The Team at the Real Health Co. shares a weekly message to help you center yourself and start your week off strong!

Dr. Barrett:

As we continue into the new year, we've been discussing what goals are and how to shape them and how to be intentional with goal setting and how to be intentional with spiritual progress. But today, I wanna take a step back and just talk through the reality that we live this podcast, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, sermon economy. And everyone is learning, right? There's always a reel from a pastor who's got this snippet of a good message, or there's this podcast you're listening to right now, right? There's the reality that we're flipping through Instagram and we're gaining so much information.

Dr. Barrett:

It's an information explosion age, which is great. It has so much benefit. Yet, even in this season where everyone is informed or everyone is learning, few are actually being formed. And what that means is we're really not being discipled. We're just being tickled, like our ears are just filling up with information, our brain is filling up information, and what we find is that we are experiencing paralysis by excessive information.

Dr. Barrett:

The core tension points is that we just consume spiritual content typically constantly, and yet there's anxiety, and there's still division, and immaturity at a really high level. I mean, just look at the relationships and the communities around you, there's just tension points, and polarizing, and it's just our society is so polarizing, right? And so the big idea is, spiritual growth happens through practice and surrender, not just exposure to more information. Know, James one twenty two is one of my favorites, it's be doers of the word, not just hearers. Or Romans twelve:two is that we would be renewed by transformation of our mind, that we can prove what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God.

Dr. Barrett:

Matthew seven twenty four, the wise builder does words of God, is a doer, right? So when we look at the Scripture, we come to the reality that we can't just be hearers, and more information is not always better. But practically applying that information is the key concept in spiritual maturity and growth. And so, what are you learning this week? That's it, just one thing.

Dr. Barrett:

We don't have really the willpower, the ability to change too much in our life. There's one area, one moment, one thing, one piece of information that we can apply, and if we did that well, we would grow more than consuming infinitely more information. And so my challenge to you this week is slow down on how much information you're obtaining. Find something that the Lord is speaking to you on. Be obedient in that, and walk that out this week.

Dr. Barrett:

And let's just see the fruit and the maturity of that, the growth of that in your life. As I apply that, I wanna encourage you to apply that this year, that when we look at our growth plan, we will look at our word for the year, we read scripture. It's okay if you didn't finish the chapter because there's a verse that stuck out to you, and it's speaking to your heart, just meditate on it. May the words of my mouth and meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, oh Lord, my strength and my redeemer, as the psalmist writes. Pause, reflect, and apply.

Dr. Barrett:

This week, I believe if we were to be intentional with applying what we're learning, it would be greater for us than learning more.
