Vox Liturgica:

The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The feast of Saint John Eudes. Confessor, August 19 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today's feast, Father Sylvester Jurgica writes the following, Saint John Eudes, born in Normandy, was educated by the Jesuits. Ordained priest, he founded the congregation of the priests of Jesus and Mary, called Eudists, and the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity.

Vox Liturgica:

As preacher, writer, and founder, he promoted public devotion to the sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary. He died in the year of our Lord 1680. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit.

Vox Liturgica:

Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighted are all his counsels. The law of God rules in his heart. Allay thy impatience with the wicked. Envy not the lot of evildoers.

Vox Liturgica:

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighted are all his counsels. The law of God rules in his heart.

Vox Liturgica:

The Collect, let us pray. O God, who didst wonderfully inflame blessed John, thy confessor, to promote the public worship of the sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary, and through him didst will to found new religious families in thy church. Grant we beseech thee that we who venerate his merits may also be taught by the example of his virtues through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the wisdom of Sirach.

Vox Liturgica:

Blessed is the man who lives unreproved, who has no greed for gold, and puts no trust in his store of riches. Show us such a man, and we will be loud in his praise. Here is a life to wonder at. A man so tested and found perfect wins eternal honor. He kept clear of sin when sinful ways were easy.

Vox Liturgica:

Did no wrong when wrong lay in his power. His treasure is safely preserved in the Lord's keeping and wherever faithful men are met his alms deeds will be remembered. The gradual. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree. In the house of the Lord he shall grow to greatness like the cedars of Lebanon, to proclaim thy mercy in the morning and thy truth in the night.

Vox Liturgica:

Alleluia. Alleluia. Blessed is he who endures under trials. When he has proved his worth, he shall win the crown of life. Hallelujah.

Vox Liturgica:

A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, your loins must be girt and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men awaiting their master's return from my wedding feast so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks at the door. Blessed are those servants whom their master will find watching when he comes. I promise you, he will gird himself and make them sit down to meet and minister to them. Whether he comes in the second quarter of the night or in the third, blessed are those servants if he finds them alert.

Vox Liturgica:

Be sure of this. If the master of the house had known at what time the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and not allowed his house to be broken open. You too then must stand ready for at what hour you think not, the son of man will come. The Offertory. My truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

Vox Liturgica:

The secret: in memory of thy saints, O Lord, we present thee the sacrifice of praise by which we trust to be delivered from both present and future evils. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface: Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the powers stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee, while we say with lowly praise.

Vox Liturgica:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion.

Vox Liturgica:

Blessed is the servant who is found on the watch when the Lord comes. Amen, I say to you. He shall place him over all his goods. The post communion. Let us pray.

Vox Liturgica:

Refreshed by meat and drink from heaven, O God, we humbly beseech thee that we may be protected by the prayers of him in whose memory we have partaken through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Saint John Eudes, pray for us.
