 2:Again, get registered at raceentry.com to search up East Glacier Trail Tangle. That's happening at 6PM next Thursday, June 11. And let's go back. Let's re echo some of the stuff that was being sold. So we have that garage sale with plenty of items happening tomorrow from eight to 1PM.
Speaker 2:That's at 16440 Glacier Highway. It's about one six or 16 and a half mile between the 2nd Lena entrance just past the ball field there. They'll have signs out, so feel free to keep your eye out or just enter that address in. They're going to be open for about five hours, so definitely swing on by. They have a lot of sporting goods, weight stuff.
Speaker 2:They got new Barbies never used, some collector Barbies. That's pretty cool. Just some good stuff. So lots more priced to go. So they're ready to get rid of this stuff.
Speaker 2:I did get another email. Is the radio station called still called the Juno Radio Center or something else? Yeah. That's a long standing name. Like we've been the Juno Radio Center for a long time or Juno Media Center.
Speaker 2:That's kind of where we've shift to. But our company name is Alaska First Media. So that's our official title, Alaska First Media with all of our different stations, all across Southeast. We have the six here in Juno, three in Ketchikan and two in Sitka. So we have 11 stations overall with Alaska First Media, but we accept all names, feel like, but Alaska First Media or Juneau Media Center as our physical space is appropriate because we do more than just radio.
Speaker 2:We do all kinds of media, digital media, and all that great stuff. So Juno Media Center, that's kinda where we've kinda hung out at for some time now. And I know our old channel drive on the door there said Juno Radio Center, but, yeah, hope that clarified that question for you. And we have that Ford F two fifty for sale with 76,000 miles. Sounds seems like a really good condition truck for the age.
Speaker 2:You could check out picks on Craigslist. They're asking $19,000 for that or best offer. You could call or text them for this truck at (907) 586-1277 if you're interested in that truck. And no new emails just yet. Let's see if we got an email that I missed or a re echo.
Speaker 2:Yes. The Nazarene church, they're holding their garage sale tomorrow from eight till noon to raise money to send kids to camp this summer. If you don't know where the church is at, it's at 3220 Loop Road if you're interested in popping by there tomorrow. It's officially garage sale season, folks. We're into the summer months, so if you got more things you want to sell or garage sales, feel free to shoot me a text (907) 586-1800, or you could shoot us an email either through the website, kinyradio.com, or if you wanna directly get to me without having to go through the website, you could email me at air@kinyradio.com.
Speaker 2:I'd love to throw out your items or whatever topics you guys wanna chat about. And Sorry. I'm looking at we do got I don't know how many cruise ships we got in. I was thinking about that throwing out how many ships we have in this Friday, but don't wanna have to pop through. Ah, yes.
Speaker 2:I do wanna shout out with baseball. We got the Juno Douglas Crimson Bears baseball action happening here on KINY. The game's at 4PM today against West Valley. So if you wanna tune into that game, we'll be broadcasting that here on KINY and always stream anywhere you don't have a radio. You could do get that at kinyradio.com or download the free Juno Media Center app, and you'll have access to all the stations right there in the palm of your hand.
Speaker 2:And, yeah, baseball action. So let's keep cheering on our Juno Douglas Crimson Bears to see if they could pull out that state championship for the twenty twenty six state season. All right, let's see. So we got the program. So again, celebration, if you're ever confused or lost and you need to figure out what's happening, go to sealaskaheritage.org to get all that.
Speaker 2:Looking into tomorrow for celebration events of kicking things off at 10AM at Centennial Hall, and then things at Elizabeth Peratiovich Hall, the doors open at 11:30. And then at the Sea Alaska campus, it looks like things are kicking off over there around 12:30 with a lot of different stuff. There's dances, folks from all across Alaska. We got folks from Washington and Cangoon and Juneau. Yeah.
Speaker 2:Folks don't remember a the, lot of the Clincoln, Haida and Simpsons folks are from Pacific Northwest. So it's not just Alaska, all over the place. So we've welcomed our friends and family neighbors from Washington to come up for celebration of twenty twenty six. So please give them a warm welcome as they are visiting the capital city. Let's see.
Speaker 2:Could I clarify for listeners why there are no calls right now? I know there's an issues with the phone still. So we do we're so close with our phone system. We just have a couple hardware equipments to get hooked up. So we're planning tentatively to have that squared away by next week, but I will make sure the other hosts are keeping us updated.
Speaker 2:But yes, it's totally different atmosphere of Problem Corner, not having the call ins and having the text and email options. So please feel free to hang with us, bear with us. We appreciate your patience as we're getting our phone systems back up and running. So I appreciate the question and I'm hoping next week we'll get that all squared away. Let's see.
Speaker 2:Yeah. I did get another text message. Sadly, we don't have our phone system hooked up today, so it's just text only. So sadly, if you try to call the number, it won't let you through. I'm not sure if it rings or not, but it won't let me accept it here in the studio.
Speaker 2:Oh, too funny. I just answered the question. Yes. Too funny. I answered the question just as you texted me.
Speaker 2:So I appreciate the text message right after that. But yeah, phone systems are so, so close to being hooked up. We're almost there, folks. We should have phones back up and running by next week, I wanna say, but I'll do my best to make sure the other hosts keep us updated and all of our other on air folks keeping us in the loop when our phones are going be hooked up. Alrighty, folks.
Speaker 2:I appreciate the text messages so far. I'm going to take a quick break real quick. So if you have something you want to throw out there, feel free to text me real quick. Oh, what did you just say? You send me a text.
Speaker 2:Oh, you have a funny that I'm going to send you a text, but you have to read it how I said. And if you could read it with some hype in there, I would really love it because it's not the same as a phone call. I will definitely do so. Send me that text message. We'll be right back with more Problem Corner here on KINY.

Speaker 12:Is your child
Speaker 13:struggling in school or showing signs of poor depth perception? These could be signs of amblyopia or lazy eye, which is often undetected without a comprehensive eye exam. At Juno Eye Care Professionals, we recommend your child have their first eye exam before age eight. Early detection is crucial for the brain's visual pathways and can significantly improve the chances of restoring normal vision. If left untreated, amblyopia can lead to permanent vision impairment.

Speaker 1:You're listening to Problem Corner on KINY, bringing neighbors together for generations. From the days of Dennis Egan to today, we're proud to continue the tradition of lively debates, community insights, and local connections here on KINY.
Speaker 2:And welcome back to KINY Problem Corner on this Friday. I'm Justin Miller hanging out with y'all, filling in for Nano Brooks on this end of our week. So, you know, in good old Nano fashion, we like to end the week in a pretty positive note. So try and do so and keep things light today. Obviously, with no phone calls, it's a little harder to have that kind of conversation, but I do appreciate the participation through email and text that we've been having today.
Speaker 2:And like I was saying earlier, we're going to get those phone systems back up and running so we could conversate with you voice to voice rather than through text messages. But I do appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation with the changes, and we're slowly working towards it. I did get another text message throughout the break. This person's asking about the KINY app. Used to show the title of songs I was playing and the artist.
Speaker 2:Now it doesn't show them. Will it change back to showing them? It should. We are actually gonna be revamping our streaming computers that operate our streams. So hopefully once we get that all squared away, we'll get those artist tags and song titles back up and running.
Speaker 2:So you know who's, what artist and what song that is. So feel free to hang with us. We'll try to give you guys an update when that adjustment changes. All right. I did get another text message.
Speaker 2:This person has a 25 gallon sandblasting cabinet. Still in the box. It's $75 heavy duty engine mount. It also has a $75 twin, seven horsepower, two stroke long shaft outboard, still intact. Other outboard ordered rebuilt power head needs rebuilt rebuild kit.
Speaker 2:Three for $400. You could call, leave a message, or voicemail, and they will get back to you as soon as possible. So the number to call is (907) 957-3598 for the sandblasting cabinet or the outboards if you're interested in any of those. Again, the number is (907) 957-3598. And going back to the other text message.
Speaker 2:Sorry, I did not give you a call during the commercial break. I'd love to give a call and make sure we conversate, but not really wanting my personal phone number out and about. So if you want to try to send me what the funny thing is you're wanting to say through the text message, I'll do my best to read it with some hype like you're saying, try and make it funny. Okay. My joke was that darn, I missed half of the program and it hurt my heart, so no one I look forward so one thing I look forward to every day, I need like the lights and alarms to go off instead of saying fire, fire.
Speaker 2:I need it to say problem corner, problem corner. I might be able actually play your audio back. Hopefully, it's appropriate. Let's listen to what she submitted. Oh, it's very quiet.
Speaker 2:I'm wondering if I could adjust that. Oh, there we go. Almost why is the volume only going halfway? I don't know.
Speaker 14:The program Oh, there you go. Hurts my Carbon Corner is the one thing that I look forward to.
Speaker 2:There you go. Was like, wondering why is this so quiet?
Speaker 14:Okay. So no phone calls. And it's funny that I'm nervous even to say this. Well, one, because it'll sound stupid to others, but it really made myself laugh. So stuck in my own problems, how funny at Problem Corner, and everything I did not realize at the time, son of a savage, I missed half of the program and it hurts my heart.
Speaker 14:Problem Corner is the one thing that I look forward to every day. But here is the joke. And so I'm missing half of Problem Corner looking at the time. I was like, OMG, I need to set alarms in my house, fire, fire, and the lights and stuff to go off. And instead of saying fire, it needs to say, Popcorn or Popcorn.
Speaker 2:I like that.
Speaker 14:And I know it kind of messed that up, but I was nervous.
Speaker 2:No worries that you're nervous. I love that. I could just picture that in my head listener, that when that time goes off, like usually we start the program at like eleven, ten or so. And imagine just like you're sitting in your couch and all of a sudden an alarm goes off like you're a fire like you're a fireman and the the bells are ringing, lights are going off and it's like, oh, shoot, it's Problem Corner time. So I love the picture that you painted for me.
Speaker 2:So I appreciate the sending that sound snippet in. I didn't, I totally never even thought about that. If you know the capability how to send a voice memo, you could totally do so. And I could play it on the air and we could do it that way if you'd rather not have to type your words out. So yes, I appreciate you joining in on that.
Speaker 2:No worries. If you're worried about your tone of voice, it's okay. I appreciate it. Be It'll the same thing if we had a phone call, so I appreciate the interaction. Let's see.
Speaker 2:Oh, we got some emails. See if they're Problem Corner oriented. They are not Problem Corner oriented. They're just the forms that we have on our website. So see what else we got.
Speaker 2:Oh, so kind of going back to the outboards and the power sander. They also have a twin three eighteen, two twenty five horsepower inboard engines already torn down. Good for rebuild or selling for parts. You can call again, (907) 957-3598 if you're interested on the more details for outboards or the sandblasting cabinet, if you're trying to get a boat up and running or refurbish a little boat, whenever it may be. So for the listener that just sent me that voicemail or a voice memo, I definitely appreciate you joining in.
Speaker 2:I could picture you doing that little happy dance in your house because now people could do the voice thing if they had thought about it, but there could only be one person to be the first only one, that was me. Yep. Yep. I'm glad that you christened the voicemail, voice memo things. I totally forget about that because even my own partner, my girlfriend, she does that to me all the time rather than texting me.
Speaker 2:She'll send a voicemail, a voice memo to me rather than typing things out. So if that's easier for y'all and, you know, have the capability to do that, feel free to do that. So if we don't have phones set up by next week, by Monday or Tuesday or so, then feel free to send that voice memo out our way through text message. It's so much easier. We get to hear your tone of voice a little bit better rather than text message.
Speaker 2:That's a problem sometimes. If you send in text message, you don't really get the tone of voice across. So that's always a great option as well. So I appreciate you participating. You are the first ever voice memo that we've done with the texting service of Problem Corner, and we'll probably continue using the text service along with the phone calls.
Speaker 2:So we'll kind of do a combo. There's eventually gonna be three different ways to reach out to Problem Corner. How exciting is that? We're gonna have phone calls, text messages, and emails. So if you're little worried about having your voice on here, can send a text message or an email, or if you don't have the capability to call in, you can send a voice memo our way through text message.
Speaker 2:Again, the number is (907) 586-1800, or you can email us directly at air@kinyradio.com. That's air@kinyradio.com. Alrighty. So no new emails just yet. Let me peek at some events that might be happening.
Speaker 2:So again, the charity event or the charity show with Eliza Valentine happening and others. So Air Jazz and Zandler. If you're not familiar with Air Jazz or Zandler, they've been performing here in Juneau for quite some time. There's also gonna be Jocelyn, gonna be performing, and LZ Rocks, Big L, Harmony, Russell Ramey, Alex K. It says La Boca.
Speaker 2:I wonder if it's J Bo or Harmony La Boca. It might've been mixed up when we added the details. And Bazani Rari. So Harmony La Boca, she's one of our Southeast Sound songs that we play on the air and as well as LZ Rock. She's loaded in on Southeast Sounds and wanted to plug that real quick.
Speaker 2:Southeast Sounds is our platform where we help elevate and celebrate our local musicians here on the airwaves. So we want to invite local musicians to submit their music to either website, any website of Alaska First Media. It doesn't have to be kynyradio.com. It could be anyone. And depending on what your style of music is, the sound you want to get out there, we'll find that appropriate home.
Speaker 2:So say you're a pop artist, you'll live on Mix one hundred six. If you're more of like a folk or kind of softer rock kind of funk where it doesn't really have a genre with our stations, we'll put on KINY and harder rock, of course, KXJ, Folk Country, Taku one hundred five, and we'll just put you on the home of the music that you are creating and hopefully get some highlights to your own personal sound and all that great stuff. And I got a few more minutes. Let's see. We got a few minutes.
Speaker 2:So I got another text message. Just check it out. Someone sent me a dad joke. I like it. What do you call a shoe made out of a banana?
Speaker 2:A slipper. That is a good dad joke. It is almost Father's Day around this. It's almost Father's Day and that's something that we used to do with dad jokes. We used to let folks submit dad jokes here on the airwaves.
Speaker 2:So that'd be fun to do during the program closer to Father's Day here on Problem Corner. Submit your best dad joke. Maybe we could hook you guys up with a little prize coffee card or wherever it may be. And I got another text message. So here's something for my trivia.
Speaker 2:I appreciate let's see. Three minutes. It wasn't I still hold the record for free throws made by Capital School, and I think I was in fourth or fifth grade. I'm going to have to look. I saw the paper certificate about the year.
Speaker 2:So here's a trivia for me. Who holds the most free throws from Capital School? I'm not sure. I have to look back and think about that or find out, but that's interesting that you hold the record for most free throws at capital school. And so also one thing that's starting up tomorrow is free summer movies at Glacier Cinemas.
Speaker 2:There's gonna be a lot of different movies every month that they're gonna be showcasing at Glacier Cinemas, so you definitely don't wanna miss out on that. I thought I had the list of the movies that are gonna be played in front of me. But, anyway, there's gonna be movies like the live action how to train your dragon from the top of my brain that I could think of. So definitely swing on. Oh, there it is.
Speaker 2:I found it. So, yeah, free family movies, Saturdays throughout the summer. So that's starting tomorrow. Doors open 11:30. Movie starts at noon.
Speaker 2:So first one is How to Train Your Dragon live action. Then on June 20, it's gonna be If, like Imaginary Friend with Ryan Reynolds. June 27 is gonna be Teenage Mutant Mayhem. June 11 or July 11 is going to be the Bad Guys two. July 27 is going to be Sing, like the animated movie Sing, and finishing up the summer free movies, August 8, Sonic the Hedgehog.
Speaker 2:So a lot of different family movies to go check out too. Such a, it's pretty nice. It's totally different game changer. Unless you have like a nice surround sound system in your home. Going to the movies is just an experience because you get to sit in a chair, get some movie theater popcorn, because unless you know how to make that yourself, it's not very easy to get ahold of.
Speaker 2:So go have some movie theater popcorn, have a free movie, Help your wallet a little bit. Take the kiddos out. It's going to be a great time. So that's happening all summer long. All right.
Speaker 2:No new emails just yet. Have a few more minutes left of the program. So if you got a text you want to throw out at me or whatever's on your mind, kind of you could shoot a voice memo through text, or you could text it out or email. I'm glad I even thought about doing the voice memo thing through text message. So thank you listener for being the first to christen the voice memos.
Speaker 2:So you texted me back actually. Yes, I'm talking about the Oh yes. Since I'm talking about the summer movie theater, they're excited for the twentieth century movie theater or the downtown movie theater to be opening up July 10. They've been working hard and they're doing remodels and everything, talked with the ladies that were in there doing refurnished stuff. They were very friendly.
Speaker 2:I cannot wait a movie theater downtown. They're so excited. Yeah, says very cool that that is new and that's going to be a refurbished theater. And also they believe they're refurbishing the apartments upstairs as well. So not just that theater, but also the housing that's part of it.
Speaker 2:So that's also got retouched. And I believe it's in great hands and it's super exciting. It's not, I feel like it's not going to be just movies. I think they're going to do like short films or small independent films as well, kind of like Gold Town Theater does a little bit. So maybe it might be a mixture of big name movies, local, filmmaker movies, short films, all that great stuff.
Speaker 2:So super exciting to see that theater opening up. I did not know they're going to open up July 10, so I might have to look into that a little bit more. Alrighty. So it's 11:58. I think that shall do it for Problem Corner.
Speaker 2:I appreciate all the texts, emails. Hopefully, we were able to get those trucks off the for sale, the outboards. Again, before I leave y'all, I'll throw the numbers out for that again. So for the outboards, sandblasting cabinet, you could call or text (907) 957-3598. And then for the Ford truck, the Ford F two fifty, you could call (907) 586-1277.
Speaker 2:That's 586-1277. And then the garage sale happening tomorrow. That's at 16440 Glacier Highway. That's going on tomorrow from eight to one, as well as the one at the Nazarene Church. So a couple of garage sales to check out tomorrow or yeah, tomorrow for sure.
Speaker 2:I'm like mixing up my days. I thought it was like Thursday or something and my brain is my brain. Alrighty, folks. That shall do it for me. Jess Miller here on the program.
Speaker 2:Hope you have a good rest of your Friday and gearing up for a great weekend and a good final shebang for celebration twenty twenty six. Alright. We'll catch you next time here on KINY's Problem Corner.
