Hey, Lioness, welcome back to the show. This is Lioness Women Rooted in Christ. Welcome, I'm Jen Porter, leadership and empowerment coach for ambitious and heart-centered women who wanna put God at the center of everything that we do. I'm so glad that you're here. We are right in the middle of a series called Identity in Christ. And this series is all about understanding who we truly are.
because God says we are, not because of what the world tells us. And we are focused this week on being chosen. We are so, so deeply loved by God. He chose us before the foundations of the earth were created. He knit and formed us in our mother's wombs. He wanted us to live. He wanted us to bring life through us. And he wanted us to be born. He literally chose us.
He chose us to live this life. And it's a profound thing because how many of us have been rejected? I want, know, when have you been rejected? Let me start with that question. When have you been rejected?
When was it? What did it feel like? Who or what rejected you? You know, when I think back on my life, the rejection that I felt, I came from someone that I trusted and thought that would be there for me forever. And it didn't happen. And to be rejected at such a profound level is crushing. It really is. You know, be rejected from
A job being laid off feels like rejection, doesn't it? It's happened to me twice and it's brutal. It's brutal because it's such a, I don't know, it's kind of a, it feels like a violation of what we thought was true and who we thought we were. So none of us can escape. All of us have experienced the pain of rejection.
the dagger of rejection. And, you know, we've rejected others and it's just the way we are. know, humans are not faithful like God is and we can change our minds. It's painful. So being chosen by God anchors us in a way that nothing else will or can. And I want to share some
scriptures with you to help us understand what God says about us being chosen. Last episode we talked about Ephesians 1:4 for he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his children through Jesus Christ. Today I want to introduce a couple other scriptures. This comes from John 15:16 and this is Jesus speaking.
He says, you did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last. So not only did Christ choose us before we ever chose him, but he also appointed us for a purpose, to bear fruit and not just fruit that will perish in this life.
but fruit that will last. And I think what he's talking about there is eternal fruit. Then the other scripture is Isaiah 41, nine through 10. It says, have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you.
with my righteous right hand. You know, these scriptures are so comforting to me because when I have been rejected, I needed to orient myself toward what was true and lasting, and that is God's love. And so to know that Christ chose me before I ever chose him and that even though I was rejected, God
chose me. I have never been rejected by him and he will never reject me. And then he goes on to say through Isaiah 41, so do not fear for I am with you. The reason that we can have courage and bravery and face whatever comes our way is because he is with us. That's why it says, do not fear. I am with you.
It's the presence of God and Him being with us that allows us to move forward and to overcome whatever is in front of us that would try to hold us back. He says, do not be dismayed for I am your God. So he's reminding us of our position as His. He is our God and we are His. So we don't need to be dismayed. He says, I will strengthen you and help you. I mean, how many of us need help?
How much do we need help every single day? He holds our very life in his hands. I'm just so clear that we can do no good thing apart from him. And so he helps us with every single thing across all of our days and all of our nights. We need his help. He says, will uphold you with my righteous right hand. I mean, what a promise that he will always be there for us.
He will uphold us with his righteous right hand. If we believed this, how differently would we live? I think about it, right? I want you to think about it. How would you make different decisions if you believed this? What if our decisions were rooted in our identity as being chosen by the God of the universe?
How would we do things differently? What would we put up with and what would we not put up with? How would we speak differently if we believed deep within our soul that we are chosen and loved by God? Would we take different risks, particularly if he's called us to do it? Rooted in our identity, would we take different risks?
I know the risks that I have taken have been rooted in my faith in God. When I felt he was calling me to do something and it was risky, it was going to uproot my life quite a bit, but I knew that he was calling me to do it and so I put my faith in him and he never let me down. You know, I was just talking with a friend and remembering that I felt
like I was jumping off a cliff. It was actually in a workshop that I led last week. And somebody said, know, sometimes when I feel like I'm taking a risk, it feels like I'm jumping off a cliff and there's nothing to catch me. And I said, you know, so it reminded me of when I was taking, making a big decision, I quit my job, left Seattle and was starting my new life after divorce. And it felt very scary. And...
I remember feeling like I'm getting ready to jump off a cliff and what if I've misheard God? You know, what if I have not heard correctly? And just this, I'm sure it was the Holy Spirit came to me and reminded me, even if I have made a mistake, He will still catch me. He's that good. Even if I've made a mistake and misheard Him in my humanness, He will still catch me when I jump off that cliff. And I'm not suggesting that you jump off a cliff.
But I am saying if there's something that God's calling you to do that feels scary, because that's what that metaphor is, right? Something that feels scary, where our feet are not solid underneath us, there's a lot of uncertainty. God is faithful to catch us, to hold us, to rescue us even. How would we fight for ourselves and our families differently if we believed and knew we were chosen?
and so loved by God.
I think we would stand differently, walk differently, show up differently, you know, to get super practical. I think we'd interview differently. I think we would negotiate differently. I think we would take our decisions differently. I think we'd have more confidence.
we would show up more powerfully, not because of who we are, but because of who is in us, because of who we are in Christ. So I challenge you to think about that. How different would your day go? How would you show up differently if you truly, truly believe this? I wanna give you some ways to apply this.
One way is through a prayer, a prayer of identity. You could say simply, thank you God that you chose me and help me to live in the truth of this today.
Thank you God for choosing me and help me to live in that truth today. You it could be a very simple prayer. You could also anchor yourself in these scriptures. So you could choose one or both, John 15, 16, Isaiah 41, 9 through 10. Or maybe you really loved the first one that I shared in the last episode, Ephesians 1, 4 through 5.
Anchor yourself in the Word of God because there's so much power in it. It is alive. It is transforming. It is life. is bread. It is nourishment to our souls and our spirits. So before you go out and tackle the day, put on scripture. And you may even want to just write these out and have them front and center.
Maybe put it on your mirror, put it at your desk. I put a lot of notes at my desk because I see them constantly throughout the day and I need those reminders. ⁓ One of mine that I've sat with for a long time is Psalm 46. It is well with my soul. It's a reminder to me that it's no matter what's happening around me. It is well with my soul. I need that reminder when anxiety comes and uncertainty creeps in and ⁓
overwhelm. It is well with my soul. That's a declaration rooted in scripture. So allow these scriptures to serve you, to uplift you, to remind you of what is absolutely true because we will get confused if we stop paying attention to truth. And we are, you know, we move into the world of performing and the expectations of those around us and
the comparison game, which is futile We always have to come back to our identity in Christ. You are loved, you are blessed, you are chosen.
I'm gonna leave you with a blessing. May you rest in the truth that you are chosen by God. Amen. I look forward to next episode. You are not gonna wanna miss this. I have a really special guest and I cannot wait for you to meet this lioness woman.
such a powerhouse and such a person of joy and courage. I can't wait for you to hear her story and we're going to be focused on the identity in Christ of courage.
